I took a class a this university. In order to get my money back they told me I had to apply with this bank. Even though I had my own bank account. The bank ended up charging me interest for having an account. I ended up having to pay $383 out of pocket in interest because of their error. This university preys on poor people. I am not poor and didn't need their bank account. But how unfortunate for people who are and have to pay the outlandish interest that the bank they require you to sign up with charges. Choose a real university that doesn't get kickbacks. I am so tired of seeing poor people get scammed.

Horrible communication. No matter how many messages and emails you send (because answering the phone is impossible), they don't reach out to you. I don't understand why. I've been leaving messages for the Advising department and emails to the Records department for 2 months and not a single reply. It's ridiculous. Plus, at least for my son's degree plan, the professors don't even want to be there most of the time judging by how many times classes are canceled or shortened.

Admission process is trash. It was a struggle to get in for 2 years. I have 2 years of previous college education from a U.S. territory university and wanted to have it transferred over to apply for a program. The TSI step was what I wanted to bypass because I've taken Statistics and College English. I put in an online request for a TSI exemption since I've taken math and english before, and got no update. A month in a half ago, I try again to get into St Philips. Blanca Padilla said she'd hurry the process to get my math credit evaluated at the chair and told me that if it DOES transfer over, I still have to take a college algebra course because the program I wanted to try for was very specific on the math prereq being algebra. My goal was that it (at least) satisfies the TSI exemption criteria so I can get advising done and register for prereq classes I have yet to complete before enrolling into the program. I waited a whole month in a half. No call, no update. So I call myself. Only to find out something happened and I gotta wait for a second evaluation. So don't bother trying to enroll here if you have previous college credits to transfer over. It's a whole run-around and a headache. I'm better off going to CHCP or another institution that costs more but reaches my expectations on communication and education. Edit: The advisor said my math was rejected because the course description was not enough information to determine if the topics covered what their colleeg covers, so he requested a syllabus. I get ahold of my University's Dean to email me the syllabus and I forward it to the Advisor Luis Sevilla with the caption "pls put in a request to have it reviewed again using my syllabus as a reference." No response, not even an acknowledgment of the syllabus being received. I emailed Luis again for an update the next day. No response. 2 business days later, I ask again. No response. Its been a week and I've gotten no response whatsoever.

Was there for professional development. The facilities are beautiful and clean. The kitchen labs are filled with professional equipment and the chef instructors are very knowledgeable.

Wow, at first glance you wouldn't think this campus is as large as it is. I noticed several learning centers, a huge Student Center, at least 7 modern buildings blended in with what appeared to be some historic buildings, and at least one gym. I suspect there is another but never found it. The campus extends, vertically, at least 3 blocks. There is a huge lawn right in the center for students. Very impressive small college.

The pow wow organization was using the Saint Philip's gymnasium for an Indian Pow Wow it was a very nice venue. There were hundreds of guests and it was very nice dancing there because they put these rugs down on the floor of the gymnasium

The admissions process is ridiculous. Someone will tell you one thing and another person will tell you something different. They don’t keep track of what you have completed so you’re constantly being told you have to do something you already did. Nobody knows any information unless it’s regarding the script they have to read!! The veterans affairs office also is notoriously hard to get into Contact with unless in person and even then the advisors don’t give a shit about you! Edit: I transferred out of the school but, that process is just as bad. Another EDIT: I CANT EVEN FULLY WITHDRAW FROM THIS PLACE!! I have called over 10 times about trying to be removed from their system so I can get financial aid and receive my official transcripts in another state. So I cannot even transfer to the school I want and start the semester for my degree plan. This place needs its processes changed.

I've had problems from the very start, from Alamo colleges having 2 accounts/ banner id's that caused problems and delays in getting registered, to my first set of classes. Instructor had me on his roster twice, causing issues with my grading, that now 3 weeks into class, has still not been resolved. I'm taking prerequisites so I can transfer to the nursing program. If Galen wasn't so much more money I'd have just done their program, instead of dealing with the red tape and passing of the buck with Alamo Colleges Do not recommend

Yelp
Wow, this came full circle very fast. I graduated from Saint Phillips College in 1998 with pretty good Grades!! Student study groups!! Aces everything. Deb H is in heaven. God guided me to go to this college. For a reason. I said a prayer to go to college and I should have gone into culinary school. But then some talked me into going into healthcare. I paid my way to college. I respected every professor on that campus. And now I stand in 2025 and find out that you fired a professor of biology. For stating what??? I will never give anything less than five stars for this college. Firing the professor? There is only biological male. biological females. told the x-ray tech back then that I didn't believe in 1997 Yes, I broke my spine. I wish I would've listened to the master PT. Yes I did. I helped the nurse. Retired LPTA. And CI in SC. By the APTA. You know that I had a doctor save me at the age of 50. That doctor saved me. Because I am a 100% biological female. You know that my bones are super strong now. Cow's Milk All because I didn't take hormone replacement therapy too. I'm a retired American citizen. With a plate on my neck. Anterior approach cervical fusion. C4 small concave compressed disc fusion C5-6. Guess which part is breaking down. C7 You wanna hear the kicker. I'm allergic to pharmaceutical general anesthesia and the pain medicine of opioids. Bummer. Fall 2023 no medical insurance. Bummer. Back in 1998. We had to pass 78%. I didn't pass my Texas state board exam the first time. And I realized what I didn't study. But I sure did pass it the second time. Don't ever complain about this college!! You fired a professor?? Because of chromosomes? What went well? My final grades. And then passing the Texas state board. With flying colors.

Yelp
I Cain't schedule with advisor Carlos solis for an advisory appointment at the Southwest campus at San Antonio Texas . I logged into ACES and it says no up coming appointment yet . He blocked me cause I missed 1appointment on my whole life . Now I cain't enroll for all 2025 who knows maybe my whole life . I wish someone could help me at the college there . I can assume I'm not the only one struggling.

Yelp
Been tryna get into this college for a good 2 years. I have 2 years of previous education at another college. A university. The main issue was getting my math credit (Statistics) approved to be transferred over to be exempted from taking the TSI. I put in the request and I never got updates despite doing calls and emails. I gave up. 2 years later, I try to get in again. Took them over a month in a half to get back to me just for them to reject it. I ask why it was rejected and they said the course description didnt have enough information to come to a conclusion so they requested my syllabus. I get ahold of my dean from the university to email me the syllabus for Statistics. I send the syllabus over to the advisor for St Philips with the caption "Pls put in a request to have it reviewed a 2nd time using the syllabus as a reference." No response. Not even confirmation that the syllabus was received. The next day, I ask for an update and confirmation that a 2nd request was put in. No response. Its been 2 days (and no its not the weekend) and I have not received phone call updates, email response updates, nothing. I'm better off going to a private college and paying more if it means I can get my education started up again and have timely responses. Expecting professional, timely communication here is unlikely. I feel like I'm communicating with kids, not adults. Any update--even if it was,"I'm sorry. I have not gotten any information back yet," would've been a good enough response instead of being ghosted and playing the waiting game. The last response I got was why they rejected my request and them requesting a syllabus. Over a week ago.

Yelp
St. Philips College has terminated a BIOLOGY professor for teaching that SEX is determined by X and Y chromosomes. This is the same stuff I learned in freshmen year high-school biology, and they had the nerve to state that the professor was "religiously preaching." If we cannot rely on our education institutions to TEACH FACTS and not THEIR POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES, then it is not an educational institution, it is an indoctrination camp. Fire the administrators that made this decision, I'm hopeful that the professor sues. This is just ridiculous.

Yelp
A school who fires a biology teacher who has been teaching the same curriculum for 20 years with nothing but acalades in his career, from students and faculty alike, gets fired to humor a few students is not a school I will send my children to. When I went to college no one was pandered to, we went to be educated...even if we disagreed we sat down and shut up uless and until we engaged in debate with the teachers. We certainly did not baby cry to staff and if we did we would have been told we are in college now, not kindergarden. A resounding BOO for this "college."

Yelp
The financial aid was nothing more than a joke. I registered for classes ahead of time, and they still said that I had to register on the first day when classes start or I wouldn't be able to attend those classes. It was already paid for, so why did I have to cough up MORE money out of pocket when the financial aid supposedly told me that the classes were already paid for??

Yelp
If I could rate this college a zero, I would. This is the worst college I've ever attended, and I've attended 4 so far for various programs. I came here for the nursing program specifically. But I did deal with the college academic advisors and financial aid. The academic advisors were completely incompetent and extremely frustrating to deal with. They lost paperwork I sent, including my transcripts from a university that I have to pay for copies of. I physically handed this transcript to an employee and then it magically disappeared. I should have taken that first sign. But I stayed. Financial aid was equally frustrating. I use a tuition waiver letter. And every semester financial aid would mysteriously lose the copy of my letter and demand payment. The letter should have been in my file! It's the same thing I used the previous semester! That was such a headache. Now for the nursing program. This was the biggest group of unprofessional people I've ever met in my life. I expected better from an HBC (Historical Black College). After all, that's a huge reason I chose this particular school. If you are considering nursing, I beg you, do not choose this program. There are some truly phenomenal instructors, but they are not leadership. The leadership is what makes this program so terrible. From the beginning, there were issues. They also lost paperwork and my drug test. They advised me to go to the lab to sort it out but that's impossible because when you test for an institution, those results don't belong to you they belong to the institution. They *should* know that. But they were either too lazy to help or too inept to know that's how it worked. I wasted so much time and money trying to sort that one out. They did not even inform me I was enrolled or that they received all they needed until the morning that classes started. Testing was a nightmare. I failed a couple of major exams because the testing browser requires an exorbitant amount of bandwidth to run properly. More than regular household internet. I tried testing at the school and it was always a no. And no retests were allowed. So I had to just swallow my pride and accept grades that I know my capabilities exceeded. We had instructors that would test us on material they know they did not lecture on. There were instructors making easier versions of exams to give to their own classes they taught and harder exams for the class they didn't teach. If you have a grievance, they'll tell you to follow the chain of command but they won't tell you what it is or who it is. Basically what it comes down to is, there is no help and no support. When I was very ill practically delirious with fever and quarantining for COVID, our class was on zoom and there was absolutely zero grace. I could barely sit up, but if my face wasn't fully visible, I was getting told off and written up. Other students would zoom from their bed and would be told nothing. Communication was an absolute joke. No one was on the same page. Not for our class schedules, not for clinical assignments, exams, anything. But you were held to the standard whether you knew or not. And after that, after surviving ALL of that, my cohort graduated. And the program director will not do her part to send affidavits confirming to the Board of Nursing that we did, indeed, graduate. She won't sign and send the papers. So that means the board of nursing will not let us work. And we are not allowed to schedule our board exam. It's been 2 months. And it is recommended to take your exam within 3 weeks of graduating. They have completely failed us. And the program director will not answer calls or emails. This delay is costing us thousands of dollars for the jobs we could have but can't accept over something as simple as a signed piece of paper. And since the ideal testing window is closed for us, who knows how many times some of us will have to test in order to pass. Do not choose this program.

Yelp
This school has a majority of health careers available and I must say they are very thorough and how they teach their programs. If you don't fit the bill they will make you repeat it. But all in all it is a very worthwhile school and has much to offer. I don't regret any of my time there looking back. And they have a great bunch of counselors to advise you on your programs.

Yelp
Another really nice event in its 21st year. Who knew? The St. Philip's campus is so spacious and has more than enough room to accommodate the festival that is Culturefest. The usual festival foods can be found: turkey legs, sausage wraps, corn dogs, corn cups, and several food trucks offering BBQ and fried foods. This is a family event and on a school campus. No alcohol is offered. A nice-sized stage had a rock and roll cover band playing the classic rock hits. Admission is free and food/drink tickets are $0.50 each. Plenty of various game activities: a dunking booth, mechanical bull, climb a rock thing, bouncy thing. Fun to watch the brave folks and their attempts. This festival runs from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm today only.

Yelp
Overall cost is good, Great professors that generally care and want you to be successful. Lots of great healthcare careers as well

Yelp
This review is base on the financial aid/business offices. We had no issues the first year, went very smoothly and everything was processed correctly. This year they completely dropped the ball, causing my son to extend his graduation date due to their incompetence and lack of ability to solve the problem. Still waiting 2 weeks into the semester and still no resolution and no one willing to take responsibility for their mistake. If you plan to attend I highly recommend you don't wait for them to do their job but call and call and call. As an educator in a major San Antonio school district I may think twice when suggesting this college to prospected students.

Yelp
It is hard to be objective about this college. I felt like it was a throwback to the 19 70s when there were no rules about treatment of each other. A lot of the teachers were very rude and hateful and insulting. The financial aid staff will scream at you if you don't understand something and you asked them several times. I found a lot of the Health Care classes in the biology and Anatomy classes to be extremely difficult only because of the teachers they have there. I was told not to complain because there would be retribution and I was also told that it didn't matter anyway because management was very aware and condoned these behaviors. If you want to take a Health Care Program take occupational therapy or respiratory therapy because they are run by top-notch people. The X-ray tech is also a great program.

Yelp
Came here to attend a play, Was turned away by campus police because "doors close at 8." Tried seeing if there was any way there was any chance he could let my girlfriend and I in since it was only 10 minutes after, straight no. Didn't realize this student play was that serious considering the attendance was low. THEN when turned away, another couple or pair of people walked up and were allowed inside!!! To top off the situation my grade will suffer too since this was part of a project grade. Overkill of security for a small play. Horrible.

Yelp
I'm a transfer student from NM and currently going through the process of admissions and getting started. Let me say, this campus is nice, BUT the staff isn't very knowledgeable. I would advise to do YOUR OWN RESEARCH first and ask a lot of questions. I'm a transfer student and they almost had me do entry testing to see where I was placed academically AFTER I was asked to get my transcripts sent. I had to help them understand that I should be EXEMPT from testing since I had already taken & passed college level math & English courses. After this, they agreed and said I am exempt from testing and will need to send transcripts. I saved myself $32 testing fee and 4-5 hours of my time. Basically, just pay attention to what you're doing and do your own research. According to the reviews, this is a great college, they just struggle on knowledgeable staff in admissions. AND it's affordable for me.

Yelp
I really like this college, it has surpassed my expectations. The campus is neat and well groomed, the people are very nice and teachers are eager to help you if you have any problems or questions.

Yelp
I have been attending classes here for almost a year now. I don't have any complaints as far as the classes and teachers go, but the financial aid office and advisors leave MUCH to be desired. My advisor has always shown up late and I end up being late to class because of it. He also doesn't give me a lot of information. The financial aid office is awful. I managed to get aid last year with minimal problems, but these past few months? A nightmare. It's very difficult to submit anything they ask for online, so I go into the office to submit paperwork in person. I have been into the office 4 times. Each time, they tell me they can't help me until I bring in a document that they "forgot" to mention before that I needed to bring. The last time, in frustration, I brought in EVERYTHING I could think of that I might possibly need to bring. Turned out to be a smart move, as the lady behind the counter told me that I needed a document that I had been told the time before that I didn't need to submit. When I pointed this out, she was like "oh yeah we just changed the rules". She assured me that I had now submitted everything I needed and should watch my email for a confirmation of aid coming my way. It has been several weeks and all I've gotten is yet another email telling me I still have things to submit (things I know for a fact I have submitted). I live over half an hour away from campus so it's not like I can drop everything and go talk to them. And whenever I try to call them I can't get ahold of them and they don't return my messages. Highly unprofessional.

Yelp
I do not recommend this college at all. I give it a big 0! The advisors are all mentally incapable of assisting students with registration or problems that arise during the registration process. They are quick to respond as rudely as possible in hopes to keep you from bothering them. My advisor registered me for the wrong English class because they used my STAAR test scores instead of my SAT scores. Same exact thing happened with my Math class. I was unable to withdraw from the class since I was already a week in when they informed me I was registered for the wrong class. They would have to redo my FAFSA and I would lose credits. Ugh, so extremely frustrating and beyond dumb. I have lost all trust and every expectation I had from a higher learning institution. I also had a problem completing a test due to internet issues with the hotspot I borrowed from St. Philips. What do you think happened when I contacted my advisor? Nothing, absolutely nothing. She had no idea what to do or who to contact after I told her my teacher was refusing to reset the test. My mom, who is an early childhood teacher and student advocate had to advocate for me instead of my advisor. My mom had to start an academic grievance to get it straightened out because my teacher was falsely accusing me of not submitting assignments from Sept. 21 when I had already turned in every assignment. Next semester I will be transferring to UTSA instead.

Yelp
I've mainly taken all my classes at San Antonio College and I have to say the few professors I've had here are far more engaging!
google avatar

Jenna J.

Yelp
All I have to say is that they are absolutely TERRIBLE at answering phone calls. Every time I try to call for registration help, no one ever picks up. It's not like I am calling outside of office hours.

Yelp
I must admit that I wasn't initially impressed with St. Philip's due to the disorganization that I first encountered from some of the staff. However, once I began to see what this college has to offer, my viewpoint changed. While I believe that more communication is needed with the Registration, Admissions, and Counseling departments, I appreciate St. Philip's. This college has many opportunities, and its history is quite interesting. The President also cares about the success of the students and does her best to encourage and celebrate achievement. I definitely recommend St. Philip's!

Amanda G.

Yelp
I've previously been to three other colleges/universities and have taken some classes online, so I am comparing SPC to all of my school experiences. Absolutely love this Alamo College. Working with their advisors is way easier than my secondary Alamo College! Their veterans advisors and department is on top of everything. With all my documents required, I was able to enroll full time with my class schedule in a matter of an hour and a half. There is always parking, never really any traffic getting to the school, and the environment is the best. I've had some of the best professors who challenge you and your mind, yet they give you many opportunities to make up where you lack. They force you to think and learn and exceed the minimal requirements. If you're looking for a hand out and are not going to go the extra mile for your education or grade, maybe this school isn't the one for you. I've previously heard there were "rude" professors and people who would "yell" at you if you didn't understand something; a few things to add to that, as adults trying to get a college education, "rude" or "yelling" staff is very unlikely. Even if it does happen, as adults, maybe the thin skin should be shed. This college will prepare you to be independent, intelligent, and to have a strong minded personality. The campus is easy to navigate and everything is in close proximity. The environment is great. I always feel safe and positive and love going to SPC.
