If I could rate this college a zero, I would. This is the worst college I've ever attended, and I've attended 4 so far for various programs. I came here for the nursing program specifically. But I did deal with the college academic advisors and financial aid.
The academic advisors were completely incompetent and extremely frustrating to deal with. They lost paperwork I sent, including my transcripts from a university that I have to pay for copies of. I physically handed this transcript to an employee and then it magically disappeared. I should have taken that first sign. But I stayed.
Financial aid was equally frustrating. I use a tuition waiver letter. And every semester financial aid would mysteriously lose the copy of my letter and demand payment. The letter should have been in my file! It's the same thing I used the previous semester! That was such a headache.
Now for the nursing program. This was the biggest group of unprofessional people I've ever met in my life. I expected better from an HBC (Historical Black College). After all, that's a huge reason I chose this particular school. If you are considering nursing, I beg you, do not choose this program. There are some truly phenomenal instructors, but they are not leadership. The leadership is what makes this program so terrible.
From the beginning, there were issues. They also lost paperwork and my drug test. They advised me to go to the lab to sort it out but that's impossible because when you test for an institution, those results don't belong to you they belong to the institution. They *should* know that. But they were either too lazy to help or too inept to know that's how it worked. I wasted so much time and money trying to sort that one out. They did not even inform me I was enrolled or that they received all they needed until the morning that classes started.
Testing was a nightmare. I failed a couple of major exams because the testing browser requires an exorbitant amount of bandwidth to run properly. More than regular household internet. I tried testing at the school and it was always a no. And no retests were allowed. So I had to just swallow my pride and accept grades that I know my capabilities exceeded.
We had instructors that would test us on material they know they did not lecture on. There were instructors making easier versions of exams to give to their own classes they taught and harder exams for the class they didn't teach. If you have a grievance, they'll tell you to follow the chain of command but they won't tell you what it is or who it is. Basically what it comes down to is, there is no help and no support. When I was very ill practically delirious with fever and quarantining for COVID, our class was on zoom and there was absolutely zero grace. I could barely sit up, but if my face wasn't fully visible, I was getting told off and written up. Other students would zoom from their bed and would be told nothing.
Communication was an absolute joke. No one was on the same page. Not for our class schedules, not for clinical assignments, exams, anything. But you were held to the standard whether you knew or not.
And after that, after surviving ALL of that, my cohort graduated. And the program director will not do her part to send affidavits confirming to the Board of Nursing that we did, indeed, graduate. She won't sign and send the papers. So that means the board of nursing will not let us work. And we are not allowed to schedule our board exam. It's been 2 months. And it is recommended to take your exam within 3 weeks of graduating. They have completely failed us. And the program director will not answer calls or emails. This delay is costing us thousands of dollars for the jobs we could have but can't accept over something as simple as a signed piece of paper. And since the ideal testing window is closed for us, who knows how many times some of us will have to test in order to pass. Do not choose this program.
