10 Places That Do Justice to Montreal Bagels | Eater Montreal

"Why not go straight to the source to enjoy a myriad of bagel delights? In addition to their bakeries on St. Viateur, the company also has a number of sit-down cafés featuring their iconic bagels. The menu goes well beyond traditional bagel and lox platters, serving up a variety of bagel sandwiches from BLTs to smoked meat. (There’s other locations in NDG and in Dollard.)" - Mallory Frayn

Kind staff with good service! Cool to see how the bagels were made. They tasted very good! Nice variety of souvenirs as well. Traditional salmon bagel was really good! Steak bagel is alright, great portion but the mustard was a lot and kind of throws it off.

What’s a trip to 514 without St Viateur Bagels. We decided this DDO location rather than the flagship location due to parking limitations The inside is neat and clean. The service good. The vegan cheese was not available the day and I was really looking forward to having them. The Breakfast Sandwich was enjoyed thoroughly. The Joel bagel not so much as the ricotta was way less. Wow bagel was OK - the marinated egg plant had a bit of a bite (have yet to find without a bite) The vegan bagel was OK as well. The bagel good, but missing vegan cream cheese. Coffee was good, wish it was stronger and more hotter.

After hearing quite a bit about 'Montreal bagels', I went out of my way to stop at St. Viateur on my trip. This isn't the flagship location, which I think suited me well - it was fairly quiet when I went in on a Tuesday morning. I got a traditional (smoked salmon) on a sesame bagel, and must say, it was a damn good sandwich. The bagel was very different than what I'm used to in the NY/NJ area, but in a good way. The bagels seem to be smaller, lighter, less doughy, less chewy and slightly sweeter than a NY bagel. All in all, I really liked my first experience with a Montreal Bagel and would definitely come back to St. Viateur the next time I'm in Montreal!

A cozy little place that’s great for a quick lunch. I highly recommend trying their bagels fresh out of the oven — they’re warm and extremely soft. Definitely worth a try if you’re nearby. Their bagel sandwiches were not bad but the bagel for those sandwiches didn’t taste as good as the plain ones straight from the oven. Overall, a nice spot with good bagels, especially when they’re fresh.

The only place to get real bagels & poutine is in Montreal! I had to definitely pick up some bagels while in town. I was not disappointed. So much more than bagels. Great prices and selections.

So the famous St-Viateur Bagel shop now has a DDO location in the West Island. They also make sandwiches here, but unfortunately the kitchen closes at 2pm, boo! But you can still get fresh hand made Bagels and more till closing time.

The best smoked salmon bagel I’ve ever had in my life. We also ordered 12 bagels to take home. All the staff at the cafe counter and bagel counter were super friendly. Thanks for everything!

This...THIS is a Montreal bagel. For those of you who don't know, St-Viateur bagels are the tip top of bagel royalty. If you've never had a bagel, it's a style of bread prepared into rings by hand where the dough is boiled briefly before it's baked! The result is a soft chewy bread that is good by itself or as base of a great sandwich! Speaking of sandwiches, there's a separate component of the bakery that makes sandwiches using the bagels baked freshly that day! If you went to Montreal and didn't have a St-Viateur bagel then you didn't go to Montreal.
