Montreal’s Most Iconic Foods | Eater Montreal

"Some New Yorkers may snub our thinner, sweeter, and less-bready version of the bagel, but along with smoked meat and poutine, it’s one of the city’s most celebrated foods. With several locations, St-Viateur is Montreal’s big bagel success story, although roughly half the population swears by its main competitor, Fairmount, a few blocks away." - Valerie Silva

Where to Eat Jewish Cuisine in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Pick up a dozen fresh sesame seed bagels to go at the 24-hour landmark St-Viateur shop, or sit down for a smoked salmon sandwich or bagel spread at one of their cafes on Mont-Royal or in Dollard-des-Ormeaux." - Heather Vandenengel

Every Notable 24 Hour Restaurant in Montreal, Mapped - Eater Montreal

"A block north of its counterpart (or some would say its competition), St-Viateur bagel offers a similar no-frills bagel experience to Fairmount. The difference between the two is subtle, and a point of contention for many Montrealers, but in any case, St-Viateur makes an equally quick, similarly affordable pit stop for hand-rolled bagels in many flavours. A tip: These bagels are best ordered warm, and plain sesame have more often come straight out of the oven, while the fancier counterparts tend to be made just once a day." - Audrey Carleton

I’m a big bagel fan so I came here when I was in Montreal with my wife and in laws. The bagel was great, as expected. To my great delight, the pickles were also sublime. I’m a pickle fan as well so I very pleased. 5/5.

Small bagel shop with tasty bagels. Just a take away shop with no seating. Cash only but they do have an ATM. I got two bagels to try. The sesame was warm and right out of the oven and delicious. The all dressed bagel was not warm and pretty chewy. I would recommend getting a warm bagel as it was very good.

Heads up! Make sure you are aware that you need to assemble the bagels by buying the toppings you want and that there is no seating area to eat them. Great bagel! I recommend getting one right of the oven.

I didnt know bagels could be this good. I always thought people were overhyping them. Specifically the rosemarry bagel is perfect. The outside has almost a crip edge and the inside is dence and chewy. The rosemarry adds a nice freshness and savory twist. The price was great as well. We ended up getting 6 at a time and almost ate them all in one sitting. The next time we came here we got a handful of their other options like the sesame, apple, and everything. The sesame was almost too fresh to the point that it was a little doughy. The apple wasnt actually as fruity as I imagined but was still pretty decent and the everything bagel was the perfect combo of salt and savory. The line seems long but it moves super fast and there are two locations so you can always go to the other down the road if this one is too long. Overall a must visit if you are in Montreal.

How does this have so many positive reviews? It was simply terrible. Perhaps we were unlucky and received a cold, dry, stale and difficult-to-eat bagels. Generously giving it 1 star since the pigeons seemed to like it.

My second time to drop in and just grab a bagel, add some cream cheese and a slice of salmon, most amazing way to eat a piece of culture when in Montreal. Absolutely love this place. The staff are always friendly and the bagels are most likely the best in Canada. Want to see my food stories, head over to my YouTube channel Junk Food Japan and let’s go !
