To start, we have no issue with the quality of food at this restaurant. We have visited it many times over the years and have always had a good meal. Our most recent visit, however, was extremely frustrating and disappointing.
We arrived at Stacked at 5:35 p.m. for dinner prior to a show at the ABT. The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated immediately. The hostess left menus, poured water, and advised us that it might take several minutes for our server to get to us. No problem, we had plenty of time. As it turned out, our server approached an took our orders with five minutes, i.e. by 5:40. At 6:10, a full half hour later, we still had not received our food and we had not see our server again. At 6:15, our server, presumably finally noticing this, approached and stated that there was either a problem in the kitchen because the restaurant was busy or, alternatively, there was a problem with their computer system. She stated that our food would be out soon and that she would be giving us a discount.
Frankly, the "backed up kitchen" excuse made no sense because we had seen other patrons who had arrived and been seated after us have their orders taken and their food delivered while we waited. Our meals were finally delivered -- by a different person -- at 6:35, a full hour after our arrival.
The food was fine, as usual. When we received our check, I looked at the ticket because I knew that it would show when the order was placed. (Our server apparently forgot or did not know this.) The ticket showed clearly that the order had not been placed until 6:21, more than five minutes AFTER our server advised us about the purported "backed up kitchen" or "computer" problem and more than 40 minutes after it was taken. Plain and simple, she forgot to put our order in and, rather than simply admit that, came up with a laughable and cockamamie excuse.
After advising us of the "backed up kitchen" and/or "computer" issue, we did not see her again until we requested our check. Our food, as noted, was brought to us by a different person. In the more than an hour that we were at the restaurant, our server did not even refill our water glasses (the only beverage we had.) She gave us a 20% discount ($6.60), which was fine, but pretty paltry given the deplorable service. I expect more from this restaurant.
