The Most Exciting Austin Restaurant Openings, May 2025 | Eater Austin

"This historic inn, reopened between Georgetown and Waco after a 2023 closure, pairs longtime menu traditions (hush puppies that have appeared since 1947) with a revamped menu from the team behind Monument Café in Georgetown. The updated offerings include Southern classics like fried chicken salad with honey mustard, chicken-fried steak and chicken, roasted cauliflower purée with chimichurri, grilled steelhead trout, and an assortment of sandwiches including a burger, patty melt, and BLT." - Courtney E. 14 Retro Motor Lodges Around the United States

"The oldest continuously-operating hotel in Texas, Shady Villa predates the American motor lodge heyday. Actually, it predates the automobile entirely and goes all the way back to another sort of road trip: The original 1861 building was a stagecoach stop for cattle drivers on their way up to Kansas. Additions and new construction came along in the 1940s and 50s, transforming the historic place into a small-town destination resort." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at the historic Stagecoach Inn in Salado with a lively group of gardening friends, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—from crisp salads to hearty entrées, everything was made with care and quality ingredients. What truly stood out was the exceptional service. The wait staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large group, making sure everyone was comfortable, orders were right, and glasses stayed full. They were attentive without being intrusive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with just the right balance of Texas charm and quiet elegance. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over lunch and good conversation without feeling rushed. Highly recommend for a relaxing meal, especially if you’re looking for a place that understands hospitality and great food. We’ll definitely be back!

Cute hotel with clean bathroom and beds. Large swimming pool to enjoy in a beautifully landscaped area. Loved the porch and chairs at the front entrance to the room. It did have the flair of a renovated motor hotel but it was well done. Prices were inflated when we went around July 4th but it is a great location and a lovely walk to anything in Salado - the creek, art complex and brewery are all walkable.

They served me chicken fried steak without the gravy and told me they were out of gravy after they served it to me. My brother got fried Chicken and it was pink in the middle. He got mild food poisoning and had to suffer through his little vacation. Then they charge me $57 out of my deposit for something unexplained that happened in the room. They require $150 deposit for damages or whatever. My 80-year-old dad my out of state brother. My son and myself were just trying to meet and hang out. It's a good thing this won't allow me to post pictures. Pool was nice. You've been warned. The surrounding areas kick ass.

We ventured from DFW for a night away and chose the Stage Coach Inn in Salado. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and so cute. We had a balcony which over looked the pool. The grounds were well kept. It would be a great place for a family reunion. We will be back! Also, enjoyed our evening at the 1859 club for open mic night. It’s a short walk from the Stage Coach.

Cute place but managed poorly: pool needs to be vacuumed, needs to be skimmed (bugs and leaves everywhere) and there was a thin oily slick on the water. Who runs a bar with no tonic water? Or cranberry juice? The service was good and so was the food but you have to walk to the restaurant to get service, no bar on site till weekends. No one replaced the towels, coffee mugs (there were no glasses to begin with) Nor did the trash get picked up much less an offer to fix the beds. There is no ice machine around. The twenty somethings in the front office seemed more interested I playing at management than actually managing. I’ve always enjoyed my stays at the Stagecoach Inn over the years, but won’t be back.

We went to the restaurant not the hotel. Newly reopened! What a fabulous meal. And Catie was an excellent server. About the food…. The goat cheese dip was superb. Would have come for that alone. The whole meal was delicious. Catie was the perfect server, great recommendations and attentive to the table needs.

We did not stay at the Inn, but we ate lunch at the restored and remodeled restaurant. We visited Salado a year ago just to see the historic Inn. At that time the restaurant was in the process of their remodel so we put it on our calendar to return once the restaurant reopened. We were thrilled and very impressed with their restoration. The main dining room is very modern with lots of large windows to view the majestic oak trees and green lawns on the property. It is simply stunning! They have several other rooms that have been restored with fireplaces and flooring that preserve the history of the Inn. After exploring the restaurant, we asked for a table that was next to one of their ceiling to floor windows. Our waitress was named Paige. She made sure several times that we were 100% pleased with our meals. I'm trying to eat healthier so I ordered green beans as my side. Delicious! They were not overcooked which happens a lot in Texas. They had just the right amount of snap to them just like Paige said they would. We got a kick out of the yummy complementary hush puppies they bring as an appetizer. How appropriate, they even looked like large gold nuggets. The main meal was perfect and we couldn't resist finishing with the gluten free chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. So...good! I personally believe that this restaurant is the future of Salado. The little town is one of our favorites. They check all the boxes for a fun day trip and we plan on returning to stay at the Inn with its spa like ambiance. If you are a golfer they have a great 18 hole golf course just down the street called Mill Creek.

This is our first time at the Stagecoach, and we absolutely love it! The hotel is so cute, the rooms are very spacious and well equipped, the pool is fabulous! We just had dinner at the newly renovated restaurant; the food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambience was great! We were shocked at how reasonably priced the hotel rooms are for what you get! I highly recommend the Stagecoach Inn and Restaurant!
