The Best Bars And Restaurants On Rainey Street - Austin - The Infatuation

"Stagger Lee is a somewhat nondescript bar in the middle of Rainey Street, but we keep coming back for the friendly staff, the large patio, and the surprisingly good food coming out of Metcalf BBQ in the back. It’s dark and cool inside—making it a welcome escape from the Texas sun if you find yourself here during daylight hours—with leather couches and large wooden tables for hanging out." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Google
It came recommended by a friend. Service and environment were perfect. Wonderful bluesy folk playlist and high sound quality. Cocktails were superb, especially "The Moon". Glad we picked this for our birthday drink. Thank you!

Google
Lovely bar with innovative tarot themed cocktails 🍹 we enjoyed our drinks and the great service :) also very much loved that they have a separate smoking and non smoking area, which was great for non smokers like us

Laura Mayo

Google
A great choice for cocktails lovers and those who (like us) are non smoking. You get the option to sit in the nonsmoking section of the bar on entry. Highly recommend a stagger lee beer old fashioned, we will definitely be visiting again.

A hidden gem of a bar with a chilled, cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff & incredible cocktails! We enjoyed the drinks so much that we visited for a second night during our short stay in Berlin. 🙂

Came here for a chill birthday celebration. We wound up having the back room all to ourselves. Great cocktails both alcoholic and non. Loved the ambiance; cozy saloon vibes. If we hadn’t had other plans we could’ve easily spent the entire night at this bar. If you’re in the mood for a lowkey spot with great attention to detail and quality cocktails, check this place out!

We ordered Frida Kahlo for €15 and Tower (from their Fall Season selection) for €14. I liked my cocktail (Frida) but my husband was not impressed by his drink. The place is really cozy with large leather couches & dimmed lights. We were sitting by the window and there was a little shelf under the table to put your coats bags and stuff - I like it but it occupies the leg room. They have both smoke friendly and smoke free rooms, as non smokers we appreciate that freedom of choice in Berlin 😄music is not that loud, you can hear each other which is a really important factor for me when choosing a place for a date night 🤍 I suggest you to make a reservation in advance if possible because we couldn’t secure a place in our first try during the night.

Yelp
Hanging out with the locals... first impression lasts -- loved the ambiance here ! First a gentle knock on the door, and comes the the waiting with full anticipation...whether you will be able to get in or not ...then there is a party of 6 people, we were so lucky to be able to get inside & hangout by the bar. A classic decors with full of traditional-bar-scene. It was also nice to have an English menu -- but not a worry, the staffs speak perfect English, especially when communication about cocktails . The mixologist was fun & professional with the drinks-mixing & recommendations. We really enjoyed the experience here. It was a very cozy place with many great options for cocktails. Prost

Yelp
Excellent drinks, excellent atmosphere, and great staff. We felt so comfortable here and loved all of our drink. Favorites of the night were the Mexican Mule and the Friday Kahlo.

Yelp
If you're a cocktail connoisseur then this is a place to add to your rotation while in Berlin. Stagger Lee is a hidden gem nestled on an unsuspecting block. From the outside, the facade looks rather quaint but, ring the bell, step inside, and you'll feel like you're in another place during another time. The place is surprisingly large once you're inside. The decor is reminiscent of an old parlor or saloon with an intimate, dimly lit ambiance. Step on up to the bar and they'll give you a unique leather-bound book to thumb through as you careful choose your craft [cocktail]. The offerings are unique, the ingredients vibrant and fresh, and you can tell a significant amount of attention and detail went into each creation. I gravitate toward liquor-forward and it certainly shined in the cocktails I enjoyed during my visit. If you're into liquor-forward like me, you won't be disappointed. I had the Lee's Boulevardier with rye, vermouth, and artichoke liquor. I also enjoyed their old fashioned. Both were solid, strong, and hit the spot. My S.O. went for a few options that were more 'creative.' I, of course, swapped tastings and loved every sip of hers just a much; nothing was too sweet or fruity. Cocktails here will run you an average of $14/each but this is standard fare for the qualitu. Bartenders know their shit, hands down! All in all, if you love craft cocktails and you're in Berlin, this is THE PLACE TO TRY.

Yelp
Legit great cocktails served in cool, classy decor. Just the right size, too - enough space to meet a few friends and hear a nice buzz in the background, but still small enough to feel cozy, to feel like you've discovered something. Lots of good bars in Berlin but I keep coming back to Stagger Lee. The Bastardo Verde is an eternal favorite. But on this menu you can't go wrong.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I have been to a smoking bar and the only person smoking was sitting right next to us so we got all the fumes! ;) This is not a dig but the reality of this spot. It had a unique menu of drinks but I opted for a beer. The space is little but seemed to be a bit much for one waiter as he missed some of our orders that night. In general, a nice stop for a drink.

Yelp
A little bit speakeasy, a little wild west saloon. Miles (? I hope that was his name, it was a long night) was a great bartender and made sure we drank and drank and drank. I always thought people avoided drunks Americans (and one Englishman) but he pulled up a bar stool after the doors closed and joined us. Everything was well crafted, I don't think there is anything I wouldn't recommend (maybe just watch out for the Alabama Song if you aren't over the top in love with bourbon, it's a heavy pour..or so it seemed.) We tried going a second time but it was on the weekend and it was slammed. I would've loved to try everything on the menu.

Yelp
I love cocktail bars so my brother decided to look up suggestions from Yelp and we decided to go check out a couple of bars one night. This was our first stop. It's a Western themed bar and I liked the decor, the music, and the drinks. However I quickly realized the thing that I'd hate in Berlin bars - they allow smoking! Seriously?! In an enclosed indoor space? If I lived in Berlin I'd probably be going out to bars much less than I do in NY because of this. But anyways, I can't take the against the bar itself.. The cocktails themselves were delicious! I ordered a bourbon drink of course, the Alabama Song. My brother ordered a tiki cocktail which was good but not my type of drink. Over all I liked the bar a lot because of the atmosphere and the good cocktails.

Yelp
What's saving this from a slating is that the cocktails are actually really good!! Yes we went on a Friday night but the service was soooooooo slooooow! Honestly, I think from the time I ordered it took 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and it wasn't that busy.. Like I say though, the cocktails are excellent & there's a good hipstery vibe to it. If you don't might waiting for ages for your drink then this is a place to go

Yelp
Another decent Bar in Berlin. Come early and have your pick of where to sit..otherwise you might have to stand..The service was ok about 5-6 min before someone takes your order or acknowledges you. Most of the seating is at the bar unless your with a large party.. I came in alone to give a proper review. I feel that this is definite list maker so you have to stop here when visiting berlin or if your in the mood for decent drink. The pricing is better than some of the more popular speakeasy style bars. recommended

Yelp
One of the best bars in Berlin! Great cocktails, awesome and handsome bartender such as a perfect atmosphere!

Yelp
Great place. Had a spicy cherry mezcal cocktail which was delicious there. Has that speakeasy vibe. Also has an area of dusty four roses bottles on collection

Yelp
A really nice cocktail bar Decor is (kind of) Wild West Saloon vibes, furniture is comfortable. Cocktail menu is impressive, huge choice. Prices are a little on the steep side but cocktails are STRONG!!! Wow.... In a good way :-) Service was friendly and good - I'd call it relaxed rather than slow.

Yelp
The bar looks like it is out of a western saloon era. I love the crazy pictures on the menu, and the bar man has a lot to tell you about his unique cocktails. You can literally taste the experience in your cups.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Berlin, I visited a bar on a recommendation from a friend. Honestly having no idea what to expect --except for, maybe, steins of beer, I was pleasantly surprised to find this glimmer of greatness quietly nestled in the middle of a nicely trimmed residential street in the Schöneberg area. My friend and I randomly dropped by early on a Sunday evening, but it wasn't exactly open just yet. We had to ring the doorbell, again - at the recommendation of our friend, and the bartender greeted us. We told him that we were sent by our other friends, and he immediately recalled. He quickly set-up shop, and we were having drinks in no time. The place is uber-American in many respects, but especially in that "old time saloon" kind of style. Dark wood that screams "speakeasy" is a constant within the space, and the dim lighting is accented by lighted candles spread out around the rooms. There are a mixture of high-top tables, sofas, and even a back room that screams "poker." The look and feel surely takes you back to a different time and place, adding to the overall charm. The selling point of this place, of course, would be the drinks. Crafty and made-up of all the important things known to mixologysts the world over, the drinks tell a story... and are made with so much care that sometimes you wonder if you should save the artfully made concoctions and place them on a mantle for all to see. But the drinks at Stagger Lee are made to be enjoyed... sipped... savored... Our bartender, Robin, made the experience all the more worthwhile. Aside from knowing his stuff behind the bar, he engaged us in conversations that encompassed everything from what's to know about Berlin (and Germany in general), to tattoo art, music, travel, and even childhood experiences. He definitely adds to whole aura of the bar, carefully tending to his customers while crafting together drink after drink. Robin's "Perfect Manhattan" is like no other; and the real deal potency of that drink (and the other ones that I tried) are a testament to his mad-skills with the shaker, bottles and bottles of liquor, and all the other ingredients on-hand to make the most perfect drinks. When in Berlin, be sure to hit up the Stagger Lee... and make it your bar away from home.

Yelp
I want to give this bar 6 stars. I wouldn't have wandered into this place had it not been for Yelp. On a cold, wintry night, wandering around the vast city of Berlin, I craved something other than the hotel bar, or random pub. I went on New Year's day, they were closed. So I went back on January 2nd. That's how insistent I was to try the cocktails in here. It's got a tiny prescence on a small street, so it's easy to miss. Upon entering you notice 2 things: it's dark, and it's small. Which means, find yourself a comfortable nook and be prepared to camp there all night. We chose to sit at the bar, closest to the bartenders. But then again, everywhere is close to the bartenders. On that particular night, it was quiet (i.e. not crowded). The bartenders, two charming females (possibly lesbians as we were in the 'gayborhood'), were really putting their all into those cocktails - they paid so much attention to each cocktail, carefully measuring, vigoursly shaking, stirring. The bar's menu includes cocktails that have bitters, egg whites and the fair share of bourbon, etc..It's creative. It's inviting. It's romantic. It's where you want to be on a winter night.

Yelp
So happy to see the cocktail culture embraced in Germany. Excellent cocktails. There's a sign on the wall that says "soup of the day: bourbon"
google avatar

Yelp
Probably the best cocktails I've had anywhere in Berlin. The prices are high for Berlin, but it's definitely worth it if you appreciate really high quality cocktails. You ring the doorbell and the waiter who is polite yet pleasantly reserved. She shows you to your table, and you get an overwhelmingly well assorted and actually really funny to read. It takes some time to get your drinks, mainly because good drinks take time to make, and they are worth the wait. Remember, this is not a place to get drunk. Have a drink or two, then move on to a kneipe or a club. Anecdote: First time I was at Stagger Lee, I saw the bartender spend 10 minutes making my Old Fashioned, only to pour it in the sink and start all over as it was not completely perfect. Dedication with a big D!

Yelp
Great bar with cool ambiance. The drinks were very unique and enjoyable. Will definitely visit again next time I am in Berlin.

Yelp
Cosy bar with a good selection of whiskies and cocktails. especially the continental sour is great

Yelp
Nice place. Well preped drinks. Prices are on the higher side. Most of the bar is also non smoking now. So if you're bothered with the smoky atmosphere of Berlin bar scene, this is good news to you.

Yelp
The service is very slow and quite abrubt. Seating limited and this place gets very busy so prepare to stand and wait. The cocktails are extremely good and if we could have found a seat we would have sampled a few more.

Yelp
We were with a party of three, one Berliner, a Münchner and me from Amsterdam. My partner and I had been to Green Door once and really liked it. Our Berlin Friend hadn't been so we decided to show him. He arrived before us and was told by the lady at the door that the bar was full but she could squeeze us in. So our friend entered but as he couldn't find us went out again and was told that he wouldn't be able to get back in now as it was too full (like he was told originally). So when the rest of us arrived we had to look for a different place nearby for a drink. I was a tat disappointed as I really like Green Door, but don't mind too much trying something else if I have too (-; Yelp pointed us to Stagger Lee. Not far from Green Door so we decided to give it a try. If you can bear the smoke (which will vary from hour to hour of course) this place is just a great as Green Door. I was not disappointed, and that really says something. The female bartender was super friendly in welcoming us, seating us and suggesting drinks with ease and knowledge. I tried two and both were very nice! The music needs a bit getting used to, but perhaps it's different styles every week? Most certainly a keeper, either as an alternative to Green Door or as a new favourite.

Yelp
Really cool cocktail bar. I can't remember everything but it was definitely all good.

Yelp
I gotta give this place a big thumbs up. Well crafted cocktails (the Alabama Song is epic) comfy atmosphere and a friendly feel. The decor is 'American', the music of an era long past, and the joint is named after a Nick Cave song. How cool is THAT? Its an easy walk from the Nollendorf Platz Ubahn station as well. I'll definitely be back here for cocktails again.

Yelp
Wonderful decor, atmosphere, and most importantly, drinks... I felt like I was walking into that TV series "Deadwood"! Try the "Last Word," with gin, chartreuse and lime...

Yelp
Cocktails are on point and with complexity and layers of flavors! Cowboy Western theme that has a menu story over Stagger Lee! Enjoy!

Yelp
A great bar with amazing cocktails. The decor is really nice, it has a very down to earth feeling. I love the leather sofas, perfect to enjoy a nice cocktail.

Yelp
They do make the best Sazerac I've had in Berlin. Probably the best I've ever had. Worth a detour.
google avatar

Steve U.

Yelp
wow. you're getting a drinkable work of art here. i stumbled out of here and into a cab and the waiting arms of tylenol and gallons of water. the cocktails are labors of love and they taste amazing. i started with a sazerac that had a nearly perfectly spherical ice (cube?) ball to cool the drink which kept me nursing it far longer than advisable. the mint juleps are real mind blowingly good mint. i don't think i've ever had drinks this good.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Nick Cave did not do this song originally. This song has been around for about 100 years first sung by, most agree, John Lomax. I will have to give this place a try perhaps for I am a tavern keeper in that same murder city Stagger Lee owned a club.

Yelp
Very nice place, good lighting, good music, friendly bartender, unique menu and story, Cocktails are really good.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok bar with a good vibe. There was way too much ice in the glasses so they would be empty after 5 sips. Quality of drinks was mediocre and honestly a bit overpriced. Service was nice. Overall a bit disappointing.

Yelp
Best bar I've been to in some time. Let the bartender make a recommendation. Tell them what you like and they'll set you up. Super friendly , great service and no pretense.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere in this well-kept secret of a bar... Geheimnistipp extraordinaire. Ecclectic cocktails, tasteful decor & extremely talented bartenders. A must-visit in Schöneburg.

Yelp
Nice cocktails but unfriendly people. And too far away from where I usually go out.
