Chicago Bars Share Their Best Football Team Traditions | Eater

"A Wicker Park favorite for LSU fans, offering Cajun‑leaning fare like crawfish boils, Abita beer, and substantial starters such as grilled triple cheese, jumbo wings, and chorizo mac and cheese. The kitchen stretches into surf‑and‑turf territory with a Beyond Burger paired with a whole tail lobster, and the bar highlights craft beers like Revolution Anti‑Hero IPA and Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition to complement the game‑day atmosphere." - Vox Creative

Google
Definitely a great place to watch the game or just to grab a drink and/or dinner on any night. The large open atmosphere makes you feel like you can actually breath and relax at a bar. The food was awesome! Not to mention they don’t skimp on portions. Great specials and the bartender on Wednesday evenings is kick ass!

I went to watch an NBA finals game last week. Food: I had BBQ Wings. The ranch on the side was average. The wings were eh. I truly felt like the chicken wasn't seasoned at all and it was just cooked and the sauce was added at the end. Respectfully speaking, a load of seasoning isn't needed, just add seasonings before cooking. The taste was bland. The wings have potential. You got this Chef! Drinks: I had an Old Fashioned made by Hannah and WHEW! (In a good way) Service: It started going up (in a good way) once Hannah took over. She provided good service! Atmosphere: Average sports bar noise. Not too loud to where you had to yell. Final Thoughts: It was ok. It was standard (no pun intended lol). Hannah was great though!

Casual sports bar with trivia on Tuesday nights! I got the beef barbacoa tacos and nachos. Good portions of beef but the tortillas were way too small. Nachos were good but nothing special. Service was attentive considering the busy night. Good sports bar vibe.

Google
THE BEST SPOT IN CHICAGO FOR UFC. Really cool space, tons of TVs, expansive bar menu and great food options. Amazing customer service, friendly bartenders, the BEST bouncers. Just be polite and make a reservation in advance as a courtesy to the staff, space gets packed during peak sports season 😉

Awesome place to drink and watch the game! A TON of huge TVs. The food is top notch. Great staff. I’m definitely coming back… a lot

Google
Certainly. Here’s a polished and professional version of your Google review for Standard Bar and Grill: ⸻ We hosted an event at Standard Bar and Grill last week and couldn’t have been more pleased. The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and incredibly efficient. The food was outstanding, with every dish impressively flavorful and well-prepared. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between energetic and welcoming, making it an ideal setting for a group gathering. With every game on across multiple screens, it was a sports fan’s dream. We highly recommend Standard Bar and Grill for any occasion—whether you’re planning an event or just stopping by for a great meal and fun!

Google
The last time I visited Chicago I met some friends at standard bar and grill. Overall I had a really great time. The service was fast and welcoming. The food was delicious. And the overall atmosphere was what I would expect in a great Chicago neighborhood bar. I will definitely be making a stop at this bar the next time I’m in Chicago,

Yelp
This is the best brunch deal around, killer prices for even better food, seriously so good. Service and atmosphere are amazing. Besides brunch the beer selection is great and the dinner menu is just as good. Just moved to this area and so excited about this place. Will be back a bunch!

Yelp
Aside from the outrageous cover for fight nights, this is our fav neighborhood bar. The drink prices are reasonable, the servers are attentive, lots of TVs for all the games and the food, though yes bar food, is surprisingly tasty!! We've tried burgers, buffalo chicken salad wrap and salad, wings, waffle fries, sweet potato fries, and the XL pretzel and we would order it all again! I'm obsessed with the Buffalo chicken salad which I strangely pair with fries My husband says the wings and burgers are surprisingly good for a bar. Not Chicago best level of course but very solid.

Yelp
This is our go to spot now for sports games and weekend brunch! We are new to the area and have visited The Standard more than any other restaurant in the neighborhood. You can't beat the friendly staff and good deals ($12 for a breakfast burrito or omelette with potatoes!). They also have $4 mimosas on the weekends. Plenty of indoor seating and dozens of TVs make The Standard an excellent choice for watching any live sports.

Yelp
I came to watch a WWE PLE with a couple of friends on a Saturday afternoon. We had the upstairs level with volume reserved while the downstairs patrons watched college football. We had multiple TVs, with good sound quality, and our own small bar. For food, I had the fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Not a bad sandwich, crispy outside with some slaw, aioli, and pickles. Manager was pretty friendly with beer recommendations as well.

Yelp
What a great experience! We called in advance to see if a particular baseball game would be on, and not only did the owner put the game on when we arrived but they opened up the second floor for our group so we could hear the sound. The bartender who served us was friendly, and service was great. Everyone was so accommodating and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot for drinks, food, etc!

Yelp
Detroit style pizza isn't Detroit style? Pizza is called Detroit style but it's a thin crust with "Detroit style toppings" if I wanted thin crust I'd go literally anywhere else in Chicago. Toppings can go on any pizza. Misleading as hell. Change your menu. PS the pizza is still soggy even when well done.

Yelp
This place was pretty standard.. haha We stopped in for a drink and the prices weren't cheap but not expensive It was just okay... we were in and out

Great place to watch a game. UFC every Saturday night. Always a good time at Standard.

Yelp
I was in Wicker Park for one day and came here for lunch with a friend, it was awesome! We had a bunch of appetizers and a couple local draft beers. A Bears game was on and the local crowd were having a blast! I enjoyed the experience so much that I came back at the end of the day for a night cap! Lunch was great. We had the cheese curds, a pretzel, and the steak quesadilla. All were super tasty! The marinara was a great dip for the curds. The pretzel came with 3 cheese dips that were all great. The quesadilla was delicious and came with some tasty salsas to kick it up! The service was great and people were friendly, definitely recommend this place! Check'em out!

Yelp
This place had a great atmosphere to sit out in the patio area. They were very busy due to it being derby day. They did not give us exactly what we ordered. We went ahead and ate it after allowing the waitress to know. She told us she turned it in right. Ok ... well that didn't help us... we ended up with fried not grilled fish tacos and slaw they put on chicken sandwich after we asked there to not be any! Also sauces with the pretzel tasted like two types of powdered cheese mixed up and ranch. Not sure who eats ranch on pretzel but the menu said beer mustard. Hopefully it was just a rough day, we were already having one ourselves.

Yelp
I don't think this is the place to come for food. A drink? Yes. Starving? Sure. Good quality food? No. But that's ok! They have other things going for them! The waitresses were very nice and friendly and the staff was having a fun night, you could tell. The cheese curds marinara sauce dip was watery, curds were nice.

Yelp
Place did us a favor and put the MLB Playoff game sound on Upstairs in October of 2024! Chicken tenders were actually very good and big and got 5 of them for like $12! not bad! Buckets of beer, place got crowded later in the day on a Saturday, but great customer service! Bartender was hot too!

Yelp
Another lovely visit! I'll be brief, but they are so lovely to pets and the food is always fantastic. So glad this place is here!

Yelp
On the outside it says happy hour everyday 5 -8p, martini's $9 so of course I stopped in. We orders two lemon drops and ... you get what you pay for. The bartender was nice and tried to fix the drinks by adding a bit of pineapple however it was terrible. It's a full bar so sure they have other good drinks. I'd just avoid the happy hour martini's.

Yelp
Well, the good news here is the name is very apropos. This is indeed a standard and quiet average bar and grill. The space was large enough and has 2 floors, very clean and had huge tvs everywhere. My partner and I were at a cocktail bar nearby and wanted quick bar food and a tv to watch the Packers lose (Go Bears!); we figured we lucked up finding this bar. Again, the bar was clean, patrons were fun and bar staff were nice. The food and drink however? Underwhelming. The quesadilla and burger completely lacked flavor. Cocktails were not good either but hey at least you are served with a smile which my reasoning for giving three stars. If you are looking for a place to drink a couple of beers with friends and watch the game, this place serves its purpose - some might say, it's pretty standard *drum noise*

Yelp
Thanks Aaron and Mike (I think...) for helping us have such a fabulous party at Standard! I hosted my fiancés surprise birthday party here and the service was amazing, everyone was so helpful and kind and made sure to help the surprise and party go so smoothly. Everyone had a great time- 100% book a party here if you want everyone to have a ton of fun. Thanks again for the great food, drinks, and helping ease all of my worries! You guys are the best!

Yelp
7.2/10 It is a great place to enjoy watching Monday Night Football with your friends in the heart of Wicker Park. They have a decent selection for bar food and drinks, a bit pricey. Street parking was not an issue.

Yelp
We had our Engagement party there recently and the staff was fantastic! Matthew and his staff went above and beyond for us. Great Event Space, Great Food and great service! Looking forward to coming back I definitely would suggest planning your next party here!

Yelp
Great place, great staff, great selection of sports to watch due to multiple big screen tv's. GEAUX TIGERS!!

Yelp
Our go-to local spot for delicious food. Margarita pizza, soup and grilled cheese, and burgers are all so good. Veggie burger is great!!! Def way above Standard ;)

Yelp
Charged a hefty cover at 6pm for a fight at 10pm when we just wanted food. There was plenty of seating and tables available. A complete disappointment.

Yelp
Loud | Fried | Bayou Bengals | Service -Loud: the atmosphere is typical for a bar scene. We were there at 1900 and the music made it hard to carry a conversation, even though the bar was at half capacity. -Fried: the fries were delicious. Both sweet potato fries and tater tots do not disappoint. Salad and chicken sandwich were average, not great not terrible. -Bayou bengals: it's an LSU backers bar, so I imagine the scene gets much rowdier when the game is on. -Service: always prompt, waters continuously filled without having to ask, and the server always close by when we needed something. -Minus 1 star because of the noise level. In an ironic twist the noise level is that of a standard bar and therefore, you have to be in the mood for a rowdy environment to truly enjoy this location. Pro tip: each additional sauce side is a $1 charge which is not expressed when ordering. I switched ranch for blue cheese dressing and still got charged. Same for a side of bbq sauce for the chicken sandwich.

Yelp
Love this place! The staff is so nice and the energy is great, I got the nachos and my boyfriend got the steak tacos, will for sure be going back!

Yelp
This is my second time here, I came back because the service I had the first time was spectacular and I loved the vibe! Peyton was our bartender both times and I cannot rave about her more. She had the entire bar top and every table to herself and held it down with ease! Never had to wait longer than 30 seconds for a drink even with how busy it was. And I tried the food this time around, the quesadillas are amazing! This place just earned themselves a new regular

KayeJaye S.

Yelp
Great service (Katie). Food options are wonderful - not at all usual bar/fried foods. TV's galore.
google avatar

Miles A.

Yelp
The only thing that's preventing me from putting 5 star review is the prices since they were kinda high. The food, drinks, and service were amazing and the background music was really good! Definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent wicker park dive and sports bar! The staff is amazing with attentive service. The food is fantastic: from the pizzas, to the burgers, and holy wow the cheese fries are amazing. THE place to go for any big game, fight, or Chicago drinking holiday. The manager Matt is a wonderful human. Peyton and Dalia and phenomenal bartenders.
google avatar

Yelp
Typical sports bar to swing by. Beers were kinda expensive, even if you were getting buckets. Didn't try the food there but seemed like typical bar food. There are a bunch of spots on the street so will prob bounce around to check out some other spots

Yelp
This place is average to say the least. I go here bc it is an official LSU bar and since Im from B.R. I can watch the games there with other LSU fans. But I typically don't go anymore bc of the service, (mediocre) food selections.( food is not good at all) Even for a sports bar. Drinks just ok. I was there for a private bday party on Saturday and the party was dope because well my friends are dope. I ordered chips and guac.. Nasty chips and guac at that. That is all and I left my card at the bar. When I realized it (Sunday) I called and I did in fact leave it. I was told that I could pick it up after 2:00 when a manager was there. ok no problem. When I pick it up the lady who is fact was my waitress on Saturday informed me that is it a 18% gratuity tacked on for leaving your card. Hmm ok so I look at the receipt and it is $31.02.. for chips and guac? Im sorry ma'am what did y'all add on this check since I wasn't around to close out? She tells me I need to call for the manager Aron because the manager there couldn't help me and or look up tickets? So you are a manager that cannot look up previous tickets? What are you there for? Once I call and of course dont get Aron I get the manager that "cant do these type of transactions" he tells me I need to fax, email or text him my receipt. Uhmm sir i have the ticket number I can just give you that and you can look it up correct? He then says he will have to call me back tomorrow to help with this issue *insert eye roll. Food blah, service sub-par, drinks just ok...

Yelp
Some time ago while in the area running errands I stumbled upon Standard Bar & Grill. As a college football enthusiast, it instantly became a bookmark once I saw that the bar was a supporter of the LSU Tigers. At the beginning of the college football season I loved the idea of visiting the college football supportive bars because the environment is the second best thing to being at an actual sporting event. Furthermore, I visited it on New Years Day to watch the LSU Tigers vs UCF Knights. I always visualized the inside of the bar as something on the lines of a Buffalo Wild Wings, but once I entered it, it looked like your average sports bar with many televisions inside. And in this case, it was filled with die-hard LSU fans, which I expected upon visiting. The menu consisted of foods, such as burgers, pizza, salad, wraps, tacos, wings, chicken tenders, sandwiches and tortilla chips. There were vegan choices too! With that, the meatless sloppy joe dip was one of the items that caught my interest, which consisted of vegan meat crumbles, melted Chihuahua cheese served with garlic bread. I ended up ordering a pepperoni pizza due to it being the only thing that my appetite could handle at the time. Considering that the bar was crowded, I did not have any expectations on receiving my food fast, but it was received in a timely manner that was not disappointing. Even though I had just a water and my food, the bartender was very attentive to not just me, but the others that sat at the bar, as well, which is something that I always admire about bartenders and servers. I cannot say much about the pepperoni pizza I ordered, but it did do its job. Options for parking include metered parking near the bar, or either neighborhood parking which could put you further out from the bar. I ended up finding a spot near the bar paying only $4 at the meter for just 2-hours. With that, I recommend arriving to the bar early or either taking the train if you live outer neighborhood. Overall, I had a great time at Standard Bar & Grill, and definitely would return, but that would be strictly for sporting events only. With that, I will surely be on the lookout for future LSU Tigers games, even though the bar supports all of our other Chicago sporting teams. I tend to get much rowdier watching college football versus the professional teams. Take note of their everyday specials, which involve food, beer, cocktails, shots and wine. With all being mentioned, I hope this review assists you in any way. Thomas G

Yelp
This place was great! My fiancée and I were in the area doing some shopping and decided to pop in for a quick bite and we were very pleasantly surprised! We ordered a pretzel and some chicken tenders to start, and then also had their fried onion burger. Everything was fantastic! The pretzel was huge! And so delicious - it came with three dipping sauces and all were fantastic. The tenders were also a large portion size so we ended up being able to take some home. And the burger was sooooo good! It was also massive and it had everything I could want! It came with a side of fries (regular, sweet potato, or waffle) and I opted for waffle and they were done to perfection! All in all, we both really liked this place. It's very sporty/sport-oriented inside, and the general ambiance is a good, laid back feeling. We had a great time and will likely stop by again when we're in the area! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Unfortunately I'm leaving a bad review, apparently they just added a new cook and it's just been a terrible experience. What we had: Veggie Burger - tasted terrible "so sad because it used to be super good" Southwest Salad - no black beans, I could count the tiny pieces of tomatoes and avocado, I didn't even see much of the cheddar cheese. It was so disappointing. Margherita pizza - this was so, so disappointing. It was literally brought out w/o basil, and the pizza looked like it was thrown together with no thought at all, like the tomato was falling off one edge, way too much cheese that wasn't melted all the way through. Oh... they did bring out the basil as a side thought about 60 seconds after they placed the pizza down, when it was set on the table they didn't say they forgot to place it on there. We actually gave feed back on the pizza and the manager was super nice and had the pizza remade, and that time it tasted and looked great. I will return again, I've had so many good experiences here before and the staff is great, it's been a go to for me especially after work. Only one image of the awful pizza.

MK K.

Yelp
Good food absolutely no complaints. This is real sports bar so they will put on any game you want which is great. Service can be a bit slow when it is busy, 1 bartender does not seem like enough on peak times. To the management: Please get a place where you can plug your phone in. There are none unless you flag down the already overwhelmed bartender...This is 2023. I wish we could go back to the land line days. Everyone would be happier and less stressed and not looking at their phone every second. The reality is the opposite.

Yelp
For the most part, all Wicker Park bars (at least on Milwaukee ave) are all the same; just some dinky, dark divey spot to grab a large amount of brews to get blackout drunk while playing your heart out on pool. Standard Bar & Grill stands out at least, even though it is merely a...well, a standard bar and grill. It is pretty on the inside at least, with two floors worth of seating and sports watching. First floor is absolutely huge, with a huge ceiling and a dancefloor that apparently comes out for the weekends. Second floor is slightly smaller, but still some room for some booths and a bar. Unfortunately, the bar on the second floor doesn't offer the same amount of drafts as the first floor, but nevertheless, this bar offers a huge list of brews for the beer aficionados. Food was alright here. I only had some apps each time I went here. The cheese curds were alright as bar food goes, and the quesadillas were adequate. Absolutely nothing special. I'm just here for the brews and sports. Went here for a couple Bears games, but the energy was everything I expected: big! I always enjoy trying out different spots in Wicker Park, and it's nice to see something different in this neighborhood, such as a sports bar. Will think about coming back for the next big game in the upcoming future.

Yelp
This is a nice 2 story place. They have huge screens all over the place giving out a vibe that this is a sports bar. The bar looks very modern, trendy and clean which you dont see in a lot of spots bars. They have a wide variety of drink selection and the prices are comparable to a lot of places in that strip. The staff was friendly and accomudating. We were here for the halloween week and was very impressed about this place. I am knocking off 1 star because they have a weird entrance to this place.

Central C.

Yelp
If you're a UCLA fan, you're not welcome here. They used to be very Bruin friendly and now the bar tender said she will not serve Bruin fans. She should keep her mouth closed and just serve the drinks. They also used to have a Bruin flag up to show support for all the good basketball teams but now they took it down. Don't worry we got the message and I will make sure others don't do the same!! Bad business!!!
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
The food wasn't the best at this bar- it was pretty standard ha ha. I got the fried chicken salad with buffalo sauce, since the normal buffalo chicken salad came with grilled chicken. It was tasty with the buffalo sauce, but the fried chicken was pretty meh for fried chicken. Fun bar spot to watch games and chill with a group during the day though. Great wicker park location too.
google avatar

Julie A.

Yelp
Went here to watch the Cubs game, they have a great vibe for sports watching with a crew. Guacamole was great and had a little spice which I like! Tacos I thought were a little overstuffed, could have been split into 4 tacos which would also be great for sharing. Still very tasty steak!

Berk Ç.

Yelp
It's a wonderful place!! Good stuff, delicious foods and bartenders always make you smile. Best sports bar at Wicker Park!!!
google avatar

Redrico R.

Yelp
Love the abundance of TVs, and the beer is nice and cold! I ordered the steak tacos and it was delicious! Parking is convenient around here and the outdoor seating is great when the weather permits. I'll have to try the other menu items but so far from my experience, I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
We just moved into the neighborhood and this is our favorite local bar. They play all the sports games and the food is great. They have plenty of outdoor dining seating and the inside is heavily ventilated as well (if your concerned about indoor dining). The cheese curds are a must if you are just having a few drinks. Our favorite thing on the menu is their wings, they're HUGE. We just recently had the BBQ wings and those are equally good or if not better than the buffalo. The staff is also very friendly and service is fast. I highly recommend this bar to anyone.

Josie T.

Yelp
Just visited here last week for the first time and i was so impressed by the staff, hospitality and service. There are TVs lining the whole bar so you can catch any game or event you want! they have a huge garage door that opens up to give natural light and warmth. Food was amazing, staff felt like friends to me by the time i left!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Been here a few times and can always get a table. Just don't try to go during an LSU game. Most recent time got the southwest wrap with tater tots. Pleasantly surprised as I didn't remember the food being that good. But the wrap tasted exactly how I expected (and wanted) it to taste. Which is exactly what you want a bar.
google avatar

Jaycen H.

Yelp
As an LSU graduate finding there was an LSU style bar in Chicago was an unexpected find. During my visit I was met by really friendly management and wait staff, who were incredibly accommodating and really made an effort to make sure we were satisfied and enjoying our visit. The Southwest burger had a great taste and paired nicely with a great beer. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Its like any sports bar you could expect to find in Wrigleyville except greatly upgraded. If it was transplanted to Wrigleyville, I think it'd be one of many of the most popular bars there. So if its games you'd like to be catching, here's a spot in the WP, you could catch it at. Afternoons are more sausage filled due to games. The weekend evening is when the vibe is different and tends to draw the crowds like which used to attend the lounge which was here previously. Food is alright and fairly priced since most burgers, salads and sandwiches come with a side. Try the tots & they give you plenty. Most of their selections are priced between $6 and $13 dollars. The Fried Chicken sandwich is decent though you may like to ask if they can add a sauce to it or keep the slaw on the side. They also offer nightly booze and food specials. As a whole, it's okay, to me at least. It's a nice enough bar. The interiors and washrooms are kept very clean and its details are all new looking. I think it's the feeling from a few of the bartenders or the door guy. An inability to connect with everyone. (There's one door guy here that is an ass, but that's another story.) It's not as inviting or social able. There tends to be a group vibe, many of which know each other but for the random passersby, not as inviting. Essentially, I would probably have an inexpensive but decent meal in the future but would I have it as a destination bar with friends? Probably not. That's the thirty's me speaking. The 20's me, might have liked it more.
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
I've been here a few times for drinks, only once for food. After nixing Whiskey Business down the street because it was packed, we picked Standard since they had outdoor seating (it was one of the first nice days of the spring). Our server was attentive at first, but the service got slower as the night went on (we think she had the entire inside plus the patio to serve), but we weren't in a huge rush so it's wasn't a huge deal. They had $3 Blue Moon drafts (count me in!) and $5 quesadillas. We got a quesadilla to share among the table, and then each got a salad for ourselves. The salads were chock-full of ingredients, which I liked, and we all enjoyed ours. Sitting on the patio can get noisy, as Milwaukee Avenue is behind you, but that's not really Standard's fault, just a fact of where it's located. When I've been here for drinks later on weekend nights, it's always packed (almost too much so), but that's to be expected in that area.

Yelp
Extremely average. This place used to be great but the service and food is not good - the waitresses they have now are awful. The last two times I've had to go up to the bar to get another drink because the waitress is nowhere to be found. This was the "Nachos" that we're $10. Just a plate of chips. The only redeeming qualities are the size, amount of TVs and domestic bucket deal ($18.).
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
If this place was booze only I'd have to give it 5 stars...but man...the food here is so blahhhh. I've wanted to make this my go-to spot since I live 30 seconds on foot from here. I've tried maybe 1/3 the menu- really giving it a chance...everything from the pizza to the wings-to the burgers- to the tacos, and none of it is better than the frozen food aisle at Jewel. This is an awesome place to grab a drink and watch a game, but come here with a full stomach.
