Some time ago while in the area running errands I stumbled upon Standard Bar & Grill. As a college football enthusiast, it instantly became a bookmark once I saw that the bar was a supporter of the LSU Tigers. At the beginning of the college football season I loved the idea of visiting the college football supportive bars because the environment is the second best thing to being at an actual sporting event. Furthermore, I visited it on New Years Day to watch the LSU Tigers vs UCF Knights.
I always visualized the inside of the bar as something on the lines of a Buffalo Wild Wings, but once I entered it, it looked like your average sports bar with many televisions inside. And in this case, it was filled with die-hard LSU fans, which I expected upon visiting.
The menu consisted of foods, such as burgers, pizza, salad, wraps, tacos, wings, chicken tenders, sandwiches and tortilla chips. There were vegan choices too! With that, the meatless sloppy joe dip was one of the items that caught my interest, which consisted of vegan meat crumbles, melted Chihuahua cheese served with garlic bread. I ended up ordering a pepperoni pizza due to it being the only thing that my appetite could handle at the time.
Considering that the bar was crowded, I did not have any expectations on receiving my food fast, but it was received in a timely manner that was not disappointing. Even though I had just a water and my food, the bartender was very attentive to not just me, but the others that sat at the bar, as well, which is something that I always admire about bartenders and servers. I cannot say much about the pepperoni pizza I ordered, but it did do its job.
Options for parking include metered parking near the bar, or either neighborhood parking which could put you further out from the bar. I ended up finding a spot near the bar paying only $4 at the meter for just 2-hours. With that, I recommend arriving to the bar early or either taking the train if you live outer neighborhood.
Overall, I had a great time at Standard Bar & Grill, and definitely would return, but that would be strictly for sporting events only. With that, I will surely be on the lookout for future LSU Tigers games, even though the bar supports all of our other Chicago sporting teams. I tend to get much rowdier watching college football versus the professional teams.
Take note of their everyday specials, which involve food, beer, cocktails, shots and wine. With all being mentioned, I hope this review assists you in any way.
