On the Grid : Standard Pizza

"Standard are serious about one thing only: pizza. The calzone is bellissimo however there are no bad choices when the dough is made daily and practically melts in your mouth. Photos really don’t do this place justice so you’ll just have to try a slice (or 8) for yourself." - Gabby Lord

Standard Serious Pizza - Review - Prenzlauer Berg - Berlin - The Infatuation

"It feels like there’s always a new Neapolitan pizza place opening up in Berlin, but Standard Serious Pizza is the standby that’s been around for over a decade. Go for a classic margherita with fluffy dough and buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes from Italy, or one of the daily specials that might be topped with mortadella and burrata. The restaurant has three locations that all have a pretty minimalist looks, but the original one in Prenzlauer Berg is where you should go for a loud, energetic atmosphere we love. It can get pretty packed at night, so it’s best to reserve a table in advance unless you’re okay with a potentially long wait." - Cindy Brzostowski

Google
If you’re looking for some great pizza in Berlin, this is definitely one of the best spots you’ll find. I tried the Margherita and it tasted amazing. The flavor was really good, and the bread was super nice too. I’m a big fan! If you go inside during busy hours, it can get a bit noisy with loud music, but honestly, that’s pretty normal in Germany, especially in Berlin. They also have outdoor seating if you’d rather enjoy your pizza somewhere a bit more chill.

Google
The service was good and deserves 5 stars, but I can’t give them that rating because I wanted to add artichokes to my Margherita pizza (since they are listed on the menu), but my request was denied. I was told that the chef cannot or does not want to put artichokes on a red pizza (with tomato sauce), only on a white one. I was speechless after that response, and because of it, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

Google
The best pizza I’ve ever had. The perfect balance of flavour. So soft and fluffy dough, even after it cools down. With deepest respect to the baker. And also good cocktails

Google
Great experience. The staff was really kind and prompt. Just the waiting times were a bit too long and we were starving. The prices are also a bit higher than I expected, but I think it’s all about inflation! Nonetheless the pizza was delicious and totally recommended.

Google
Unfortunately overrated You pay 20€ for a pizza that just lacks taste. I had sort of meatball one and those just tasted like nothing. And also a honey salami one that was basically swimming in an ocean of fat We also waited over an hour for our pizza - for a pizza! Another minus was we sat too close to other people. Our elbows almost touched

Google
Pizza was ok, ricotta cheese in the crust is a nice idea but the rest of the base is limp. Asked if the pils was a pilsner and ended up with some alcohol free off-fruit flavoured craft beer nonsense and was simply told this is a pils

Google
It’s incredibly hot inside!!! Pizza was good but the service could improve. I joined my party late and had to ask for things multiple times (fresh silverware, clean empty glass for water….) The place was crowded and it’s was super hot inside. People in my group had to step out of the restaurant to get some fresh air.

Google
It was very tasty, BUT – • The reservation confirmation came only 4 minutes before the reserved time. • When we arrived, it was clear that our table had already been taken, and we were given another spot which, to put it mildly, should not be considered a dinner table — you sit right in the passage between the wall and the bar counter, with people constantly passing by and bumping into you. • The pizza was delicious, but we had to wait 40 minutes after ordering it, and before that we had already waited 15 minutes just for the waiter to come.

Yelp
Great food, service and spot Server was friendly and pizza delicious Try daily special

Yelp
This restaurant has the best pizza I have tasted in Berlin. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. She knew the menu well and recommended her favorites. I am an American so I have a hard time reading the German menu. They don't have an English menu which they should consider it won't take long to translate. Other than that food and drinks are in point. I will visit again in the future hopefully they will have an English menu by then.

Yelp
Went there again today and I'd rate it 5 stars straight again. This time I can add something to my review. The DOUGH is what makes this pizza absolute incredible. The freaking Dough is Godlike! The tomato sauce and cheese quality and taste is nothing special and I'd say you get better taste and quality somewhere else in Berlin BUT you can't beat the dough. Fluffy, tasty, crunchy. It's simply perfect.

Yelp
A gem of a gem of a gem. The food was delicious. The manager or owner treated us arriving at the busiest time of night as if he was greatly disappointed that he couldn't seat us immediately. The food was outstanding. Incredibly good deal for the money too. It reminded me of what it was like to eat out before the pandemic. They speak at least three languages in the restaurant (German, English, and Italian) and probably more. I honestly wanted to return immediately for my next meal. When we left the manager looked us deeply in the eyes and thanked us sincerely. More than an eating experience. Makes me sorry to not live in Berlin. I will issue only one warning: the kitchen is very tiny so you will wait for your food. Get a drink. Talk loudly with your friends at the table. Banter with the staff. It is worth the wait.

Yelp
Ordered Margherita and Nduja via Wolt. Both pizzas were great! Definitely one of my favorite pizza places. One pizza was slightly messed due to the transport I guess, but it wasn't too bad, and of course didn't impact the taste.

Yelp
Pizza Pizza Pizza! This is fun, casual spot perfect for eating & drinking in a group without pretention. They have a large wine list and a good selection of draft beers (including craft beer from Berlin). The pizza menu is unique with interesting topping concoctions. Great pizza, great booze. What else do you need in life?!

Yelp
Extremely delicious pizza. Having the option to sit outside in the half shade on a sunny day was very nice too and the staff was super friendly too. The drinks are pretty expensive but you can look up the menu on their website for further info.

Yelp
Really good Neapolitan pizza. They can get busy, so try to book ahead so you don't have a wait outside for 30-60 minutes. In the end I prefer the basic Margherita with bufala mozzarella, but they have many other options and rotating specials.

Yelp
The Standard is a fantastic place to get awesome pizza and good wine! Came here after a night of festivities in Berlin & did not leave disappointed. Some of the best customer service experiences I've had in Germany too. We ordered the Diavolo del Monaco pizza with spicy salami & 12 year aged mountain cheese. It was spectacular! Great price too. Two of us split that & it was plenty for the morning. The music selection was fire! Really cool. You NEED to eat here if you're in Berlin. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
Pizza completely different than in another restaurants. This is true, but that means is it better? It's a matter of your taste. For sure surprising size served cake. I admit that the pizza looks very appetizing at first sight. But completely is doesn't hit in my taste. After eating too much cake, I felt just too heavy. Pizza totally without salt and generally tasteless. Price as presented products too high. Service very nice. But I know a better places.
google avatar

Yelp
The place is nice and always packed. I don't like their pizza though. The dough is missing salt, it's not crunchy and it's true that it tastes special - just not the way I like it. Tried it several times, because I live close by, but won't go back again. Try A Magica next to Gethsemanekirche instead or even Due Forni, just a few hundred meters away.

Yelp
Neapolitan pizza is what you want to have in 2019 - it truly makes you wonder why you were ever happy with the other stuff, a bit like a bottle of basket Chianti in retrorespect. That being said - 'Standard' doesn't set the standard for this dish. A little too rich, too chewy, too salty and loaded with way too much cheese. In Berlin I'd recommend you try 'Prometeo' instead. And then about the wait ... come on ... 45min for a pizza? Bigger oven, more ovens, less seats, or advance warning, please...

Yelp
I recently ordered a marguerita pizza, after several years of going here, mostly for takeaway. I was disappointed to find a large portion from the center stuck to the box. More frustrating, is that there were pieces of meat on the pizza. I am a lifelong vegetarian, so the meal was not edible. I wrote an email to the team to let them know my experience. I received a dismissive reply from the owner, informing me it was pepperoni and that since they are not a vegetarian restaurant, it's not an issue. He refused to refund the uneaten meal, offering a €5 coupon towards the next pizza. Considering how successful and busy this place is, I found his reaction to be quite insensitive and unprofessional. Not that he seemed to care, but I won't be returning because of his attitude and lack of regard.

Yelp
Delicious, chewy crust, with a healthy amount of salt - just like you would find in Napoli!!! Great service, chill servers and staff. Food came out quickly, but we were in no way rushed. We ordered one large salad to share and had the pizza Bianca special and the Standard Bianca with eggplant and pesto, which had a hint of a smoky flavor to it. This place just bumped out my go-to pizza spot for #1 in the hood!

Yelp
The classic Margarita is superb! Really, no need to try another combination. The fist time I had the margarita it was truly great, delicious sauce, good cheese, fluffy base. Super! However, yesterday I tried the Caprese Pizza, and although the fluffiness was on point, the toppings were really tasteless, sadly It did not come with the tomato sauce, which made the pizza super dry & the tomato has no taste or juiciness whatsoever. I couldn't finish the pizza. So my tip: go for the Margarita! It will be amazing and cheaper anyway.

Yelp
With regards to legit Neapolitan pizza in Germany, this is the best my wife and I have had so far! In regards to just pizza in general, it's still excellent! For about five months we have been living in Germany and couldn't find a really good pizza place. Within the past few weeks, however, we found two very notable ones! Never give up hope! In all seriousness, the pizza here is as good as you'll get in the Campania region of Italy, which is pretty much the main thing my wife and I ate during our visit to the area. The pizza costs almost 2x as much as one you'd find there, but it makes sense as they apparently source their ingredients from Campania. The pizzaiolo himself also apparently hails from Naples and holds a diploma from the AVPN, so yeah, I guess it's pretty legit. I still sometimes dream, and drool (so I've been told), about the amazing chewy and doughy crust as well as the delicious toppings on the pizza here. I also apparently throw my hands around in a fit during these dreams, trying to shoo the bees away that tried to get some of our pizza without paying their share (we ate outside)!

Yelp
We drove up to this place by accident with our two small kids. They kids love their small cheese pizzas and the grownups enjoyed theirs as well. Greet pizza, fast service, and friendly staff. We will definitely go back !!! Also great cappuccino

Yelp
The Pizza is Serious but fortunately for the Berliners & the tourists it is not Standard. If this was the standard, here in Berlin, we would be very happy. We visited the place on a Saturday evening & ordered their Margherita & Bianca - with eggplant, cherry tomatoes & pesto. Both Pizzas were step above anything we had so far in Berlin or in other Pizza places that we have visited in Germany. A great dough, great toppings out of good quality ingredients, very tasty pizza. We'll be back.

Yelp
Really tasty Napoli style pizza. Simple, delicious, with a thick proper dough. The place itself is clean, almost minimal hipster modern, with painted grey walls, wooden tables, a few very cool light fixtures and little more. Minus one star for feeling a little too spacious and modern for an Italian pizza joint. I will always prefer smaller, louder places, with the owner running between the kitchen and the tables. If that's more your style, read my review and go to A'Magica.

Yelp
Finally :) Found a real pizza in Berlin.. I was about to give up .. This pizza reminds me seriously the neapolitan style ones in Italy. With a high border and a flavor of fresh tomatoes and basil. The mozzarella on top is real Mozzarella, not a kind of strange mix of cheese. I've got a Margherita for tasting the basis and I felt like I was in a italian slowfood for a while The menu is stylish and include few choices of pizza, typical of very qualified pizzerias. The website is also cute The only bad thing is regarding only me, as close to our place a huge dog was sleeping under the table of a customer and since I am allergic, I've ended the evening with asthma The restaurant is well designed. The staff is very friendly and easygoing despite the crowding. The price is the price of a very well done pizza with Real ingredients, I've paid in a good mood, of course with tip :) Super recommended

Yelp
Pizza was amazing. Best I've had in Berlin. The service was attentive and strong. Sat outside on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. Everyone around me enjoyed their meal. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We've all grown up eating pizza, well most of us. But lord, you have to try the pizza here. This place is outstanding. The pizza dough is probably the best I've ever had and I've eaten pizza in many countries. I'm one of those who leaves my crusts, but at this place, oh no, its my favourite part. The wood oven makes for outstanding flavour and texture. The bases are chewy with crunchy air pockets. Toppings simple but super flavourful. Got to try this place!

Yelp
Very good pizza, very nice atmosphere, limited starters and desert but overall a very good experience

Yelp
Up to the standards of the best pizza in Cali. Hipster central in one of the hipster most cities in the world. On the outskirts of Berlin that looks a lot like a San Francisco neighborhood. It's like i never left Cali, in a good way.

Yelp
Plain and contemporary interior. Friendly staff and good service. Style of pizza nothing that blows your mind and therefore overpriced (average price 13€). Still looking for delicious pizza place in Berlin.

Yelp
Great Pizza and ingredients!! Brick oven. You will think you are in Italy!!! Also the service was excellent.

Yelp
This pizza is seriously awesome. Everything that makes up a pizza (okay I guess I'll list it, sorry) was perfection: the sauce was tangy and fresh, the dough perfection, and the cheese... heaven. Service was prompt and nice. Cute location on a square. It was a really hot night and apparently Berlin just doesn't do air conditioning. So it was hot inside that night. But c'est la pizza.

Yelp
This places kicks ass. Pizza had bakery quality dough and fresh ingredients, in line with the best pizza I've had from New York. But the real rock star was Miriam our waitress. She made the experience one of a kind! My girlfriend and I would come back just to hang with her. Five star service!

Yelp
Real Pizza in Berlin!!!! My friends from Naples, Italy told me that they found a pizza place that reminds them of home... They said that the owner(s) is(are) from Naples and they ship in ingredients every two days to make their pizza... So, I had to try it. I was not dissappointed. We had a pizza and a calzone, and both were excellent. I recommend that you do the same, especially if you have not had a calzone before!!! I am not having pizza anywhere else from now on, in Berlin. Enjoy, David

Yelp
Probably the best pizza in town..a bit expensive. Not accepting credit cards in 2016 is a no go!

Yelp
Not pretending to know Berlin's entire pizza scene but from what the reviews are saying, and my tastebuds and continuing quest for Neapolitan pizza every place I go, I've gotta say this is probably among the top spots. I came back to try the calzone and got exceedingly good service. The waiters were busy as f***, it being the first day of summer holiday for the trendy Prenzlauer Berg families, but I still got tended to very regularly even though I was seated at the farthest table outside (which was an awesome place to be on this cool summer evening). I had a few of the very tasty Spent Brewers Collective Red Oat Ale, a local brewer from Berlin's growing craft scene. It was a welcome change from the typical German beer, although I love that, too, and a few types of that are also available here. The atmosphere is just right, a tad upmarket because of its P-Berg location but inside is a cool space with two or three levels and great music was playing both times I went. The outside seating is really inviting, on the tree-lined, bicycle-laden corner of Zionkirchstraße and Templiner Straße. The beautiful urban design of the P-Berg locale is well matched by the pies being pumped out of the Standard's oven. If I get a chance, I will definitely return.

Yelp
We were seriously winning at finding delicious food during our weekend trip to Berlin. Standard has serious, legit Neapolitan pizza that tastes like it could've been shipped to us straight from of Napoli. The dough had the signuature chewiness, the crust bubbly with the familiar burned spots. I ordered the margharita and it was excelent. I washed it down with mango schorle. I seriously cannot wait for the next time we head to Berlin so we can get more of these serious pizza pies.
google avatar

Jody Z.

Yelp
Excellent pizza, fresh tasty ingredients and very good service. We sat outside because it was a very hot day but the interior looks spacious and funky. The nice selection of craft beers is a bonus.
google avatar

Annie V.

Yelp
Nearly-perfect pizza (thin crust, fresh toppings), easy to handle menu (around 8 choices of pizza) and fair prices. atmosphere is a little sterile so no place to hang out all night but lots of room, fast service and good looking waiters!! I'll be back
google avatar

PL W.

Yelp
Interior design was modern. Full of customers, that's a sign of good quality. I liked the taste of olive oil to add on the pizza. But I didn't like the dough being too burned. I scraped the black burned parts. Also, ordered Calzone pizza and asked for scharf, I think they didn't have spicy salami to put in. It tasted like they squeezed lots of chilly sauce in. It was flat spicy.... wasn't tasty when eating, and not good for the next morning. .. I recommend pizza at Vapiano and II Ritrovo-Cucina Casalinga Popolare instead

Benjamin M.

Yelp
refused to put garlic on a pizza although garlic is on others pizzas on the menu. suit yourself. really good pizza though.

Yelp
amazing pizza dont sleep on this place, nice staff as well

Yelp
I have had a lot of pizza in my life and I have never had a pizza as good as I have had here. Out of all places in Berlin to try, this is a must! Its light, yet filling, and exactly what all pizza should be- ill go as far to say it is the best pizza I have had in my entire life. Also, highly recommend the salad here to start! A must stop in Berlin!

Fernando V.

Yelp
Great place. Pizza is very fresh and tasty plus the owner is always in place, to make sure you feel at home, a must in Berlin.
