Highlights

Stangeland Vineyards & Winery has cultivated a reputation for complex wines crafted from our Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris grapes, and grapes sourced from other local vineyards grown to the same high standards that we keep. Our vineyard was founded by the Miller family in 1978, when we became one of the pioneering grape growers on the now renowned Eola-Amity Hills. Old-world, handcrafted methods reign supreme here, resulting in a wine that, through an unrelenting attention to detail, is more robust and is crafted to its full potential. Join us at the charming wooden bar in our tasting room to try our award-winning, distinguished wines in a laid back setting.

A Guide to the Best Wine Tastings in the Willamette Valley

"Stangeland is an old-school wine geek’s winery — off the beaten path, making really gorgeous Eola-Amity Hills cool-weather pinots. Stangeland started planting pinot in the late 1970s, which makes its vines some of the more mature in the Willamette Valley. Visit the mid-century tasting room filled with oak barrels, surrounded by a ring of trees and mountains. Monday to Wednesday is reservation only; otherwise, walk-ins are welcome from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday." - Zoe Baillargeon, Brooke Jackson-Glidden

We emailed and made an appointment for a weekday tasting. The owner Larry and the winemaker Robert were friendly and attentive. It is clear they have a passion for wine and the winemaking process. We learned about the effects of the 2020 fires on the wines and were able to taste a Pinot from that year for comparison with the years just before. We also got to taste the rose aged and bottled next to a pour fresh from the barrel for comparison. This was our most unique and personalized tasting experience. We were the only people at the winery so we were able to ask lots of questions and learned a lot. We enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered a case to be shipped to our house. If you're in the area, definitely send an email for a reservation to check this place out.

Awesome Memorial Day weekend deals! $10 for five glasses! It was so nice to sit and sip on a glass of wine and enjoy the view. I left with two bottles. I highly recommend this winery for tasting. The wine is excellent!

I really enjoyed their Eola-Amity Tempranillo sourced from Greenwood Vineyard about 2mi away. Also their Chardonnay is from plants brought to Oregon by David Lett in the late 70s. Barrel-fermented and kept in neutral oak sur-lie. Love it! Their Pinot Noir carried pedigree and taste akin to some of the finest villages or premier cru Red Burgundy.

First time experiencing a wine-tasting for me, and I'm glad my family found this place on our travels. The lovely gentleman who served us our tasting was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and the wines were delicious to sample. We left with half a dozen bottles of some of Stangeland's finest, and would be happy to return another time for more should the opportunity present itself.

Dowdy served us and he was wonderful. Larry’s the owner and needs to give him a raise. The wines are won’t!!! If your looking for a boutique place this is a must stop.

This has been my favorite winery in west Salem for years. They always offer a wonderful assortment of wines for every pallet. The owner, Larry, is always kind and welcoming. Each time I bring friends or family to try their wines, they go home with many bottles! I highly recommend trying out this hidden gem. You won’t be disappointed!

Yelp
I am new to the area and wanted to bring my mom who was visiting from California to somewhere relaxing where we could sip on wine and enjoy the peacefulness of the area and catch up. We fell in love with Stangeland Vineyards. They have a beautiful patio area that overlooks the vineyard where we were able to enjoy our wine. The gentleman working was friendly, brought out our bottle in ice while we settled in and answered all of our questions. We met the owner who was wonderful to chat with and his sweet dog. I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Lovely setting, extraordinarily knowledgeable host and thoughtfully crafted wines. We'll become club members!

Yelp
Although I am not a big wine drinker, I am fascinated by the whole science surrounding viticulture, the business of wine making, and the operation of vineyards and wineries. Our visit to Stangeland Vineyards and Winery was one of the nicest times I have had in a tasting room in a long time. The Staff and vineyard owner were friendly, welcoming, patient, informative and attentive (Thank You, Sierra!). The local wines were very good. The cost of the tastings was reasonable ... $10 per person for five, $15 per person for ten. I recommend taking the time to sit on the porch, relax, have a glass of wine, and admire the spectacular view of the Willamette Valley. Four Stars.

Yelp
I like small vineyards that don't worry about market tastes but follow their own paths. For example, while they do focus on some crowd pleasers, they also put together some juice with compelling barnyard funk and well constructed tannins. With the price of prime wine country land, it will only get harder for smaller estates to enter the fray and craft wines based on their ability, inclination and the weather. Stangeland creates interesting wines at a fair price and even wins some awards doing so. While I have little interest in that last point (I like what I like), it means some other people who like wine also find something of value in their labors. Wine is highly personal, but I hesitatingly recommend Stangeland--because who wants to ruin a good thing by letting the word get out? Well it's out now, so hurry over. Good stuff.

Yelp
Not only did we taste some fantastic Pinot Noirs here, we also were given a wonderful history lesson about the valley and about different wineries. The owner spent a good amount of time explaining how the different soils help give different flavors of wine because the grapes grow differently in the different areas. We were so impressed by the wine, that we joined the wine club

Yelp
Very friendly staff that have a vast tasting menu. Something for everyone, really. I hope to make it out to the grapes again soon.

Yelp
I happened upon this winery by chance and am quite glad I did! Out of the maybe 5-6 Oregon wineries I have been to, this one is my favorite. The man serving us (do you still call a wine server a sommolier if it isn't a restaurant? I have no idea) was personable and very knowledgeable. I liked everything we tasted, and this place made me appreciate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay more than I thought I could. The owner stopped by, chatted us up, and shared a really nice bottle with everyone in the tasting room. His laid back personality and the charm of his winery made me think that he had life figured out in a way that I don't. I will certainly go back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by here right as it was closing Friday and had a lovely tasting and conversation with the winery owner. The wines were great. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I visited Stangeland in Feb. 2011 and really enjoyed meeting Larry the owner/winemaker and tasting his wines! He spent so much time with us and let us taste some of his library wines which were fantastic. Stangeland has won numerous awards here and abroad and I highly recommend a stop. We are down to our last bottle that we brought back with us and will definitely be ordering more!

Yelp
So many wines, not one that tastes even half way drinkable. These wines are more unbalanced than our economy!!! They all have that bitter bell pepper nose, and they are either too high in acidity or have that high ETOH backlash on the palate. I don't think I would ever drink a bottle of any of these. I have to say I was quite disappointed.

Yelp
We were visiting from Seattle and a different winery in the area had recommended Stangeland. Quite frankly, I loved every red wine they were tasting (Pinots and Tempranillos). I am typically a Cabernet girl; I usually find pinots to be drinkable but they rarely blow me away. Stangeland changed my mind. The pinots here were complex and interesting-anything but subtle and boring. The man working the tasting room that day was knowledgeable about wine but not pretentious. Larry (the winemaker/owner) was there as well, and made some suggestions and opened up some wines from his library. This was the most welcoming tasting experience I have ever had, and the wine was really good! I highly recommend stopping here!

Yelp
Stangeland Vineyards is the hidden gem just North of West Salem. Owned by Larry and Ruth Miller are definitely the salt of the earth who happen to make great wines. Vertical tastings and terrior tastings are often included with the modest tasting fee. I would recommend getting of the beating path and give Stangeland a try. Prost!

Yelp
My wife, a couple friends, and I had a full day wine tastings adventure and Stangland was one of the 4 vineyards we went to. It is a blink and you might miss it place but if you do stop it is a great little place. Our tasting consisted of over ten wines with the whites outshining the reds by a small margin. I am not a wine aficionado but I know what I like and their 2012 Gewürztraminer was voted by far the best tasting wine of the day by all four of us novice wine tasters. It was also one of the least expensive bottles of wine we purchased. It is kind of funny to have several $40-50+ bottles of wine but be saving my $15 Gewürztraminer for the special occasions. Beyond the wine, the tasting room was very pleasant and the fella doing the pour (friend of the owner I believe) was quite the character and just completely solidified the experience for us. It is almost within spitting distance of Brooks winery which was also excellent so do yourself a favor and hit them both. You won't regret it.
