Stan’s Donuts just opened in Naperville on Saturday, and I went in on Monday excited to try them. That excitement quickly turned to disgust. There were flies walking all over the donuts in their display case. When I pointed it out, the employee said, “It’s just a display, not real donuts” — yet moments later, I saw her grabbing donuts from that same display to give to customers.
This is absolutely unsanitary and unacceptable, especially for a brand-new store. When I brought it up to the manager, she was dismissive, saying, “What am I supposed to do? The door is open.” She then suggested I point out which donuts the flies had landed on so she could pull them from the case. At that point, there were two flies hovering and crawling — they’ve likely been on all of them.
The attitude from management was just as bad as the hygiene issue. Brushing it off as “just a fly” ignores the fact that flies carry bacteria and disease. For a business that just opened in our community, this was deeply disappointing. I even took photos of flies sitting on their donuts — and frankly, it’s gross.
