Star BBQ is a solid spot for KBBQ in Ktown Garden Grove! First, free parking is a big win, and the restaurant itself has a nice entrance, is super clean, and has high ceilings, so you don’t feel cramped or suffocated like in some other KBBQ places. The food is well-seasoned, and the salad was good. Highly recommend the lemonade, it’s surprisingly good! The only downside was the corn cheese, which came out cold, and the cheese wasn’t melted anymore, which was a bit disappointing. There’s no reservation, so you just have to show up and wait in line, but the staff is friendly and keeps things moving. Definitely a great spot for group gatherings if you’re in K-town Garden Grove! Would come back for sure. 4.5 out of 5

Star BBQ is simply incredible! The service is super fast, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The meat quality is next-level—so tender and flavorful. You'd think it would be expensive, but the prices are totally affordable for what you get. I am beyond satisfied and highly recommend it

I came here with my son to celebrate my birthday. We were so satisfied with the service, we waited for a while. But definitely worth it! Specially the baby octopuses!! 🐙

At first upon entering the facility, no greeting or smiles, just a tablet to enter your name and phone # for the wait list. The cashier I see at the front may have not noticed me entering the info, even though i am the only person at the entrance, since I was asked directly, "have you signed in" in a stern voice with a slight anger to her face, no hi or welcome to star, maybe she has had a rough day? I said "yes", she replied, "what's your name, I don't see it, I told her my name and she said, "are you sure you signed in? I said again, "yes", I even went to look at the tablet and saw the name there. "Oh now I see it, it must be slow".... I didn't say anything, first time here and the impression is that the employees must not like their position, if so they shouldn't be the first person to greet guests that are observing as I. Her name was "Ann". Anyways, , we only waited 5 mins. A waiter escorted us to our table, we informed him it was our first time and he explained how their restaurant has a 3 order per at a time process. Of course you het your side dishes and instruments for cooking. Food was adequate, not too sugary or salty, just right, depending on your meats ordered. Service is great with the waiter, his mae was "Joseph". The yogurt was just two flavors but refreshing after all that meat you hust ate. I liked that they have large tables for plates and drink space, some places you have no room for any of your beverages. Overall, a good place for family to dine, not my favorite but good price for the two nemu options. Ours was $32/ person the other was $28/person. I would ONLY give it a 3 star due to first impression of the cashier, if she could be nicer and friendlier, I would give a 4. Best surprise that wasn't told was that if you pay cash, it's 10% off your total check/bill, this I liked but they should inform the patrons .

Honest review (4/19/23) forgot to post haha was sitting in my drafts **put your name on the yelp waitlist in the front (doesn't work on the app) & pay in cash for 10% off entire order and a free beverage Soft service ice cream the strawberry taste like gogurt :) I may be pretty picky, but yeah. I would say that the quality does not match the price; however, it is an AYCE kbbq restaurant so yeah. We waited about 30-40 mins before we got seated after putting our names on the yelp waitlist. (You have to go in person) I have mixed feelings about the grill, but overall it was good. If I had to pick I would recommend the brisket, tongue (only some parts were decent), marinated beef rib, and boneless beef short rib. They weren't amazing, but it was better than I thought. I would not recommend the bottom sirloin cause it did not taste like kkotsal and small intestines. The banchans were mehh. I only liked the radish and salad. We tried the soybean soup and the soondubu which were decent and complimented the meats which I would recommend. They have a good amount of space inside and the grill is scraped when it gets too burnt so ask a server to clean it for you :)) There is also a restroom near the entrance. Taste 6/10 Visual 7/10 Texture 7/10 Service 8.5/10 I, personally, don't know if I would come back cause it's not worth it for me. But yeah I usually prefer by the portion places :)

⭐ (1 star) Absolutely outrageous experience at Star BBQ! I’m beyond furious—they had the audacity to slap a 101% tip on my bill without my consent! This is straight-up theft and completely illegal! The sheer nerve of this place to think they can scam customers like this is infuriating. The food and service were already mediocre, but this unethical stunt ruined everything. Save your money and steer clear of this dishonest establishment until they stop ripping people off! Check your bill twice if you dare dine here!

Two of us spent $70 something here. No drinking. Big portion food. Need to tell them half order or one order total. Otherwise they bring each person one order. Overall pretty good. Shrimp is good.

Not the same kbbq I remember. We ordered the beef belly plate and it arrived looking like mostly fat. After cooking that plate it turned out to be 100% fat and no meat - I gave the whole plate back to the server who agreed and took it back. Meat quality is not good. There are better options for affordable kbbq than Star BBQ.

This is for the late KBBQ eaters, their yelp hours say they close at 1am but they do last call at 11:30pm which doesn't make any sense to me. If they close at 1am then last call should be at least 12am... gives you one hour to close the restaurant. So lame Don't get me wrong, I love this place when I get a chance to eat here but I hate the fact that they don't honor their store closing hours. Why close at 1am if you end last call at 11:30pm.

I don't think I would come back here when Red Castle is literally right next to it, as I found no appeal in what Star had to offer. The meats were generic and lacked unique flavor, and some of the cuts even came out frozen which was off putting. It was very loud and crowded inside as well. The service was average, not bad but not above and beyond either. They didn't really check on us and we had to call them over to make any additional orders. At the end when we got ice cream/frozen yogurt, it was alright but really didn't taste that great and left a weird feeling in the back of my throat.

First time here. Usually we are at Shik Do but they have changed a lot since the renovation. So we are expanding our area and decided to give this place a shot. We are happy we did. Quickly seated for an afternoon table. The servers were quick, polite and very attentive. Nice space between tables allowed us to enjoy our meal casually and comfortably. It was open and airy but not too loud as it got crowded. Food selection was nice based on the price we paid. We definitely are happy with our choice and excited to return.

I drove down from LA to run a couple errands and was craving some KBBQ. A friend recommended that I go to Star BBQ so I hopped on the waitlist and waited over 30min--all just for them to tell me later that I can't eat because I came alone. I'm sure it would've been good, but I wish they had made that disclaimer clearer for people joining the waitlist online.

I love this place the meat is very tasty! The servers were all super nice and attentive. I went here with my Filipino family last week and my parents loved the brisket. My favorite meat was the pork belly and corn cheese! Plenty of side dishes, including rice paper, radish paper, kimchi, potato salad, cucumbers and so much more! Would recommend eating here again!

Had a good experience with a small group of friends here for dinner! There's definitely a wait after 7-8 ish, but it wasn't too bad. There was a call for service button at our table, and all the side dishes were set up on our table when we sit down. I also love that they offer a jug of water. We ordered the menu A and there was a good amount of meat options. Our brisket was more fatty than expected but the meats were good. They also had a yogurt self serve machine and toppings bar which was very interesting and clean restrooms. My only con was the oil got on our plates and everywhere on the table. It was great to cook our meats on the grill with the strong flame but it seemed after left the restaurant, we still had a strong kbbq smell! So if there was more air ventilation inside would be great.

Frozen yogurt for the win! They have free frozen yogurt for you while you wait and after your dinner complete with different toppings! Combo B is okay for me since I don't usually eat other things besides the typical brisket, pork belly and beef belly. Staff were attentive and I like how they clean their grills. Very efficient and fast. Their sides could improve more but it is enough. You'll have to ask for kimchi, garlic and jalapeño separately. Lots of parking in the area and there's a happy lemon boba tea place nearby. They also have a buy one get one for a penny drink which is very good!

Overall would rate it a 3.5/5! I opted for menu A because I think it's more worth. PRO TIP: Pay with cash to get 10% off and a free soda!!! Starting off with the banchan, they were pretty underwhelming. It just didn't taste as good compared to other places.The beef loin New York steak and the bones less short rib which are the limited quantity, were very tender but needed seasoning to enhance the flavor. Even though it says limited quantity, they come out in big portions so that was nice. All the other meats such as the pork belly, pork jowl, and beef belly were good too. However the beef tongue and the beef belly came out frozen so we had to let it sit for a while. Service was very good, they constantly checked up on us and cleaned our grill without us asking. There were plenty of tables inside and when I left, I didn't smell like kbbq YAYY. I left the place eating their yogurt and it was pretty good! The pineapple yogurt was tart and very addicting. Overall would come back if I am feeling a bang for your buck kbbq!

Second time at this place but this time the food stood out. It was rich in flavor from the bulgogi to the brisket the flavor was amazing. The short ribs were delicious. This quickly became my first choice KBBQ place. The vibe of this establishment is pretty nice and modern. Charlie was our server asked what our favorite meats were and would ask if we wanted more of those meats. She no once met my drink get to half way. I will definitely be coming back here again.

I was really looking forward to trying Star BBQ in Garden Grove, but overall, the experience was disappointing. The service was quite slow we waited a long time for both the initial order and refills, which made the meal feel dragged out. When the food did arrive, the quality of the meat just wasn't there. It didn't taste fresh, and the cuts were tough and lacked flavor, which is especially important at a Korean BBQ spot. The side dishes were only okay at best. They didn't taste very fresh, and there wasn't much variety compared to other Korean BBQ places in the area. On top of that, the atmosphere made things worse the restaurant was super loud, to the point where it was hard to carry on a conversation at the table. With so many great Korean BBQ spots around Orange County, I'd say there are much better options nearby. Unfortunately, Star BBQ didn't live up to expectations.

The variety of sides was impressive, and as expected, the meat just kept coming--fresh, and well cut. All in all, it was a solid Korean BBQ experience that hit the spot.

This place is awesome! My coworkers and I would come here altogether after finishing up work around 7:30pm. We always have a great time eating and talking about random stuff while grilling the meat. Our go-to 3 top meats are brisket, beef tongue, and pork belly. The service can sometimes be slow or fast depending on which server you get. I never once had any problems with this place because the meat here are high-quality and a good hangout place to have conversations with friends or family while cooking up the food. We will be back soon!

Arrived at 5pm when they eat and honestly probably the best time to go! Waiters were nice and quick to come out with the meats. The portions are a decent size so careful with that as they charge for leftovers like any other places. Nice to see they have a 10% discount and free sodas if you pay in cash. Dessert was a frozen yogurt machine with pineapple and vanilla flavors (unfortunately didn't try it).

Went here with a group of 7 friends, it was pretty cool. The outside was nice and cool for pictures (bonus) Lots of meat selections, the staff was very patient and attentive, explaining all the meat types and checking in. The interior and table set up feels very spacious and nice, I would definitely recommend for group hangouts (small/large) I would choose this place over super noisy and crowded ones like Gen! The free frozen yogurt is definitely a plus.

I've been a huge STAR BBQ fan for many years now. They offer Menu A for $31.99 and Menu B for $27.99, with an additional 10% off and a free soda if you pay with cash. I usually stick to the brisket, beef belly, beef tongue, and beef short rib. I absolutely love their soybean soup and all their banchan, especially the radish paper. The sauces pair perfectly with the meal. The service is friendly and attentive--they even clean the grill without being asked. What ended the meal perfectly was the pineapple yogurt soft serve/ice cream. Since we like the standard meats for KBBQ, STAR BBQ is the perfect place for us.

Open late on weekends that what we like since we get off work late on Friday night. Food is variety options also delicious and reasonable price. Big area and clean. Keep it in mind if you pay CASH you'll get 10% off and free soda. That's a good deal. Ohhh and don't forget to have pineapple soft serve before you leave.

Been to this place many times and it always hits the spot. Even though their prices are super affordable, the quality of the meat is still great. One of the only places you can still get beef tongue for a decent price. Their garlic pork belly and marinated short ribs are great too. Love their bean sprouts and cucumber sides, and the steamed egg is delicious and fluffy! I think they changed their salad and it isn't my favorite but who goes to kbbq to eat salad anyways. Make sure to round out your meal with their free ice cream. Their yogurt and pineapple yogurt flavors ARE SO GOODDD please keep these flavors forever (tastes like dole whip and yakult). Service is always great, we never have to ask for them to clean the grill they always come around right when it's needed. Make sure to bring cash for 10% off and free drinks!

Amazing service and food. I enjoyed their sides and meats. We also enjoyed their flat griddle which was in my opinion a better way of crisping the brisket and sliced pork belly and intestine. The beers and soju were a good choice when you buy one, you get the other one for 1cent. Plus 10% off the bill and a free soda when you pay with cash! We will be coming back. FYI. There is a long wait when you get there around 7pm to like 8pm on a Saturday. Thank you Stat BBQ for an amazing meal.

This is one of my favorite KBBQ restaurants to go to because of the quality of the meat, price points, and the location. I typically order several types of items including the galbi, bulgogi, beef belly, steak, shrimp, and tofu soup. For some reason, the initial orders of the meat are usually good and then progressively become much more fatty (especially the beef belly). Tofu soup may look red, but it isn't really spicy at all. This can be off putting for some people. They used to make fried rice, but they haven't done it for a while now. They have various sides available, make sure to request for radish paper if you like that since they do not give it by default sometimes. They have 2 menu options, so make sure to review which one is worth getting. Service is hit or miss, whether the place is busy or not. There have been instances in which I had to press the ringer several items before someone comes to the table. Sometimes the staff will forget to bring a water refill or a requested side item. The interior of the place is clean for the most part. I do like how they are constantly playing KPOP in the background. You can join the waitlist via Yelp ahead of time which is convenient as this place tends to be busy in the evenings, especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

I haven't been here in a very long time. It's still as busy as I remembered it but luckily we came early for a weeknight dinner (around 6 pm) so there was no wait. That changed 30 minutes later when suddenly more people came. For the price, the meat quality is just ok. There are other KBBQ places that offer better cuts of meat for around the same price. A very popular and great KBBQ AYCE that's been around forever. They have great selection of some tasty and quality meats. The biggest downside? A weekend dinner for a party of 4 might have you wait an hour or more. We tried a ton of different types as you should, but ended up sticking to mostly the brisket and tongue. my friends and i decided to get some kbbq on a sunday so there was a little bit of a wait but it wasn't too bad, i'd say maybe 10-15 mins. Our server was a bit silly, he could never really hear me since i was sitting in the corner but speaking louder didn't help either so sometimes it got awkward but over all the meat quality was good and so was the corn cheese and ice cream bar after.

5 Stars for Star KBBQ!!! I've been coming to Star for many years now and will happily drive the 45 l.a. mins. Have been all over LA for KBBQ and this place is always consistent. I usually come with a large group close to opening time on the weekend. The quality and amount of food is pretty decent for the AYCE option. The staff is always super friendly and attentive. We love Star KBBQ!!

Been visiting Star BBQ with friends more frequently recently and surprised at how much I enjoy dining here. But here are my key takeaways: 1. The AC in the summer is almost non existent. So imagine meat sweats on top of summer sweats. 2. Not all meats have decent quality and not all times were stellar. Some visits the brisket was fattier than the belly. 3. Banchan is limited. Servers spend a lot of time conversing amongst each other than taking orders. Some rounds were inconsistent; we would wait 1 min for our order or 15 mins. There really wasn't a system in place. Flagging servers down was difficult, even with a table call button. This place is truly a 3.5, but I'll round up to a 4. Parking: ample but tight, like door ding tight Ambiance: loud with kpop blasting on the TVs Food: decent, better than other kbbq in the area but not better than Grams Yelp waitlist is a nice touch, and they do take large party reservations!

I've been here for my birthday with some friends and an acquaintance and we've really enjoyed our time here. It was probably the birthday excitement, but it was a great time. The interior was very nice and had a "cozy" feeling to it (lol), and the meats were very good. We couldn't stop ordering more. The service we received was also great. We understood and saw how busy the place was, so we tried not to ask for too much, but some of us couldn't help it. Despite that, he was very kind, and we are very grateful and appreciative of what he's done for us. I hope to come back here again if I ever visit the area again.

a go-to for korean bbq! they have the best beef brisket and 10% off your bill + a soft drink if you pay in cash. for the price, Star is the best value and taste. with the cheaper menu, you get everything you need! the service is always attentive and fast, i've never complained about the service. they play kpop inside so it's a fun atmosphere. i love the soft serve machine as well. they mix up the flavors, and it's always nice to get a sweet treat after kbbq. will come again for my next kbbq craving!

Star BBQ is located in a plaza with plenty of available parking. We went for dinner and were immediately seated. The inside seating area is nicely spaced out and had good vibes with K-pop music playing in the background. The restaurant offers two menu options and both offer a good variety of meat. They also provide a nice variety of sides with generous portions. The service was outstanding, the staff were very attentive and quick with picking up the used dishes and putting in new orders. For dessert, there is an ice cream machine with two flavors and was a nice way to end the meal! If you would like to save some money on your bill, it is advised to pay in cash. The restaurant advertises that by paying cash, you will get 10% off and a free soft drink.

Worst experience ever. We were told we were next in line for wait list for over an hour. Then they told us 10 min, then 5 then they were waiting for a family to pay their check. Then after another 20 min of waiting we went to go ask again how long and they said they there was another party ahead of us. If we would have never asked, they would have never told us. After an hour and a half of them telling us we were next in line we finally decided to leave. I've never been a person to complain but this was so disappointing. Worse than 1 star.

Grillin' and Grubbin' We've visited Star BbQ plenty of times and will continue to come back! Everything is delicious here and well worth the price. This most recent time we came on a Sunday, right as it opened about 4:15p we got the lower-priced menu, which has about 7 less options, but still plenty available to fill up on. First off, every table starts off with mini-plates of potato salad, spicy cucumbers, a salad, sprouts, and rice paper and sauces for dipping. As for the meats, try em all!! We love the brisket and the bulgogi. We also found out on this visit that you can request smaller tasting portions if you want to sample something new to you. Our server let us know of that, and let us try a new release sauce that may become a regular item. So tasty. Greets vibes, everyone grilling and enjoying tasty bites. After several rounds of food, grab a soft serve on the way out, you've completed a great night. Can't wait for our next visit here

Great service, meats came out so quickly. Our plates were cleared before I could even set down an empty plate! Sunday at 5pm was no wait, tables starting filling up quickly after. Soft serve included, strawberry and caramel flavors. Ambiance: loud and lively, hard to hear across the table. I like how the tables are divided up, there's a wall between some tables that really offers privacy. Tip: pay cash and receive 10% off and free sodas.

It's been about 7 years since I've been here and I was looking forward to the kimchi fried rice (which is not on the menu) but it is cooked directly on your grill! I must say it was worth it!! Our table chose menu A which was $31, our favorite cuts were thinly sliced pork belly, short rib, and bulgogi. Staff was very attentive - we showed up right as they opened and man did it fill up quickly, by the time we were done there was a line around the building! They also offer free ice cream after your meal - but unfortunately the machine was broken at the time we went. Most places switch out grills and I love that this place doesn't they scrape it clean which means your grill is still nice and hot - ready for whatever is next! Also if you pay cash you get 10% off and a drink is included, don't worry If you don't have cash they have an ATM there!

I love this AYCE bbq place because the meat is good and they give good portions. Service is awesome too, we were pretty crazy and loud and they tolerated us. But ya I love going here and they have really good steamed egg and side dishes. This place is always crowded so come early! Also if you have a big group everyone has to be present before you get seated.

Recently went here in search for good affordable AYCE kbbq and it was nice! We got there for dinner and it was decently busy with a good amount of waiting. The meats were great - loved the beef tongue! Of course ordered cheese corn and many refills of rice wraps and kimchi. I thought it was cool how the grill is tilted down to clear up the juices and oils. They have a frozen yogurt machine with a toppings bar which was alright but refreshing for sure. The lights are dimmed down and it was cozy but definitely loud. Definitely going to come back if I'm in the area again!

I go here about once every other month. Service is always great and I like that you get a discount plus free soft drink if you pay with cash. For some reason today all the meats were super oily. I was literally spitting out oil with every bite and couldn't enjoy the meal. Usually the meats are not that oily.

Star BBQ was such a treat! Everything about this place was great & we loved that it was a stand alone restaurant- not connected to any of the other stores in the area. They really made BBQ the Star of the show ;) The place was super clean and easy to find. Lots of parking and the building has great character. Weird flex, but just go with it! Our waiters were very attentive and patient with us. Brought us more sides without us asking which is always appreciated. Everything was great- food was legit! We went with the $27.99 price tag which was Menu B & was sooo full off of it. Great choice if you're looking for just simple cuts of meat. They did also offer a few seafood dishes that I heard were really good too. Head's up: you get 10% off entire check and a free soda if you pay with cash! Been coming here for years. This place is a family staple for AYCE Korean BBQ. Any night will most likely result in a wait due to how popular this place is. Usual wait for us is 35-45mins; sometimes an hour. Great Banchan options and great meat quality. Menu choices are numerous and you'll get full quickly with all the variety. Dessert will be the classic soft serve ice cream that you can hit up before or after your meal. Love this place!

Forever my favorite kbbq place with such great service. The meat is just top quality and for the price you get for AYCE is definitely worth. The staff is very attentive and the service is great, they'll come clean your grill when they see it's super dirty. You also get 10% off your entire bill when you pay cash on top if getting a free soda! I have not seen any other kbbq places do this and this place will always be my first choice.
