Dancers Strike Over Poor Working Conditions at Popular LA Strip Club Dive Bar - Eater LA

"A months-long protest is underway at Star Garden Topless Dive Bar, one of the Valley’s oldest 21+ venues. Current and former dancers as well as their supporters are picketing the North Hollywood business, alleging that owners and security staff have fostered an environment of harassment and been lax regarding worker safety and cleanliness. The walkout is ongoing, even as Star Gardens remains open for business." - Mona Holmes

The dancers here were rude! If your a new dancer here good luck! Dancers act like they own the place and you make nothing! Everything else was fine back in 2015! Females are dramatic, getting all mad at you for “taking there drinks”. Honey,I can buy my own! Glad this place has low ratings that’s what it deserves! Just checking! Ghetto and run down like the dancers! Didn’t waste time on this place, my hot self walked out and never went back!

Google
DO NOT CROSS THE PICKET LINE!! The dancers are wonderful, charismatic women, but aren’t being treated well by their management. Please do not visit this establishment until the workers rights and safety are respected. - Selena was fired for intervening when a customer filmed a dancer without consent. - Reagan was fired for asking that customers not be allowed to linger after closing, as it compromises dancers safety. - Many other dancers were LOCKED OUT for presenting a petition asking management for a safer environment that follows worker safety laws. Here were the demands that caused management to lock them out and refuse to speak with them: - Reinstate Selena and Reagan - Affirm that they won’t be fired for standing up for themselves, calling on security, and bringing issues to managements attention - Enforce a no filming or photographing policy - Enforce that no customers may remain after hours unless actively getting a lap dance - Stop over serving alcohol (cut customers off) - Issue the dancers signed copies of their contracts and a handbook with the clubs rules - Let security come to dancers’ aid and/or remove dangerous clients immediately instead of having to wait for managements approval These demands aren’t at all unreasonable and show that management has not only been disrespectful, but UNLAWFUL. Please show your support to the dancers! Everyone deserves a safe work environment.

Google
Don’t support this business, because they have shown complete disregard for employee safety. Policies upheld by management put even the security team at risk of assault. How are they supposed to do their jobs? How are the entertainers supposed to feel safe and have a happy and fulfilling life ? Everyone deserves safe working conditions. These hard working individuals are only asking for some basic human decency. It’s time to face the music, management. Acknowledge the demands.

Levi

Google
This business / the management does not care about protecting the dancers that work there! They have been illegally operating by not providing contracts to employees, dismissing and neglecting inappropriate and unsafe behavior from customers directed at dancers, and by unjustly firing dancers that vocalize safety concerns, amongst many other things! If you care about women’s safety and well-being, please don’t cross the picket line to patronize this horrible and exploitative establishment!!

Michael Avolio

Google
As of March 2022, Star Garden has such major safety issues that over a dozen of the dancers employed there are on strike. The strippers gave management a petition asking for basic safety precautions, and as a result management is locking them out and refusing to talk to them. Management is even spreading lies about the protest and getting truthful reviews deleted. They won't allow security to do their jobs, so it's an unsafe place for dancers and customers alike. Stay away from Star Garden until Jenny and Steve fix these issues - don't cross the picket line. There are better managed, safer venues.

Katie61422

Google
The dancers here are currently on strike because this club doesn’t offer them any protection. Don’t go here until they make the changes these dancers are demanding, basic safe working environments.. These women deserve to work in a club where they are treated like human beings. Do better!!!!!!!!

Randie taylor

Google
DO NOT SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE! Dancers were great and this place was wonderful way back when Hans was the owner. They treat their dancers like animals! They are hard working people. They should not have to feel unsafe.

Charlie Cobb

Google
The dancers are fantastic and are striking to ensure safe working conditions!! Management will not hear them out on their concerns for safety and well being in the bar. Would give 0 stars if I could. Don’t cross the picket.

Yelp
Equity actresses helped to close it down, unionize, for what? I worked as a dancer, ("dancers", are they called dancers, was I a dancer, was I a ballerina, did I tap dance, are you a tap dancer? Gene Kelly was a dancer, Channing Tatum's a dancer, if you're a stripper you're not a dancer, if you u walk around a stage and take your clothes off as part of your show, you're called a stripper, I was a STRIPPER, not a dancer, oh great the word "dancer" is right there in black and white in forms you're given to sign at strip clubs allowing you to "dance" on their stages as independent contractors, so I'm wrong ), for ten years or so, if it was that bad, what did they expect? Two days ago I go to DejaVu and asked if I could work, he says I have to come back and audition, you don't have to audition, you euther look good or you don't , right? So I come back and go on stage and although they told me just before going in their stage that I would have to take EVERYTHING off up there, I didn't 'cause I didn't feel like it, and I didn't have to take anything off , so there. Except my black thong, to toon that off, then I swayef from side to side then gripped the pole and swing around the pole then three minutes later it's over, I walk off the stage and a younger, maybe she was nineteen, girl with huge fake eyelashes says I didn't look comfortable up there, then says it again, I don't remember what I said, the. She tells me I'm not what they're looking for, which seemed to surprise the manager. So I can't prance around stage there, it's a nude club, at nude clubs costumers, unless the dance is given in the open, break rules that could close s club down and you don't say anything,, you let them cause you need to make money and that's how that is. It could likely be the same everywhere. Type Century 21 into your search bar, click on website link, find, "contact us" click on it, fill out their contact page with your info and in the notes tell thrm you want to sell houses. You don't need a license, you won't get paid until you sell a house, but when you get paid, if the house sold for 500,000, you would get paid $25,000.00, then sell another house, you get paid again that much or more, depending. In the meantime go 6th Street and Wall, listen for someone saying, "food stamp, food stamp", and talk to the man you hear saying it. Or talk to anyone who owns their own business, a successful one, and ask him how he made the money to start his successful business. You need around $2,000,000 to open a bar, if that tells you anything. Good luck, I'm right there with you

Yelp
I came out here on a Friday at 9:30. The doors were closed and no one was opening the door. Hello????????. I guess they were closed.

Yelp
Do not go here !!!!!!!!!!! I used to go to star garden with the boys to grab some beers for certain occasions at star garden for the last 5-6 years. Hans used to be the owner, he was great. I work I TV production and even used star garden as a shoot location and it worked out great with Hans. Not any more ! I went there last night around 10pm and walked in past Secuirty and saw 2 people at bar and some guy behind the bar. I said hey how's it going... are girls still dancing here ? He said no, no girls dance here. I asked what happened ? He then started screening at me and called me a fake customer and literally said F**K YOU! Your a fake customer f**k you get out. Me being the fake customer with 2 friends and a couple hundred in my pocket to spend for the night said f u you back to the man behind the bar I'm never coming back here again I'll gladly leave. I'm assuming the guy behind the bar was the owner and he should never talk to anyone like that never the less a customer coming in to spend money at your business. Just want to let people know to not go to star garden. Terrible ownership that has now just become a shady scummy bar in a bad area of town . Do not go here.

Yelp
The dancers are amazing, beautiful badasses who deserve all of the support in the world. Talented performers who put on a super-fun show, upbeat and funny, and really awesome to hang with in the club. They recently unionized and I am in awe of their labor campaign! The club is a damn mess: - Enormous cover charge. 40 dollars plus some processing fee. - Credit card only for the cover charge and the bar. - No ATM. (I knew this in advance and came prepared with my singles; the dancers were also ready to make change so don't let this deter you. But they shouldn't have to!) - Obscenely overpriced drinks. I'm used to drinking at bars in both LA and NY. I know that drinks get pricey. These prices are BEYOND. - My first drink was a very watered down tequila. (And there is a one drink minimum.) When I walked in I was immediately told I had a drink minimum but also... there was no bartender in sight. When I asked where the bartender was, I was told gruffly, "on a break." I definitely support breaks, but I was concerned that there was only one bartender on a Friday night. Of course, I learned too late that the bartender is part of management. This felt less like a good labor practice to give breaks and more like another tactic management was using to try to drive patrons out of the club by making it hard for them to even get a drink. - Lots of new and bizarre rules that management is using to stifle the women's ability to put on their performances. There's a line of tape on the stage blocking off a very tiny space they have to stay inside of. Part of that supposedly pertains to a law about how close they can be to the patrons while topless, but they aren't topless the entire time, and still they have to stay within this prohibitively tiny space on the stage. Management won't let them touch their own bodies on stage. They aren't doing lap dances right now because management has decided that they will pocket the entirety of the first 5 lap dances each of them does, so the dancers have decided not to do any -- which, more power to them! But also sucks for them because they can't make money this way, and also, patrons want lap dances. So what's the end goal here, management? Punish the strippers for unionizing? Make the club fail? Force them to cave during contract negotiations? Generally just wake up every day with hate in your heart and be like, yeah, that's a good way to live? It is such obvious retaliation. Back to the dancers: Seriously, they were great. I think it would be easy to write my review off as "oh, she just went in to support the union" and first off, damn right I went in to support the union! But also, the dancers are phenomenal and they were amazing to watch. They're really hot and they're really talented. So yes, I rated this 5 stars because of the dancers. But Management gets zero stars. They are terrible.

Mano A.

Yelp
The owners are scam Aritsts. They charge $40 for entrance and didn't tell the truth that there's a required drink. I support the union. I support the union of dancers.

Timothy K.

Yelp
This used to be Ok until the strike there is an old adage that only businesses that deserve a union get a union that clearly true here

Andrew M.

Yelp
I was excited to support the Union of dancers here. The cover charge was $40. Once inside they then said there was a mandatory 2 drink minimum. A drink was $20-$30. We asked for our money back. While a very nice dancer explained that the Union struggle they are in is suffering, and the house continues to take all their $, the house bouncers rudely refused our request. The doorman was sexist to my girlfriend as well. We came excited to support to women dancers financially, and their Union, and got ripped off by the house and sadly will never come back. Fuck this place. Hopefully they figure it out.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
$40 cover charge is insane! Are you kidding me? Club owner increased the cover from "always free" to $40 because the dancers unionize and demanded to be paid minimum wage for the use of their bodies. 5/5 for dancers, 0/5 for the club owner.

Amira P.

Yelp
Love the ladies!! The owner and staff suck. But these ladies will make sure you have a great time despite the owners bullshit rules. CHARM IS IT! CHARM is a sexy dancer and she will make your night awesome. Support these ladies!
google avatar

Christoff Y.

Yelp
I'd give it a five star cause its a titty bar, girls were alright. (Only 4 present) I paid for a lapdance from luna and it was probably the weakest one I ever had. I think if I come back I'll just throw bills at the girls on stage if everyone dances privately like Luna.
google avatar

Ike I.

Yelp
Parking can be difficult to find due to it being located in a busy area with a lot of other businesses nearby, admission was $5 during the day but I believe it goes up to $10 in the late hours, the dancers were beautiful and diverse ranging from 6 to 10 even the waitresses were looking so beautiful, lap dances are $20 per song and the quality depends on the dancer, overall this place is actually a nice chill laid back type of environment.

Beto S.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to check out and support the dancers who unionized. Got there and after paying a hefty cover fee, there was literally no one in sight other than the bartender, who seems to be part of management. I made a joke to my wife (is the seat next to you taken?), and the bartender immediately said "are you drunk?" "No just making a joke to--" "he's drunk, get him outta here" Never been kicked out of anywhere before. Clearly, based on this and other reviews, they're trying to sabotage the dancers. Feel bad for them. If there's any way to support them, I would love to know.

Ale M.

Yelp
Came here for a 30th birthday! Super fun, bring cash!! Credit card fee is a little rough. But it was our first time. You won't see your typical alcohol here but order draft hella cold super good.
google avatar

Armen L.

Yelp
This spot is the ish.. beautiful women all around you, from all walks of life. Staff is super friendly, super welcoming.. sick music.. my date really enjoyed me bringing her here in for a quick drink.. to start the night off
google avatar

Leonardo H.

Yelp
I love coming to this place. A lot has changed since new management took over, and it's wayyyy better than how it used to be. Girls are always very friendly, fun, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Drinks are priced very well and they have all the selections you want. Music is great and plenty of parking. Free to get in. Always a blast coming to this hidden gem in the valley.
google avatar

Kelsie H.

Yelp
Such a fun place! My boyfriend and I came here a few weeks ago and it was such a vibe! We got a lap dance from duchess who was so cute! All the dancers were fun to watch and we had a great time. They don't sell liquor which is disappointing. Maybe bring your own before going in. Lol

Mia M.

Yelp
So dirty. Been to most clubs in noho and this has got to be the nastiest and security was so rude
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
A nice little hole-in-the-wall strip club that serves beer, bartender and DJ are cool asf.
google avatar

Gabriela T.

Yelp
I love that place I everybody is super nice vibe is amazing girls area sweet and beautiful it's my number one place to go to for a beer and to relax it's great I also wouldn't mind working there it's the only place in Los Angeles I'd work at I used to work there years ago and it was amazing. The club never looked better I didn't want to leave.
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Great vibe, friendly people. Lap dances $30 a little expensive for what they are, should be $20. Other than that pretty girls great experience.

Yelp
Okay, first off, there is absolutely no way in hell that I am going to be able to beat Richard C's review on this place, so I'm not even going to try. Guess it's the curse of us Valley kids, totally scooped once again!! Anyway, my boy RC totally nailed it and having been a patron of this "sh*thole" for many moons now, I can tell you first hand that, yeah, you will be hard pressed to find a seedier place with such a cool atmosphere. You'd be surprised how hard that combo is to attain. My favorite memory of this joint: Slayer Girl *sigh* My friend Merk and I used to come here back when I was a total Tomboy and practically lived in overalls and combat boots or slip dresses and combat boots. I had purple hair, was in the music industry and practically lived at titty bars. Yeah, I said it! And this was one of my faves! Why? Because this was where we used to come to see this rockin rad chick who would bust it out to Slayer and did it with authority. Complete with ripped up Slayer shirt and big hair, man, she was awesome and my friend was in love. We'd be driving around town and all any of us would have to say is, "Slayer Girl" and he'd turn into a misty eyed fool. It. Was. Awesome. Sadly she doesn't work there anymore and who knows where she ended up. Maybe she fell in love with a Vato named *Skeptik* or *Baby Joker* or *CrazyFace* at this club and ran off with him to a low rider land of Dickies and wife beaters (the shirts, people!) Or maybe she joined the actual circus, who knows, all I know is, she made me a fan of Star Garden and if you are looking for a cheap beer and some no 'tude tah tah action, then this is a great bet. Also as a bit of trivia, this is where they filmed Dancing At The Blue Iguana...by far Darryl Hannah's worst role to date, but it had some good stripper scenes in it. :)
google avatar

Dwayne B.

Yelp
Small parking lot. Sticky floors and a $5 cover for 2 older gals that could've passed as my mother's friends. Mostly older male crowd. Nothing exciting at all.
google avatar

Leah H.

Yelp
Husband and I were there on July 4th, so I'm not sure if my review even counts. Olive the bartender is a total sweetheart, dancers were awesome and we'd definitely come back!! Pool table is $2 per play. Fun time!!
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
As we arrived in the Los Angeles area, slightly buzzed from bourbon and coke, we decided that the only logical thing to do was drink more and look at some titties. Star Garden certainly did not disappoint. We had $3 happy hour drafts, shot some pool for a buck a game, and saw about 9 girls shake their groove thangs -- all at 2:30 in the afternoon. Decent, older / grown up Cholo crowd, no cover, and no hard sell for lap dances. It reminded me of Jumbo's of yesteryear, but leaning slightly more towards the classy / chain strip clubs (in a good way). Nice mix of ethnicities for the dancers, too. I'd come back -- with a stack of singles.
google avatar

Bobby C.

Yelp
This is a great little nudy bar in the heart of the Valley. There is usually no cover and you can get a $3 domestic brew--no hard liquor but that allows for the boobies to be shown--so don't bitch too bad. They have a couple really talented (and tattooed) dancers which include the world famous Sin Fisted--she's a contortionist! In case you're one of the creepers, this isn't a bar you can put dollar bills in your mouth have it plucked out by a set of cans. The rules and girls here are strictly enforced. A lot of pretty girls and a friendly staff but to be honest there were a couple dancers I could have done without. THEY ALSO HAVE A HALF DOZEN SMALL TV'S TO WATCH SPORTS--THAT'S HUGE.
google avatar

Chong L.

Yelp
I used to be a regular but this place has gone downhill. The girls have downgraded greatly and I never used to get harassed with getting a drink (which I've bought a ton of in the past here...but I'm trying to give up booze), but was threatened by uncool bartender that I could only stay if I bought a drink. The only reason to come here are the girls and to be comfortable and enjoy. If that's not fulfilled, there's no reason to come. I don't come here for the rough venue.... There is plenty of competition.
google avatar

Foodie B.

Yelp
This place is so positive. Women and couples aloud. Mona is Soo talented! I just wish they served hard liquor though.
google avatar

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
This is my go-to place. I don't go to strip clubs a lot, because I don't have hundreds of dollars to go out every night. But here, it is super chill, the cover is LOW and the girls are GREAT. Of course, every girl is not form me, but I always meet a super hot girl with great PERSONALITY. I don't know what brings them here, but I'll go there when I feel lonely, horny, or need to talk. I've met girls that I hope will be there, and when I see them they remember me. Maybe for a guy that is what it's all about, just some personal attention. I love this place. Also, the bar and the bartenders are great, you get your change in singles of course, and the girls are always grateful. There's a pool table but I don't really play, I hang out in the back and smoke with the girls.
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
Thank you Vivian for inviting me to see you. Once again the only reason I come to this club is cause of Vivian. She is the best of the best. She is a great asset to the club and needs to be known that. Hans good choice in bringing her there. She great.
google avatar

Georg L.

Yelp
First of all: I really like that place. Sure first for the great entertainment and second for the beer and the great music. Ideal place to go after work with your friends and shoot some pool. Tip: talk to the owner, he is very friendly and speaks quit well German. Don't miss the coupon for the reduced price on one tap beer. When I'm back in town: I'll be back!

Jorge D.

Yelp
Lapis was hands down my favorite dancers! She was so encouraging and supportive of all the other other girls and radiated confidence! Even when she was sitting by me and another girl was on stage, she would say "look at her isn't she amazing, look at how shes moving". I love this place, all the girls are so wonderful and lapis alone is the reason I'm coming back!!
google avatar

Bailey W.

Yelp
As far as topless bars go, this is the spot. The dancers are cool, the staff is friendly (BIG shout out to Isis behind the bar and DJ Matt spinning the tracks. XOXO). They serve my favorite hard cider on tap as well as some of their rather reasonable drink specials (Wine Wednesday's and Two for Tuesdays). It's got a nice dive bar feel to it unlike most clubs of this entertainment value. I recommend their sister club, Burlesque at 13324 Sherman Way North Hollywood CA 91605. You will find a lot of the same dancers you see at Star Gardens, but this place has a FULL bar and a slightly different ambiance.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
First Aid kit Purell Hand Sanitizer Dollar Bills Tetanus Shot Latex Gloves (If needed) Bleach Needlenose Pliers Scavenger hunt? Nope. These are the vital supplies you'll need to survive a trip to Star Garden. Ok, I know what you're thinking. "Didn't he just review another topless joint just a few weeks back?" Yes, I did. And for the record, I'm not a regular at topless bars...I just happened to go to another one. Get off my back. Ok, so, Star Garden. First the girls. Decent enough females with great figures, pretty faces, good attitudes and surprisingly technical routines on stage. I still find it incredible how these girls can balance themselves at the top of the "pole" with no hands and one leg....and do it so effortlessly. Another positive is that there's no pretense with any of the dancers. You want to leave a dollar? Go ahead. You don't? Don't. It's all the same. No attitude. No pressure. It's the way a topless bar should be. Now onto the bar itself. This is where the aforementioned "supplies" come into play. Star Garden brings dive bars down to another level. The term "shit hole" does a service to Star Garden. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the Andy Gump meter, Star Garden comes in at a solid 11. The decor is what I like to call the Coors Light minimal. Seriously, not too much to write home about here. Chairs, tables, floor. That's it. The bar is small, the service is good and the beer is well, beer. At some point you'll have to use the facilities. Don't say I didn't warn you. While the toilet did flush...I think...there was no handle on the faucet and no papertowels. Yeah, I know...what do I expect. I can go without papertowels...but a faucet handle? Come on. After a good five minutes of effort I did get the faucet to turn on but that's after peeling some of the skin off of my fingers. Whatever. Star Garden is a good spot...sort of...ok, well not really. But the girls are pretty and the beer is cheap. They should just update some things and douse the place in a bleach/ 409 concoction.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Let me start by quoting someone else's Yelp review, "Star garden is one of those places that you can't help but love. Even if you're not too fond of it you keep going back.." This is spot on. I've been coming to Star Garden intermittently for years, and on paper Star Garden doesn't have much going for it, but somehow you come out of it with a smile. Some other reviewers have called it "Jumbo's of NoHo," and I can't quite say that is true, but they do share some similar traits. For one, there is no aggressive, hard sell here. You can come in with friends, drink from a wide selection of extremely well priced craft beer (something Jumbo's lacks), and not once get asked if you want a dance. The bartenders are also friendly, and know their beer. The music is also great, without being so loud as to make conversation impossible. And speaking of conversation, most of the girls here are cool. They just want to chat, shoot the shit, and make their business hours pleasurable. If you're looking for a "strip club" experience, this is probably the wrong place to go. But if you just want to have a beer with some friends, while enjoying some entertainment, you can do far worse. It may not look like much, but Star Garden's got it where it counts. Give it a shot.

Yelp
If I am going to go see tits in LA (that don't belong to me or my girl friends) this is my favorite place to do it. And I don't even live in the valley! Yes, my friends. Star Gardens is that great. It is a destination titty bar. If you've ever enjoyed a strip club in Portland, you might enjoy Star Garden. Spearmint Rhino, it is not. It's rough around the edges and the girls seem like they're having fun. If your type is human barbies with stapled-on fake boobs, then Star Garden may not be the place for you. Every time I've come here, though, it's been a rollicking good time. Good music, pretty ladies, reasonable cover, and they have a pretty good beer selection! I don't go to full nude strip clubs in LA because I find them a little depressing. On the titty bar scale, though, Star Gardens is all of the fun element of Jumbo's, but with cuter girls, less hype, and lower prices.
google avatar

Terrance M.

Yelp
This is a fun little place. Only a $5 cover, the performers are cool and not snobby like I've experienced in the past, and they play a good variety of music, not just hip hop. Always have fun when I come here and always leave drunk haha. Plus they get an instant 5 stars from me for playing GZA's of WuTang Clan Liquid Swords album. That was the last place I expected to hear that. Also I believe all the dancers were real. None of that fake boob mess.
google avatar

Rosie C.

Yelp
Tyler who? Clearly, Roman, Beer, and I have different taste in women. It was all about Lola. The girl knew how to WORK IT. And when she danced in front of me, I got all flustered and stuff. I blushed. I gave her a dollar bill. I blushed some more. I wasn't too fond of the other ladies who took the stage. One had cheap red underwear on, another had really ugly boots. (Anyone else notice how the heel was worn out? Time to toss 'em out, girl!) Another performer had the devil himself tattooed on her back. Her ENTIRE BACK. That was fascinating. I also liked the music selection. Instead of the traditional booty shaking music, the ladies danced to some Smashing Pumpkins and Rob Zombie.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday afternoon for cheap pitchers of beer. Needless to say, the joint was pretty empty.... We watched 4 girls rotate, over and over and over and over. It's a topless bar only, so it wasnt too bad. I felt bad that it was dead in there, so I felt obligated to throw some dollars at the bitches......lovely ladies. whatever. The thing was, that everytime I'd throw a dollar up there, they'd start doing a sexy dance right in front of my face...I would just keep thinking to myself "Here's your dollar, I respect you!! I respect you! Please dont make eye contact" But besides that, I had a great time...The girls danced to good music, and the beer was cheap....They also were very easy on the eyes...Even mine, which were avoiding contact.

Yelp
First off, Star Garden is a topless bar. So anything that gets typed henceforth must be taken into consideration that we are in fact talking about a titty bar. So here it goes. I call this place home. If one were to look at my pay stubs they would see a tax deduction in my checks next to FICA called "ASS". It reduces my paychecks to about $3.43. This money gets wired directly into the tab at Star Garden and saves me the energy of having to walk up to the stage and toss over a few duckets. When I'm about out of money, one of the courteous employees will kindly inform me and escort me to the door. The downside to this is my skillful wrist action dollar fling has suffered and my wrist action (no jokes please) is just not as fluid as it once was during the golden years. Anyway, Star Garden is a total dive bar. While that may turn off many (most of my friends included), this is a huge plus for me. You see, I hate strip clubs. I know that sounds weird, but I do. I hate walking into a bar and feeling like a guppy being circled by huge, hungry, blood thirsty sharks. Secondly, when I go into a place like this, I want to have a good time and drink some beer. Relaxing with a botte of Crystal Geyser or a can of Sprite is hard to do. I want New Castle, or Guinness. Heck, even Budweiser if I'm low on cash. Thirdly (and this is personal preference), when I want to have a good time I want to listen to the music I love, which is hard rock and heavy metal. If I wanted to hear 5 hours of rap and techno, I'd go into Hollyweird and listen to all the pricks cruising the boulevards, blasting their systems. I SAY NO! I want beer, I want tunes, I want girls, and I want (for the most part) to be left the F alone! I don't want a dance. If I wanted one, I would ask for one! Anyway, this is what the Garden offers me. Just like a dive bar, expectations are low. Girls tend not to hassle your for stuff, and everyone there is pretty low key and cool. Having said that, it's not uncommon for "some shit to go down" as they say. I've seen power outages, people argueing, beer thrown, guys getting kicked out, and one tweeker who rumbled in. I've seen a security guard jump onto the stage and do a jig and I've seen one particular dancer bend the stripper pole. Yes indeed, the Garden is my one-stop-shop for most things vice related. I love the place and as long as they serve beer, play metal, and offer some nice chee-chee's, you'll find me sitting at one of the tables, laughing with friends and having a good time!

Yelp
I first have to say, I'm not much into strip clubs. While I love to watch sexy and/or naked girls as much as the next guy, I don't like what normally comes with it: ridiculous cover charges, over-priced drinks, getting harassed for lap dances, bad boob jobs on chicks that look like they stepped off the Jerry Springer set, creepy characters lurking about, and generally putrid environments. That said, I have to give Star Garden some props. Putrid environment? Well, yeah. Creepy characters? A few. Jerry Springer plastic surgery disasters? A couple...but this *is* a strip club for fuck's sake. However... Not once did I - or anyone else I saw - get harassed or pressured out of their money. Drinks were cheap ($10 pitcher of Bud). Cover charge was only $5, which is reasonable. Would I go to this place without the yelpers? Probably not, but I went there, I had a good time, and I didn't leave feeling cheated. Plus, a couple of the girls were very hot, natural-looking, personable, and sensual (especially two of the blonds). So, four stars - which is probably the best a strip club can get in my book, at least under California law.

Yelp
As a semi-expert in strip clubs (I have lived and partied in Tampa, FL - if you don't know you better ask somebody) I have to say this was one of the seedier ones I have been in - holes in the ceiling covered by duct tape? A big hole above the pole? A circulating fan on the stage to keep the girls cool as they worked said pole? Hmmm.....AND a $5.00 cover for me (apparently not everyone had to pay a cover so this kinda gets my goat) Still, I am not one to shy away from dirty good fun, in fact I rather like it. A girl can get dressed up in finery and champagne only so many times before she just says "F* it - where's the cheap wine and the stripper pole?" There were some good girls (Lola, Tyler, Ginger) and some bad (Sunny, scary girl who put her boobs and ass cheeks on the pole - ew!) but it's all in good fun and most of these girls had a decent attitude when confronted with more people than they have probably ever seen on a Thursday evening. Beers and wine only, price range 5 to 6 dollars. The bartender is fully willing to hand out the dollar bills for change and the girls on stage do work for their money - so here's the situations the front row devised during the evening: A) Chick is not cute and is not connecting with us, or the song choice is suspect (Melissa Ethridge, WTH?)therefore not making any money. "Pity dollar." B) Chick drops top early. "Early titty dollar" C) Chick climbs up that pole and either shimmies perfectly to the bottom or stays there while taking off top or she can do things with her booty (how do you do that??) "Damn that's skills dollar" D) Chick can work it and connects with audience. "Dollar bills y'all!" I saw a little bit of everything last night and our crew was so great the DJ bought us a round -- thanks for my Smirnoff Ice Mr. DJ - and where the hell did you get that song "West Hollywood Lifestyle, Whatever"? I can't find it anywhere. Never did I think I would be in a N. Hollywood dive strip bar and find a new song I had never heard of and love it. Wonders never cease. Too bad it wasn't amateur night as I am sure the Yelperettes in attendance at this UYE could've smoked the pole they were looking fine gentlemen! -- and now after last night I am all jazzed again for pole dancing classes -- anyone want to join??

Yelp
i have so much to say about the Gardz. So here we go. The gardz is a magical place in many ways but the flowing beer and soju drinks make it wonderful. In terms of quality girls, you have about 60% that are fantastic and the remainder I typically go smoke a cig or two while they dance. Sometimes I feel bad but im paying for a service. I have only seen one lap dance and it didn't seem very exciting. The music is typically great because it's music the girls want to dance to. The best night in my opinion is friday. Saturday usually doesnt have the greatest line up. Once the management changed it has gotten much classier. You no longer need floaties to use the mens bathroom and the white drapery is a nice touch. The bartenders are always great and my friends and I have had so many unforgettable nights there. The neighborhood is terrible but Im from the Valley so it doesnt really phase me. Fortunately you can park on Lankersheim without a problem. All in all i love the gardz. It has been a staple in our "man" night for quite some time.

Yelp
I went here for a Yelp event --- BUT --- I was one week EARLY. Hello - McFly? It is frightening how my brain sometimes miss-fires. Maybe that is why I am so optimistic? I REALLY like this place. Warm and inviting. The door-man/bouncer is cool. After he threw my ass out New York-Aussie style cuz I was tossing quarters on the dance floor, he and I chatted about motorcycles for over an hour. My old "Mad-Max" bike was the only bike there --- THEN --- 5 young hipster-dudes on old- school bobbed bikes LOUDLY RUMBLED up to the Star Garden curb and parked their bad-ass old bobber bikes next to my nerdy (yet rugged!) BMW. Inside was cool. The dancers are very friendly and very talented. Ginger, a very pretty redhead, chatted with me for awhile and then she danced. She mentioned that she had a gymnastics background. Understandable because her dance moves were both acrobatic and erotic. "Little Egypt" (aka Lori) was a very pretty brunette with cool Japanese/Americana tattoos. She had a very generous smile. I wish I new the name of the first song she danced to because it was highly dramatic and her moves were very sensual. I was fascinated that some of the gentleman at the club threw ORIGAMI dollar bills and launched the mini-art pieces onto the dance-floor; amazing! Dollar bills shaped like Swans, ducks, and birds --- WOW. That was cool. But when I tossed up my crumpled bills on the stage I felt a bit pedestrian. But after the dance the ladies would express gratitude to the patrons. So, crumpled or fancy - flying dollar bills seem to be appreciated. Although there is NO PRESSURE to toss bills. You can chat with dancers, staff, and watch baseball on the TV, have adult beverages and still be welcomed. The cute female bartender with the cool Americana tattoos mentioned that you can order pizza and have it delivered to the bar! She said bringing food is cool, but "PLEASE DON'T BRING DRINKS. BUY DRINKS HERE, THANK YOU!" Drinks --- my diet Coke with no-ice was $4.00 (not including .87 cent tip) and my fake-beer was $3.00 (not including .77 cent tip). And no chop-busting regarding my gratuity methods. Ya keep giving dollars and that's when complacency sets in. Even though I was here alone, the staff and the dancers made me feel very welcome. This place is comfy, entertaining, erotic, and inviting. Hopefully I can make it next week.

Yelp
Great dive bar/ strip bar here. Cheap beer, holes in the ceiling, peeling paint, truck stop quality bathrooms, and a no nonsense bartender. I love it! And add in half naked chicks... you can't go wrong! Great music here also.... Hard rock to 80's. Kept the vibe going. The ladies ran the gamut from tatted-up scary chick to fresh faced high school dropout looking babes. And the skill level varied as well. The chick with the devil tattoo on the back was interesting. She looked like she wanted to scare u into giving her $1 bills, and another seemed like she was thinking of her grocery list, window treatments or something else instead of us paying patrons. . Whatever! The two best performers there by far were Lola and Tyler. Lola had great assets, shall we say, and was very much into it. But it seemed to me that Tyler connected a little better with the audience with a hot body as well. A tad thin, but great curves nonetheless. Either way they were both top notch and well worth my gas money. Would definitely go back as part of the group.

Yelp
First let me say that I'm not a "strip club" type of guy. You know the places where you're constantly hounded for your money and there are super creepy dudes by themselves that actually believe that the strippers are sincere and want to speak too them. Not to mention the prices for drinks. Star garden is a bar with girls dancing. Very good music if you're on the rock/ punk side of things. They have sports on the TV's and I think a pool table. (could be wrong about that) Very reasonable drink prices and all the staff and dance'n girls are awesome. Most of the people I've seen there have been couples. I go with my GF and she loves it. Even got her a lap dance! Bottom line is I'd recommend it for a little mild adult entertainment. It's a good time.

Yelp
Seriously! We had our buddy's bachelor party tonight, and this place was wayyyyy more fun than any of the other spots we hopped between. It had good beers on tap, friendly service, the entertainment was fun and awesome! High-five to the staff for making it a great evening for everyone!

Yelp
If I had $10 and wanted cheap beer, a place to watch the dodgers game, and be in the company of attractive women, I'd come here. If I wanted to go to a strip club and blow a bunch of money, I'd probably go somewhere else
