Seattle Holidays 2021: Movie Nights, Croquembouche, and Japantown Jingle | Eater Seattle

"I learned that Capitol Hill’s Star Fusion & Bar announced its last day will be Saturday, December 11; known for large portions, sushi, and dishes like sesame chicken, the family-owned restaurant opened as the pandemic began and closed after nearly two years because of high rent and other expenses and ineligibility for government loans, and they said they will forever cherish being part of customers' special days." - Eater

Google
Absolutely amazing! We chose Star Sushi & Bar for a celebratory dinner and it was wonderful!! Turned out to be Happy Hour menu from 4-9pm and not to mention the wonderful drinks and mocktails,.even if it wasn’t Happy Hour menu availability, everything was more than worth the cost. The sushi chef even made a special side dish that was greatly appreciated! This is now our new go to sushi spot!

Google
Went to Star Sushi & Bar on a Saturday night around 7pm, surprisingly not too crowded at first, but it did start to fill up later. The sushi was very fresh, and we were happy with the variety of rolls we ordered. The grilled edamame was a hit, super tasty, though we wish it had a bit more salt. The servers were really kind and attentive, though it took a little while to get our check once the place got busy. As expected in Capitol Hill, parking is tough, so plan ahead! Overall, a solid spot for casual, decent sushi in the area.

Google
Came here for a date night for the first time and this place was great. Great atmosphere, great food, great service. Our waiter, Miles, saw I was looking for something spicy and recommended the Hamachi Lover -- he was right on target. The nigiri flight was excellent as well. Everything we asked for was provided quickly and with a smile.

Google
Omg so good ! I’m really picky, that sashimi was very very fresh, like a higher end Omakase restaurant fresh. And the tempura was so crispy and the perfect temperature, I’m definitely coming back again. It was a nice end of the day dinner for myself. Sorry for the grammar errors. I’m using speech to text.

Google
Start off with the raw oysters. Be aware that in this part of the country they are going to be very small but flavorful! They are served in a half shell with a liquid that accentuates the flavor Incredible sushi, sashimi and other Chinese foods. The sake flight is great. The bubbly is my wife's favorite. The warm sake with dinner is a must! The Charizard roll is a show! Look at the video I posted. Served in tin foil over a flaming liquid, awesome.

Tani K.

Google
The fish was fresh and delicious. Bluefin Sashimi Flight was really good. Cherry Blossom and Hamachi Lover rolls were good. Comfortable spot with great service. Full bar with a great selection.

Google
We had a fantastic experience! The ambiance was warm and inviting, the service was top-notch, and the food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. Just when we thought the experience couldn't get any better, they surprised us with something special at the end—a thoughtful touch that made the meal even more memorable. It’s those little details that truly make this place stand out. We highly recommend it and will definitely be coming back!

Google
This is an amazing place for any occasion. Whether it’s a dinner date, or just something late, this place is the place to be if you like sushi. If you’re a drinker don’t be a thinker. The Yuzu Gin Fizz is the shizz. With a little kick it does the trick to leave you satisfied with glass eyes. Star Sushi is the place. You have to try it without haste.

Yelp
The refined interior and attentive service were impressive, but the true standout was the cuisine. The nigiri was exceptionally fresh and delicious, and every dish was prepared with great care. It's rare to come across a restaurant of this caliber in Capitol Hill

Yelp
Cute ambiance and very affordable! We had three people, ate three rolls and an entree and two appetizers (we were very hungry) and the bill was only about $120. Definitely will go again next time I'm in Seattle.

Yelp
I was craving for some good otoro since I experienced it in Japan and saw some recommendations for this place. The price for otoro sashimi is more or less similar to other places but their alaska roll was super expensive at $9. 5 piece shrimp tempura was $12. Otoro looked fantastic but it lacked the melt in your mouth feel I got from the otoro I had in Japan. The Alaska roll was decent - fish was fresh but overall the roll was on the smaller side. The prawn tempura was soggy when I got home. They did not cut holes in the paper box so it steamed in there. For these prices I expected more thought into that.

Yelp
this is a delicious sushi spot in the heart of Capital Hill! i dined solo, outside, my order consisting of: a berry spritz mocktail, pan-fried gyozas, an SSS signature roll, and a yellowtail jalapeños roll. everything i had was delicious. if i were to be picky, the presentation of the seared tuna atop the SSS roll could have been nicer, BUT it was still a great flavor. for a tuesday evening, the atmosphere was pretty chill. i was able to read a bit in between munching. the servers were kind and checked on me often. one in particular chatted with me a little as he was running my payment. i will definitely return next time i'm in town :)

Yelp
The food was amazing, I've been craving more since I've been there. Our server was so cool. He was very helpful with the menu and describing the food and had such an upbeat personality. It's a nice spot, nice vibe. Has a bar as well. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
On a lively section of Broadway, Star Sushi offers booths inside and tables for two on their outdoor patio. Tuesday night happy hour extends to 9pm, so it's a good night to check out this place. That said, our service was spotty. I'm not sure if it's because they were understaffed or had new servers. We were greeted warmly and servers were courteous, but we waited a long time after being seated and once we were finished with our meal. I had to flag down servers for both our beverages and to order dessert, and then again to get our check. That said, the main event - the sushi - was delicious. We sampled their signature rolls, classic rolls, and some happy hour specials. We all agreed it was excellent. The fish was fresh, the rice warm, soft, and chewy, and overall, better than average for the price. A strong 3.5 stars, so rounding up to 4. It's a solid 4 once their service improves. Bring a date - or your out-of-town parents - with confidence.

Yelp
We had a great dinner here. The service was fantastic! Many people checked on us and helped us during our meal, each incredibly friendly. They have really unique and delicious options on their menu. The setting was nice filled with a lot of fake pink flowers. Definitely will be coming back here!

Yelp
My kids and I had such a great experience that we came twice in one week while staying in a nearby Airbnb; we've come back even though we don't live super close because of the great customer service, good prices, and really good food! The menu has so many good options, we loved the miso soup, mochi dessert, and of course the sushi!
google avatar

Yelp
Went here instead of going to out usual spot. Great vegetarian options...didn't snag a photo but the veggie potstickers - gurl, so amazing I ordered it twice. Dominic helped us, fabulous human. Very helpful!!
google avatar

Yelp
Been here many many times this was all time best most flavorful Ramen broth in Seattle! Service is always great. Food is fresh and tasty! Outside patio area, weather permitting, dogs allowed. Great menu options

Yelp
Nice ambiance, great service, nice and clear restaurant. The rolls were great, we had a few crunchy ones, dragon & Rainbow. The best was the calamari, as a starter. I highly recommend. It was breaded just right. The pesto sauce had a bit of a kick, we avoided it. The drinks were also very good. We will return.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I tried the cherry blossom and short ribs, and both dishes were amazing. All their fish were fresh and great. They have some good vegetarian and gluten free food options such as rolls and ramen soups.

Yelp
Nice spot for sushi and other Asian eats! We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and there were a decent amount of other diners. The decor inside is cute and fun. The menu had a lot of good choices and vegetarian options...it was hard not to order too much! We ended up deciding on the calamari to share and two of the specialty sushi tuna rolls - the SSS (avocado, cucumber, and tempura asparagus with spicy tuna, sesame-seared tuna, spicy mayo, and spicy ponzu dip) and the Toro Lover (chopped bluefin tuna, cucumber, avocado topped with bluefin tuna, unagi sauce and micro greens). The calamari was nice and crispy and the gochujang spicy sweet aioli dipping sauce was an excellent accompaniment. Both rolls had great flavor and were plenty filling. The SSS even had some extra tempura asparagus which was a nice touch. Service was a little slow but the sushi and calamari were so good that I would definitely come back. Calamari ended up being happy hour pricing which was a great surprise too!

Yelp
Delicious fresh sushi and nice staff. Friendly and attentive staff. Would def come again here.

Yelp
Decided to try this restaurant for happy hour on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Wakame Salad, Takoyaki, Alaska Roll, and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Beverage wise, I ordered the Lychee Martini and Star Cocktail. My favorites were the Wakame Salad, which was extremely fresh and brimming with flavor, and the classic Alaska roll. The Lychee Martini was cute, playful, and tasty. I sat at a counter seat and received top-notch service with all of my dishes coming out quite quickly. I also had a wonderful conversation with the Itamae, who I can tell really enjoys his work which added a bit of additional delight to the experience. I will definitely visit again to try their full menu. I'm especially looking forward to the oysters which they were out of due to the Memorial holiday logistical issues with ordering. As fresh as everything else was, I know the oysters will be amazing!

Yelp
This was recommended by a friend who lives in Seattle and wow! I am so glad we spent dinner here. The staff provided great service, the food was amazing, and the ambience was perfect. We spent quite a bit of time just talking, enjoying our dishes and suddenly they surprised us with plum wine! That plum wine was delicious.

Yelp
The Ranier roll is the best cooked roll I've had in my 28 years of eating sushi. Great service, kind people, and careful execution. Kids loved their ramen, rolls, and karage as well.
google avatar

Sydney W.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've had in Seattle! They prepared it exactly how I like it with sliced lemons and fresh cut jalapeños on top. The service is amazing and food is delicious! Love this place!
google avatar

ThuyVy N.

Yelp
Overall, love this place. Great prices, never had a line. Great happy hour deals, good location. The service here is also nice and friendly. We really liked the nigiri flight. The lychee martini was really good and sweet. I thought the chicken karrage was only just mid tho, not very crispy and also the meat wasn't very tender. I thought the hamachi roll was only ok, didn't taste too fresh and I wanted more of a crunch with the jalapeno and I didn't really taste it. The salmon was really good though. The oysters were good as well but probs my first pic if I wanted oysters specifically, they come with sauce and all that and I don't think it's obviously as fresh as like an oyster farm spot.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
I usually just get takeout from here and their food is always on point! My go to order is the sesame chicken - super flavorful, breaded with a tempura-like crust and coated in a thick sweet sesame sauce. Super tasty and you can smell a lot of aromatics like ginger from the chicken. The service is also really great, the past couple times I've gotten complementary miso soup from them which is definitely appreciated especially with the cold weather. Highly recommend anyone to try this place out!

Jamie J.

Yelp
The ramen was delicious and paired extremely well with the edamame and the tempura veggies. A MUST!

Yelp
I come here a lot with my friends and family members and each time is a wonderful experience. The service is always kind and efficient so I absolutely love coming here as I feel welcome. Food is fantastic, they never fail to amaze me with plating and flavor! The drinks are great as well and they're so visually appealing. This restaurant has a really nice ambiance and it's so picture worthy! I definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
This place really has a good authentic feel and the food was out of the world. Very fresh sushi big portions and friendly staff.

Kevin Y.

Yelp
I am an unprofessional sushi connoisseur. I've eaten raw fish on every continent, sashimi right off the boat, and this is my favorite spot to eat. Highest quality of fish, very well priced, incredible food. Gotta get in here
google avatar

Aravind V.

Yelp
I got the Mercer roll, and while I'm not a huge fan of the little tomato dollop on top, the rest of the roll and especially the fish quality were great. Definitely on the pricier side for a single order of rolls though. I also got a coconut porter (first time I'd seen that) that was pretty tasty, and I would recommend. Staff was pretty quick at seating me and taking my order, and were very friendly and helpful throughout. I'd come back here to try more rolls with a larger group (split family style to justify the price)!
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Good food & very attentive, friendly service. Our party had 3 with rolls and 2 with sesame chicken. The sushi was ample sized and fresh. The sesame was great...extra crunchy and had fabulous flavor. There was street parking, although not easy to come by, and a pay lot nearby. Patio and indoor seating available. Good meal!
google avatar

Yelp
The night we went the restaurant was pretty empty. We sat at the bar and only ordered some oysters. I was disappointed. They were very small and not fresh at all. Considering their feature photo on Yelp was oysters I was hoping for better quality.

Tobey K.

Yelp
Had the best experience at Star Sushi and Bar! It was our first time visiting and we celebrated a birthday where the staff went above and beyond with generosity and attention to detail. The appetizers were great, the sushi rolls were absolutely delicious, and the outdoor patio was the perfect mix of peaceful and fun. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this restaurant for excellent food and service!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious sushi! It was my first time getting a veggie roll (evergreen) and it was so good - the fried asparagus was so yummy. We also got the dragon, salmon lover, and broadway. All were so good! I like the broadway maybe the most because I was craving baked salmon at the time. The sushi was a bit pricier than we thought it was going to be ($20ish per roll), but it was good and the Sapporo was like $7. The food didn't take too long to come out as well.

Yelp
Came here on valentine's day with my girlfriend on a whim. We were visiting from Cali and were craving sushi so we hit up this spot. We got seated fairly quickly and sat at the bar with the sushi chefs. We had amazing service and friendly staff. They gave us free fans for the holiday, and the host even sprinkled little confetti hearts where we sat. The owner/head chef KJ was working on the line and is definitely somebody you should talk to if you can. It's refreshing to see an owner so passionate and happy with their job, which is something so rare to experience nowadays. Also got "love potions" (plum wine shots) after the meal. Will 100% be coming back when we visit Seattle again over summer, 10/10 spot highly recommend!

Rolando C.

Yelp
Bestie sushi place ever!!!! Candice is so amazing and so is everyone else. You need to go to Star Sushi & Bar and enjoy the experience!!!

Yelp
So delicious food and ambient music and good service. I am very like some Mongolian special food with sushi. Super delicious combination.

Yelp
Ok so this is a late review as l thought l had left one. These are truly the best seasoned noodles. Lightly fried, with a hint of garlic and onion. I have to say l ordered these in May 2022 and still l think about them. I had to finish my review and show this business som YELP love.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a sunny weekend and was able to sit on their patio with our dog. They offer happy hour everyday until 6pm and had several things to choose from. We ordered 4 different rolls for 2 people and were full after. For the rolls, we got eel, shrimp tempura, salmon, and tuna. I would say each roll tasted good and fresh. I would highly recommend coming here and plan to come back to try other menu items.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
Food was delicious got the nigiri flight, spicy tuna and hamaki. Service was very attentive Joseph was awesome. We were able to get a nice table outside.
google avatar

Katy B.

Yelp
I'm super impressed by the friendly staff - shout out to Daisy! - and the improvement made to decor after the last establishment(s) with the exception of dilettante bar (I miss you!!!). It's light and airy and I bet the twinkle lights are romantic at night. This place must be tasty, though, because I've seen about twenty togo orders in the twenty minutes I've been here. For the record my tempura is lightly fried and delicious.

Sandra B.

Yelp
The food was good. Nice menu selections. The cocktails are not good at all. The Lychee Martini has no alcohol and is super sweet. The saki is of poor quality. Have a beer or water and enjoy the food. Don't spend your money on bad cocktails.
google avatar

Jalen A.

Yelp
Customer service, food and atmosphere were amazing! Joseph was a great server and made the visit memorable, Thank you again!!
google avatar

Paola R.

Yelp
The service was top notch! The food was really good and the price a were great. Definitely worth it, and will be visiting again!

Yelp
This was the first place I came to when I landed in Seattle. I started with a lychee martini which is now my new favorite cocktail. I had the shrimp tempura roll and the sesame chicken which was very good. However, the oysters were my favorite dish! Everyone was so nice and attentive and I loved the Halloween decor!

Paul D.

Yelp
Wrong food/order brought to table. Service slow to respond/inexperienced. 2/5 star sushi.

Cheryl ..

Yelp
Great quality food and friendly service! Cocktails are a must try; highly recommend their martinis & margaritas.

Candice C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Will go back often! The setting is beautiful too! I have recommended to so many people!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
Stopped by at around 12:30pm for lunch on a Saturday with a friend. It was pretty quiet when we arrived but it definitely picked up by the time we left at around 1:30pm. They do take reservations online. Service was attentive and friendly. My friend and I ordered a sushi roll each. Mine was decent (kamikaze without red onions) and filled me up. Parking is typical Capitol Hill parking but the Capitol Hill station is a short walk away.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
The ambience was so pretty especially at night! I love the sesame chicken, it tasted delicious with rice. The service was friendly and they turn on the heater for me when they saw how cold I was.

Samantha P.

Yelp
So empty. I hate being the only one in a restaurant, makes me paranoid that there's a reason there's no one in there
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
This is not your traditional Japanese place for nigiri sushi but their menu is packed with all kinds of Japanese items plus a flare of fusion choices too. So it is definitely a place for everyone (esp for guests that don't want to eat raw). Overall. Food was good. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that their sake selection was minimal and they didn't have tamago (egg nigiri). They said they ran out. But it wasn't even on the menu. Nigiri menu is limited. But if these things are deal breakers for you then you should definitely go try.
google avatar

Cole K.

Yelp
Great happy hour spot in a convenient location in Capital Hill next to a parking lot. Between 2-4 there is a nice crowd, but really clears out after 4pm until around 6pm. Food service was quick and our appetizers was delicious. Drinks were pretty strong, but I'm not complaining about delicious cocktails.
