I have been waiting for this place to open and happened to pass by when they had "soft opened" though I didn't know what that meant. The owner of the place was there at the door greeting everyone as they slowly entered to not overcrowd indoors. I ordered a full order for my family as I would. So, I ordered:
1)The Hot Bird Sandwich ~for me~ wanting to try a kickin' good fried chicken sandwich.--Was not spicy at all, it was all right, I kept using my daughter's Ranch dressing for flavor & My Husband's Sesame Dressing~which is AMAZINGly delicious
2) The Katsu salad for my husband~ He is a Japaenes Katsu fan--This was an awesome salad~ hands down we will get this every time. The Fried Chicken was chopped and had Katsu Sauce on each bite, the salad with edamame was crisp and fresh but I just wish the Cucumbers were a bit more substantial than the paper thin slices.
3) The Chop Salad ~for my salad daughter--this salad was confusing, the flavors went in different directions~i bought it thinking it would be a chop salad and then was further committed to the details for it being like a tostada salad with Pepitas and Cotija. Pepitas were there, cotija cheese didn't stand out and the dressing was .....somehow not unifying this salad. Tortilla strip were there but~ can't explain it, the flavors didn't unite this salad that seems so Californian. Maybe a do over for next time, after I've tried the other salads AND maybe this salad should be with Grilled chicken in stead of the overwhelming fried chicken.
4) Classic chicken tenders for my other child which came with fries and a Kale Slaw.-- Everyone dove into the fries as what family doesn't? They were great. My kids actually split the salad and tenders and they would rather just have the tenders. (Teens)
5) 2 orders of Churros~ these were pretty plain, some had sugar on them and they were all right.
There was syrup in the order and was not sure what they were for~ the un-sugared churros? Or the chicken?(an waffles play?)
Again, this was a soft open and so as I was about to pay, they were like no it's a soft open, it's free. We are just in practice mode. Ahh wow! My dinner was free. How wonderful that was!
The next day I had a lone tender that was left over with the uneaten Kale Slaw. THAT little combo was SO delicious COLD~I'd love that for lunch any day!
Again, so many other things to try on that menu that I didn't even attempt. I think there is a balance in maybe NOT ordering everything fried. I am looking forward to trying all the salads! I def. recommend trying this place, I happen to LOVE fried Chicken but hate making it~if this is you this might be a good go to. Their little soda bar was so unique, NONE or the usual Giant Companies. There was a flavored sparkling water on there that was SO good, that I topped with Lemonade and the flavor had a Coconut undertone that was so different and refreshing. I usually don't order drinks but I would order one again!
