Mixed experience — amazing start, but inconsistent service since
Staying in town for work and was excited to see a Starbucks inside the Hyatt Regency. I wish I knew this barista’s name (I promise to come back and edit this review if I catch her again before the weekend is up), because she was absolutely amazing — and that’s coming from a former Starbucks barista myself. She gave me a new drink recommendation that was absolutely delectable and helped kick off my weekend in the best way after a long day of traveling. Seriously, she set the bar.
Unfortunately… that bar hasn’t been met since.
The next day, I ordered the same drink I always do — one I’ve had countless times at other Starbucks — and it had a funky, sour taste. At first, I thought maybe it was just me, but I had someone else try it, and they agreed something was off. I returned to kindly explain what happened (not mad, just wanted a remake), and the barista immediately got defensive: “What do you mean?” Four other staff members jumped in to reassure me the milk and syrup weren’t expired — okay, noted — but I wasn't trying to argue ingredients. I just wanted a drink I could actually drink. Thankfully, one finally said they’d remake it, which I appreciated… but even the second one tasted spoiled. I didn’t take it back again — I just tossed it.
Then this morning I placed a mobile order (avoiding white mocha, lesson learned). It took THIRTY MINUTES for my drink to come up. A teammate of mine waited FORTY-FIVE MINUTES for hers. As someone who used to work the bar, I can say with confidence that’s beyond a normal delay — even during peak times. There were plenty of staff behind the counter and not enough orders to explain the backup. Maybe they’re still training or short on experience, but during a morning rush, you’ve got to have a balance of seasoned team members to keep things flowing. From what I saw, the pace was just unusually slow.
On the bright side — my drink today was at least drinkable.
All in all, great potential here. Some staff are shining stars (again, shout out to the mystery barista from Friday!). I just hope management can work on consistency, communication, and speed — because the demand is clearly there, and the location is prime.
