Study Finds Black Baristas at Airport Starbucks Make Less Than White Baristas | Eater

"A Unite Here pay study using data collected February–October 2019 across 142 airport stores in 27 airports reports median hourly wages of $11.15 for Black baristas, $12.67 for Latinx baristas, and $13 for white baristas, suggesting racial pay disparities at the chain's airport locations. The report also says those airport outlets did not close for the national day of racial-bias training that affected about 8,000 company-owned stores, and alleges additional workplace issues including misgendering of LGBTQ workers and managers instructing immigrant staff to stop speaking their preferred language. Those airport outlets are typically run by HMSHost (which had an exclusive partnership with the chain until earlier this year); HMSHost has called the disparity claims “completely untrue,” attributing differences in part to variations in average tenure among racial groups—a rationale the union says does not explain why tenure differs. Corporate policies highlight progressive benefits and 100 percent pay equity across genders and races in company stores, but corporate representatives declined or did not respond to requests for comment in coverage of the report." - Jenny G. Had a very early morning flight but had plenty of time to go to an entire separate concourse for my morning coffee as souther grounds was not open yet. Super grateful that they were open early! My drink was fine & the service I received from the nice girl who took my order was very kind. My issue was the girl who was hustling into work, threw her giant clear bag on the counter, attempted to clock in & find out that the printer was out of paper. That apparently set her off in a way that once she noticed I was standing in one waiting patiently for her to take care of whatever she needed to do in order to get her morning together. She then looked at me & said “Morning. Give me a minute.” This greeting was paired with the gesture of “what do you want lady?” Needless to say, I didn’t receive that well. Kept my thoughts to myself & continued to wait until I was taken care of by another young lady. Attitudes like this are understandable early in the morning but to treat people for simply being patient is just rude & unnecessary. Be better.

This location is my go to coffee spot when I hit the airport, which is typically once every week. With the airport construction, they are now the only Starbucks in the airport. Although typically very busy, they are quick, efficient and always friendly. And this morning reminded me of what a great job they do every day. And a fellow customer also lifted my spirits in a frustrating, self inflicted situation. I ordered oatmeal with my iced espresso. While trying to juggle my order, I dropped my oatmeal and made a huge mess. Immediately, a young woman asked an employee if they had some towels and then grabbed napkins along with me and helped me clean it up. When I thanked her, she just said “we’ve all been there”. And then without even asking, one of the employees got me another oatmeal to replace what I spilled. A frustrating situation turned into something that made my day. So thank you to the kind young woman (customer) who helped me without a second thought. And thank you to the store employees who make this location great.

Staff was wonderful. I appreciate them being here so early for work, but unfortunately I found a date sticker inside my Impossible Sandwich. It was embedded inside and not on the outside so I assume it was a manufacturing error. I do have photos, not sure how to post as a Google review on this format

I was really disappointed with my iced matcha latte. It was overwhelmingly sweet, almost like drinking a cup full of sugar. I was hoping for a balanced, refreshing flavor, but this missed the mark entirely.

Horrible. I purchased a salted caramel cold coffee through the Starbucks app. My total was 7.92. I looked at my credit card app and they charged me 25.00. I called the number to the store listed on the app and it's disconnected. I guess since I was traveling ( they are located on concourse C in the Jacksonville International Airport) they figure they can overcharge passengers they may never see again. Check your card purchase if you go to these rip off artists. I will NEVER drink from a Starbucks again because of these CROOKS.

I’m guilty of paying over $10 for a coffee yes. However that coffee really should be worth the $10. The caramel macchiato I got was not flavored and the. Just sauce poured in I guess to add flavor. Sorry please do better. I know you are very busy but don’t compromise quality when we are paying a lot for a beverage.

It's always a great drink. However, they must have issues calling out names that they don't like. Instead, they only called out the drink name.

WHAT A TERRIBLE STARBUCKS!!! Only 2 people in front of me and still it took almost 20min for my coffee — largely due to the employees being more wrapped up in their conversation than the customers they were serving! To make matters worse, store was dirty with nothing stocked. Definitely will NOT be back!
