Pumpkin Spice Season Is Being Ruined By Climate Change | Eater

"Responsible for popularizing pumpkin spice, the company created the pumpkin spice latte (PSL) in 2003 to answer what an espresso version of fall’s most seasonal dessert would taste like and celebrated the drink’s 20th anniversary this year. It has steadily moved the seasonal launch earlier — from an October debut in 2003 to a September 8 start by 2015 and August launches since 2018 — releasing the PSL on August 24 this year. Facing warmer autumns and strong demand for cold options, it has expanded fall offerings to include iced items such as the pumpkin cream cold brew and the iced apple crisp oat milk shaken espresso (iced beverages make up a vast majority of its beverage sales). The brand’s early rollouts and seasonal marketing have prompted discussion about the mismatch between autumnal imagery and unseasonably warm weather, and the company continues to face scrutiny over its labor-relations tactics." - Jaya Saxena

Howard Schultz Defends Starbucks’ Anti-Union Stance in Congressional Hearing | Eater

"In a highly publicized HELP Committee hearing prompted by accusations of illegal union-busting, former CEO Howard Schultz defended the company, calling NLRB findings “allegations” and insisting the company had not broken the law while invoking a $17.50 starting wage and a history of good benefits. An NLRB judge, however, concluded the company had violated the National Labor Relations Act “hundreds of times” and engaged in “egregious and widespread misconduct,” ordering reinstatements of unlawfully fired workers and a posted notice informing employees of their right to unionize; the company is appealing. Worker witnesses described lost health coverage after hours were cut below eligibility thresholds, inadequate benefits that forced a disabled veteran to rely on VA care, alleged surveillance of employees via order headsets, and the firing of more than 20 pro-union workers, while union organizers noted ongoing momentum with more than 280 successful union elections and at least one store filing for unionization during the hearing. Shareholders voted to pursue a third-party review of labor practices, and the company said it is undertaking an independent human-rights impact assessment focused on freedom of association and collective bargaining. Schultz stepped down as CEO shortly before the hearing and was replaced by Laxman Narasimhan; critics and lawmakers said the proceedings helped spotlight corporate labor practices and likely energized further organizing even as legal and congressional investigations continue." - Amy McCarthy

Starbucks already has a great reputation for delicious coffee, drinks, food, and baked items served with a smile. This new location is beautifully designed inside. Plenty of natural light. I had a complicated drink order... Actually I thought my request was impossible. I wanted a cold latte, but I wanted to add two packets of raw sugar, which, of course, wouldn't dissolve easily. The barista (manager) said she could mix the sugar with the shot of coffee first and then add the milk and ice. Pure genius. The drink was delicious.

Love the vibes and atmosphere! Sometimes they are really slow even when there is no lines outside and are often out of stuff, but very convenient and overall a decent Starbucks! They staff are also very nice and welcoming!

Stopped in this morning, around 6:30, picked up two things of Via instant, and wanted to order a drink to go as well. Staff was working on orders, but no acknowledgment at all. Then, stood at register, no “be with you in a minute,” again, no acknowledgement at all. After four minutes I just left. A simple “hi” or any sign that you saw there was a person in your store and I’d have gladly waited. Staff was working, I was headed to work, not in a hurry, but my purchase in your store ended up as nonexistent as you make customers.

What can I say? Of course, we all know $7.00 for coffee is as ridiculous as the gas prices 🙄 or the price for cigarettes. Of course, the price of cigarettes is one of the main reasons I was able to quit in the 1st place. So I figured out how to make my own coffee better than Starbucks, and wow, the money I am saving is sickening! And it paid for the coffee machine. That texted, I only stopped in to see how much the price had changed since 2017 when I left America for a few years. My drink used to cost 4 dollars and some change, but in North Carolina, the management was always giving me free drinks because I always showed up right before closing on my to work for 3rd shift. The best Starbucks experience ever in Fuquay-Varina, NC. More than 20 times in a 6 month period, during normal business hours, the line was always around the building and into the street, so typically, a car in front of me would pay for my order. The management told me this is a common thing among some Starbucks consumers... plus plus

I was the only person in line. I paid and she handed it out to me. I said “oh you forgot cream”. She snatched it back, put the cream in and immediately handed it back. She didn’t even bother to stir it. The cup was also wet with the coffee and cream. No napkins offered. Didn’t bother to wipe the cup for me. The drink tasted fine I guess? But at that point she had poured cream over my cold foam and it takes away the whole idea of the cold foam on top :( I was not in a rush nor acting like I was. But for some reason she seemed to be in a rush? Like I said not a single other person in the drive thru line. Overall just not nice or even trying to act it. I always try giving Starbucks a chance again and then they show me why I should never come back 🫤 I like the all the hospitals Starbucks at least the workers are nice 🥴😭 Also funny af how Starbucks responded to the 5 star reviews from 1 month ago that look planted or like someone working the business made it. And have yet to reach out to the 1-2 star reviews from 5+ months ago. Real convenient and seems like the same rude staff works there that did months ago. Definitely solidifies me not going back 🤣 They’re a trash company anyway

This is the worst Starbucks in the Quad Cities. I'm very much a regular at several Starbucks locations around this area. All are between good and great except this one. I hate calling out a single employee, but Lindsay is likely the reason for much of my complaints. I almost always order online. I mark it for drive thru pickup and I've never had a single issue with any other locations. This one consistently complains about me "arriving too early" to pickup my drive thru order. I don't think they understand that they can just make the order in the order that the cars arrive. Instead, if I don't order 5 to 10 minutes before I arrive, they have me pull around to the front of the store and wait, typically until the entire drive thru line is clear, and then they bring my drink. That, and they (Lindsay specifically) are just rude and mean. That is the opposite experience I have at any other Starbucks in the area. They are friendly, just make the drinks as the cars come through, and give their customer's a good experience. What I can say is I'm not spending over $7 for a drink that's not made to the same quality as the other locations and have the barista treat me like an annoyance and be rude to me. By the time I got my drink the last time, I almost just left and said "I'm done with Starbucks all together." On the other hand, I do enjoy the drinks and experience of going everywhere but here. If anyone with any pull at Starbucks has any ability to look into this employee and remove her from anything having to do directly with a customer, please do. She is a very toxic employee and should not be around the other employees or in a service job in general. The experience I had today is a consistent experience with almost every visit I've made there, and I'm just done with this location. Even though it's only a couple blocks from my house, I'll take the extra couple mile trip to go to the one near the hospital since the people working there are so much more pleasant to order from.

WOW!!! The staff is so RUDE!!! We went this AM at 10:45 and the staff was calling the police on an elderly gentleman flying a drone from public property around the Starbucks. They were in an uproar about it so I decided to try and educate them gently. I explained he is breaking no laws doing this! They yelled at me that it’s against Starbucks to video the property! I said that doesn’t matter since he’s on public property! He’s not trespassing and there’s no reason to call the police! She told me to shut up and someone will be with me shortly! I said no I’m not going to spend my money here or any Starbucks anymore! I said he has a 1st amendment right to do this and the eyes cannot trespass! I was told by staff and customers that no one F ing cares! Then we left. I went to the guy and told him what transpired. He laughed said he likes me and that he was hired to do video at a peak time for the new Starbucks for promotional purposes! He told me stick around enjoy the show when the cops come 😂 I would’ve loved to but we had to go. Not sure what the new generation is doing! They don’t know their rights and don’t care! Rude staff! I cannot believe they spoke to me the way they did! Silly little girls who don’t know anything!!! Side note the restroom was clean

Super professional manager and staff who smile and offer great drink suggestions. Clean and subdued inside and a good vibe. Coffee was hot and on point.
