"Workers at the popular Snelling and Marshall Avenues Starbucks have closed down the coffee shop’s perpetually busy and controversial drive-thru. A representative for the Seattle-based coffee company called the move a “pause,” but could offer no insight into how long the drive-thru would remain closed while customers are directed to order in-store or over an app. The closure came over store employee objections to a city-mandated police presence. Managed by six to seven off-duty St. Paul police officers hired by Starbucks, traffic requires vehicles to funnel one small entrance/exit off Marshall Avenue, near Snelling Avenue, one of the city’s most-traveled thoroughfares. The pandemic has given Starbucks the opportunity to shift business models, with a focus on more mobile and drive-thru customers. The St. Paul location on Snelling and Marshall is reported to be one of the busiest locations in the state." - Joy Summers

Google
Coffee and service always excellent. But the music is horrendously loud and obnoxious. It mirrors the mental health of our age. Have you ever been to Starbucks in Japan? They play classical guitar or very quiet and relaxing jazz like those cozy you-tube cafe feeds. I long for our coffee culture to mature a little.

Google
Please note: this location no longer has a drive through. The traffic was too much! The interior is comfortable, and the staff do a good job. Now offering beverages to go in compostable cups.

Google
Don’t ever say “no whip” while at this store. The barista with the stash knows what he’s doing! Great service! I’ve always enjoyed this location.

R Mercury

Google
So good that they redid this location and got rid of the drive through. This made the community safer and nicer. This was a good ethical decision by Starbucks. Thank you

Ann Bednarczyk

Google
Always great customer service at this location!! My drinks are always so tasty and made fresh and fast! Always great pastries as well!!

Rose Gehl

Google
Waited 20 minutes for a TEA. had to remind them TWICE that i never got it while they continued to make everyone else’s drinks after me. They didn’t even comp it for me after either lol

Kenneth P. Garnier

Google
Clean venue with wonderful coffee and tasty treats. Nice staff, too!

Google
Good place for coffee, the frozen energy drink I ordered did not get mixed as expected. Overall, I was pretty happy about Starbucks as always.

Gennie L.

Yelp
the service at this location is always great. food/drinks are always prepped on time and the baristas are super nice. my go to is the caramel frappuccino and bacon gouda. although i love the food and drinks, parking is not the most convenient. the lot is quite small and there is no drive-thru. it's also located near a busy street, overall rating: 8/10

Yelp
Needed a caffeine pick me up! Very modern Starbucks found in the heart of this St Paul neighborhood. I got the very last parking spot in the their private parking lot. I got my delish chai tea latte and it was perfectly made. They double lined the cup with another cup. They had a great selection of merchandise and great sale options after the holidays.

Yelp
Quick service, smaller parking, great area. This location used to be a drive through spot (not very well thought out as it's on one of the biggest intersections of Saint Paul's 94-freeway). I digress because they have remodeled this location to include inside and outside dining. They offer mobile pickups and today I inquired about their dog policy and I can confirm I received verbal feedback that as long as you place a mobile order and walk right to the back where the to-go orders sit, you can bring your pup in to grab and go. Note: the dog(s) must be potty trained and have well behaved socialization skills. I have yet to try the new outside back pergola (somehow it's still snowing in April) but I look forward to warmer days ahead. Enjoy!

Scott B.

Yelp
This place is totally gross. The floor is disgusting and they're out of Macha Green Tea at 10am. Who's running this place?

Tisha B.

Yelp
Ok Friends - This coffee drink is a winner!! 3shots blonde espresso Over ice in venti cup Drizzle Carmel Sweet cream! Plus glass ice water Try it. I mean it is fantastic! The lady whom took my order wasn't sure what I was saying - but it turned out just perfect!!! I'll be back, probably tomorrow as I wish I had one right now!!

Amanda H.

Yelp
Garbage in the parking lot. Dirty floors and messy tables inside at 6:30am. All things considered, employees are doing the best with what they have :-)

Yelp
Now, I love Starbucks and am obsessed with coffee but this is by far by least favorite Starbucks. pretty much all the low reviews are true, Parking is limit and annoying mainly because it is small and located in a busy area (near highway 94 too). The drive thru is always a nightmare- pretty much every time I come there are 5 plus cars in front of me- at least a 20 min wait. Because of this I know better and usually wait until the afternoon when it's typically less busy or give myself extra time in the morning when I really want Starbucks since this location is convenient for me. This time it was really slow- mainly because the staff was new. This young blonde girl was working the drive thru and she was kept getting orders wrong. I could hear the cars in front of me asking for the correct total and order. Ofcourse when it was my turn- she forgot to put the whip on my soy caramel frap. I asked her to and she did but forgot the caramel drizzle...when I finally got my drink, she told me to have a good day but didn't hand me back my card...I looked at my sad drink that isn't filled to the top and thought whatever- I already waited 20 mins so I asked for my card and drove off...Urgh who let the new girl work the drive thru?! Btw- my drink was watery.

Jakesa T.

Yelp
This was probably one of the quickest coffee shop drive thrus I've ever been to. So impressed. I was in and out of a long line of cars in about 5 minutes. Starbucks staff are always incredibly pleasant and polite and really want to make sure you get what you came for. I never feel rushed and when I'm stumped, I know they'll help me order something delicious. In this instance, I just ordered a medium coffee with cream and sugar. I'm always a little hesitant and have lower expectations when it comes to having others add cream for me because it's never enough. But I was pleasantly surprised and happy from the first sip to the very last! When I'm in this area I will definitely stop by again!

Kathy M.

Yelp
The moment I drove up to the lot (not even INTO the lot, just UP TO it), this Starbucks started losing stars. As you can see from the other reviews, it's shocking that the city allowed the design of this drive through to get passed.... only because it's a Starbucks! There is barely enough room to enter the lot, then the drive through line blocks the cars parked in the parking lot, then the line goes out onto Marshall Avenue, then you get up to the drive through and make your order... THEN, after having survived all of this... your order is wrong. I quit. Great idea, TERRIBLE execution.

Kat W.

Yelp
Fantastic customer service here! Came just today on a busy Saturday at noon and ordered a green tea Frappuccino. The first one was a little too sweet for me and the baristas took time to explain the changes in the Matcha powder and remade my drink on the spot. I appreciate the time they took and efforts to remake my drink.

Tracey F.

Yelp
I will note, my review is mostly based on service. Starbucks is just Starbucks to me, nothing overly special. The employees here, though, are always so friendly! Went in this morning, and I typically use the drive thru at this location, and I found out it was closed, so parked and went in. I haven't been to this location since the pandemic started and the employees still remembered me and service was super fast, even though there was a small line. Always impressed with service here.

Darren T.

Yelp
A pleasant Starbucks and a decent amount of seating inside. They've converted the drive-thru into an outside seating area with pergola which has more than doubled the outside seating choices. It's disappointing that the drive-thru is gone until a visit, with the realization that Snelling traffic would really snarl the drive-thru and vice-versa.

Shelby S.

Yelp
I know many people give this Starbucks locations a bad rep, but they always make my drinks exactly the way I want. The inside space is relatively quiet/clean. Compared to other Starbucks I think they do a good job. Service is always nice and they know how to make the drinks right. There parking space is limited, and hard to get into and.... yes, the drive thru is always crazy busy. However, they do have the police/traffic control outside most weekends which is helpful. The one time they were not there, there was this super rude guy who kept honking to get into the line. Then someone had let him in from the opposite side and he just sped up and cut everyone else in line... First, time I've seen someone budge a drive thru line. This was pretty annoying because by this point I was waiting a good 20 minutes already.

Josh J.

Yelp
Well, this may come as a shocker but... It's a Starbucks. The brand, if nothing else, is super consistent. They deliver once again. There's a lot of flack about the drive through blah blah... get over yourselves folks. You'll be ok. Yes, it could have been done better. But at this point, no one is breaking out the back hoe to dig up the parking lot. Great service. Great product. Great people watching and ambiance. Corporate definitely invested into the buildout so it's gorgeous inside. Go team. Looking forward to coming back again. If you're reading this, you are now required to visit this store AND pay for the person behind you. Then tell them to pay it forward! We're starting a thing here peeps. #getonboard

Priscilla S.

Yelp
People deserve to get their honey oat milk latte with salted cream cold foam and light ice in peace. People shouldn't have to HARASSED BY COPS in order to get their daily dose. People shouldn't be turned away from the entrance and have police at their car window harassing them, only to send the cars behind them into the entrance. Get rid of the cops... (its not that serious) and get a larger parking lot!

Ash Z.

Yelp
30 min wait in the drive thru for them to give me the wrong drink. I even had to repeat it 4 times in the drive thru. Black iced tea unsweetened. It really isn't a difficult drink at all. Parking lot so full that you can't go back in to get the correct drink. By far the worst Starbucks location I have ever been to.

Lily V.

Yelp
some of the kindest employees, specifically Dan, honestly just so kind and positive! i've never had a bad drink or food either, everything is always made so well! great place to study, sometimes it gets pretty busy though, plus they always have great music. by far my favorite starbucks in the area

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Parking is horrible. It's on a busy corner, the lot has less then 10 spots. Then the drive through loops back through thr lot and uses the same entrance. Very poorly planned. Building is cute. Then you get inside& good luck finding a seat. Students using entire tables. Hit or miss

Alejandro C.

Yelp
Not a problem until it was my turn to pick up the drinks. I was in the bathroom, I heard my name called so I left and couldn't have been more than 30 seconds, so not a big deal I wouldn't think. I look at the two drinks I ordered, one of which said my name on it. I asked, "are these both for Alex?" and then the buzz-cut person behind the counter replies snarkily, "do they both say alex??" i say "uhhhh one of them does." then they just look at me, make eye contact with me, and continues working without acknowledging me. just expect horrible customer service from the person with a buzz cut.

Terri L.

Yelp
This Starbucks is just sad. As the location of the Starbucks, is a public safety hazard as the drive way flows out to the street. Also this Starbucks has made a simple drink wrong. Lucky that corporate is willing to support to fix the mistake. Service is meh. Go to a Starbucks if you need a coffee fix but know that you may have a troubling time to get in n out as it is such a tiny location on a super busy street.

Katherine Y.

Yelp
This Starbucks is kind of a silly waste of space. The drive thru is always closed, and then there's not enough parking for you to actually get out of your car and go in. And the parking that is available always says "5 minute limit," which is silly because you can never actually get your drinks in less time than that. I always tell myself I'll never go back. Maybe this time I'll mean it.

Scott D.

Yelp
Impossible to get in and out of this location even with traffic control provided by the police. Now the employees don't want them around / it's going to be absolute grid lock. Where's the nearest Caribou?

Matt R.

Yelp
Pros - Everyone knows their menu - Outdoor seating if it's nice enough outside - Grab an iced tea to-go and head across the street to Patina - On the confluence of Selby and Snelling in St. Paul Cons - No plug-ins if you're sitting outside - Not too much seating inside. So much of the place is devoted to shelving and their HUGE display case - Parking is along the street only, and there is some competition from other places for those spots. - Possibly hurting the business at Cosmic Coffee up the street on Snelling.

Monica N.

Yelp
I would give this place no stars if I could ! I walked into this beautiful Starbucks excited to get some coffee & a quick bite & never had an issue with ordering like this I'm currently in the shop so disappointed with the service I order my drink and the woman is not even knowledgeable about the drinks there so I was like fine I'll just get another one & then order bacon bites I like them a tad more toasted and made sure to mention that and give me the wrong order and I clarified my order nicely and literally gave me the opposite so I asked politely again and just burnt it I didn't even get to enjoy it I didn't waste my time ugh so disappointed

Jane S.

Yelp
The only starbucks open till 10 pm for ppl working or staying up late. Also the only starbucks in 5 square mile radius.

Martha C.

Yelp
Do something about the Karen's that "doesn't" understand the drive thru lane from the passing lane and pretends to be deaf while we honk at them, stupid bitches! Stop allowing it!!!!

Zainab M.

Yelp
they suck hit or miss, usually a miss. I drive to eagan sometimes because I don't want to deal with them.

Ed M.

Yelp
The parking layout is a disaster. Too few spots, with the added insanity of a drive thru line that either blocks half of those spots or backs up into the lane of travel. At busy times you'll have cars backed three or four deep into Marshall Ave. Hecky naw. Service is just fine. It's a Starbucks.

Danny K.

Yelp
Typical Starbucks. If it was just a walk in store I would give it four stars. But the parking lot design made it worst. Good luck finding a parking spot and good luck getting out of the lot. You would think the person that designed the lot had more knowledge of traffic flow. I would recommend walking to the Starbucks then driving.

Alice A.

Yelp
Conveniently placed on Snelling, great staff, small and cozy, and has bike racks and seating outside for summer.

David C.

Yelp
Pass this sad place on by. There's no place to park. The drive-through is a joke. (Read the many other reviews.) They have to hire a traffic rent-a-cop to try (thoroughly unsuccessfully) to route cars through the needle-eye entrance into the miniature lot. Once inside, the wall-to-walk windows peer out on a street scene with zero eye appeal. Plus the place is filth; there's no concept of a broom or sponge.

Tommy C.

Yelp
Having a drive thru is nice but this is probably the worst drive design ever! You can only enter on Marshall street. They recently closed the exit on Marshall so all traffic must exit thru Snelling. The traffic on Snelling could keep you there forever. Not recommend to use drive thru if you're in hurry.

BB S.

Yelp
The service and drinks are just fine. This has got to be the WORST drive thru I've ever been to. The setup is way too big for such a small lot. And the amount of traffic that goes thru this place makes it absolutely ridiculous to try to get thru. Good luck getting in. Good luck finding a spot to park. Good luck getting out of said spot. Good luck leaving.

M A.

Yelp
I waited forever in a terrible parking lot just to have coffee spilt all over me! It was so hot my reaction was just to take off my jeans. I still have the burn, two weeks later. The worker barely apologized and I had to ask for another coffee and ice. We should not have had to pay yet we did! She didn't put the cover on all the way and it was all her fault. Don't go here!

Benjamin B.

Yelp
This location would get 4 stars if it weren't for the girl taking orders in the drive-thru. Please note there are two people whom work the drive thru...there is the window attendant (taking payment and handing drinks) and the one on the other side of them who is taking the orders. This review is SPECIFICALLY about the girl who is taking the orders. My day is hit or miss and if she is on, it's guaranteed to be a miss. I don't mind that there is a crazy line to get the coffee, I'm one of what seems to be the few intelligent people and order through the mobile app and then pick up in the drive thru. This eliminates the girl from getting my order wrong and also expedites from me having to wait at the window for payment to go through and for my beverage to come to me. I think of it as my little part to the insanely long line...anything to make that beast go quicker. The issue here is that the girl who takes the orders is loud. Like INSANELY loud. She must think that because it's so noisy inside the Starbucks that she needs to compensate by LITERALLY screaming through the intercom. I can be 30 feet away in my car, windows up, radio on and hear her CRYSTAL CLEAR. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back. After she screamed good morning to me and asked me how my day was (and I promise I'm not exaggerating...she is screaming), I recoiled, my temper boiled over and I told her she was being way too loud, it was too early and there was no need as it actually hurts my ears. She then whispered (albeit a stage whisper...) back to me, because...meth (okay now I'm just being mean...). I don't know what her damage is, but it's astonishing that the manager of this place hasn't coached her on her volume and how technology works. I don't want ever anyone to lose their job, but maybe like...don't have her in a position that talks to costumers. Everyone else is amazing and is why I'm giving this place 3 stars and for the line, they really do hustle pretty quickly for that A.M. rush. Do them a favor and preorder on your mobile app while you're waiting in line (Pro Tip: I order when it's 2 cars between me and the car ordering).

Kate B.

Yelp
Besides the total crap parking, one of the better Starbucks. Generally fast with the beverages, and nice people working. Not a ton of indoor seating, but outdoor is great in the few warm months we get. Many fun places to shop and browse nearby (Snelby!).

Mo W.

Yelp
Soooo I pull into drive thru which was backed up to the entrance. Instead of blocking the exit I decide to move forward, more cars come in behind me so I go inside to avoid a jam. I end up waiting for 15 cars to go by and 2 people's order that came AFTER me inside. Don't know if there's some kind of discrimination going on here but I will 100% cause a jam before doing the right thing again for this horribly managed Starbucks.

Chris W.

Yelp
Sadly, this review is not from someone who has actually purchased anything at this Starbucks location. I am now 0/3 on attempts to purchase coffee from this Starbucks location. The drive-through and parking lot are horribly arranged. It is currently 10:30 AM on a Friday. I am unable to park and the drive-through line is four deep. No thanks!

Lauren S.

Yelp
Terrible parking layout. Terrible service. There was some sort of loud ac unit or something near the window of drive-thru so you couldn't hear the barista talk. Then, every time I've been here, some part of my order gets screwed up.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Probably my favorite Starbucks location in the area. I always have fantastic service here. The staff is friendly and always ready to make a joke. My most memorable experience was stopping by after a particularly stressful day in which I had meeting after meeting. I got to talking to the barista and she offered to comp my drink for me to "hopefully help brighten my day", I have never had this happen at a franchised restaurant and was blown away. This location has my utmost loyalty.

Rachel S.

Yelp
My husband and I are visiting from out of town and have been stopping at this Starbucks every morning for the past week. We love it. A girl named Riley "I think" always makes us leave with a smile. She remembers our names and always has a joke up her sleeve. Thanks for making our mornings more fun Riley! P.s they also make our drinks right every time, which can't be said for every Starbucks.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I love this Starbucks. I feel bad for admitting that I love Starbucks, but I just do. Starbucks marketing has conned me into loving the lifestyle that is Starbucks. I'm in, I'm all in. This place is darling, though it is small. I enjoy coming to this one. BUT, a big reason that I like it is because there are a bunch of darling shops in the area that are fun to visit. Also, they have a parking lot, maybe 1/2 a block away. Which is nice.

Dawn F.

Yelp
I find during my work week that this location gets my business at least 1 or 2 times. It's convenient when running errands, and the staff is extremely friendly. The only downside is the size of the shop, as it crowds up quickly. Granted maybe this is a good thing? Just means that the other coffee shops up and down Selby and Snelling will be able to cater to the longer-seated patrons?

Rita S.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to the former baristas that were at the former location, but the new one on the opposite side of the street with Associated Bank and Whole Foods. Anyways, I just wanted to get a "Molten Hot Chocolate" and not the latte version. I swear...the kid behind the counter was either air headed or high! I had to explain to him how to do his job! I should never do that cause I hate it when people tell me how to do my job and they're wrong 100%! As soon as he understood me, some old geezer stood so close behind me and started yelling for an extra cup of water at the kid. I nearly knocked down that old man! Seriously what was that all about?

Calliope D.

Yelp
I stopped into this Starbucks location yesterday and had such a great experience. I usually order the same thing every time I stop into Starbucks and the crew at this location has made it the best yet. Emma was Barista that made my drink and I hope she's working the next time I stop in!

Christine J.

Yelp
Don't bother. This Starbucks has a drive thru despite the fact that there's not sufficient space for one. The result is confused drivers and lanes of traffic which cross each other and parking spaces you can't back out of because of the drive thru line. Additionally, the service is so poor I actually walked out without a coffee because not one of the 4 staff members could be bothered to acknowledge me.

Cody B.

Yelp
Can we give negative stars? EVERY time I have gone to this starbucks since it's been open they have gotten my drink wrong. This time my girlfriend and I went, we both got hot drinks and mine had caramel drizzle. Her drink came out iced and had the caramel drizzle and mine didn't. Every time I asked for an iced drink I get a hot one and vice versa. Figure your shit out baristas.

Azure S.

Yelp
I have to give major credit to the drive thru staff for always being positive and getting people in and out as efficiently as possible. The parking lot layout is a total disaster, but I am greeted every time with a kind person on the intercom and great person at check-out. Despite the time pressure and people annoyingly honking just to add to the chaos, they have gotten my order correct every time. Big thanks to the employees for their hard work!

Annika H.

Yelp
I made the mistake of going through the Drive-Thru line on my way to a friends house to pick us up drinks. I could've just gone inside but the parking lot is so terrible that I couldn't have parked and done that even if I wanted to, it's the epitome of a clusterf***. I wasn't even there at peak hours but I ended up spending over half an hour in the Drive-Thru line. Once I finally got to the window I spent 7 minutes waiting for my order to get ready. Not only this but I realized later that they never gave me my credit card back. I called them later that day to ask them if they had it and they said they would look in the safe and call me back but I never heard from them again. I decided I didn't wanna deal with it so I just cancelled my card and got a new one. My advice would definitely be to avoid this place unless you can walk there.
