Starchild Rooftop Bar & Lounge

This place brought the Christmas/holiday vibe, which was much appreciated. Def more of a drinks place, but the food was also pretty good. I think what we had may have a Christmas specials menu. The cranberry brie pull-apart bread was delicious. Unclear where the walnuts were supposed to be. Also unclear whether there was nuts in the cocoa cookie dip. The dip was quite good, the cookies that came with it were alright. The pretzel was not good, rather dry, but good mustard dip that came with it. Lots of variety in the drinks menu, even some choices of fun mocktails! The spot is also really cool, the roof and windows are just a skylight through which you can see the city. The service was fine, not great but not terrible. Highlight was definitely stuffing myself with cheesy bread.

Me and my fiancé went here while on our anniversary trip to NYC. The ambience and setting is beautiful and you get a wonderful view of the city. The drinks were delicious however the service was slow. We left our seats for a few minutes to use the restrooms and I had left my coat in my seat. Our 2 drinks were at our table and were half full and we had our water glasses there as well. When we returned to our seat our drinks had been taken away which I thought was crazy since I left my coat there and didn’t think it looked like we had left the bar. We let our server know about this and she apologized and brought us 2 more drinks which we greatly appreciated. However, we also asked for our water glasses back and our server never came back. Maybe 10 minutes later another server came by and we asked them for water and they provided it. Overall, we enjoyed our time because the servers were friendly and the drinks and view were great. Only issue was the slow service.

Our server was Sofie and she was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious (Arancini was delicious!!!) and our drink were really special! If you like spicy try the Fever Dreams!!! The jazz band was really nice too! At the end of our evening Derek the manager came to our table to thank us and ask if we enjoyed the evening! We would love to return and will definitely recommend! 5 Stars!

Came on a Friday evening for a drink with my friends. Ordered a bottle of red wine and was not impressed with the wine glass used. I asked for a pepper red wine glass and the service crews kept telling me they ran out of wine glasses. Yet, I kept seeing proper wine glasses coming out of the counter when wines were ordered by the glasses. One of the crew said he’ll get me proper wine glasses when I asked, but nothing happened throughout our stay there. I don’t think it’s acceptable for an upmarket lounge not to have proper wine glasses for serving.

Great view! There is also seating more inside closer to bar. Colder where the view is in the winter, all they have are little heaters but it was okay with a jacket. Music is like a club so be aware of that. But fun vibe could still have a convo. Whipped ricotta was good just expensive for 4 small crusts to dip in it. Our waitress was great

Great View, But Service and Food Need Work Starchild Rooftop has a beautiful atmosphere and a stunning view, but unfortunately, the food wasn’t the best and definitely didn’t match the vibe. It felt like the focus was more on the setting than the dining experience. Also, the service could use improvement—staff seemed a bit inattentive, and it was hard to get their attention at times. It’s a cool spot for a drink or photos, but I hope they put more effort into the customer experience and food quality moving forward.

Unfortunately we would not recommend this place based off of our experience. We ordered 22$ martinis and they came in a plastic martini cup and were something you would find at a college dorm as a random mix sour puss drink. It wasn’t drinkable. We also ordered jellos shots that were not shots and were instead small cubes of jello with zero semblance of having alcohol in them. There was a great view and a good vibe with music tho. So if you are drinking hi balls or beer it would be fine.

This intimate rooftop had eautiful views, a cozy lounge and good dance music. It a midsize spot with two small rooms, two bars and an outdoor patio.

This place has certainly evolved in the year or two that it has been open and I'm not sure what to think about it. For reference, I used to come here a year ago, January/February 2023 and this place was lit! The DJs were playing the latest hits, people were dancing, bottles were flowing, promoters were at every other table, it was a vibe. It was the place to be. And that is no more. Today(a Saturday) I walked in as usual and was met with mellow music and tables of mostly women, only 2 or 3 to a table, clearly looking like a casual meet to catch up over an over priced drink and talk. It wasn't the fun party rooftop I remember being a part of last year and while sure, I might ask a date to take me here now, it seems perfect for couples and girls nights catching up over a cocktail, it wasn't the vibe I expected or wanted on a Saturday night. I'm also disappointed in the service and confusion with menu prices. When I had walked through and finally relegated myself to a drink from the bar I asked for the brut rose which was on the menu for $20, but upon receiving my receipt was actually $25+tax. I was confused and slightly upset, I'm not sure if perhaps it was supposed to be a cocktail and I left out a word that would let them know that (but it was on the menu under the bubbly title so I don't get why they would do that if it was a cocktail?) or what, but I had asked a bartender for it and she replied "okay, just give me a minute" and proceeded to pour multiple drinks in about 5 minutes and then asked a different bartender to serve me. When I received my bill I was surprised, but not enough to cause a scene and fight with a bartender at what has seemingly rebranded itself as an intimate rooftop bar with a very mediocre view, so I paid it and left. I left completely confused and unsatisfied. I felt mislead by the menu prices and utterly surprised at the seemingly sudden vibe switch up. Had I known there was a complete rebrand, I would not have come here and certainly do not plan on coming alone as a single woman ever again. Overall I don't think I would go here again. They left behind the fun party vibe and are now just another "rooftop" midtown bar that serves overpriced drinks.

I came here for my birthday on a Saturday night. I was expecting to find a good crowd, but had an eclectic mix of people and it was kind of empty and very loud. The rooftop had one small area where you could go outside and check out the view. The space was nice, just a bit empty. The drinks were a bit on the more expensive side.

Amazing views, ambiance, indoor/ outdoor seating, sound system, and staff. I had the opportunity to meet the Nightlife Director Stevie and he couldn't have been kinder. Awesome DJ quality (shoutout Chris Bachman!).

Really pretty interior with nice views especially during sunset. The service was friendly and the drinks were delicious. This rooftop is located on top of a hotel. It was pretty quiet and empty on a Friday evening however they have a DJ spinning the beats after a certain hour.

This is definitely the place to go for a perfect sunset view while sipping on drinks. I went on a Sunday evening under a reservation. We were seated pretty immediately. Our waitress took our orders and brought them out pretty fast too. The views are amazing. The drinks themselves are well executed and strong. I wouldn't say they're particularly innovative or aesthetic but they are delicious. The margarita flatbread was yummy, just a tad overpriced. Overall, I would come back again if I'm in this part of town.

This rooftop is completely enclosed so it is nice to be able to get a view even when the weather is not great (it was drizzling when I went and was still able to enjoy the rooftop. The decor is pretty trendy with disco balls and mirrors all over and pseudo fireplaces. I was there earlier in the evening (6pm) so the DJ was not there, but there was a DJ stand set up and I have heard that it can be a fun time later in the night. The drinks were pretty good, but nothing special. Most of their menu is just variations on classics so don't expect to get anything unique or different here. The server took a while to help us when we were first seated, but the service was pretty standard. This is a good place to take friends from out of town for the view and the location, but know that you will be getting pretty standard drinks and service otherwise.

Amazing atmosphere - however, service was very slow and drink menu was limited. I asked for a mojito and they made it with tequila and charged $27... questionable. Amazing sunset tho!

The most stunning view from the sunset terrace. DEFINITELY recommend going here for sunset. Was a little apprehensive to visit when I had seen reviews about rude staff but was super pleasantly surprised to be served by the sweetest girl. She was super patient, gave us excellent recommendations and had a smile on her face the entire time. The food options are limited, go here more for the drinks, the view and the vibe! But if you like truffle, they have some delicious options. If you like sweet coffee, the Llama is the drink for you!!!!

Stunning scenery from above- fabulous view of New Jersey. Good for most of the year round. It's enclosed in glass, including the ceiling.

Ambiance was amazing, staff was so sweet and welcoming! Cocktails were made to perfection. I definitely enjoyed my birthday here.

It was a Friday night and the place was empty. The drinks were awful. They burned going down and not in a good way. There wasn't a menu online. When we got there we saw all the drinks were over $20 and there was little variety. They didn't have the ingredients to make basic things that were off the menu. The food selection is super limited and also pricey. Think nuts, olives, cheeses, meat, and a pizza. The bathroom was filthy. There was poop all over the toilet. The view and decoration are pretty. I go to a lot of rooftops and never was so disappointed before. I don't think I would go back.

This vibey Rooftop Lounge is located on the top floor of the new boutique Civilian Hotel just 5-7 min walking distance to Time Square. Grab a couple cocktails, enjoy the view and go for a night stroll downtown - highly recommend!

This was a great rooftop bar to go out when it's cold outside! We were able to enjoy the city views without freezing. I absolutely loved the interior's decoration and lighting because it made the space feel elevated and intimate. I got the llama and it was pretty unique because it had a scoop of ice cream in it. However, I wasn't blown away by how it tasted. I tried my friend's Nordic gin and tonic, and we found it difficult to drink because we couldn't avoid drinking the pink peppercorn. We didn't think they tasted good so it wasn't very enjoyable to drink. Overall I loved the space and the ambiance but didn't love the drinks.

So awesome. However please rethink your pricing. Ambiance is fab and service is great but no toilet paper in bathrooms. Would honestly rather go to second floor bar which IMO is way better. Matt the bartender is amaze.

I'll be honest, it was ok. The view, 10/10...the service was good once I finally got someone. Made a reservation through Amex concierge, which was recommended (and I'm going to let them know it shouldn't be). I stood at the hostess stand for about 10 ish mins before one of the servers finally helped me. After being sat, it was exactly 19 minutes until I receive a menu and another 10 mins until I got a drink. I agree with other comments, very expensive for the lack of service.

We went for the views, not the service or the drinks, so keep that in mind. The view from the roof was gorgeous. That said, when we arrived for 30-60 minutes of drinks, we were told we needed a reservation to sit anywhere but a small table for 4 (we had 7) all while much of the bar was empty on a Tuesday night - we had tried to make reservations prior to going, however the phone was never answered and there was no opportunity to leave a vm request. Drinks were okay, though not all were available when we ordered - and a vit pricey at $20-$27 each. Again, we knew we were paying for the view. Once seated we were told we couldn't order any snacks on the outside patio, which was a ok to us (we had dinner reservations), however the table next to us on the patio did receive several appetizers. When asked we were not given a clear reason we were not allowed apps and the other table was. Overall, would I go back? For the view, maybe, but the overall experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

Ambiance, expected it to be typical midtown rooftop. Nice view, decent decor. Staff seem very nice and friendly. However this is purely for the drinks and prices. Not sure if they were being nice serving us straight up alcohol but I could barely drink the cocktails they made. Such a sad outcome. I wish I could have just told them this instead of sucked it up and paid the $50 for 2 drinks. Ouch.

I have celebrated my birthday this past weekend at your amazing rooftop! My friends and myself really enjoyed our time! We started with snacks and drinks and everyone mentioned that the food was so delicious, especially Pretzels with honey mustard sauce and lobster rolls! Good quality drinks, I ordered Spicy Encounter cocktail! The staff is very friendly and helpful ! After 10pm the DJ came in and we enjoyed the music, loungy and relaxing atmosphere and danced the night away! Highly recommend spot for group of friends who enjoys dancing, chill vibes, good music and skyline views!

Had a great time at Starchild rooftop bar. It is on the small side which was perfect for me. The bartender Brandon was great and the drinks were so delicious. The music was fun, views were nice. All around great place to have a nice cocktail and dance. The disco bathroom was so much fun and an unexpected surprise.

Great views and ambience. Really enjoyed hanging out on the terrace. Try to get a table outside before sunset.

We are staying at the Civilian Hotel, and last night (a Thursday) after the show, we thought we'd stop up at Starchild for a nightcap and bite. The place wasn't busy, and we were seated immediately. It took at least 5 minutes for anyone to come greet us (she and a couple of other servers were standing around chatting and watching the tv). We ordered drinks and wanted to order food and she informed us the kitchen had closed at 10pm. I do not see this noted anywhere on the menu or online, so I was very disappointed. The lemon drop I ordered was mediocre (with 3 ingredients I can never understand why so many bartenders can't make this), and the slow service had us regretting our choice. While it's an interesting and eclectic look, the style and music being played didn't seem to fit with the old Broadway feel of the hotel. Maybe another day, things would be better, but we weren't impressed.

A beautiful rooftop bar, the staff is sweet and friendly. The drinks was decent and in-term of snack/food options there was not really much option available on the menu. The inter design of the bar is gorgeous. The best time to come here is during sunset where you can see the city view from the outside roof. The cocktail price is a bit expensive but reasonable for the location.

Door man tried to scam me. When I refused he tried to act like he did a favor. All about the view to be honest.

While the space is absolutely beautiful and the music was good, the drinks were undrinkable. They were out of the ingredients for a few of the drinks. And then we ordered the margarita which tasted like it was half a glass of lime juice.

Had a great experience throwing our team's holiday party here in December. We bought out the whole thing and found the entire staff great to deal with, especially their event coordinator Jennifer. Day of went perfectly! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Because my reservation to Rosevale cocktail lounge was mishandled. The fault of the staff at the Rosevale. My party and I were switched to the Starchild. Which should probably be renamed the Stepchild. After slow service and a server who didn't know the difference between red or white wines, the drinks were over priced and undrinkable. The food was another let down. What we could order had an unfrozen and left under a heat lamp until served to us taste to it. If that's the experience that they were going for then they nailed it. But I'm pretty sure the experience my party had last night was the norm and Stepchild(Starchild) needs to do better.

Drinks were good, but very pricey. DJ was playing throw back hits which was a nice change from all the house music played everywhere else. 3 stars because the door guys were very pushy for our group, tried to convince us to do a 500$ minimum bar tab - didn't include a table or anything so confused as to why this was pushed so hard. We said no, and they lowered to 300$ and the group really wanted in so we accepted. I've never been to a regular bar in NYC that had a bar minimum. I've been to rooftop bars with better views and less pushy bouncers, I won't be back.

Starchild offers amazing ambiance and beautiful views of the city. I had a great time! I mainly want to say thank you to all of the employees of Starchild who helped me once I realized I had lost my wallet. They made me feel comfortable while I was in panic mode and assured me that it would be okay. Sure enough, they did have my wallet and I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. I am so grateful to all of the wonderful staff members who made me feel better and had my wallet returned to me safely. The customer service alone makes me want to go back to Starchild next time I'm in NY. Thank you Starchild!!!

The view is stunning. That's the best I can say about this over-priced disorganized train wreck. The insult of a $30 martini in a less than generous glass is made worse by a well-meaning staff has no idea what they're doing. How do I know this? They didn't have any ambient music on so I could hear every word they said. If you want cocktails with beautiful views from a rooftop, go to The Press Lounge at the Ink 48 Hotel a few blocks west. Starchild is a brat.

Was looking for a nice little spot to enjoy some drinks with a good view and the pictures online made it seem like the perfect place for that. However after taking the elevator up you could hear the blaring music before the doors even opened. After stepping out I proceeded to the hostess stand to help direct me and tried to ask if it was open seating. She hostess seemed very irritated that I would ask her that and just rudely gestured toward the rest of the room as if my question had an obvious answer. The patio was already super packed so I couldn't even go outside to really see the view. Inside it was very dimly lit and very loud. I am all for some good music usually, but this music was so loud you basically had to scream so that the person next to you could hear you. The drinks were good, but waaaay too overpriced for what they were. Not worth it at all.

Perfect atmosphere! Definitely a good vibe. Good music decent priced drinks. Michael our bartender was the best! I recommend the Spicy Encounter very spicy!

As a fashion model living in NYC, being able to relax and indulge is also important to me. And i must say, this place nailed it. I went with my partner, and she also had a great time. I forget our server's name but she was just so sweet and helpful. Not to mention the food was delicious and the views are just incredible. Thanks Starchild rooftop!

Had high hopes for this be based on other reviews but we did not have a good experience primarily because the music was way too loud and we waited almost ten minutes to get in the elevator to leave.

I felt like I was in a dream, not even joking. it was dimly lit, surrounded by the skyline, Tribe Called Quest was playing, there's a digital fireplace that's basically like the real thing. drinks were expensive so it's not a place to "get lit." just one cocktail and vibes. *** after 10pm the main room turns into "bottle service only" so you do need to get there earlier to enjoy the ambiance. it's worth it.

The food was good, very limited though but they never claim to be a restaurant. Ambiance is relaxing until 1030pm. I was very disappointed in the fact that we were told our table was only an hour because of a private party coming in at 10, and this was after we waited for a table after getting there on time. If I would've known this ahead of time I would've booked the table for an earlier time. We were rushed out of there. We ended up going to the bar which had good views of the city. I don't think I'll be returning.

tried coming in to see what this place was all about but we couldn't even get inside. hostess was acting snobby and above everyone, didn't even acknowledge us after we had already stood in line waiting for her to come down. she was hugging her friends who were leaving the establishment. to the girl in the ugly olive green dress with ugly white boots, working the front door, you lost your job money . will never come back

the views are beautiful but the security is rude and unpleasant for this place they like to be rude to women especially.

I came to this place on a whim. I was shocked by not only the service, but the camaraderie provided by the staff. I wasn't in the highest of spirits, but the atmosphere immediately put me in a place of ease. Imani, the manager, was not only an amazing bar tender, but a force and spirit that is unmatched. I'm following, staying tuned, and returning.
