The Best New Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"The local food heavy hitters at Travail partnered up with the creative mind of James Beard Award 2024 semifinalist Robb Jones of Meteor Bar to open a dreamy, intimate cocktail bar in Northeast. Customers can explore the constellation-themed menu accessed by QR code, which lays out the different beverage and small-plate options like mini corndogs; there’s wine, cocktails, and n/a beverages for any palate. Try the Quina’s Cobbler made with the herbaceous Patagonian spirit Träkál, slightly sweet and bitter Byrrh quinquina, berries, lemon, and a whisper of star anise. Stargazer doesn’t take reservations, but there are plenty of bars nearby if you find there’s a wait (including a few on this list)." - Natalia Mendez

I really enjoyed my recent visit to Stargazer. I don't know how they're making money on the food. My wife and I had a delicious self-guided multi-course meal with their apps/small plates. The cocktails were delicious. Almost as good as mine :), but their Variety far exceeded what's available at my house. Cocktail pricing seemed about right to me considering the high quality ingredients. A standout moment was when a bartender heard us talking about the two Mezcals on offer and came over and talked to us about the options and their origins. Really elevated the experience. Favorite drinks were the Copitas and Seasonal Sidecar, fave food was the fried chicken.

Definitely speakeasy vibes with the fact that you almost completely miss it while walking past. When we entered, there was a velvet rope to keep us in the entryway and separate while getting ID’d. My friends and I went in the evening while the sun was still up, so we didn’t get the full experience with the darkness and stars on the ceiling. I would say it’s definitely not worth checking out unless you go at night. The menu is ridiculous, they’re trying too hard and it results in taking way too long to navigate to find what you want. You scan the QR code and it pulls up this constellation format with all the drinks in categories. Drinks were overpriced for how average they were, but the corndogs were delicious. Our server was also stand-offish and rude, I probably won’t be back.

Blink when you’re walking by and you might miss it but you’ll be sorry you did because it’s a fun place to check out. You’re stopped at the door by a velvet rope until your ID is checked. First come, first sat. We chose to sit at the bar and Isaiah made helpful suggestions from the menu (click around or head to the list if you want) and made us some tasty drinks. With the starry ceiling and attentive staff, it’s a great place to chill and enjoy your cocktail. We’ll be back!

Wow, this bar is really excellent!! The amazing drinks, the delicious small bites, the incredible vibe… truly a delightful experience. My partner took me here as a fun date night and we had a great time. Not only was the atmosphere amazing with the starry lights and themed menu, but the service and drinks were also exceptional. When we arrived on a Thursday night there was about a 30 minute wait to be seated, as it is a smaller space. However, we were able to place our name on the list and we were texted as soon as they were ready to seat us. Once you are in the bar, you scan the QR code they have available to view the drink and food menu on their web app. I was impressed because this web app works pretty well and is quite fun. The menu is presented as if each section is its own constellation (e.g. “botanical cluster”, “fruit nebula”, and “spirit free sector”), that you initially view as a “galaxy” and which you can click to zoom in or out of. You can also view the menu as a list in the app if this type of map functionality is not your preferred menu experience. Further, their menu was extensive and every drink we tried was awesome. During my visit, I counted in total 47 different cocktail options (not including their N/A options), which is a very impressive selection! My favorites were the “Infamous” cocktail which I tried and the “Crockett’s Theme” which my partner ordered. This said, all the drinks we tried were so delicious, well-balanced, and high quality that I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. Plus, our server was always happy to help offer suggestions or answer questions if we weren't sure what to try next. And not only were the drinks incredible, but the small bites they offered were also delicious. I highly recommend the salt & pepper chicken oyster if they have it on the menu—this was so good, my spouse and I were still talking about it on the drive home. On top of the exceptional food, drink, and service, the atmosphere is in a league of its own! It is truly a beautiful space which transports you into an astrological paradise. It's dark and moody, but also comfortable and inviting. I should also mention that their bathrooms are very fun too! I read something about this in another Google review so this became a running joke with my partner that we need to check out the bathrooms. Both of them are actually decorated differently and they are pretty cool so that reviewer was totally right and I appreciate their insights 😁 The one I visited kind of reminded me of Tron, and I think the other one has spaceship buttons. This further shows how the consistency and care put into the space as a whole is truly unmatched, and I felt totally immersed from the moment I walked in the door. If you are looking for an elevated cocktail experience with a unique theme, served with true care for the craft, Stargazer is the place for you! This cocktail spot is absolutely awesome, and I highly recommend checking it out for your next special date night.

5 of us went to Stargazer at about 6pm on a Wednesday night and we got a table right away. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of large tables or space for larger groups, but I didn’t look too hard. It’s fairly small but a lot of nice seating around the bar as well. Upon entering there’s a rope to stop you from coming all the way in until you show your ID. I had a spirit free drink and it was really good. A girlfriend of mine asked for a dirty martini and ended up getting a second. She was not told ahead and was surprised to see that she was up-charged $8 for them. Maybe because they are off the menu?? We ordered truffle corn dogs as a little appetizer before going somewhere else for dinner. The corn dogs usually come as two, but the servers/kitchen were nice enough (and without us even asking) to split it all up so that each of us could have a try and without having to cut it up. The menu was kinda hard to understand with how funky it reads, but that’s the point and it was fun to figure out! The server gave us a lot of good recommendations, answered all of our questions, and was very patient. The vibe is great here. I do recommend it and hope to come back soon!

I can see the hype, this place is pretty neat with the ceiling stars setting the mood. Parking can be a bit terrible and sometimes there’s a line that I don’t think is worth it. Overall if you can get in cool, but not sure I’d want to stand in line due to no reservations for a drink.

Google
As a Travail Stan - this hurts me to write. This place is trying WAY too hard. A drink menu with 53 cocktails on some weird interactive star menu map that would take me an hour to click through and read?? Come on. The food is excellent - but the atmosphere and drinks are trying to be too pretentious and niche. If you do end up here, pls try the beef tartare !!

Stopped by on a Fri night, the line was only about 10 mins so got lucky The menu is a QR code you scan at the entrance Overall the bar is cute but a little underwhelming than I thought it would be!! Drinks were good but spendy and service was really good Small - comparable to bars in Vegas I would say Nice that Minneapolis is finally getting some cool bars Non reservations walk in only

Yelp
These bartenders know their sh*t! Appreciate the great drinks. Will be back when in town!

Yelp
Stargazer is a place that I was excited about the second I saw it was coming to the Twin Cities. The outside of the bar makes it easy to miss but it also gives it a cool speakeasy vibe. When we walked in we were made to show our ID's and then sat at the bar. I didn't love that the only place their menu QR code was as soon as you walked in the door. The interior was dark and celestial! I loved the vibe of the bar. It is very small with limited seating and no reservations so we went on a weekday so we didn't have to deal with a crowd. I expected the food menu to be a little bigger. Not full on meals but a couple more fun tapas. The only thing that really jumped out to us was the ceviche. Personally I would give it a 6/10. I felt like it could've used a little more flavor. It was great once you put the hot sauce on it but I want it to be great on its own. The little bottle they give you is super cute though. Every drink we had was great! My drinks were Boogie Nights & Pina Verde. I expected the Boogie Nights to be a tiny bit sweeter but it was still very good! Very well balanced and light. The Pina Verde was great! I loved it. I feel like rum really overpowers a lot of coladas for me but I didn't feel that way with this one. My boyfriend enjoyed his two drinks but I don't think he was wowed by them. The drinks are quite pricey to be honest. Definitely somewhere I would only come for one MAYBE two drinks. Especially if you're also getting food. We loved the playlist they had going too!!! Overall we enjoyed Stargazer. I think it's gorgeous and they have fun unique ideas. I wish the food was a little more extensive and exciting but what we had was still good.

Yelp
I wish I could give this spot 100 stars! Everyone needs to go to Stargazer asap! It has the BEST vibe. The music, lights, intimacy. Everything was so well done. Bartenders were helpful and energetic. They have 50 unique cocktails, so there's something for everyone! Definitely order the corn dogs. Prepare to wait in line, or put your name on the wait list and stop at another spot nearby if needed. Either way, it's definitely worth the hype! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Fantastic spot for a cocktail and snacks! Seating is limited with no reservations. You're likely to be put on a waiting list, but the bar is in an excellent area with plenty other places to kill time. Parking can be tricky - only street parking. Things I especially love: - Cocktails are excellent. I was impressed with the selection. There are quite a few NA beverages too! - The space! The ceiling is the best part. - The unique menu - you get it through a QR code. But if technology's not your thing, they have paper menus too. - The bathrooms! No spoils, just check them out.

Yelp
Heard about this place from a friend and got to go withing the first week of it opening. Easy to find but you'll have to find street parking. Its first come first serve and I happen to be there at just the right moment cause I got a seat at the bar after waiting maybe 10 minutes. The place is small and intimate, was told it seats about 40. All blue lighting when I walked in and was there til bar close when all the lights turned red and they played the imperial March from star wars which was really cool. You scan the menu with your phone and it was like looking at constellations and different stars had different things from the menu. I loved that way, kind of an adventure when ordering. Got a couple drinks and tried the salmon on a stick. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food and drinks came out quick and had a great experience overall. Will definitely be going back soon!

Yelp
The ambiance here is next-level -- feels like you've stepped into a space movie. Super creative cocktail menu with lots to choose from. The drinks themselves were good (not mind-blowing), but the vibe alone is worth coming back for.

Yelp
They have the small plates tuned in. All were great. The prickly pisco was great. The white lady is always a good one. The bar is so classy, yet casual and comfortable. It takes me to a different decade.

Yelp
We went to check out this new bar that opened in NE Minneapolis. The ceiling is full of stars, the pictures looks pretty cool too. No reservations however there is a waiting list, this place does get full pretty quick. Great location near other restaurants and street parking. Their menu is uploaded onto the phone by scanning the code. Then you can tap into each sections to see what types of cocktails they make and even foods. The bathroom was actually something to check out. It looked like a space ship with the buttons on the side, so I pushed every button and turned all the switches, the siren came on and we panicked. Eventually the siren turned off and the staff said it's all for fun. Would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Finally got to check out this cool new vibey speak easy bar in north east. It truly feels like you're stepping into space, the lighting is perfect for a date night. The drinks did not disappoint, we also ordered a couple apps: the salmon, corn dogs. Pretty good service for the most part although they seemed a little busy. Be sure to check out the bathrooms they are a must see.

Yelp
Service & ambiance were great! Tried this right after Young Joni around the corner. What a great spot.

Yelp
Super fun environment and great friendly service specifically from Parker. Drinks are phenomenal and the food is affordable and delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
What a cool fun bar. Stargazer is a small bar in NE Minneapolis. We were lucky to get a table for four. Go early. If there aren't tables available, you need to wait at the front entrance until a spot opens up. You get to order your drinks from your phone. There are different constellations that you can choose from. I didn't recognized most of the liquors in the drinks, but the staff was helpful in describing them to you. Again, lots of cool vibes. It's definitely more of a cocktail bar than resturant. Enjoy your time there!

Scott M.

Yelp
Service/door staff not very friendly. What more can you say when denied entry while establishment is half empty and many seats at the bar were wide open at 5:00 on a Saturday. Seems like a poor business model to turn away a group of interested patrons. Wish them well but will not attempt to return.

Fifi B.

Yelp
The drinks were amazing! Our bartender was a sweetheart and we enjoyed her service as she gave ideas on what "sweet drink" I should get. The host upfront was a bald white guy who was a bit annoying, understanding that it's a dark bar, people are going to want to take a picture of the place/ the food and drinks with or without flash. It's normal. He kept on going up to everyone asking to be considerate of the flash as it may bother other people.

Sophie K.

Yelp
Menu was a bit confusing. Concept was cool but a little off the mark with the menu and service. We were there a little later, so had to wait in line. Felt a little rushed but other than that the service was great.
