Pistol Whip Will Be Replaced By A New Casual Fine Dining Restaurant After Five Months | Eater Denver

"Owned by Rick Carney in Durango, Moe’s Starlight Lounge is a business he largely stepped back from as he mostly retired, but the opportunity to open Blue Pebble has brought him out of retirement to take a more active role again." - Paul Albani-Burgio

We are on vacation and enjoyed our time in this bar, chatting with locals and the bar tender. The drinks were cheap and the music was great. It was nice to sit in the open windows looking out on to the street and to see the sights and sounds of downtown Durango. But it was the bartender who really made our visits enjoyable. I am sorry I didn't get his name but he's from Chicago and he was a really warm and friendly guy who made us feel relaxed and welcome. Our thanks to him.

Google
Best bar in Durango hands down. They offer a diverse array of drinks paired with a variety of events throughout the week. The bartenders take their job seriously and are very friendly. As an out-of-towner I never feel like a tourist here. Wonderful place with a wonderful crowd. Props to Andrew for being a killer bartender. <3

Bartender was super chill and the vibes were certainly there. Place is a vibe.

Was my first time coming here and it was a great experience. The place was clean and the bartenders were fast at making drinks so we didn't have to stand in long lines. They played good dancing music also. It got pretty busy after 11pm and the people we met were very friendly, prices were also reasonable. I loved that they had an outside patio lit with disco and Christmas lights, it provided great atmosphere. Outside patio access also allowed for smoking if you are a smoker. We will definately be coming back on future trips.

Google
Excellent bar, inclusive, cheaper and nicer than others after like 10pmish. They're open until like 2am, so the bartenders got no place to be for awhile around 10:30pm, like another three in a half hours.

Went to the every Monday Comedy night for the first time. Good and relatively inexpensive drinks. Decent finger food. Variable comedy, but an A for effort!

Google
Lawd! Thought new owner would have a bit more of a “new” outlook. Changing of tables and. Curtains. Awesome! But smoking or allowed of any type of smoking. Naaaa turn off. Smoking, smell of weed. Is a no go for me. Yea. Can we actually make a “change” time will tell. I’ve given this place many chances as a local. Candles burning with intimate booths great start but letting whomever inside is “ummm”

Google
Great place to catch really good local musicians on Tuesday nights. Open mic starts at 8.

Yelp
Odd place, but I loved the vibe. We were there when they opened on a slow holiday weekend, and so we were the only ones there (at that point anyway). Bartender was super cool. Ping Pong table in the back of the bar is awesome, but seems like it would be a pain when they are busy (also because I suck at pinball) I would come back.

Yelp
Horrible experience would not take vertical ID told us we were too straight to enter a bar. Just wanted to sing a few songs on karaoke night didn't work out. Maybe next time make sure me and my party has id's that are horizontal even though they are not expired.

Yelp
I usually enjoy going into starlight but the short skinny security guard with the mustache and usually a hat with the bill curled up has consistently ruined the experience every time. He is awful and makes me not want to go to starlight anytime he is working

Yelp
Four 50-somethings from Louisiana came in for one drink with me while we waited for a dinner table next door. Open mic night for amateur comedians started before we got the drinks. Drinks finally came when text arrived that table was ready so we walked next door with the drinks (well, just two of us did). This is totally normal in New Orleans!! The very rude bartender accosted my friend on the way out. He didn't explain the rules; he grabbed a 59 year old woman and pushed her out the bar! These women were guests of ours in our Durango condo. I am so embarrassed by this treatment. We will advise all of our guests and renters against the Starlight Lounge. Awful service. Unfunny comedians.

Yelp
2.5 stars... Waiting for a table next door and popped into this joint for a brew... Good selection of local brews and a full bar for my bride...something for everyone! Nice bar, gaming tables, and good location... the only drawback was the lack of AC, and in a town like this...it gets HOT! I'd come back in cooler weather because I like this joints vibe, but at first glance it does not make the list..

Yelp
This place saved our evenings in Durango! Back patio is open with ample social distancing, bar snacks (we had the fries and potstickers), a decent selection of whiskey, a nice ambiance, super friendly staff and great music. Amidst the COVID restrictions we were very happy to find a place that was serving drinks in an outdoor space. Glad we were able to support a local business!

Yelp
The horse gravy was delicious and gave me unbridled joy. Definitely also try the horse French Dip

Yelp
Nice bartender and vibe. Felt like a nice place. Both the cook and bartender were very accommodating and friendly. Great place to stop for a drink with appetizers.

Yelp
This is probably my first review, I've been here a handful of times as a local, one thing that just doesn't do it for me is the curtains as doors in the femmes restroom. That is my only complaint for now

Yelp
There's no way I would have known about this place (or gone in) had it not been for a comment scrawled in the guestbook of the hostel where I stayed in Durango - "Don't miss Moe's for dirt(y) cheap martinis!" Martinis? Cheap? I'm there. My roommate and I had been wandering around the town with no plans. We had a day to kill and knew no one in town. Solution? Drinking. However, the night was filled with problems. Problem #1: This place has the most epic martini menu I've ever seen. We're talking about at least five pages of martini options, and they're split into beginner, intermediate, and advanced. A beginner martini would be your average gin martini. Intermediate martinis introduce different liqueurs and interesting add-ins. Advanced martinis? Vodka, beer, and a cigarette. Yes, a cigarette in the martini. Oof. This resulted in the mixing of much liquor and at least 10 minute window after each martini in which I picked what to drink next. Problem #2: Durango is at a much higher altitude than, say, Washington, DC. Result? Lowered tolerance. Problem #3: Lowered tolerance + above average alcohol consumption + impromptu salsa lessons on their back patio (ongoing!) Oh, the churning! Problem #4: Everyone in Durango is so damn friendly. Within 20 minutes we'd become best friends with the bartender, taken mysterious green shots (the contents of which I still do not know), and been told exactly where to go, what to do, and who to meet. As a result we ended up spending three days in town instead of one and spent solid chunks of time drinking, barbecuing, lazing in the sun, rafting on the Animas River, and generally having the best time of our lives. Oh, and these aren't $9 martinis. They're in the realm of $5. And if they ever run their special mango-jalapeno martini again, make sure you order at least three for me.

Yelp
I was in Durango on business and just finished dinner at Carver Brewery and decided to walk across the street to Moe's. Its a great bar with plenty of room, great bar tenders, great music, and great beer selection. Also shout out to Rick the head dishwasher there. Can't say enough great things about this place and its owner. Keep up the great work!

Yelp
They had the worst service I've ever experienced. My friend and I waited at the bar for 30 minutes and had not received any service. The bar tenders had seen us but they were serving people that had came up after us. So it makes me question if this establishment is lgbt friendly.

Yelp
This place is trash. It's filled with drunken creepers. There were so many overly intoxicated men that should have been cut off by the bartenders 4 drinks ago. They would not stop bothering my table of friends and making unwanted sexual and crude advances. Additionally there was man who was literally smacking around a girl while she was crying. Reported to this the "bouncer" who did not kick the guy out because he didn't see it happening with his own eyes. Needless to say I will never return here. Don't go here. It's horrible.

Yelp
Stopped in during happy hour on Friday, the well drinks were great, and we also ordered the potstickers and pork carnitas which were excellent. They also had a free nacho bar! Can it get better than that?! Also the bartenders were super nice.

Yelp
I have been to Moe's multiple times with friends and it was an OK bar. A little too crowded and noisy for my taste and the drinks are mediocre. On St. Patrick's Day my friends and I decided to go to Moe's to have a good time. The bouncer denied my federal tribal ID even though I had gotten in before with that ID and the bouncer was so rude! He refused to give an explanation about why he wouldn't accept my ID and practically laughed in our faces when we were clearly upset. Then he refused to give us his managers name and info so we could talk about it. Very disappointing but honestly you could find better quality drinks and service in Durango. NOT WORTH IT.

Yelp
Some of the bar staff are competent bartenders (namely Nicole and Eddie) but outside of that the bar is relatively poor pretending to be a classy nightclub. Other than the two bartenders previously mentioned the rest of the staff is barely knowledgeable enough to pour a beer let alone make a mixed drink. If you have any interest in enjoying the primary product of a bar (aka an alcoholic beverage) I would seriously recommend that if you are not being served by the previously mentioned two bar staff that you get up, and leave. There are many more bars in Durango that offer a better experience and atmosphere than the risky chance of getting a drink that is made by the equivalent of a chimpanzee.

Yelp
Dive-y bar. Not too crowded. Cheap. Friendly people. Add alcohol, and it's the happiest place on earth for the moment. :) I think there's a pool table or a ping pong table. I can't remember!

Yelp
Went on New Year's Eve! Bartenders were awesome! Very personable, attentive, and entertaining. Music was great too!

Yelp
Moe's does awesome in regard to beer! They have great specials and everything is reasonably priced. Our ticket came out to $22 for five beers. The inside of the bar has TVs, bar stools, a ping pong table, couches, and chairs next to windows so you can look out on Main Street. There is also a patio out back. I wasn't able to try their food, so I can't rate them on that! As far as beer goes - great place to relax, have a beer and watch sports. Oh, and the bartender and server were on the ball! Super nice and sociable. The bartender recommended some great hiking spots for us!

Yelp
Great bartenders especially. It's a great club with lots of local music. Looks like they always try to improve it with something different. It's a pretty relaxed atmosphere!

Yelp
This is the place to be in Durango. Cheap beers, and fun atmosphere. Bartenders were on their game last night. Poured 44 drop shots without ignoring everyone else. Cool outdoor dance area with a stage for bands.

Andrew R.

Yelp
Extremely crowded which can usually be great but the bartender completely ignored my party (of tourists) for over 20 minutes. Once she served us, took all of our change and tipped herself (she stole from us.) She didn't even give it back to us just put it in her tip jar and blatantly ignored us until we confronted her about it. She then continued to yell at us and kick us out of her bar. Watched her be blatantly rude to multiple people throughout the night. Short fair skinned girl with brown hair. She should be fired immediately.

Yelp
I am creating an account just to review this bartender. I feel like I need to share these encounters because this woman, Nicole, is quite literally THE absolute worst bartender I have ever come across. No people skills (for those she clearly doesn't seem worthy) and absolutely no bar tending skills (again, for those unfit of a quarter of a decent drink). If a negative star rating was possible, that is what I would give. I have no idea how/why she was ever hired because her drink making skills are minimal and her ability to take payments for her sub-par drinks is non-existent. I have been here multiple times (I love the bartender Eddy), EVERY single time she's there it takes 20+ minutes to grab her attention, even with one or two other people in the bar.. She very clearly prioritizes her clients and who she serves based on who she knows and who she thinks is worth her time, then leaves the rest to either twiddle their thumbs waiting insane amounts of time (during which she directly will look you in the eye and intentionally ignore you), or walk out the door in frustration. In one circumstance I asked her to remake a drink I had watched a newer employee make with less than a shot of alcohol (margarita) to which she replied "this only works once, watch it." Nicole is, without a doubt, the worst and most overrated bartender in Durango.

Jared S.

Yelp
Whether you are from Durango or just visiting an looking for a night out Moe's is a must stop. Stocked with live music outdoor setting, go to Moe's an make some memories.

Preston S.

Yelp
Awesome bartenders! Cheap drinks. Ping pong. Enough said.

Krystina W.

Yelp
Best Bar in the world and I'm from California! I had an amazing time. Skyler! Seriously what an amazing bartender! Great service!

Yelp
Love the new additions to the place. Theyve got a Great Staff, fun drinks, an impressive whiskey stock, and a small but delicious food menu. And when that group of aussies come into town, its definitely the place to be

Yelp
Great place to let loose. Good drink specials and great atmosphere! My band (Uncovered) has played there 3 times and we will come back anytime! You need to go check it out if haven't already!!
