"It’s common knowledge among coney followers that there are two distinct styles of coneys in Michigan: Detroit-style and Flint-style. While the chili used for Detroit-style coneys is often described as being more tomato-based, Flint-style is described as more of a drier, loose meat sauce that sits on top of the hot dog (usually sourced from Koegel’s Hot Dogs) and differs only slightly in flavor, depending on the type of spices used. Starlite Diner is among the longtime coney-centric establishments of Flint, founded in 1966. Here, guests can order a coney served with fries and slaw, breakfast combos, and a broasted chicken for dinner." - Serena Maria Daniels

Google
Cool looking, VERY retro dinner. The food was very good and the prices were fair. However, the wait just to order and pick up the food using the drive through was beyond terrible. I got there pretty late and it didn't seem that busy to me. Then, I was given the wrong order. If you do go, be sure to order the food INSIDE the restaurant.

Google
I've been visiting Starlite since I was a child. I love the breakfast options and their burgers and coney dogs. The customer service has always been great, and the atmosphere is old-school, yet cozy. They are always pretty busy, but the food is made to order, and it comes out pretty quickly. Definitely recommend trying.

Casimir VanderKuur

Google
Amazing food and service. Prices have gone up a lot lately, my only real complaint is the Coneys are now 4$ a piece which seems a bit much considering, but they are certainly the best Coneys in the State so worth it if you love em. Try their Broasted Chicken Dinner. Best fried chicken 🍗 I've ever eaten in my life.

Cody Ranger

Google
Old school dinner, good food. Really good food actually. Just very busy overworked staff for how many people come thru. They have everything and fairly good prices as well Would recommend it fo sho!

Nicole Corzine

Google
The prices are kinda high, and they aren't open late anymore..so we don't eat here as much as we used to. One coney is $4 now lol. The food is still pretty good usually. Be prepared to be patient in the drive thru.

Michael Vermeesch

Google
Probably the best Flint-style Coney you can get. Food was fresh, service was fast. Highly recommend.

Google
Starlight is Frozen in Time..... It's the go to place for many years for me. Late-night visits early morning visits they're always open and have great food!! My favorite cook, Matt, just passed away and he will be missed!! If you're in the area I recommend you stop in. 🥞🍳🥓🥩🍗🍔🌭

Google
Food was good. Had the goulash special with salad and garlic toast.

Yelp
Great service! Gluten free items this is my favorite place to visit when I visit family

Charles K.

Yelp
Food sucks. Service ok .cook has big attitude and don't cook to order . Ambiance is missing from time you enter building

Yelp
Prepare for an adventure! I regret not taking a picture of the 1950s era sign. This place has been here a long time and is populated with locals. Pouring rain and packed. I wanted to try their breasted chicken but it is apparently a 25 min wait. So, I went for chicken and homemade waffles. The waffles were very much replicas if what you would make at a hotel buffet: heh--I like those. The chicken fingers came with a huge bowl of ranch dressing. Log cabin syrup: I got excited until I noticed it was 100% corn syrup (but none of it is high fructose) and no flavoring added (including no artificial flavors). This place is the real deal: a fellow diner approached me, unsolicited, to report on the waiting line at the emergency room. This is NOT a place for gourmets and foodies, but for the adventurers who want fast service and local color. Clean.

Bob K.

Yelp
If you love a good coney, this is a Place to come. There's a lot of stuff on their menu, but I personally love the flint Coney. The wait staff is a little bit is brass, but I think that comes with the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's an old school diner vibe. Oh. Totally worth checking out.

Mandi H.

Yelp
Classic Diner Burger $36 for 2 people 2 drinks 6pc mozzarella sticks Sm order of onion rings 2 Pancakes w/side of bacon Burger w/mayo, mustard, cheese, light lettuce, tomato (all the toppings expect cheese were extra) It's classic dinner food

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
Love the one on center rd always fast and friendly good food great service thanks so much!!!!!

John M.

Yelp
Five star old school burger joint. Been here as long as I can remember. When in the Flint area, a stop at Starlite is always on the menu for our family. A burger, a coney dog and some onion rings were just what I needed today.

Donald A.

Yelp
Visiting my Aunt and we had take out form here. Good burgers for a good price. The place was clean and the people were very friendly. They even offered me a drink while I waited for my order to be prepared. Do not live in the area but always go when we visit. I will be back. Great place for good food.

Rebecca R.

Yelp
Starlite is my go-to for breakfast in this area - I've never had a bad meal here - plus, the waitstaff are attentive and fast!!

Felicia C.

Yelp
Starlite barely needs a review- everyone knows it and loves it. I will say it's not as good as it used to be- but what is since COVID? The ranch remains the same- so that's all I really care about. I do wish the pizza sticks would've remained what they started off as. Grilled chicken pita isn't very good anymore sadly- but overall this is a Flint establishment that will continue to get my business even through their inevitable changes.

Julisa W.

Yelp
We were so pleasantly surprised with this place! Service was SO QUICK and the waitress was even pregnant so props! She actually apologized for the wait when we barely waited. The chicken fried steak was the stand out for me! Homey diner type feel.

Sandi G.

Yelp
Starlight is a staple in our community. The burgers are so flavorful!! Their hamburgers are second to none!

Bobo S.

Yelp
It looks like a dump and it is. The parking lot is nasty, the build looks worn. Your welcomed by a shattered glass front door. Inside, the floor is worn with thousands and thousands served. They havent spent money on ambiance. If you need shiny shiny shiny, this is not your place. My table was clean, but the flies circling were not welcome. If you seek very good food and almost always good service - it is! But bring LOTS OF $$$ Flint diner history is almost all gone. The drugstore wars ended many great diner locations closed as the owners could not ignore the massive amount of money offered for their locations. But my complaint more recent about Starline, is that the area and people they serve is being ignored. 2 people eating should NOT have a $42 bill when they leave. Two breakfasts were more than $30 with milk. So what are they doing with their spoils? I won't be back sadly, as I can't afford to pay this much for food. I hope they take a look at being reasonable. The people in your neighborhood are not able to afford this. Diner food is supposed to be good, reasonable and with great service and a fun jibe. Do better Starlite! "Greedflation" is not something you should do, in my opinion

Yelp
After being away from Flint for a few years I always look forward to visiting the Starlight upon return. My host for this visit remarked that the Starlight had changed ownership in the not-to-distant past. I'm glad she mentioned it because it helped to explain the disapointment I suffered. It seemed as if the wrapped dog was shorter than I'm used to. The bun was not steamed, there was no juice from the typical Flint-style meat sauce, and about a quarter-inch strip of mustard- all leading to a disappointing DRY experience. I consider myself a50+ year-old expert on good coneys, having been raised on Angelo's in the early 50's (now shuttered) Flint style and the Lafayette and American (Detroit style) dogs. As with most everything these days, the price seemed high for the quantity and quality received ($12.99 for a 4-pack. It seems like the new ownership may be trying to coast on the Starlight's now-lost reputation. The 10+ minute wait in the drive thru seemed typical, Little improvement over the years. The Burger King around the corner might have been a better/faster/cheaper choice.

Luba K.

Yelp
Don't judge the place by the outside ;) I was so pleasantly blown away by this place. A true diner, I had a Coney (Flint-style, of course) and fries and both were so delicious! Michigan fries just hit different.

Rich H.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, friendly employees and they are always very accommodating to my service dog.

Steven T.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in town! Just so you know... the hamalot burger, while not on the menu, you can still get. It's my favorite burger in town too!

Mark R.

Yelp
The buns on my Coney were hard. And the condiments on my hamburger were scimpi and they weren't very friendly

Karly m.

Yelp
Service is usually good, except the food is a hit and miss. I have gotten their western omelette, and again it's a hit and miss.

Scott W.

Yelp
This is the epitome of a classic diner and every time I go to see my duaghter I want to go to eat here!

Nathaly M.

Yelp
Great speedy service .. food was great.. the French toast is delicious and the staff is great

Marc M.

Yelp
The burger and fries and coleslaw here was so good that we were willing to overlook the mouse that ran across the floor. (Just a little field mouse not a rat). Seriously tho, will continue to frequent this joint fosho

Billy L.

Yelp
Great food and great service. It could use some updating which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. The waitress was quick with our drink order and very friendly. She brought out the food so quickly I couldn't believe it. The food was great and typical Coney Island style. The waitress checked back often and even asked if I wanted hot sauce or anything for my omelette, which I did. I don't think any waiter or waitress has ever asked me that before. Just all in all great service. This was a very popular place with almost every seat taken in a Thursday morning at 11:30

Hollie S.

Yelp
Food is not the Starlite diner down on Davison and Center. These two places are owned by the same people but are two very different places. The people who serve us here are always nice and polite despite them sometimes have bad days. They actually care about their job. They care abou the people who try to help them make a living. They are fast paced at getting you sat down, order your food and have received your food. They ask if everything is alright and if you want anything else. They know to make things work for them and their restaurant

C.J. F.

Yelp
Good food, friendly staff, casual dining, a diamond!, real cooking, coffee is great, lots of food! Everyone gets a take out box

Macey C.

Yelp
Hours are so wrong, called and they answered and hung up immediately. Just wanted some Fried Cauliflower man.

Neyraiditititai M.

Yelp
When Harry met Sally is what I got when I entered this cool diner. The Reuben sandwich was the highlight of this lunch. My love had the Italian pita sandwich. Can't wait to come back n have that Reuben again

Brandon J.

Yelp
Starlite usually has some pretty good breakfast options, I enjoyed the fries and starlite burger too even though I normally just get breakfast.

Andrew S.

Yelp
If you're not from Flint, this is mandatory. Classic diner food with a history lesson in Flint culture. Embodies the blue collar personality of the town. If you're from Flint and you haven't been yet, something ain't right with you. Can't go wrong with the "working man's special". Enjoy.

Tony M.

Yelp
I happened to be in Flint for an event, and I'd never had a Flint-style coney. The Internet led me to Starlite, it was between here and another place. It's a big place inside, with a challenging parking lot, and it was *packed*. I got a seat at the counter, and ordered a coney and a burger, since that was listed as their specialty. The service was very friendly and the waitresses seem to know everyone here, it's a hard-working crew for a hard-working crowd. If you look up diner in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Starlite -- from the stainless steel to the line at the counter, it's got it all. The burger was good, nothing life-changing. The coney, on the other hand, was great. The "dry" topping is like a mix of regular coney sauce (but not wet), with a sort of bacon-y vibe. A nice snappy dog rounds it all out. I wish I would have gotten two of them and skipped the burger. Next time I'm back this way, I will definitely be back for the Flint coney experience.

Blaise B.

Yelp
I have driven an hour from my house to get food from here more than I should probably admit, lol. Starlite is THAT GOOD. I've never been a big coney dog fan, ever, despite growing up in metro Detroit. Turns out I was just being given the wrong coney dogs for my entire life! FLINT-STYLE IS WHERE IT'S AT! I could eat these coney dogs all day. It's amazing how a slight change can totally change the entire food! Even my dad, who is a die-hard Lafayette Coney fan, quietly admitted that these might be a little bit better. They are THAT GOOD. And oh, the pizza sticks... I dream about these pizza sticks. They're like the bosco sticks we had in high school and college that don't seem to exist outside of school food services! With the little cube pepperonis, and no sauce inside, just grease lol. Dipped in ranch, they are absolute heaven.

Tee L.

Yelp
This is referring to the Starlight in Burton on Court St. I was told to go to this one because it's better than the one on Center Rd, if this is true then I'm afraid to go to the one on Center the food is horrible! I don't even know how they can call their hot dogs Coneys? Coneys have Coney Sauce (Chili) on them not just ground beef with a little seasoning we bought a 6 pack and ate 2, we had their fish dinner it was soggy and gross just very unsatisfied customers but we will give the one on Center a try!

Anndela M.

Yelp
Great place for a howie special its a cheesburger with dry money sauce extra onion they are the only ones who don't make it soggy

Owen R.

Yelp
Fun place Friendly BURTON, MI staff (new favourite place). Nice to eat for four bucks plus tip.

Kristopher M.

Yelp
The one on center and Davison is the dirtiest place I've ever been there was mud everywhere the bathrooms are horrendous all that money they make you think they put new bathrooms in but they don't. I told the waitress that the coleslaw was bad and she started she goes let me tell you something cuz I don't want to hear nothing I just want something else and she still tried talking I was listen get me something else then I got fish and chips and it was so small I almost got I should have said something I mean is embarrassing it's pretty sad when aldos has better food than you don't worry I'll get you some pictures

Jenni B.

Yelp
Only been here once but wow were we impressed. I was not expecting much to be honest and am new to the area. I was thinking greasy diner food but everything my family ordered was def high quality. The kids all enjoyed their food ) which isn't a common thing that they all liked it). I have 3 of my own and currently 3 foster kids. Everyones tastes are all over the place and they all were very happy. That makes this mom happy and we will be back for sure.

Paul S.

Yelp
Great place for early morning breakfast. open 24/7 Good hash and eggs Good coffee Fast service

Laura J.

Yelp
My go to fav! Coneys - best in town. Anything on the menu so good! Always friendly service...

Lana D.

Yelp
It's a coney lol can't expect fine dining. Clean place with cute wallpaper. Servers are pretty nice and TVs for a nice background entertainment. Prices are alright so it's a 4/5

Ekjot K.

Yelp
Fast service and good food for a good price. My husband and I work 7am on sundays and we always get breakfast from here. The food reminds me of a home cooked meal! Service is amazing and everyone is always have a smile on their face! I totally recommend this for people who are on the go because they have a drive thru service as well. If you don't want to wait, get good for a good price this is your place!

Kay R.

Yelp
One of those places you think hmmm , and they have good food. Just about anything your in the mood for is good. I personally like their hamburgers, coneys, fries and of course breakfast

Alyssa J.

Yelp
Greasy diner food at its best, especially late at night. They are open drive thru only later at night but be prepared to wait

Jesse M.

Yelp
Such a cute diner! My husband and I go here all the time for brunch on the weekends or burger and shake sates. The service is always amazing and the food is always super fast. Not to mention it taste amazing as well!

Mike M.

Yelp
Great place to grab breakfast or lunch. The Coney Islands and Burgers are excellent as well.

Izzy H.

Yelp
Stopped in to see how good the food was with 104 good reviews can't pass it up overall I wasn't Impressed with it saying quality since 1966 I expected more we ordered a #2 & #3 also added a coke and a Coney Island dog nothing worthy of any hype the workers was fighting with each other + they forgot the fries with our meals I could go into more detail but trust me it's bad

P P.

Yelp
Nasty, the food was just not good at all, the service was also as equally bad. This place will never get a second try from me!!

Richard M.

Yelp
We ordered a bowl of beef barley soup, guess what not one bite of beef in it. Told the waitress and she said I don't know what to tell you. Bee there a lot of times but no more.

Paul N.

Yelp
Not clean I'm sorry. Workers stand right out by the drive through smoking, then run back in preparing your food and ain't washed no hands

Kalek C.

Yelp
Starlite is a good place to eat, provided the right staff is working. I have gone through their drive through one some days and the food was 5 stars; then on other days, it was subpar. I would love to give them a higher score, but they just cannot seem to remain consistent.

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Been fans of this place since they opened. We had to be out of our house by 8:30 for some work being done. Went inside for breakfast at Starlite since we'd had our second vaccine shot a week ago. Had a sign in sheet and sanitizer right at the door - check. Booths taped off for distancing- check. Waitress comes over to our table with Menus wearing a mask - check WAIT! She was wearing it on her chin! Look around and all the Staff were wearing them not covering the nose or mouth. And looked back to the semi open kitchen and not a mask to be seen on any of the cooks. I know we're all tired of COVID, but sorry, mask wearing at this point should be automatic. Not sure if we'll ever even get take out from them again.
