Starter's Bar and Grill Southfield

The 3 stars are strictly for the waitress, she was awesome. The BOH needs a lot of training. We had 7 people and all our food was messed up and had to come back several times.

I would give 0 stars if I could. During the night time this restaurant is a free for all. Terrible service, terrible food, & terrible management! Ordered a burger and it was literally slop on a plate and they wasn’t trying to Exchange the food or make up for the issues that they caused. By the time the burger was remade the RIGHT WAY the carry out workers was trying to run up from behind the counter to try to swing on me and my girlfriend. I don’t see how this place is still operational for my business standpoint. Extremely disappointed. I would I recommend this food or place to my dog.

Our first time here, and we loved it. The food was absolutely delicious. We had Mahi Mahi bites, steak bites, crab cakes, and salmon ceasar salad wrap. I'm telling you, everything we had was absolutely delicious. It was almost emotional how happy I was with how good everything tasted. I hugged our waitress. With that said, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was fun and not too stuffy, and the drinks were on point. Definitely recommend. We'll be back.

I highly recommend everybody to try this out. Whenever you're in Southfield Detroit, they are the best around the manager. Even came out to talk to me to fix my order. Because they steak that wasn't really done to my satisfaction. But thank you so much, Mr. Manager. I really don't know your name, but you guys are fantastic.

The prices are very affordable. I was AMAZED at the quality of the food. This isn't typical bar food. Everything I tasted was delicious. The cat fish bites, fried shrimp red snapper. The portions are HUGE. Tensy was our waitress. She's the BEST!! Great customer service, knew the menu & gave good suggestions

A truly great place. Fun atmosphere, excellent service, and great food. Was greeted and seated promptly. Our food and drinks were served fresh and in a timely manner. I chose the seafood stuffed salmon, and it was wonderful. Every bite was flavorful, well seasoned, and piping hot. This establishment will not disappoint. When I return to the Metro Detroit Area, I will definitely be back. Well done to the staff at Starter's.

Been patronizing for 4 years. My cousin got the crab legs and they looked great. Wife and I had the red snapper and catfish which were great. Purple rain cocktail was awesome. Good service.

Pretty good food. It's an old neighbor regular. No bad comments or feed back. The food was good. The service was great. The atmosphere was good too. We had crab bites, the Lamb Chop dinner and the Sea Bass dinner. Everything was good.

Service was a bit slow for being 2 of 4 patrons. My steak bites and Mac n cheese were very tasty, but I got onion skin in the mushroom and onion topper. The zip sauce is to die for! My guest had the Catfish lunch. She loved it . The remoulade with the green beans was perfection. I had a dirty martini and she had a double amaretto sour. Both great!

My favorite. Lunch portion shown and it's hearty. My only complaint is not enough rice but I'm sure this does not matter to most and a lil too much gravy lol. Overall, it tastes pretty well seasoned and homemade. Fairly priced. The lunch menu has several options to choose from. The ambiance is relaxing during lunch hours. R&b music was playing and not too crowded.

Another staple in Detroit that is falling off , I think is Jt looking for what my family talked about from the westside location but this spot was all the way off but the Manager did remove the pasta and she added a drink so I won't be ungrateful. But food was lacking flavor and love which we grow to have in black owned establishments ‍ The floors were extremely slippery but they had signs but that didn't take away from the mop that could be used daily so we don't slide into our seats . I give it two because they fixed it so I may try again but them famous steak bits were old beef and ribs tasteless ‍

Dinner with a coworker. He had wings and fries. He says they were fresh and. Very good. I started with a house salad. Very good. I had a porter house steak with broccoli and asparagus. Steak was good not great. Broccoli was way over cooked. Asparagus was ok. Diet Coke was good .

We got carry out last night, and I was so disappointed. All we ordered was loaded potato skins, a spicy chicken sandwich, and chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo was ok, but the potato skins were clearly old. Like they had been sitting around at least all day. And the chicken sandwich was so dry and stringy on soggy white bread with a sad piece of lettuce. I honestly couldn't eat it and ended up trashing it which is very unlike me. These things are not difficult to do right, it's just lazy af. They'll never get my money again.

I ordered delivery from Starters on a snowy day! They followed all of my special instructions and the food was tightly packaged. I ordered the steak bites (medium) and they were in fact the correct temperature, don't forget the zip sauce and extra seasoning. I also had the mini app sampler which was also very good. I didn't know what kind of egg roll was in the sampler but I was happily surprised to find out that it was corned beef. If you're looking for a filling meal on a cold winter day I definitely recommend ordering.

I have not been in years I can say back in the Day. Excellent I will try and go soon and ask a few friends that goes how it is.

Our Central HS alumni group met Sat Dec 21st. We were there in September. We go every 3 months. Our waitress was overwhelmed (her words) that it was so many people. Definitely nor trained. We had to ask for silver ware and our receipt. One person never got receipt. No menus you have to use code or pull up menu in Google. Online menu is not up to date. My catfish bites and rib tips were good

My happy hour spot food is okay but drinks are great. Service is hit or miss depending on the day

Mediocre service .. Went for dinner in a group of five. Waited about 45 minutes to be seated and the place was half empty. Waited another 30minutes to get appetizer and dinner, never got my dinner . Long story short, it took nearly 2hrs to get wings and a beer. (Wings were actually good and why I don't give it 1-star)

Just door dashed a pork chop dinner that was so good! 2 fried and 1 grilled well seasoned and coked to perfection.

Great wings and deep fried shrimp. We sat at the bar and the lady bartending was super nice. They have a huge tequila collection. The prices for lunch are very reasonable and the beer is very cold. Highly recommend.

Customer was good very friendly waitress the spicy chicken sandwich was good but it was not spicy had a sweet sauce on it chicken was juicy cooked to perfection soft butter bun action the chicken strips nice a crunchy seasoned to perfection the music super loud it's a bar so that's what you expect I don't recommend you come here if you're looking for quiet lol but if you're looking for loud music great food and amazing customer service then this is the place for you I want some desert they did not have any that part mad me sad lol other than that come one and come all lol ps I'm just now realizing a few mistakes I made on this review I typed to fast lol

Today was my second time coming here. I have to say I love how they have adapted to Technology. I love that I can check-in and, review the menu and then place my order. I love that I can scan my receipt and pay my bill electronically. I ordered a Delmonico steak with salad and Baked potato. Food was significant other than medium Rare her is Rare, meaning they barely cook it. That is the only issue I had to send my steak back.

Ordered three dinners missing one called a told them came bacķ for the missing order of grilled pork chops, side salad, and baked potato. Was told because when my brother called he did not mention the potato so they did not give me one. So I paid for another mention to the manager the food cost for pork chops is more than a potato. She said she didnt want to do the pork chops she's in food service for 17 years. I wont be back to Southfield again.

When you order Surf and Turf , you expect a grand experience. Let me say I was a patron of the very first restaurant on Plymouth Road. I'm just moving back to the city. When the restaurant was suggested, I was excited to try the food to see if it was as good as back in the day. Sadly, it was not. My companion got her plate,and it looked great. My plate, steak, was not cooked as requested. It was overcooked. I was missing my lobster, and my salad was also M.I.A. I was annoyed, to say the least. My niece said her food was fine. I notified my server and explained what was going on. It took about 45 minutes, and a manager to get the ball rolling .I received the salad in a to go container, with not much lettuce in it. My expensive drink came in a small plastic cup. When I got my steak and lobster, it was still a disappointment. Will I recommend it? No .

my sister went there and brought her leftovers back to share with me. it was their delicious pepper steak -- that we later threw out bc we found hair in it. but before we discovered that hair, we went back again for carry out - this time with our mother. my sister already had the food when my mother and i arrived but she decided to add a salad to the order. the salad took so long to make that our other food got cold and didn't taste good at all. the wings turned to rubber. the catfish bites became soggy. and the fries stiffened up. i know it was busy, but we just wanted a salad. no cooking necessary. just throw some cold salad veggies in a styrofoam box, drop a couple pre-filled cups of dressing in there and keep it moving, am i right? also it was very, very loud in there and we could hardly hear each other. we had to lean in and still speak loudly just to have a conversation. my sister's first time there was in the middle of the week, so it wasn't as crowded or noisy. but the weekend is a little too lit for me. i ain't going back.

They're good is good. I don't care what any one says and they're service has been great morning or evening when I've gone which is a preset big deal. Everyone knows night shift servers are a little different sometimes. But not here I haven't been disappointed yet. I don't know who came up with that Fattoush salad, but babbyyyyyyyyyyy that dressing, they are on to something! Easily above any middle eastern one I've tasted! Add salmon to that salad and thank me later! Lol I take my six year olds here once a week after school and don't you know he eats a whole salad and fried pork chops by himself! Food is literally that good

The wings tasted frozen fried with a frozen taste. The crispy chicken salad had water underneath the lettuce. The white wine was so water down. The waitress could laugh and talk with friends as they came in, but grimed my guest and myself. I was asked by I assume the supervisor how was my meal, I told him the salad had water standing underneath the lettuce. The wings were terrible and the waitress sucked in terms of service. He said SHE WAS THE BEST THEY HAD!!! He had justified why water was underneath my lettuce... he didn't offer to give another salad. This Starters in Southfield on Evergreen is THE WORST EVER.. I wouldn't give them ONE STAR.. don't waste your money

I needed some outside time so I decided to check out the new addition to the Starter family. Upon arrival the hostess was very nice and accommodating, she immediately assisted me with a table but I eventually found seats at the bar which I had preferred. This location is in a strip mall but there is plenty of parking in the front and the rear. The set up is nice, they did have limited seating due to Covid and all staff had on masks. I ordered an original margarita and had to send it back because it tasted funny and I switched it for a Pineapple Marga-Vita which was really good despite that it didn't have the pineapples in it like they do at the Detroit location. The bartender was very nice and on point with the drinks. They unfortunately were out of Corona and Stella beers but the good lamb chops and the fried shrimp with the boom boom sauce made up for it. I didn't order an entree just appetizers at this visit but Starter's is known for really good steaks so maybe next time I will really dive in!

Me and my son just came to the restaurant to eat. No waiter or waitress addressed us. Very disappointing. Another guy comes in after us and sat down and the waitress ran to his table sat don with him and took his order. I know she seen us sitting there. I had to ask for a waiter or waitress twice and still no service. Definitely loss me as customer. Terrible service!!! I did mention to a gentleman but I just left. Both I and my son were very disappointed.

We placed a to go order for the Philly Steak sandwich and the Grilled Chicken sandwich. Both were supposed to come with crispy steak fries. The Philly Steak Sandwich was gristly and so salty we couldn't eat it. The chicken on the Grilled Chicken sandwich was super dry and chalky. The crispy fries were not. The fries were under cooked, limp and soggy. We threw away almost all of both our meals. The one and only redeeming quality was the young woman that was at the carry out register was kind and friendly.

Food is always a hitter here they got multiple choices and drinks come like you made it at home Freshly Baked Rolls crab bites and omg that side salad fully loaded was my topper of it all, and is always a favorite with pasta or steak or just by itself please try everything can't wait to try something new next time with pics.

TERRIBLE!!! Seated immediately. It went downhill from there. Ended up sending the uneaten food back. Waitress was NOT attentive at all. Appetizers were good though.

The food here was so delicious! I had the lobster Alfredo and a couple other appetizers! This Starters is far better than the Woodward location!

First off i the bill was $130, and i tipped the waitress $70. Im generous like that. The service was terrible she was extremely rude i still tipped cause she was a black women and i try to support black women regardless of their attitude. Now to the food. Nobody liked their food. My son's chicken was dry, my lady salmon was dry, and my mac and cheese had no flavor. This use to be the spot but no more. Its one of the worst restaurants in michigan. They dont love the product they produce and its obvious...

I was so taken a back ... this was my second visit. I don't know what the manager was doing? The our male waiter had filthy fingernails. To the extent it looked as if he had been doing car engine repair. I was so grossed out we all had to leave. Totally unsanitary especially during virus times. OMG

Strong no for me. I have it two start's because the waitress was nice. Honestly food is not good. I ordered the steak med and it was well done. The mash potatoes are fake mixed with real potatoes. We came on a Sunday at 2 pm and they was playing club music. Mind you I have my kids with me. Starters use to be good. Maybe the owner have too many locations.

Yesterday, I attempted to order takeout from the Southfield location...a Fattoush salad with grilled chicken and an order of catfish bites. The hostess was very attentive, checking on my order frequently and checking in with me to ensure I was ok. After waiting 30 minutes for my order, a customer returned to the restaurant complaining that she received the wrong order. Instinctively, I looked up and asked the customer if she received a fattoush salad with chicken. She responded, YUP! I told her, I think that was my order. The hostess apologized profusely. That didn't really bother me because I understand mistakes happen. It's what happened next that was unforgivable. The hostess walked back to the kitchen to check in my order. She immediately returned with my order. I asked her if this was a fresh salad or was it the same one that the woman returned. She looked at me and asked me if I wanted a fresh salad. I stared blankly at her for a moment. The hostess added that the costumer didn't open the containers so she thought it was fine. The customer quickly responded that she DID in fact open the containers. She thought it was her order initially. I asked for a refund. The hostess did not protest, she was very polite actually. She got the manager, who came to the register and refunded my credit card. He gave me a receipt and that was it. No..."im sorry"..."here's a gift card to come back"..."I'll speak to the back to make sure this won't happen again"....nothing at all. I took my receipt and left, never to return again. So sad because I loved their fattoush salad. Oh well.

In town on a business trip, this was around the corner from my hotel. I am always skeptical about ordering steak for take out but since Dine-in is a no go right now- I figured I'd give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised!! Steak perfectly cooked (medium) and seasoned well. Fresh salad and streamed broccoli on the side. Only downfall was having to use plastic cutlery, but I made it work :) awesome job & I hope to come by for another meal and a drink at the bar if I ever return to the area!!!

I visited this location last Thursday after work with some friends. They arrived earlier than me and put out names on the list for a table and were told 30 minute wait. I arrived an hour after my friends and they were still waiting on a table. We were finally sat at a table over an hour later. This location is small and located in a strip mall. We were sat at a booth. Honestly, there was no social distancing going on. Every single table was occupied and bar was packed with folks crowded around bar. I felt very uncomfortable. The only Covid-19 precaution I witnessed was once you downloaded menu, they requested your information for trace contacting. The waitresses wore masks but many of the patrons crowded around bar and those walking around did not have their masks on. I ordered a drink (it was jack honey and cranberry some drink they had on menu) it wasn't good. To eat I ordered off happy hour menu (they have a decent selection of food and drinks). I ordered catfish bites and potato skins. They food was straight. Apparently their Tito vodka machine was down so my friends had to change their happy hour drink orders. They ordered dinner entrées which included: a cheeseburger ( pre made patty and my friend said it was extra dry) and a catfish dinner ( this friend enjoyed her food). Entrees come with their freshly baked rolls (never knew this bc I NEVER ORDER ENTRÉES. I only come here for happy hour and on friends suggestions). The rolls were good but too much butter on them (think Bosco sticks). This was a typical Starters experience. I won't be returning until they enforced social distancing and space out their booths.

I had a carry out the girl that took my order was professional and amazing' the food was good, not great as I remember. They forgot my corn on cob. And I had to go back in. They gave me one it was overcooked and freezer burnt geesh smh

Sub par central: I'm being as polite as possible describing the food and the service. I will say they get 4 1/2 start for cleanliness and hostess. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice as well. Now, for the negatives: it took about 30 minutes for one course to come out including the side salad coming out as an appetizer. My food came out first (the side salad then the pork chops) and then my sisters (spicy chicken sandwich and then my niece (steak wrap). All the meals brought ranging about 15-20 minutes apart. They didn't even bring bread out after our order was completed, which is supposed to be typical at all their locations. It seems they've got stingy with the bread as the franchises ages. Moreover my porkchops were bland and overcooked and the broccoli looked overcooked but still crunchy as though it was of frozen or microwave quality. The wait was so long between the food coming out and the waitress checking on us I didn't even want to reorder anything. When the waitress finally returned I just asked that the pork chops be removed from my dinner and I'd pay for the side salad I ate. Nice crowd, music and atmosphere but I wasn't there to be entertained- I was there to enjoy a decent meal. They've really let the chain of establishments go down in quality and this Southfield location certainly did not impress.

Food on point, parking is terrible. That's because they are always busy... Favorite is the Chicken Parm... Staff are nice and friendly...

I'm visiting family for the holidays and wanted to eat something that reminded me of my hometown (Detroit.) I voted for Starters - they've got many more locations now and Southfield is close to my family! Food was good. Service was just OK. I'm just curious how hard it must be for a bartender to make a mocktail? I asked the waitress for a mocktail she said "what's that?" Then she asked the bartender, the bartender said "no. We don't do that." Way to shun the pregnant folks that just want to pretend.

Experience here was trash. Starters came 2 hours after main course. Main course was cold. Manager didn't care about experience. Pretty much my recommendation is don't come to this restaurant. Came to this location for the time yesterday, and no matter what location I go to, the food is still terrible. I got "catfish bites" and crispy Buffalo chicken wrap. That catfish is not catfish, it was so dry like tilapia. Catfish is an oily fish, not sure why it dry. The wrap didn't have chicken, all lettuce and tomatoes. I unwrapped it and ate my two cut pieces of chicken in it. My friend's salad had more chicken on it than my wrap. Overall, disappointed, again but not surprised. Not sure why people love this place, but when you had better quality, you realize how much of a joke this place is for food.

I usually go to Starters on Plymouth Rd but the wait was up to an hour so I went to the one in Southfield for the first time and I must admit that the customer service, atmosphere, and food were excellent.

Veryyyyy poor customer service. Had a reservation, got the alert & texted back "ok coming". Came in about 6/7 minutes after the text was sent and they said they're not going to sit us, even tho they had 2 tables & a booth open

Hands down best place to eat, have a happy hour or just chill. Our fav spot for ladies nights. Super clean, great staff and atmosphere. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but their boom boom sauce is to die for. Not to mention drinks are stiff and reasonably priced.

Order was ready on a timely fashion service was friendly and polite! My food was prepared as I asked,medium! This is definitely one of the better locations in my opinion. I'll definitely return!

Stopped in after ordering on line said pick up was an hour after I ordered which is fine showed up 10 minutes earlier hoping they would be finished with lunch rush now I'm 45 minutes here and still waiting I work right down the street and will not be recommending this place to anyone I work with so I'm taking an hour on my 30 minute lunch break it's almost as bad as the fridays in my lot

Posted is the Alfredo Fettuccine w/Chicken.....does this look appetizing to you? It doesn't taste appetizing either. I also ordered the spinach dip which was runny and the chips were stale. And they did not give me my broccoli with cheese that came with my entree. This was not a positive experience. Not to mention they were way over capacity (it looked like a party!). I didn't stay inside to wait for my order there were people EVERYWHERE. I wasted $30 unfortunately and they lost a good customer.
