My husband and I took the cocktail mixing class and it was great! Don is very knowledgeable about spirits! It was very entertaining and interactive!

Google
This is a little distillery where they do educational tours on the Libations that they make. They do make their own agave tequila, vodka, gin, absinthe and whiskey. I had some taste, and I thought some things of course were better than others. I do have to let you know that I had my first tequila old-fashion ever, I was pleasantly surprised. I WOULD go back.

Chad Crow

Google
Cute tasting room that is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A hidden gem! Meghan, the bartender is very friendly and serves drinks with a smile. The owners, Don & Sean, are both very personable and extremely knowledgeable regarding their product. Stop in… you won’t regret it!

Keith Graham

Google
I love State 38 distilling! It is a perfect date night spot but also gives you a great opportunity to talk spirits ad the owners are usually there to answer all your questions.

Nick and Kelly Berard

Google
I did a small corporate client event at State 38. The owner Don is fantastic to work with. His passion for the spirits he distills and how he presents and educates to clients is impressive. I recommend you hold a cocktail class event there. Very impressed with their business.

Google
Great place to visit. Lots of stuff to do and see. The tours are cool. The tasting room has good décor. They have plenty of spirits, something for everyone. The place is decorated nicely, and staff is friendly. Overall, the place is nice. This is a must if you like spirits. They have all kinds that they distill themselves.

Google
Our group is from Iowa and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Don took the time and explained the process. We enjoyed tasting some spirits and each of us had a cocktail. We will be back for sure.

Megan is great I don’t know about this other guy wearing a jersey but Megan was really cool. What’s your age? Did you say Chad? Oh no I’m a fellow Texan. It was so much fun. Thank your for the Journey!

Yelp
State 38 is a fantastic distillery right here in Golden, CO. We love their local story; one which results in agave-based distillates of the highest quality. We first learned about State 38 through a Groupon, probably about a decade ago, when they had first opened their distillery in Golden. Their tour was particularly fun and interesting, as I didn't realize that the different liquors (e.g., tequila, vodka, gin, whiskey) are not necessarily determined by their ingredients, but also the distillation process, including the temperature of distillation. At the time, they were focused on making the very best agave liquors possible, and their "tequila" is amazing. I encourage anyone who's interested in liquors to join their tour, which I'm sure will still end with a complementary cocktail. We recently attended one of their cocktail classes, which the husband and wife team hold from time-to-time and are sold on EventBrite. This class included a tour, and the instructions and recipe for some of their best-selling cocktails. We discovered that State 38 has been sold, which was a little disappointing to us, given that we were drawn to the local story of two CU students coming into their own. They still have a variety of liquors, including tequila and gin, and I think vodka, but they focus a lot on whiskey now. Although I consider myself a tequila aficionado, my husband loves whiskey, and State 38 products are about as good as they get. They are very reasonably priced, as well.

Yelp
It's been 2 years since I was last here. Their cozy tasting room and distillery are located in a business park south of 6th Ave and off Colfax Ave in Golden. They have a broad range of distilled spirits. They are open from 4pm-7pm Fri-Sat & 4pm-6pm Tues-Thur. I just happened to visit 2 years ago on their 10th anniversary. I learned they now offer twice monthly cocktail classes where you mix 2 cocktails for $50. The only food to accompany any drinks are pretzels, goldfish crackers and Denver Chips. My first drink was a Manhattan with their Bourbon Whiskey. My 2nd drink was a Bohemian Absinthe Mule in the classic copper mug. The absinthe had a wonderful black licorice taste. My 3rd drink was a Raspberry Lime Ricky with their Damn Smooth Vodka. I was served by Tiffany at the bar. She is relatively new and did check an cheatsheet to make the drinks correctly. Nice conversation with fellow customers. I saw a promotion for Gal's Night Out on April 17 at Echter's Garden Center.

Yelp
Jason is exceptional. Talented distiller, excellent service, quality human being. So happy we stopped in here on our trip, immediately looking for an excuse to come back. Send all of your spirits to CA please!

Yelp
My husband and I went to check out @state38distilling right here in Golden Colorado! It was such a treat! Meghan (bartender) and Don (owner) took excellent care of us the whole time answering lots of questions from us with a big smile and taking great care of everyone in the room even as it became incredibly busy! We both enjoyed the blood orange margarita along with the sample of peach vodka, tequila, and absinthe! The place was packed on this Friday evening with lots of people around our age (30's) - laughing and enjoying their time there. Lots of regulars and also new people like us! It's such a cute place that is also in the process of expanding the building and it will become twice the size it is now. We definitely plan on going back and bringing some friends with us for sure. I highly recommend this wonderful place !

Yelp
Stopped by State 38 the other night for a pre-dinner drink. Though I've been here a few times, it was only after checking in on Yelp that I realized I had not yet written a review. Shame on me, because of all the local-ish distilleries, this is hands-down our favorite. Tucked into a corner of industrial buildings, it might not look like much from the outside, but inside liquid pleasures await. Numerous seating options (bar, high top table, and comfy couches) are available, and a big indoor window allows you to see where the magic actually happens. So take your pick, along with a free taster of any one of their spirits. Speaking of spirits, you honestly cannot go wrong with any selection. I am not a huge tequila fan, but even I can appreciate their Hacedor Agave line.. the Blanco is super smooth and their Anejo does indeed drink like a whiskey, though there's still a little more bite than my tastes prefer. Their Whiskey line (my favorite) covers the gamut, with my personal preferences being the Bourbon and Rye. Finally, their Damn Smooth line rounds out the options with the Gin being one of the best gins around. Do yourself a favor and get a sampler so you can try a variety. Most are so good, the best way is to drink them neat, but there is also a great variety of cocktails to choose from, with house and seasonal menus available. On our most recent trip, the Winter options were out. We had only intended on getting one drink, but they were so tasty that we got two and extended our happy hour. I had the Remember the Sage (very unique and my favorite of the night) and the Bourbon Apple, which thankfully wasn't as sweet as I feared. My partner had the Winter's Kiss (xmas in your mouth) and a classic G&T. Owner Don was manning the bar and is always super friendly. I've also had the opportunity to meet the other owners and head distiller, and it's clear that they love what they do and are happy to share their passion. Go now and support this fine local business. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Don and Meghan were an absolute treasure! Don is the owner and Meghan was bar tending. We came in to visit and do some sampling after seeing some of their work fro Morris and Mae! The place has a warm and welcoming feeling to it. We found out they are expanding the place into the building next door as well and will allow for even more customers to come and enjoy. A huge crowd of people came in on this lovely Friday evening and it was filled with a lot of regulars but also some people trying stuff out for the first time. We tried some delicious samples and washed it all down with a yummy margarita! I highly recommend this place to everyone and I look forward to coming back real soon right here in Golden, Colorado ! Ps there was plenty of places to park and it's near lots of eateries and work places near by and we noticed many people walked here !

Yelp
Fun Fact: State 38 Distilling in Golden also offers a Damn Smooth line of spirits. When I won a bottle of Damn Smooth Spirits, I couldn't wait to pick it up. With summer coming, I felt I needed a fruity option for mixing and sipping, so I chose the peach vodka. And while I was there, I enjoyed a mule made with that very same peach vodka. It definitely tastes of summer! With a relaxed tasting room, variety of seating options, and warm, friendly service, State 38 remains one of my favorite Colorado distilleries.

Yelp
Who knew? For 11 years this distillery has been tucked away in Golden. We kept meaning to go and so glad we finally did! Lovely tasting room and the owner, Don, (who was there when we went) is fun to talk to. Of course, he's very knowlegable, but also made it fun for us. We had a couple of killer cocktails and I took home a nice bottle of bourbon and one of their 3 packs. Now, we'll make this a destination!

Sadie F.

Yelp
Whoever they sent to the cherry creek holiday market was unbelievably unpleasant. Bad face for the company and a bad note to end the market on.

Yelp
What a delightful distillery! I have been to several in Colorado and these guys are AMAZING! We really enjoyed tasting all of their different spirits. I think the general consensus is smoooooooth. We tried quite a few and everything was yummy' what I loved is that unlike any like many other sprits, whatever flavor profile is described, you can't taste it. Here, you taste it! The vanilla, butterscotch, peach... its there! There is so much craft that goes into every drink and spirit. We took home a couple bottles! I can't wait to try some drinks at home and then come back and try some of their cocktails. Also, as a side note, GREAT, fun and friendly staff!

Yelp
I don't hand out 5 stars often but when I do it's because they are well deserved! From the moment we walked in until we paid our check we were engaged with by both of the owners. We had 6 people in our party so, we took over most of the small, quaint establishment. They have a spirit for everyone - Gin, Vodka (so smooth you can drink it straight), Bourbon, Tequila and Whiskey. The cocktails are amazing. My husband got this Creamy Root beer made with Raposado. Wow, it dangerously delicious! I got an Old Fashion that drank like silk with a bit of bite. One of our friends asked when they were starting tours again after COVID since the they had been before but were told they were not doing tours. The owner said well I can do one now for your group since there aren't many people in here. It was perfect! Great guys, very knowledgeable, and super friendly! They are going places. Get there before others find out about this hidden gem tucked away in an industrial area.

Yelp
I grabbed a girlfriend and we went to a Yelp elite event that was being hosted there. Met Don and his wife Linda who are partners in the ownership of this place. They were very nice and friendly. They had a decent spread of food, a tasting room and they also offered a little tour of the distillery. They do make their own agave tequila, vodka, gin, absinthe and whiskey. I had some taste, and I thought some things of course were better than others. I do have to let you know that I had my first tequila old-fashion ever, I was pleasantly surprised. I WOULD go back. Yelp Elite Event was another success. Thank you Linda and Don for making the night so much fun.

Yelp
My fiancé and I enjoyed some Old fashions, rye on the rocks, and the peat smoked whiskey. We've been a couple of times and the staff is always wonderful. Today we got hang with Noel as our bartender. Very kind and made conversation feel like your hanging out with someone you have known for a bit. We are using the damn good vodka and gin for our wedding exclusively and Sean the founder, took great care of us in that respect! Overall a fabulous little local to Golden distillery! Check it out!

Yelp
Wonderful visit! Great education. Great service. Great drinks. This will be a great venue to bring friends. Not to sure what else to add but I will return.

Ann K.

Yelp
Whisky was not very good. Server was great. No tour given and they didn't honor what was advertised.

Yelp
This place is special! Top of my Denver list and I'll be taking visitors there from now on. Not only is the staff super cool, but the spirits are all amazing. They've got tequila, vodka, gin, whiskeys, and even absinthe. Naturally the tequilas were my favorite but even the vodka could be sipped. The passion that goes into each batch is very obvious. The tasting room is intimate and just the right size... love the western saloon theme. For me personally, it was nice to be able to partake in all the tastings. Normally when I go to breweries with friends I can't partake because it's not gluten free. I felt very safe at State 38 and everyone was very well educated on being GF. Their location is a bit off the beaten path (ie not downtown golden) but so worth it!

Yelp
This place only has five stars and I know why-they are PHENOMENAL!!! I mean hands down AMAZING!!! So so so good!! We went in right at 40' and were greeted by Chelsea and Don. We sat down at the leather couches and Chelsea came right over. She asked what we wanted to start with and I had a taste of the wheat whiskey and my partner the absinthe. They explained to us the process of putting an ice cube in absinthe and watching it turn cloudy because the oils that are in the alcohol are coming out at a colder temperature and it creates a cloudy appearance. The absinthe was SO GOOD and that isn't even a spirit I particularly like or go for. We needed up buying a bottle to take home. We also have a flight of four and a bourbon old fashioned. The anejo was the best tequila I've ever had. Tequila is one spirit I normally always pass up but this one was so good! If we had more time I would have tried the anejo old fashioned-mmm. We needed up trying their special release whiskey and loved it so we purchased that bottle too with beautiful art work on it. The best part was the BEST BEST BEST service we received! All of our questions were answered and they made each and every guest feel like they were the only ones in there. So much fun! And one warning-Do not be deterred by the semi-weird location. The inside is beautiful and the spirits they produce are incredible!!! This is one of the best distilleries I've been too and I've visited quite a few in my day. Too bad I need to get on a plane to visit or I would be there more often!

Linda H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, and the spirits were fantastic! Agave spirits were awesome, did a whiskey flight which was outstanding... loved the Peat Smoked and their special release holiday high rye was worth the trip! Will definitely be making this one of my favs to come back to!!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Their cocktails are always top notch but you can't beat the vibe! There is always laughter, welcoming staff and their spirits are done in small batch and every single one is fantastic!
google avatar

Mary F.

Yelp
Great way to end our day in Colorado. Thanks for the great conversation and FABULOUS Drinks Owner was there and his passion for his trade was evident in even the smallest detail. Absolutely worth getting to the location.
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
Took a tour and tried a few of their offerings (vodka, bourbon whiskey and gin). The staff member was super informative and friendly. The whiskey was ok. The gin was very different/interesting. The vodka was the best we tried and I hate vodka. It was smooth and tasty. I could drink it on ice with a squeeze of lemon. We didn't try the tequila and definitely should have since all of their liquor a are agave based. Another visitor seemed to enjoy it. One of the tequilas does cost money to try. The tasting was free. Great way to spend an hour.

Yelp
I've had State 38 before at their Corner Saloon, but this is the first time I went to their distillery. My boyfriend had purchased a groupon deal, so we went with some friends for some tastings and a tour - and we were not disappointed! Joel was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I learned some new things on the tour and hearing their start-up story and their passion was great. The liquors are great, as were the cocktails.

S. H.

Yelp
We were visiting from San Francisco and found this place on yelp. By FAR the best distillery I've ever been to. The owner, Shawn, is such a friendly and funny guy. We had some free samples and we got a number of cocktails so try. Highly recommend the margarita, Shawn made me two of the best margs I've ever had. Great little tour and friendly conversation.
google avatar

Mickey M.

Yelp
This place is really awesome. I'll be honest, I'm generally a beer guy, but enjoy spirits from time to time. Found the Groupon and headed here on a Saturday night. Located in a business park, you forget that right away when you walk in the door. There is a small bar and a lounge area. We tried the bourbon, blanco and anejo tequila. All of them were really outstanding. Very smooth, good flavor and tasted like time was put into each bottle. After enjoying a couple of drinks we took a tour of the distillery where any lack of technology was made up for in passion and detail. Talk to the employees/distillers and who knows what other opportunities may present themselves (new batches, soon to be tapped barrels etc. etc.) Finally, $35 for a blanco tequila??! Jose gold is like $25, it's an absolute no brainer.
google avatar

Charlene L.

Yelp
Hot damn. These cocktails are superb. Dave whipped us up some badass old fashions and other assorted cocktails. Well crafted and using locally made liquor. Everyone visiit8ng Golden needs to visit here and enjoy a fantastic cocktail.

Yelp
This past Friday morning I received an email from Grateful Bread promoting Whiskey & Bread. The timing was good, so the lady friend and I went to State 38 Distillery for their free samples of their products. We received two tickets for a drawing and two samples from either their 2 whiskies, gin, and tequilas. It was a fun shindig. I enjoyed my samples with my favorites being their peated whiskey (burns less on tasting #3) and the reposado. Also, the bread using State 38 by-products was amazing!
google avatar

Eddy K.

Yelp
Found this place at the booze hall with our mixologist and cool guy chaisen. Went 2 days in a row, day 1 margarita was perfect...day 2 it wasn't so chaisen handmade the perfect one again. You got to visit! The actual address isn't correct as its on wynkoop

Yelp
Amazing drinks, great people and locally owned. All the things we love. You need to check out State 38 as soon as you can!!!
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
This review is being updated because we are grateful for the owner's thoughtful response - that he actually took the time to respond is huge. We did enjoy the product enough to go twice. We are still a bit confused on how batches are differentiated because there was no batch number on the bottle we purchased. Regardless it is a great product. We love supporting local business and we were very happy to find State 38, so much so after doing a tour and tasting we decided to take our kids on their next visit to Colorado. On our first visit we bought a bottle of Anejo as a gift, and learned during this visit, a mere four months later, the bottle had dropped over $20 in price from what we paid. We were puzzled - based on the tour the prices for ingredients had gone up, so logic would tell you the price would have been less four months ago and more now not the other way around. Perhaps we were charged what he thought we might pay, perhaps you are supposed to barter or perhaps the already generous tip we left was not enough. Either way we are left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Yelp
This is my wife's and my new favorite place for craft cocktails in Golden. Great staff, nice outside (but limited) outside seating and amazing drinks. The Smokey Old Fashioned is crazy good. There lease is up in one year so we all hope that they can relocate somewhere else in Golden. Please stay, State 38!
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Had an absolute blast here today on their tour. We purchased a groupon (me and 3 friends), which included 2 liquors to try and a cocktail, as well as a tour of their distillery. Although short staffed, I felt they were absolutely so genuine and personable and the owner was so fun cracking jokes during the tour. Make an effort to take an hour and support their small business and buy your alcohol here!
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
Great place and good alcohol. Well worth getting the Groupon for this place. Small inside but don't let that fool you. Tequila and vodka were made very well. Keep up the good work and hope you start selling in California.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Great experience. Sean was very friendly and took us through a great tour. Purchased his Anejo after a lovely tasting. Go check them out!
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
Went to the tasting room in Downtown Golden, Colorado. First off, the staff there is amazing! Very friendly, very helpful, very knowledgeable. The vodka and gin are made from agave and are both the best of their kind that I've ever had. The tequila, which comes in Blanco, reposado, and anejo, were also amazingly delicious. It's hard to get a Blanco that goes down as smoothly as theirs does. The resting and aging of the other two really bring out the agave flavor, with something else semi sweet on the palate reminiscent of almond. If you're in town, definitely stop by!
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Excellent tour and liquor education-these guys are top notch distillers and product salesman. I got more knowledge from this tour than 40 years of tipping glasses-2nd visit and learn something new everytime. Who doesn't like meeting people from all over the world that share a common passion...drinking fine liquor.
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
Joel, the head distiller took us on a tour and poured cocktails and a good time was had by all. It's a small place, but the lounge/bar in the front was a nice place to relax and taste their offerings. Especially enjoyed the bourbon mule and the root beer tequila drink. Joel was both informative and fun. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to sample some fine spirits.
google avatar

Tanya P.

Yelp
I visited these guys after hearing how awesome their tequila was from a friend. I happen to have a soft spot for tequila in my life - not shooting it, I just really enjoy a high quality tequila that I can sip. After getting the email talking about the release of their double anejo - I was intrigued. When I visited and tried it - wow. So delicious! Definitely added a bottle to my liquor stash. I also tried their gin, which was also good, and something I plan on going back to get a bottle of eventually. Aside from executing their craft well, the atmosphere of the distillery itself is great, super casual and very fitting for Colorado. If you're thinking about going - stop thinking and just go :-)
google avatar

Zora D.

Yelp
I have had the luck and pleasure to enjoy several tastings with State 38. The agave based spirits are so good, it would a shame to do anything but sip them. I plan to give the State 38 reposado to my brother for Christmas and the gin (personal favorite) to my sister. Sean and the State 38 crew are doing something right!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Fantastic and thorough tour with excellent spirits. Walked in thinking it would be another hipster distiller playing on marketing gimmicks. Not the case at all. Fantastic experience.

Judy W.

Yelp
Go for a taste, but be sure to get the tour as well! All products distilled are made with Agave. The Tequila was excellent, but I was surprised that I especially liked the Gin. Rather than repeat what others have said, I'll just say I agree with the other 5 star reviews 100%.

Monica S.

Yelp
By far the best distillery tour I have ever experienced. Sean, the owner, took us through a very detailed and interesting tour of this unique, local distillery. We sipped on some of the best agave spirits I have ever tasted as we toured the site. I was incredibly impressed by the attention to detail in every aspect - the tour, the appearance, and most importantly the taste of the product. I highly recommend this Golden gem :)
google avatar

Cathleen M.

Yelp
We went on y'alls tour and tasting today. We were a group of 9 from Texas. Shaun and John were great and we laughed the entire tour. Everything that you guys make is delicious and we will definitely be repeat customers. I recommend this tour to anyone in Colorado we drove from Bailey and it was absolutely worth the drive!! I hope you guys go far and we can buy your product in Texas someday very soon!
google avatar

Ashly H.

Yelp
Jon was super nice and very informative. AMAZING booze with NONE of that horrible aftertaste! I have a new favorite distillery now

Vincent C.

Yelp
If you are looking for a quality small batch distillery... This isn't it! I took the tour and listened to the pitch from Sean who claimed to be the owner and head distiller. This guy is a complete amateur and total hack. I tasted the Agave Blanco, Reposado, Gin, and Vodka. Other then the Vodka... it all tastes like Whisky!!! Bad Whisky at that! Then he has the audacity to charge $35 and up for this crap! I will say the Vodka was okay but not worth the $35 price tag. Your money would be far better spent on a bottle of Svedka or Triple Distilled Smirnoff. I'm not just trying to bag on this company, but I feel honesty is best when it comes to a review. Stay away from this place, not worth the time or money!

Bill D.

Yelp
What a great local find. Very happy to find great local talent. Please stop by for a tasting.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Go check this place out! We loved it the moment we walked through the door. Sean welcomed us into his space and shared his story. JT was great. We tried all the spirits and bought the gin and the anejo. Yum. Support your local distillery!
