State 48 Funk House – Disappointing, disorganized, and overpriced
I arrived at 7:57 PM with a two-hour Groupon and expected to receive the full two-hour experience I paid for. That did not happen.
When we arrived, there was no one at the check-in desk. A line of guests had already formed, and no one had been checked in. After waiting about 15 minutes, I asked the people ahead of us if they had been helped—no one had. I then had to leave the line and hunt down an employee just to get someone to acknowledge us.
Despite three clearly open lanes and an unused “VIP” section that sat empty the entire night, I was told all lanes were full and that we would need to wait 15 more minutes. I accepted that. What was not acceptable is that the actual wait time turned into 43 minutes, plus additional setup time—meaning I lost nearly a full hour of the two hours I paid for.
The employee who checked us in was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. When I politely asked if we could at least get our bowling shoes ahead of time to minimize further delays, I was met with resistance instead of solutions. The manager on duty that night was no better—no urgency, no accountability.
To be clear: the only bright spot was our food server. She was outstanding—professional, attentive, and genuinely cared. She is the only reason this review is not significantly worse. She went out of her way to issue us a voucher so we could return and actually receive the experience we paid for. Without her intervention, nothing would have been made right.
That said, customers should not have to rely on one exceptional employee to fix systemic failures.
Now let’s talk about the food—because it was inexcusable for the price.
• The salmon was overcooked
• The vegetables were poorly prepared
• The pizza tasted like a cheap Lunchables pizza (and worse than some)
• The salad was bland and not fresh
Our bill was over $100, and I would never pay that again for food of this quality. It was genuinely bad.
The bowling experience itself was okay, but even that was flawed. Our lane machine was broken, forcing us to manually write names on paper instead of using the system like everyone else. Still, my family and I did manage to have fun—but that was despite the issues, not because of how the place was run.
One final, serious concern: there was no hand sanitizer available in the bowling area, where everyone is putting their fingers into shared bowling balls. When I asked for sanitizer, staff could not find any. The only bottle in the entire building was at the front of the restaurant. That is unacceptable—especially post-COVID.
Bottom line:
Poor management, rude front-of-house staff, long unacknowledged wait times, broken equipment, and severely overpriced, low-quality food. The only reason I would consider returning is because of the excellent server who actually cared. Management needs to step up, train staff properly, and fix basic operational issues—because right now, this place is not worth the money.
