The Best Restaurants in the Berkshires | Eater Boston

"An event-driven restaurant at Greylock Works that’s a crowd-pleaser, State Food and Drink serves pastry and coffee by day (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday), weekend brunch and dinner. It’s farm-to-table fare on weekends, Southern food on “Blue Mondays,” and Vietnamese food on Tuesdays. Check the calendar before going." - Emma Van Slyck

Personally, I’ve only been for breakfast. I’ve heard it’s better for dinner. I sure hope so because I left feeling unsatisfied by the measly yogurt parfait that I ordered. Perhaps the shakshuka that someone else in my group ordered would have been better. Service is kind of slow but fine. On the whole, wouldn’t come back again.

Exceptional experience all around! We came in as a large group, and while the restaurant was already bustling with activity, things moved quickly to get us our coffees and food. Service was friendly and efficient, and my dirty chai was delicious without being overly sweet! Every dish we ate was delicious and filling. I had the breakfast shakshuka, which came out quickly and not in a traditional preparation, but the flavors were spot on and the portion hearty. I couldn’t decide between the fried breakfast potatoes or cheesy grits, so went with both which was the right call. The potatoes had the ideal crunch and the grits were both unique and comfortingly familiar. My friend had the harvest bowl, which was a beautiful combination of ingredients that worked well together in every bite. They also had a lovely selection of pastries and bagels that I will definitely be returning to sample. The space is also very cool, a modern industrial feel that wouldn’t be out of place on a bustling corner in Brooklyn, and other cool businesses to browse while you digest. This spot is definitely the highlight of all the culinary experiences that we have had in this region, and we can’t wait to come back!

This newly opened cafe/restaurant offers a delightful atmosphere and a diverse menu with something for everyone. I highly recommend their Americano – it was truly excellent, surpassing many others I've had. I also sampled a pistachio croissant, which had a lovely soft and chewy texture, though the pistachio flavor was a bit subtle. Beyond the delicious food and drinks, this spot boasts ample parking and very reasonable prices. The outdoor seating area provides a beautiful view, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your meal. Whether you're looking for a leisurely brunch or a quick coffee break, this cafe is definitely worth a visit.

The food was delicious (noodle bowl with lemongrass chicken was fantastic)! We ordered French toast for the table and that was the perfect move. The staff are amazing and the owner is so kind! Rearrange your life to go to their monthly drag brunch. So fun!

This place is wonderful! The menu is simple and refreshing —each dish is a thoughtful blend of flavors and presentation, with familiar ingredients in the most delightful ways. You can truly feel the passion and imagination behind every plate. Monday’s (southern) and Tuesday’s (Vietnamese) dinner are my favorite! IYKYK What makes this place even more memorable are the chefs. Not only are they incredibly talented, but their warmth and hospitality shine through.

STATE Food + Drink in North Adams, MA, is a true culinary gem that seamlessly blends West Coast inspiration with the charm of the Berkshires. Located within Greylock WORKS, this inviting restaurant offers a warm, community-focused atmosphere where sustainability and seasonality take center stage. The menu is a delightful fusion of Californian, Vietnamese, and American flavors, crafted by Executive Chef Aaron Willis. Standout brunch options include the “Cowpoke” skillet, featuring scrambled eggs with bacon, sausage, spinach, and white cheddar, and the “Mexicali” with kale, soyrizo, roasted corn, and pickled peppers. For those seeking lighter fare, the “Beach Bum” yogurt bowl with fresh berries and hemp seed is both refreshing and satisfying. Most dishes are naturally gluten-free, and the kitchen is accommodating to various dietary needs, offering gluten-free substitutions at no extra charge. The restaurant is delicious and a beautiful dinner experiences, highlighting both the quality of the food and the welcoming ambiance! Whether you’re a local or just visiting, STATE Food + Drink provides a memorable dining experience that celebrates fresh, flavorful cuisine in a setting that feels like home!

This is hands down the yummiest, coolest spot in North Adams and Williamstown, MA. Situated in a very well-renovated mill building, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all well worth it- delicious food, much of which is grown at the owner’s farm- from fabulous pastries, french toast, eggs etc in the morning to the best steak i have ever had at night, this restaurant is a fantastic addition to the Northern Berkshires. The owner, Tu, works hard to insure good service and quality food- support this local business- my two cents…

Came here on a Tuesday for their Vietnamese menu and had a stellar meal! We loved everything we ordered (banh beo, banh xeo, coconut noodles), but the star of the show was the tropical fruit ice cream sundae for dessert. Serious flavor explosion 🤯🔥 Service was warm and attentive and the chef is awesome!! Can't wait to return to try the other menus!

Yelp
My experience today was so disappointing that I had to leave a review. My family went for brunch/lunch. None of us were super happy with the food, but I was especially disappointed in both the food and the service/response to my dissatisfaction. I ordered 'nova lox plate with bagel, a shmear of dill lemon crema, and pickled onions--those were the words on the menu, and my expectations accordingly. Instead I got a plate with a bagel (thumbs up!) a dollop of crema sauce in a little puddle on the plate, and a small pile of shredded baked salmon--not nova, not lox, not smoked salmon (though they did claim it was their special in house smoked salmon). I sent it back as not at all what I expected or wanted. That would have been fine and the end of it, I wasn't upset just disappointed with what they sent out. However, then the chef/owner came over to defensively, passive aggressively, and frankly quite rudely tell me that this is how they make it. Ok. That's fine but I don't want it and it's not what they describe on the menu--no need to argue about it. They offered a refund which I gladly accepted. It didn't end there. Another round of defensive justifications came our way with a second table visit. Unnecessary and aggravating. On the way out, the chef passive aggressively muttered under his breath as I walked out about that is how they make it here and something I didn't catch--unbelievable lack of hospitality, brittle and hostile reaction. Sadly it didn't end there, as on checking the refund wasn't on our card, so back we went--I believe them when they said it would show up at the end of day when they run their charges through, but did want a receipt regardless. I really didn't want to fight or further discuss it, but once again the chef wanted to argue that he is right on this--again rudely and hostile defensiveness. Completely unnecessary and unacceptable. On my way out, he shouted that we were not welcome back--as if we had any intention of ever returning after that series of offensive behaviors from him. But at least on that we were in agreement, there will never be an enticement that would ever bring me back to this horrible restaurant and to give money to that horrid man. It's sad, as the Break Room was delicious and inviting, and we love supporting local businesses and restaurants--but that place is a solid no, never again.
