Located at the State Line Lookout in Alpine, New Jersey, the State Line Cafe is a delightful refreshment stand that caters to hikers and nature enthusiasts. This historic spot, initially called the "Lookout Inn" and built during the WPA era, offers a straightforward menu of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and a variety of coffee and snacks. With breathtaking views of the Hudson River, it’s an ideal place to pause for a meal before or after a hike. The cafe features outdoor seating and restrooms for the convenience of its visitors. Although prices have recently increased, they remain quite reasonable compared to nearby options, ensuring fresh, made-to-order meals. You won't find any stale hot dogs or pre-prepared hamburgers here. The staff is friendly and engaging, always ready to share stories with guests, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere. The building itself is a charming reminder of the past when the Palisades served as a sought-after retreat for New Yorkers craving a connection to nature. During my visit, I chose a classic grilled hot dog topped with sauerkraut, along with yellow mustard and ketchup—keeping it simple but satisfying. I might explore their fish and chips or the popular grilled chicken sandwich on my next trip. For anyone looking to enjoy good food amidst stunning scenery, the State Line Cafe is a must-visit.

Built in 1937 and originally known as “Lookout Inn, my partner and I decided to stop at the State Line Lookout Cafe after a nice hike for a bite. This casual establishment is a throwback to yesteryear inside a nice stone cabin with fireplaces to warm up during cold weather and the only restaurant/cafe around in the nearby area. I was greeted by the young staff. Their simple menu is a little diverse, from breakfast sandwiches, various burgers, and hot dogs to fries, but nothing too fancy. We decided on a cheeseburger, a tuna fish salad sandwich, large fries to share, and drinks for takeout. Service was friendly and quick. Prices are quite reasonable, and the food was hot, freshly prepared, and tasty. We can recommend it.

Such an awesome staff. Great burgers and nice stone building to warm up in along the Hudson. There are bathrooms and even a fireplace. I have been coming here since I was a kid. They used to have hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick. I miss that

Hidden gem alert big time!! Stateline lookout Cafe of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Alpine is a must hit up. Food is basic but on point, prices are like 1990s. This eclectic rustic historic gem 💎 is a throwback to yesteryearl with really cool guys working it, music rocks and the views, trails and welll... up to you now. I've said enough. Dynamite!

This cafe is filled with thoughtful and courteous employees. The restroom and dining areas are clean and offer ample space for social distancing. The menu is a little diverse, but nothing too fancy. To be fair however, we visit the park for the views, the trails and to enjoy nature - not to be wooed by food. That said, they sell a solid burger that most patrons should only consume after a hike. They also offer a selection of non alcoholic beverages.

This cafe must be run by the state as it's the slowest place on earth. 4 people in green uniform stand around looking at each other and for 10 min don't even attempt to make a basic sandwich that was ordered. It's like watching things in slo mo. Pulling a slice of bread out of a plastic bag sloooowly.... doing everything sloooowly

Great for lunch and access to a wonderful view! My daughter and I enjoyed a tasty lunch in the rustic Cafe along with a lofty view from atop the Palisades on this chilly January afternoon. Prices are quite reasonable and the food was hot and freshly prepared.
