Great venue, and the seats are comfortable. Bringing glamour, pizazz, and a large audience to locally produced art is important. Stateside does those things, and does them best.
Connected to the Paramount and perhaps overshadowed by it, Stateside regularly hosts Austin's own B. Iden Payne awards, essentially the local Tony's. As if playing host to the top theatrical accolade In Austin didn't tell you, this place is very expensive, unfortunately. That doesn't make it a bad bet though.
Because it's always possible for something to be overpriced and still be stunning - or even over priced and worth it - and an evening at the Stateside does not disappoint. With drinks in the $8 - $12 dollar range, the superior quality of your drunkenness will hopefully make you feel better about all that money you're spending. The high proscenium arch tickles a sense of awe in the theatre, but the venue is still surprisingly intimate for a space so large.
Truly great place, and an important part of local art and history. Would absolutely come again.
