12 Places to Experience Arts and Culture in St. Pete/Clearwater

"For nearly a century, this Beaux-Arts-style building has stood on Central Avenue in St. Pete. It has lived many lives in that time, serving as a bank, an office, a movie theater, and a beloved concert venue. After several years of renovations, the music hall recently reopened with a new identity: the Floridian Social Club. The building was originally constructed in 1924 as Alexander National Bank. At the time, the 8,600-square-foot building was one of the largest banks in St. Petersburg, and the only one with the ability to print currency. But this first iteration was short-lived—after the stock market crash of 1929, the bank was forced to close. For a time, the building sat largely vacant, occasionally being used as office space. But in 1950 it reopened with a new name—the State Theatre—and a new mission—entertainment. The first film to grace the screens at the movie theater was The Outriders, a Western starring Joel McCrea. A little more than 30 years after its debut, the movie theater went out of business and the building was reimagined once again, this time as a live music venue. It became known for hosting big-name performers as well as local bands from funk to heavy metal and everything in between. Sadly, the historic building began to show its age. After running into a number of issues and having its capacity limited by fire code violations, the State Theatre closed its doors in 2018. Soon after, St. Pete native Kevin Chadwick bought the building and began renovating. Over several years of work, the theater was totally gutted and rebuilt in an Art Deco style that honors its history. During renovations, the original hand-crafted concrete tiles from 1924 were discovered underneath the flooring. When it reopened in 2021, the concert hall also debuted its new name, the Floridian Social Club. With live music most nights of the week and a Roaring 20s-inspired cocktail list, the Floridian hopes to honor the past and future of this local landmark." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
Stumbled across The Floridian after dinner on a Sunday evening. It was Jazz Sunday, so we paid the $5 cover charge, grabbed a couple of drinks, and enjoyed the wonderful jazz band! It's a beautiful venue, and we look forward to going again!

Google
Got to the venue earlier. Had to few cocktails at the main bar as you walk in. Then grabbed a table on the rail upstairs just behind adn above the sound booth. Probably the best seats in the house if you're not a fan of being in the crowd in front of the stage. Still able to get some good photos from this distance too.

Google
Great venue. The Crew jazz group were very entertaining. Would definitely recommend this trendy spot.

Google
This place is a great reason to get dressed up and go out. There’s no dress code but walking in you feel like you should dress to the occasion. The drinks are good and there is always great LIVE entertainment. In between music they other entertainment like fire eaters and acrobatic acts. Make it a point to go!

Google
best music spot on the planet! beautiful decor, great service always a fun crowd

Google
I've seen plenty of amazing shows here over the last fifteen years that I've lived in the bay area. Consistently good staff, not douchey unlike bar and security staff at other certain venues in the city.

Google
Latin dance classes on certain nights. And live music! Much fun

Google
Loved the concert, small venue, 2 bars, but one bartender each making for long lines. The area around is nice. Plan for dinner prior in the area. Makes for a nice, close to home evening.

Yelp
One our favorite entertainment venues. The interior is just beautiful. It's a a unique cross between speak easy and upscale night club. There is always something happening. Sunday Jazz is a favorite! Check out their Facebook for events (the Mardi Gras event is also one of our favorites). Great drink and cocktail selection. No food options but can order from next door restaurants.

Yelp
Finally hit 500 Reviews! This 5-star review is for you Floridian Social Club!! Wow, I wish we had a place like the Floridian Social Club in Sanford, FL, this place is beautiful! First off the building is 100 years old or more from what I've been told, so it's full of old world beauty and character. There are two full bars, one on the first floor and one upstairs. They have a huge raised stage so that all onlookers can see pretty much anywhere they are standing. You can even see the stage from outside the entry doors which is a great way to draw people in during events. Management did a great job by setting up the VIP seating area to the left and right side of the main stage leaving a nice big area open for dancing, great job!! There is nothing worse than a bunch of VIP tables blocking the dance floor, thank you! Upstairs, there is theater style seating, which also offers a great view of the stage and the seats are very comfortable. There is also a built in wooden troth where you can place your binoculars, phone, and drink. Staff were all friendly and the venue is kept clean throughout the evening. Drinks are on the pricey side - $10 for a well whiskey and Ginger, and $9 for a 16oz can of yuengling, but not bad if you keep it to a two or three drink max for the night. We came to see our friends from the band LOVE SONG play in their first performance (in 2024) of Tim Burton's Night - The Cure Tribute. Rusty, the singer sent out a link to where we could buy our tickets at a discounted rate; buy one get one free. So for the both of us it was about $15 to get in, thank you Rusty!! We have seen Lovesong perform this show several times now and each time it gets better and better. Something to note is they do not play 100% Cure music, they tend to mix it up with NIN, White Zombie, Depeche Mode, Misfits, George Michael, and a few other great jams. All-n-all, we had a great time and I definitely recommend stopping in to see a show if you have an opportunity.

Yelp
A-MAZING. Super cute venue and they've changed it so much from when I went as a teen. I went to the broadway drag show and it was show stopping fun. Amazing performances, drinks and vibes. The man who made our drinks knows how to make a margarita and a mojito.
google avatar

Yelp
I asked for cream or anything that would help my friend's heartburn! Yheu nave all the ingredients for the drinks but NOooo.. whar an asshole

Yelp
Super cool live music venue. We always enjoy this club and make a point to get in here every time we visit this area! Servers rock and roll out the drinks! Sound is great and they have great musical guests!

Yelp
History grooves here. What a cool place. It has this Gatsby/20s/speakeasy vibe-with an intriguing craft cocktail menu. I don't think they serve food, but that would kind of ruin the decadent, club mood. It's so slinky, sophisticated, grown up and sort of sexy. Eating would just shine daylight into the mysterious dark corners. Hard to believe it was a bank first-then a movie theater-then, most recently, the State Theatre. Located in the Central Ave entertainment district downtown, it's an easy walk to so many restaurants and bars. I was here in April 2024 to see a live music event (The Wilson Van) and the accoustics were great. There was high table seating along the sides of the room and some stadium seating in the balcony above (I think there was a bar upstairs, too) The bar downstairs was super busy but the servers were great-really hustling and super friendly. I can't wait to go back. I need to explore the space-and that bar menu some more! The roaring 20s are back!

Yelp
This place is incredible!! Went to Floridian Social Club a few weeks ago (late post) for "Boho Sideshow" event. The event itself was wildly entertaining and fun. The venue was clean, inviting, and had a very pleasant aesthetic. Walking in made you feel like you were of a higher echelon without the gaudiness and free of any pretentiousness. Staff was friendly all around and I appreciate their promptness and top notch service. I would return to Florida Social Club without question.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a bit different place, it is eclectic, charming, and naughty. The social clubs invite bands, some are specialties, one is Latin, rock and roll, soul, jazz, and many times they are the local artists. We need to support places like this. The alcoholic beverages are cold, and slightly priced, and at higher than normal. The seating is Paris Cabaret style. The Sound System is quite good. No food is served but I've witnessed folks bring food from the outside, which was nice. The ambiance is based on the tone of the night. Tonight was " The day of the dead (Día de los Muertos.)" There are entry fees at times and once in a while, it is free. The schedule of bands you can locate at their website and EventBrite's website- here you can join via email and they will update you with their band schedules. My favorite is Latin nights, here you can dance salsa, bachata, merengue and even wear a customer of the dead. There are bands you may have heard played before and still play here.

Yelp
Invited here by a couple of friends but always wanted to check this place out. The venue is amazing with lots of history. Service was awesome and the drinks delicious if not a tad pricey. Looking forward to coming here for another show.

Yelp
Cool live music venue in St. Pete. They have live entertainment Thursday to Sunday. It's an intimate space. They have a large stage and there's an upstairs space as well. Friendly service at the bar. Acoustics are great. Parking is available on the street or nearby city garages.
google avatar

Lorraine B.

Yelp
Great venue - margarita with the blood orange slice yummy but you may have to ask for more tequila there a-little light with it. I'll be back
google avatar

Nikki B.

Yelp
Nice venue to take in a small intimate concert. Every seat is a great seat. Friendly staff. Good drink. No food. Well, that may be the only downside; the lack of food. Otherwise, I can't wait ton go to another concert.
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
I came here for a free "burlesque" show. And it was a 7 min long show to get people to stay and buy drinks and then just played music the rest of the time. Had potential. My advice would be to charge cover and put in the effort/budget/production for something a little bit less bootlegged feeling lol

Victor C.

Yelp
Giving the place a try. Beautiful interior. Interesting vibe. The upstairs bartender was literally the rudest server I've ever experienced. He was literally yelling at patrons to hurry up or just walking away from customers saying "I can't hear you". I understand when someone feels stressed because of a crowded bar but it was completely unacceptable and was clear evidence of poor hiring or poor training. Wouldn't recommend.

Katelyn K.

Yelp
Charming ambiance with fast service, awesome events and the ability to people watch at the tables outside.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
We experienced the recent NYE jazz, cabaret and burlesque event. What fun! Would totally do this again and will absolutely be back to see more live entertainment for date night with the hubby. Loved the opportunity to dress up and we were not disappointed by the rest of the crowd who also showed up in their most festive attire. The showgirl waitresses(?) with Vegas-style feather headdresses were a very clever touch too. Hot Tonic was fabulous and the burlesque and cabaret acts were on point as well. We enjoyed our cocktails which were well made and visually appealing too. The interior design and architecture is really great. Definitely check this place out if you haven't yet!
google avatar

Ariana F.

Yelp
If you haven't been to the Emerald Rabbit then you gotta go on their sure and book the next show. You won't regret it!! Highly recommend the themed cocktails.
google avatar

Trisha P.

Yelp
This venue is a jewel. Located in a walkable area of St. Petersburg with plenty of food options for preshow and then the atmosphere inside goes above and beyond to create a moment for the guest. I loved both the standing room and seated shows I attended recently. I will attend a small local venue show over a large amphitheater show anytime!
google avatar

Brianna D.

Yelp
The Floridian has such a great atmosphere. We got there early and we're able to get seats upstairs. Drinks are priced reasonably and no food is served. Eat beforehand at one of the great restaurants on Central Ave. Overall, great date night, or night out with friends, it really suites all!
google avatar

Todd G.

Yelp
First visit to this nice establishment and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Definitely enjoyed the 20s vibe of the place and this would make for a nice date night location. The don't serve food as they don't have a kitchen. It would be nice if they could offer charcuterie boards and gourmet premade desserts or simple things that only require a refrigerator and prep area. Drinks are fairly priced, both well and house wine came in at $8 each. Service was good, told we would get a tour but that never materialized unfortunately. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Amazing concert venue and fun craft cocktails We went for opening night Band: local favorite The Black Honkeys. Always great seeing them. This place has great acoustics. So they sounded great. They also had trapeze act in the middle of the room towards the stage. Very comfortable chairs with marble tables. Elegant vibe - i can see now why they had to rename it. Nothing like the old state Theatre. Around the edge of the room they have half booths with high tops. Cocktails: god's waiting room. A frothy sweet cocktail. Made with gin, jasmine and strega liquor. Strega is an herbal liquor. $10 best one 8/10 Tried the viuex carre - very strong with rye and bitters. $11. 6/10 My friends got black and gold and the jungle bird. Jungle bird had campari - my friends did not like the bitter after taste. My friend that got the black and gold didn't like hers either. It was very strong.

Yelp
I started going here when it first opened during COVID. Clearly there has been a change of management, and I can't say for the better. When I first started going, the service was very top notch. Now it is mediocre over all. Some servers are very enthusiastic and on the spot, others, not so much. I have been here for many different live music events and the sound quality of the space really does depend on the type of performance. For God's sake, can some of your acts get a proper sound engineer rather than a guy walking around with an iPad doing who knows what? When the event is free...that is one thing. When they charge a $15 cover for.... the same act that is free in other venues.... I'm trying to figure out what the value add is. I think the new management, if that is what happened, isn't seeing the bigger picture. Been here more than once where the cover has deterred visitors and the place is 1/2 empty. There are MANY options for free in St. Pete and just as entertaining. Try it. See what you think. I still go there but only on rare occasion vs. my weekly visits in the past.

Portia W.

Yelp
Great venue location large center bar plenty of dancing space and upstairs for additional seating! Special events can get crowded to park early so you don't have to wait in a long line!

Yelp
This is the best nightclub for grownups that I have ever been to - that is for darn sure. And I haven't even seen it in full action! My brief trip to Floridian Social Club was for pre - dinner cocktails. Which tasted divine. They have a few signature drinks mixed in with some traditional ones, as well as beer on tap and a few wines btg. Nothing special about the wines available, unless you're looking to celebrate with a $100 bottle of Veuve. I had the loveliest server and I loved the atmosphere, I think they did a really nice job overall. I would hope they might consider switching out some of the glassware. The glasses that water is served in are darling buttttttt they have a cheap "gold" rim that was flaking off into the water. So maybe bring a water bottle? I look forward to going back for some live music, from what I understand it's epic. Also echoing a few other reviews about offering a nosh or 2. That would really help me stay and drink longer!

Yelp
This place is great and the original woodwork inside is beautiful!! Such a cool venue!

Yelp
A great event space! We had our spring ball here and it was wonderful! Amazing dancers, bartenders were very professional and efficient, prices aren't too bad, lights and music were great. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Have to be fair.... Service here recently has really stepped up, the bartenders are engaging and attentive and it's only fair to shout them out for that and thank them. From the warm door staff to the bartenders to the servers the energy here is hospitable and fun
google avatar

Yelp
This is the coolest, hippest fun bar happening in the city right now! Great vibe and a 1940's feel! Great bartenders and amazing mixed drinks Incredible space to see live music! Weekends get busy but plenty of room to see amazing bands and music The waitstaff are fast and friendly and the outfits fit the space! This will be an incredible place to see bigger name bands in an intimate setting! The location is perfect to walk to right in the middle of central ave. Try the mixed drinks when you go A Manhattan or sazersc would be my go to!

Yelp
Pit first experience at the Floridian Social Club was a few weeks ago. My husband and I went with friends to see a Jazz group. The venue is spectacular, love the large dance floor. It was so fun to watch everyone dance to the great music. My husband and I decided to practice our dance moves before we return and we will return!
google avatar

Sammie D.

Yelp
This place is so classy! They have live music and amazing drinks! It reminds me of something you would've seen in the Great Gatsby! We stopped in to check it out after a long day at work and they were setting up for a show while a singer was entertaining the bar, he had a great voice! I'd love to go back and check out the main area sometime!
google avatar

Donovan W.

Yelp
Proper music hall. Greatly acoustics. Great venue. Have not been disappointed there yet.

Avrie R.

Yelp
the Floridian is an amazing venue! cameron was an attentive & wonderful server! will be returning!
google avatar

Sydney U.

Yelp
Elegant concert venue with delicious cocktails! The bartenders were all very friendly and made the drinks to perfection. Definitely a classy nightclub for adults. I would recommend stopping in for a cocktail if you are in the area!

Cheryl P.

Yelp
My experience could be a little different as as we came into town for a 50th birthday party and the entire upstairs was rented out for our group. We loved the venue, the music, the acts in between music sets, but WOW... the bartenders (and drinks!) were out of this world!! Lily and Rodnay were UNBELIEVABLE! We had around 75 people hitting that bar hard for more than 3 hours and they NEVER stopped hustling. They were taking multiple orders at once, quickly making drinks, keeping the bar clean, all while smiling and chit chatting with our group. If I had to say anything negative, it would probably be that the music was extremely loud and made it next to impossible to have a conversation. But, we were there to socialize, so if you are just going in to listen to the music, that wouldn't be an issue.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Do yourself a massive favor and catch this bar in a night when they don't have a live show going on. After 11, the vibe is perfect. Trippy lights towards the back, young beautiful people hanging on each other at the bar. The bartenders are great and the drink menu fantastically unique. At one point I had the bartender make me what she thought I might like based on what I had already ordered and she did not disappoint. They make your drinks with a little flare and not rushed.
google avatar

Patricia R.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! Beautiful inside! I felt like I was in a swanky dinner club in Havana! Went to see the Stormbringer band, and sat at a table on the floor. Reservations are only for groups of six or more and I think you are seated upstairs. There was a $50 minimum at the table but that was easy enough for me and my husband, but please note they don't serve food. They had some acrobat aerialists doing a preshow and intermission show that was absolutely fabulous! The band rocked! I wish there was a place near me like this but at least I got a great vacation memory.
google avatar

Brigitte P.

Yelp
We happened upon the Floridian on a random parent-night-out and boy is this place a find. First of all, it is beautiful. Just stunning! The center bar, the furniture, the details - just glorious. We came on a night with no cover, but a live band and sat at the bar. The bartenders were incredibly knowledgable and efficient - each was probably working on 3-5 drinks at a time without breaking a sweat. My first drink was the Legit Business Meeting - a rye-forward, no-frills drink and my second was the Napoleon Complex (literally the opposite). I also asked the bartender if they were working on anything in particular and he brought out this amazing drink that was super lemon forward - and of course I can't remember the name. All in all a FANTASTIC experience that we will be repeating soon!

Chris G.

Yelp
I love this venue! Reserve seats if you're going with friends!! Never had a bad time and every bit of music we've been to see is great! Decent beverage selection! Multiple bourbons to choose from!
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Awesome renovation of the old State Theater into a beautiful speakeasy social club. Live music, great vibe, and unreal interior and exterior! Kudos to the ownership! Circle bar great for mingling and plenty of room for large groups!

Kelsey Y.

Yelp
Came here for a Galentine's day event, and the entire evening was a joke. Basically paid cover to have drinks spilled on me and to be squeezed together like sardines. I don't drink, and waited 45 minutes in the upstairs bar for a bottle of water and the male bartender refused to give me the time of day and only waited on customers who were paying for alcohol. On other days this place is great, good ambiance and music but skip for events like this.
google avatar

T W.

Yelp
Came here for a show with Savants of Soul and Honey What and it was absolutely amazing! You absolutely cannot catch the vibe from the outside! The venue is clean and spacious for dancing with tables ($150 drink min to get a table) and the atmosphere is wonderful. I don't drink so I can't talk about the cocktails but the bartenders were super sweet when I ordered and orange juice. They also have small self-serve water and cups near the bar. The bands were AMAZING and I really had a great time. The only thing was that we thought they had food from previous reviews but they do not, unless they only serve during certain hours so make sure you grab a bite before you go. I will defo be going again!
google avatar

Amelia W.

Yelp
With the small amount research I did before coming here I understood that it used to be a theater they've kept the architecture of the theater wonderfully. there's a space down below with tons of tables for seating to watch the live music and performance. If you go upstairs all of the original theater chairs are there for you to sit and watch the show and drink. They even have a bar upstairs. I think that the place itself could be decorated more to give a better blues vibe but as far as being a new location this is a very fun place to come dress up and have a good night with your friends. If you wanna get a seat down below I'd come early though because they fill up fast!

Sara E.

Yelp
I wanted to do something a little different this Christmas and I got tickets to the night before Christmas performance. I paid an extra $50 for a table, what a waste venue was pretty empty. Anyway, I arrive for my 6:30 performance which was supposed to be the movie and performance and was told we apologize the performance will be after the 8:30pm show. This was never shown, didn't even know there was an 8:30 show. It was a last minute thing. So obviously I could see the movie at home. The lady told me they'd hold my table and I could come back for 8:30pm show. This really threw our vacation schedule off whack not to mention we didn't do dinner with friends to attend the show. So now there's no show until 8:30 and we have to come up with something for 2 hours. We came back at 8:15pm venue was still pretty empty. The movie started. It was so loud and the bass was so loud, I could feel the vibration in my head. Well as loud as the movie was there was a party of 6 behind us who were trying to speak over the movie,so they were basically screaming. My daughter and I ordered an expresso martini because it was the only drink on the menu that sounded tasteful. They had no Heineken so my husband didn't drink. Our martinis arrived they were drinkable but not enjoyable. 20 minutes into the movie my head started to pound, my husband was like between the movie and the loud table behind it was unbearable. I asked our waitress if they could lower the volume and she said she was seeing because some other people had also complained of how loud it was. I waited around another 20 minutes in which we gave the martinis and extra chance and maybe they'd help ease the pain of the extremely high volume. The 2nd round was worse and after all that time I had a full blown migraine and we left because it was truly unbearable. Horrible experience!

Yelp
THE best bar in St Pete. We go so often that our friends are actually annoyed lol. Not only is the music always amazing, but the drinks are some of the best I've had. The dirty martini is my favorite, & for some reason it's best when it's from the top level haha. The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated! The energy is so fun, any night of the week. Everything from the bathrooms to the drink glasses, each detail is epic. The perfect place to bring guests, go on a date, or hangout & dance with friends.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Awesome club! Remodeled with great decorating. Venue is perfect for intimate concert. Our group paid for VIP seating behind Velvet ropes and loved the privacy. We saw the band No Filter and they were exhilarating!!! Tons of singer and instruments.

Yelp
Tonight was a soft opening with first come first served the old bank has a fun speakeasy vibe there are 2 bars and many lounge areas for sipping and socializing. Plenty of cocktail tables and seating by stage on the main floor. Upstairs you will find the second bar a professional lighting/sound crew. Along either side there you will find stadium style theatre seating. This is some additional info from their Facebook listing. This Friday night, the doors of the Floridian Social Club open up and it's your chance to experience this historic concert venue with The Black Honkeys Band christening the stage for it's public debut. Doors will open at 7PM, Showtime starts at 8PM till 10PM. After the show, the party will continue as you really get a good look at how cool this place is. With a limited number of first come first serve attendees. For this grand evening of introduction, the Floridian will open it's doors without admission. That's right, it is free to attend. That's why it's suggested you get there early. We expect to meet guest Capacity early. All current Covid guidelines will be in effect, Masks will be required to enter, social distancing will be expected. Both the venue, staff and the band ask everyone to please cooperate so that this can be a successful start to what will be a premier venue for future events. About the Venue: The Club began life as a bank in 1925 before being transformed into a single-screen movie theater. Designated a Local Historic Landmark in 1991, more recently it was home to the landmark State Theater concert venue, until years of physical and financial decline closed the venue in 2018. Recently it has undergone a million-dollar-plus renovation to become the Floridian Social Club: a lounge, concert venue, and event space in the heart of the city's downtown Central Avenue district. https://www.floridiansocialclub.com

John C.

Yelp
If you buy a ticket to an event at this place, you will get 3-4 text message per week about future events. If you want them to stop texting , there is no way to even ask about it. they do not publish any phone number for this "club" or Eventbrite. so if you have a problem with any ticket or event, you can't call them . Oh, and you will continue to get texts forever.

Yelp
We attended the no filter concert last night and found this venue in bands like this to be phenomenal. The additional acts Prior to the concert were amazing. Nice touch, we will definitely be back

Yelp
Love this place. The bartenders are fantastic. The cocktails are absolutely on the Mixology level. The venue itself is pristine and very well kept. Crowd is laid back and genuinely there to vibe whoever is playing the Main Venue. Great place to chill out and enjoy cocktails that are well crafted and substantial.
