Okay I've been twice at this point and for what they offer I recommend. Service is great ! Bartenders are friendly and very attentive. Happy hour is 5-7pm food and drinks on the menu. I love the Wagyu Hot Dog. And these Funyuns were a first and also very tasty. I had oysters my first time and they were great and the bartender gifted me my own little Tabasco to go lol so to me if you're looking for more a quick bite, chat and chew with some drinks Stateside is good and it's lowkey not too mixy. Outdoor seating cute and a plus. Oh and i forgot the guy bartenders name but his playlist be lit ! Lol

Jacqui is the best bartender we have ever had. She is always personable, awesome drink recommendations, fast accurate service. Will request every time we can.

Didn't bring our food out together. We had to get our own drinks. They took almost over an hour and a half to bring out my boyfriend's food. I paid for everyone. So I paid $63+ for three oysters and one drink. They even gave us some money off of our check. But the portions are small for what you're paying.

I went to Stateside for the first time last night and everything we ordered was really good! White wine, champagne, an old fashioned, and the wheat beer were all very refreshing! Then the food knocked it out of the park - delicious fresh oysters packed in ice with sides of cocktail sauce, vinaigrette, and lemon; crunchy and juicy shrimp tempura seasoned perfectly; and shishito peppers that were fresh and deliciously salted! We were so happy with everything and it really elevated the whole night. The restaurant seemed slightly understaffed so a little slow but very good and kind and helpful!

Stateside is an absolute gem for those seeking a vibrant and welcoming spot to unwind. The ambiance exudes a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, making it perfect for a night out with friends or a casual date. The staff is friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. George’s recommendations were spot-on and his expertise in suggesting the perfect drink based on preferences was noteworthy. He made my husbands first ever Old Fashioned and my husband is intrigued to say the least. And the oysters. Not trying to be dramatic, but those are the best oysters we’ve ever had.

I just had, potentially, the greatest burger of my life. Definitely top 3 all time. The Steakhouse Burger, see photo, was transcendent. It tasted like a perfectly seasoned ribeye, but in burger form. The bourbon that comes with the burger complements it perfectly. I do recommend pairing it with the Breckenridge Nitro Vanilla Porter. The staff are absolutely fantastic. My buddy left his credit card here last week, and George kept it safe for him. If I lived in the area, I would be here regularly. If I could rate one business 6 stars once a year, Stateside would be my 2022 pick. Get the steakhouse burger!

Popped in after dinner nearby. The vibe is overall cool, pretty standard bar vibes. The bartenders were really pleasant, which was nice. The reason I rated it only 3/5 stars was that we ordered the one IPA option (fine to only have 1) and what we got was either not an IPA (the wrong beer) or super super flat (the end of a keg/bad supply). There were two orders of the same beer and both were this way, so it was overall just not a good drink.

Yelp
TLDR: food and drinks were great, wait staff was awful. Came here for happy hour with my friends, and our waitress was absolutely terrible. She gave us attitude for trying to clean up the previously used table, as well as "loitering" on the sidewalk. By the way, half the bar is outdoors on the public sidewalk. Also, we had brought drinks from a previous bar, which made us receive even more attitude from this waitress due to "not being able to bring alcohol from other places". This would be a totally understandable and easy thing to rectify if handled kindly. No where on the premise are there signs on the PUBLIC sidewalk that we can't bring drinks from a previous bar, nor did she communicate to us in a kind manor that we could not have drinks on the sidewalk. It is legal in Philly to have open containers while walking around, so the attitude and disrespect to multiple members of my party was unacceptable. During the majority of our time, this waitress was chit-chatting with her friends instead of doing her job, and bringing them multiple drinks. It is unfortunate because this bar is super cool, but our waitress was so mean that my review has to be so low. Pics for proof we were here!

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been to Stateside and a lot has changed. They're a pretty solid Vodka brand now and I do purchase their seltzers from the liquor store. No more food which was okay for the visit today. We were waiting for a dinner reservation and wanted to have a few drinks first. Surprisingly Stateside had an open bar and a few open tables. As soon as we walked in the staff started greeting us. In fact the entire time we were there until we walked out the staff was phenomenal. Great personalities, friendly and knowledgeable. We had a few of their mixed drinks and a seltzer before we left. They have a full bar so anything you want is available. My favorite was the Sazerac, I hadn't had any since my time in New Orleans so aside from the rainy cold weather, this transported me back temporarily. The other drinks were good, I think one was called a Rum Smash, but my problem with mixed drinks is when they're good, they go down way too easy. I like to taste a little alcohol. But I won't hold my issues against Stateside. A fun place, a great location and a great staff. I'm happy I came back after they dropped the food, I will return.

Yelp
My husband and I had a Groupon for the distillery tour and we enjoyed it very much. We tried a shot of pickle infused vodka and it was very smooth. The tour guide was knowledgeable. It's a small but fun distillery.

Yelp
With Spring finally upon us, I gotta say...one of the smartest things we did was choose to check out Stateside on one of the first warm weathered nights of the year. The build of the restaurant itself is quite unique - very open air, with the bar being open to both the inside and out. It not only gave it a great vibe and made it feel much larger than it actually was, but it also provided a consistent breeze and fresh air throughout the night. While our food was good, it definitely felt like a place you'd sooner go to just get drinks. Their food menu is quite small, and I saw more people simply enjoy seating outside and hanging with friends. That said, the type of food isn't anything you can't find at the next local bar (burgers, wings, fries, etc.) I will say, I felt like their burger was one of the best I have had in awhile. It was cooked perfectly. I personally loved their pairing of the onion jam and pickles. Each bite packed a punch of sweet and salty. Specifically, I thought the burger was really well played with the pickles being cut long and flat, that covered the entire bottom bun. A lot of little details that led to a delicious sandwich. Beyond that, something notable about their fries was the curry ketchup - REALLY interesting! Keep in mind - parking in Passyunk is really tough. They don't make reservations. So be thoughtful in your timing and preparation for parking.

Great drinks choices and love the ambiance of an indoor/outdoor bar on a great sunny day

Yelp
Heads up for anyone visiting--Stateside Bar has two bathrooms: one for men only and another for both men and women. Unfortunately, the lock on the second one isn't working. Hope they fix it soon!

Yelp
Stateside is what you'd expect when you see something like a 'pickled beet martini' and octopus on the menu (which is what I ordered). A little pricey but it was satisfying so I wasn't upset. The upsetting part was my partner's chicken sandwich. It was so expensive, very tiny, and didn't come with any side (fries, salad, etc.). I would recommend the octopus if that's your kind of thing.

Yelp
Service was terrible. There was only one bartender and I tried to get her attention first time, she said "hold on one second" then she continued to help other customers. Then when she was done, I said "excuse me" again for her to turn around and put her finger up and say one second again. At the point we got up and left. Not going there again. Lost a customer. Good drinks but awful service.

Yelp
I hate to do it. But this experience was on the sub-par side. So, full disclosure, we were trying to make it for brunch at The Dutch which closes at 2. We got there at 145 and service was unavailable. We looked around and landed here. Before entering, I asked if they served brunch. They do. All good. I should have looked at the menu, though. They did have French toast, egg dish, burger and fries but it was a very limited menu. I went with the two eggs any way but should have looked closer at the menu. It stated eggs my way with potatoes but I guess I took it for granted that there would be toast. How can one eat eggs without toast? Especially if you order sunny side up? No toast. I asked. Eggs, potatoes that was it. If you want breakfast meat, that is not available. My kid ordered eggs cooked medium and the yolk ran. I had one egg sunny and one egg hard. I ordered a mimosa and it came with a cap of foam (See photo. I hadn't even had a drink of it yet) and when I approached the bartender, she explained that's how mimosas appear if they are fresh. Huh? She was nice. But in all of my years (and SO many mimosas) I've never been served a mimosa like this and was perplexed as to how this made it to a paying customer? I also commented that the glass wasn't filled and she told me that was as "high as they fill their mimosas" which seemed weird. The cheese plate was sparse (grapes were cut in half) and when we asked for more bread it wasn't toasted like the first portion. There were a couple of cocktails that were decent but I can not at ALL recommend the brunch. I think they should take it off of their menu. No toast? No meat? Fourteen dollars for two sub-par eggs and potatoes? Nope. Sorry. This was one disappointing place.

Yelp
Stateside was our first stop Friday night. Super fun and great pickies. Loved their $5 happy hour drinks. Was a great find and a super way to start off our night!

Yelp
I'm going with 3 stars because they were apparently understaffed, so the slow service wasn't too big of a deal. It took a while for the server to come to our table but once he did we didn't have any issues with service from there. The cocktails were presented very nicely and tasted delicious, which is great, but leads me to the perplexing nature of my following complaint: the charcuterie. The charcuterie was served in a plastic takeout container (mind you we were eating indoors at a table, totally traditional dining). The mustard and almonds came in individual plastic containers as well, with the 12 or so crackers provided wrapped inside a zip lock bag. The meat was okay - it was served alongside sliced cucumber which I found to be a pretty odd pairing but whatever. The icing on the cake was the packet of Kraft honey that you would expect to get at McDonald's which we didn't bother to use. Granted this was not the world's most expensive charcuterie, but come on. It felt like we were being served a Lunchables meal alongside craft cocktails. With the level of presentation of the cocktails being relatively high we were just perplexed by this charcuterie which was a total joke of a dish. EDIT: I saw from other reviews after posting mine that the charcuterie is not usually served like this which makes me wonder why my party was served a sub-par dish without any explanation. For a place that charges $14 for drinks, I would expect my charcuterie to be served on some type of board or plate even and not to have to squeeze Kraft honey out of a little ketchup type packet that I'm sharing with multiple people. I'm pretty angry about this in hindsight, lowering my rating to 2 stars. Photos below.

Yelp
Wagu hot dog and fries were excellent. Drinks we'll die. A bit costly if you're in a budget.

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I went with my friends (professional oyster slurpers) to Stateside, located in the East Passyunk area of Philadelphia. Passyunk is the classic "old-school" area of Philadelphia that's been renovated with plenty of delicious restaurants. Stateside focuses on only domestic spirits and supports local farmers. Everything in-house is made stateside, get it They had probably over 100 different types of whiskeys and rye. Although it was happy hour, we didn't partake in any drinks, just the food. As for happy hour, it goes from 5-7 pm daily and includes Buck-a-Shuck oysters, 1/2 off drafts, $5 old fashions and $5 house wines. We ordered 6 oysters each that were on happy hour special. They had a few other varieties, mostly from the west coast but those weren't included in the specials. They were served all the accouterments- hot sauce, horseradish, vinaigrette, and lemons. I like being able to choose what I put on my oysters, not have the restaurant tell me what I should enjoy. We also ordered the Lobster & shrimp deviled eggs: saffron, bacon, and pickled mustard seed. I'm personally not a huge deviled egg fan but my friends seemed to love it. I didn't care for the saffron sauce, because it overpowered everything. The lobster was a nice addition, but I felt it was masked. Additionally, we got the Shishito peppers and tomatoes. This was my favorite thing that we ordered. The peppers had a great char on them and the tomatoes were cut thick. The acidity balanced everything out. Lastly, we got the charcuterie board. I was kind of disappointed in the charcuterie board. It came with grilled halloumi, duck prosciutto, and pulled pork. Additionally, there were apples, carrots, pickled jalapenos, quince paste, and roasted peanuts. The duck prosciutto was amazing. It was such a good texture, would order a pound of this to snack on. As for the halloumi cheese, I thought it had a rubbery texture. The pulled pork was extremely crispy. If I knew it would have been like the crispy ends, I would have liked it better, but I expected a much moister product. All in all, Stateside was okay. The happy hour specials were nothing crazy and the food on the menu was better than the average bar. It definitely has elevated American classics. I love the concept of having everything made within the United States and using local farmers when applicable. The whiskey selection is definitely worth the visit. I would recommend sitting outside to enjoy the charm of south Philly.

Yelp
Stateside is one of my neighborhood bars and I have been here so many times! In recent years, I feel that the quality and service has become sub-par! I do not love it the way I used to. I'm not sure if it is the establishment itself, or it just can't compete alongside the newer places nearby. I mostly only come here for Happy Hour nowadays as the deals are fantastic! They typically have half-priced drafts, buck-a-shuck oysters, and whiskey specials. It is a great location with lots of potential, and a great view of Passyunk Avenue!

Yelp
Stateside has an OUTSTANDING Happy Hour that compliments the attentive quality of service. This place has been on my list for some time. I love walking past this corner bar. Outside wooden stools (looking into the restaurant), while the bar seating (indoor) overlooks those patrons and the action of Passyunk. Get ready to get cozy with your neighbor. It's not a big bar but it has a lot to offer in atmosphere. Happy Hour consists of $1 Oysters (West Coast Oyster prices are a tad higher), half off beers, discounted wines and more. It's a never ending smorgasbord.

Yelp
I recently tried Stateside on a weekday to celebrate a friend's birthday and really enjoyed my experience. We arrived on E Passyunk worried we would have a hard time finding street parking, but found plenty of open meters. We lucked out and ours was out of order, so we didn't have to pay it (score!). We walked into Stateside just as their happy hour ended (at 7pm), but they kindly offered to get our first round of drinks at happy hour pricing. They have a great selection of vodka and whiskey cocktails, and I enjoyed the $5 Old Fashioned. Their menu offers a rotating selection of small plates. We asked our waitress how many we should order and she recommended at least one per person to then share. We wound up nearly ordering one of everything. The highlights: - Roasted Duck with Fall Vegetables: crispy duck with a medley of Brussels sprouts, potatoes, and some type of aioli. We enjoyed this enough to order a second plate! - Gnocchi with Mushrooms --- soft, pillowy gnocchi with well seasoned mushrooms and a buttery sauce - Hushpuppies --- featuring pork, pickled onions, and some hot peppers I was particularly impressed that they brought out a round of mini cocktails and a plate of beignets on the house to celebrate my friend's birthday, simply because we had made note on our OpenTable reservation --- such a nice touch! Our server was readily available, but left us alone to socialize even after the food was done. I appreciated not being rushed out the moment our plates were empty, instead adopting the more European way of waiting for us to request a check. All in all, we had a great experience and I look forward to going back.

Yelp
I've only been here for oysters and cocktails. The oysters are decently priced and pretty good here. They are well shucked and fresh. This spot also has a really good beer list. But I love the old fashioneds here. Their happy hour cocktails are $5! The space is a bit small and the bar can fill up fast, but it has a cool modern decor. The window in the front of the building opens up to a bar when it's nice out. This is one of my favorite cocktail spots on East Passyunk.
google avatar

Jaime H.

Yelp
Made our way to Stateside during the snow storm. I've been meaning to get around to this cute little corner spot. The service was extremely friendly and laid back. The server was nice enough to get us started the second we sat down to make the ending of the Happy Hour Specials. ($5 house wines, old fashions) next time I'll have to try the food out. Everywhere kept mentioning the $1 oysters and some other specials. Can't wait to get back there in the warm weather. Large windows open up with "swim up bar out door seating" not sure any other spot in Philly has any concept even close to that? Great vibes and service.

Yelp
Love the Feel of this place. Passyunk Ave has become a cool place to hang out. A 180° turn from what it was when I lived here (when dinosaurs roamed). There are now great restaurants and awesome bars on every block. Stateside is a great example of this change. Please note that I didn't eat here. I just hung out and had a couple of different craft beers with friends. The huge street side windows open up to create a bar on the sidewalk (or you can go inside). Someone with a good sense of "how to repurpose stuff" used old high school cafeteria swivel seats to create seating on the sidewalk. These can be raised or lowered to fit the occupant. The servers have a great attitude and the whole place has an awesome "feel". They offer a nice selection of craft brews, decent wines and various liquors. One person had the duck salad and said it was wonderful. I will definitely check it out again.

Yelp
The board was terrible. Looked like they wanted to show us we got ripped off. Service was nice but it seemed they didn't like the product. Pretty sad.

Yelp
Happy hour Oysters $1.25 East Side Oysters only (my fave) and selective drinks as well (old fashion - pretty decent) The oysters were delicious. I got both west and east side to compare the two. In my opinion they differ from origin, shell and taste. West- WA, ruffled/deep cut shell, sweet, and more sea tasting. East- MA, smooth/subtle/less-of-the-sea taste. (My preference, everyone has their own) Came here during happy hour on a Tuesday. Not too busy so was seated right away. The waitress was very nice and explained the menu well. I also got a charcuterie board - it's was okay. I don't think the flavors, items went too well together. But that's just me. Individually they were fine but I didn't like some of the items on there but it's was okay.

Yelp
I had the best service at Stateside. My wife and kids got some hot dogs from Primal Meats across the street and couldn't find a seat at the fountain so we figured we'd get a drink at Stateside if they let us eat our hot dogs there. I wouldn't have been shocked if they said no, but they were totally welcoming. They even brought out water for my kids and dog! My wife and I just had one drink each but they were really cool. Thanks!

Yelp
My long-awaited visit to stateside, while enjoyable, didn't live up to the hype. The food was good, no doubt, but a bit pricey and not as outrageously tasty as i suspected based on other reviews. The specialty drinks? Again good - but not great. A little small and perhaps to scientifically apportioned for my taste. I'll take the drinks at Franklin Mortgage for inspired cocktails. Cool ambiance - a little dark for me , but OK. I guess I really expected more for the money. While above average, not enough to draw me back for seconds.

Yelp
Great bar with a really nice atmosphere and vibe. The cocktails are phenomenal and the beer selection is wide-ranging. There's outdoor seating that wraps around the bar; it makes you feel like you're at the shore. The view from the other side is the iconic Singing Fountain of East Passyunk. I only give 4/5 instead of 5/5 because the food leaves a little to be desired. They have some great bar bites including charcuterie and oysters, but nothing that'll fill you up for the rest of the day.

Yelp
A must in South Philly! I can't believe I'd never been here before. Oysters are $1.25 during Happy Hour, and Old Fashioned drinks are $5! Very posh ambience, and decent service.

Yelp
Chef Geno Betz is very talented young chef. If you have not tried his cuisine, I highly recommend a trip. Cocktails are spot on with great balance. Their selection of whiskeys and bourbons is a plus.

Yelp
We had a delicious time at stateside. We arrived at happy hour and were served perfect whiskey drinks. We shared a cheese board that was presented with ample sized pieces of cheese, honey, apple butter The thin sliced baguette was super fresh and actually notable. The happy hour menu boasts dollar oysters that were super fresh and delicious. I also had the broiled oysters that were reminiscent of New Orleans. I would go back to Stateside just to have more of those delicious gems. Our server was upbeat and speedy with our drink refills. The menu at stateside is more of a bar snacks small plates menu with no real entrées but the food they serve is top notch. I'm looking forward to going back and can't wait to try more things on the menu. This bar is charming and pretty cool and that doesn't need to try to hard because it just is really good at what it is.

Yelp
Most unprofessional customer service experience Ive ever seen and Ive worked in food service for over 10 years. Whoever the man is that hosts inside on saturday nights has no right to his job with that behavior. The place used to be great, made friends with the bartenders the first time I went. Now, I may never go again.

Yelp
Alrighty then... where to begin. This place is in a great neighborhood, has a really cool set up (love the outside-inside bar.... would only have been made better if you could swim up to it), the food and cocktails are amazing. I came here with a friend that was visiting from DC and had never been to Philly before. I wanted to show her the "cooler" parts of town that most people wouldnt think to take someone on their first trip (aka places that I like to go!). She loved the set up and we had an awesome time chatting with the bar tenders. The food was awesome- I had the shishito peppers and grilled tomato salad and the edamame dumplings. Both were fresh and delicious. My friend has MAJOR food restrictions, which i know can be a pain in the ass to deal with. However, the bar tenders and the cooks were so so accommodating and really made it an awesome night. Looking forward to having this on my "rotation" as I bar hop my way around town when i have out of town guests!

Yelp
Not bad! Came here for happy hour because they have $5 old fashioneds along with some small plates. The cocktail was decent, but v. strong-tasting. I had one of the happy hour oysters - I was that annoying b*tch that made the kitchen prepare the whole setup of ice and sauces and lemon for one single oyster _ which was fresh and pretty delicious. We got the cheese plate, which was v. photogenic and delicious. Staff are really sweet. My main complaint is that it was pretty hot inside the restaurant. We were there on a particularly hot weekend, and the air-con was definitely running, but we were all a little uncomfortably warm.
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
Will always go back again and again for their happy hour. 5$ old fashion and $1 oysters and the best outside open bar. I have never actually had a meal here. But the service is great, they welcome dogs and even give them water and a bone!
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
This place was such a great serendipitous end to a great philly trip. The open windows and outside bar seats were exactly what we needed. Great ambience, views, food and drinks but the cherry on top was our bartender! He added such a fun and welcoming vibe to the place and watching him make our (DELICIOUS) cocktails was how he made it look like an art. And the food was pretty damn good too. Go here on a lazy summer Sunday afternoon. You can write me a thank you note later
google avatar

Yelp
Cocktails are the best. Atmosphere is pretty great. Service is ok, but there is nothing friendly or welcoming about anyone there. Customer service is the worst.

Yelp
So I'm wandering Passyunk Ave checking out the scene and I pop into Stateside. I did what one of the servers called the "Stateside Double Take." I thought I'd been caught in one of those Star Trek transporter beams and zapped over to Rittenhouse Square! This place doesn't look like it belongs on Passyunk Ave. It's a tiny, beautifully appointed contemporary space. It's immediately apparent that you won't be ordering a cheese steak wit. I stopped by just to have a drink as I was heading for another event. As I sipped on premium vodka from California I perused the menus. It was clear that this place focuses on small plates. The choices looked delicious and the friendly bartender answered all my questions. I had and opportunity to see some of the food served to other patrons and it was beautifully plated. My limited visit for just a drink was a pleasure. I've bookmarked this place and plan to bring the lovely wife for what I expect will be a memorable dinner.

Yelp
I've never had the chance to eat here, but we always stop here when we are in the area, the bar seats are the prime stop of this bar. I love looking out onto the square and people watch with a nice cocktail. The bartenders mix a mean cocktail and are quite chatty and give great advice on places to patron in the area. I noticed that the plates coming out of the kitchen are nicely presented and the aroma of the grill octopus the last time we were there made us want to try it, had we not already had dinner reservations that evening. This is definitely a must try if you are ever in the area.

Yelp
Truly outstanding meal. I was visiting a friend in Philly for the weekend and after a gorgeous (55 degrees in January) day in the city, we decided to try out Stateside for dinner. My friend, a fellow foodie and food blogger, had been hearing rave reviews and seeing food porn-esque photos all over Instagram so we succumbed to the lure of Stateside. And I'm so glad we did. The small plates menu is simply epic. The beer and wine list is perfectly adequate (draft brews list = niiice!). Whiskey and bourbon selection is impressive. And the service is remarkable-- especially commendable for a fairly new restaurant. I overheard the waitress saying they've only been open for two months! We started with some funky sour cherry beers and a plate of Bayley Hazen bleu cheese with salted bacon caramel. @#$%%$#$. Goooorgeous flavor medley. In addition to the bleu cheese, we opted to share several selections from the small plate offerings. And, it's safe to say, we made all of the right choices. But I think it's hard to go wrong here. Read 'em and drool: -Foie Gras & butternut squash mousse, spread on baguette slices with blood orange gelee and parsley. -Housemade duck sausage with sweet potato, sour cherry mustard, and frisee salad -(nightly special) charred octopus with blood orange and fingerling potatoes. This was our least favorite of the small plates, because it didn't have a ton of flavor The star of the night: Crispy maple glazed pork belly with fried nora mills grits, gala apples, and spiced cider jus...YOWZA!! The entire bill rang up less than $70....with 5 small plates (which were still generous in size) and two beers, that ain't so bad!

Yelp
The chef's board was a delicious way to start the meal with its charcuterie and pickled vegetables. The chicory salad was a delightful palate cleanser. The rigatoni was hearty and filling while the coq au vin was sublime. Worth the trip. It wasn't too loud or bright and was a nice spot for a first date. The waiter was a little pushy with the alcohol sales--when I ordered sparkling water he replied, "No alcohol from the bar?" A minor gaffe with what was otherwise impeccable service.

Yelp
Amazing food amazing atmosphere and amazing people! I would definitely recommend the jerk salmon with Brussels sprouts and thyme infused pineapple. Plus the charcuterie is a pleasing platter to the tastebuds!

Yelp
I haven't actually dined at Stateside since the super-hot George Sabatino era and sorely missed Elijah Milligan days, but I can say it is currently a great place to have a few tasty and creative cocktails before dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants on East Passyunk Ave (Noord, Fond, Laurel, Will, and Le Virtu being my current favs, and looking forward to Townsend). I recently enjoyed (see photos): ~"Bee Sting" with Uncle Val's Botanical Gin, Lemon, Honey, Absinthe ~"Short & Stout" with Old Grand-Dad Bourbon, Vanilla, Whole Egg, Stout I tweeted a photo of the latter on Twitter and Old Grand-Dad himself replied: "I'll have you know I'm a tall, svelte fellow. But that drink looks delicious, however named!" LOL! Stateside is also one of the few Philly bars to offer several different bottlings of Pappy Van Winkle bourbons, although they probably only have one bottle of each so these sell out, and what they may have at the moment will vary. The 15 year-old Family Reserve was 30 per ounce (totally worth it!), and 23 year-old was $60 per ounce. These are served in small grappa or sprit glasses...high-proof, so sniff without swirling! Will have to try new Chef Kevin D'Egidio's (ex-Will) cooking one of these days...

Yelp
Ok the service was really good Steve was great. The food was a little over priced for the portions. I ordered the St. Louis ribs $12 I got two pieces all bone at least give four pieces the slack of ribs only cost $24 at the supermarket. The short rib arancini $12 needs some love it has no flavor and poor Steve recommended this dish to us. The grilled chicken wings was good, but not oh my god tho. It cost $11 for seven wings. Now the grilled octopus $14 was good. I didn't mind spending money on that, I got two orders. The Dessert ahaha.....it was a size of the dollar coin and not that great neither. The soup plate was way to big for the dessert lol. The oysters was good, fresh, clean and they was on happy hour for a $1 each the drinks was good and on happy hour 5-7pm Old fashion $5, wine...red or white $5 and half off beers. This was my first time here most likely my last. Cute bar tho!!

Yelp
The only reason I give Stateside five stars are for their Bartenders and the close proximity to my house. Oh and hey, one of the best bourbon selections in the city!! Tonight I arrived at 9:30. The server told me immediately to sit where ever I wanted because table service and food service were over. I was disappointed because I was hungry and wanted to eat before I sampled the amazing bourbon selection Stateside has. My friend and I sat at a table and were confused if we had to order with the server or go through the Bartenders to get a drink. After flagging down The server, he came over and was quickly swept away and we were just as quickly ignored by another table closing out their check. Shortly after some bar guests left so my friend and I quickly moved from a table to the bar. The two Bartenders made us suddenly feel comfortable and at home. We asked numerous questions about the specialty cocktails they were making and they answered proud of what they were doing. They helped us decide on a Maple bourbon martini and a Sazarac. Both out of this world delicious. While at the bar we witnessed the server be quite rude and passive aggressive to new guests arriving at the restaurant so much so we were glad we scored seats at the bar. I thought I was walking into an upscale Passyunk restaurant. The server doubted that for a few but the two Bartenders really made up for it. I will be back but I'll make sure to score a seat at the bar. P.S. Thank you for having such a great bourbon selection. I lived in KY so it's rare to see that up north!!

Yelp
It's a shame that this business is in such a great location and has terrible service and rude staff. I recall coming here for drinks and the staff refused to serve us because they thought my co-worker was drunk when she is in fact from Puerto Rico and has such a strong accent. Such ignorance...

Yelp
I'm perplexed writing this review. It was one of the better meals I will have for under $40 and we ordered a ton of plates if not over ordered, but nothing sang to me to the point where I want to always come back. We had most the menu, the Broccolini was special served cold w/ a curry mayo flavor, assorted pickle plate one of my favorite dishes to snack on, steak tar tar was the absolute winner of the night. On to main plates; the pork slider was pork belly and some dried potato crisps had alot of flavor but maybe under salted? Short rib (they didn't have cheek) was tender and soft, but nothing to die for. The sausage for me was very special and tasted like an elevated version of a ballpark worst with sour kraut, but again borderline felt like something I could possibly make at home. Pork rillettes were smoky flavor and a ham -like taste as it went down very very hard to put down, not something I could ever possibly make at home. The mussels and clams were more like clams, butter soup, bread and a mussel. there were actually 5 mussels in the dish. I'd rather not have any mussels than 1.25 of a mussel for everyone at the table btw $21 dish... I've been to flex mussels and for roughly the space premium they don't fu@k around you'll get a Costco serving worth of mussels for the same price. Would I take a friend from home visiting, absolutely. Would I come back and try more food sadly no. I'm good, it was a one time only thing. They get a 4 because the service was impeccable, the whisky sour will be dreamed about and to taste so many different foods in one sitting is absolutely rare. Go, but I think you'll agree it may be one and done.

Yelp
I really wanted to love it. It was ... okay. Brussel sprouts and cauliflower were amazing. Pate du jour was somewhat tasteless - except for that tiny crystal of salt that made it onto the plate. No mention that it is "de campagne". Major failure. Would not have ordered it - and no, I don't feel I should have to ask. Fois gras was a half-dollar sized portion of a mousseline-like substance. $15 is outrageous for this. Tagliatelle with mushrooms and rabbit risotto were both delicious, but small portion. Smoked duck medallions were a bit dry, again, small portion. Service: waitress said the bartender could not make a pomegranate martini. Not sure why. She suggested a different drink from the menu that would be "fruity". It was made with gin. C'mon - recommending a gin drink to replace a vodka drink? We asked her if 4 appetizers and 2 entrees would be enough. She agreed. Portions are very small - even the entrees - so when the rabbit risotto came out, we ordered the tagliatelle. We were still hungry at the conclusion of the meal.

Yelp
When I heard the chef that made Stateside the number one restaurant in Philly for 2012 was leaving and than realize the week of I still hadn't made it there my friends and I on the second to last night took a chance at getting a spot at the bar. We lucked out and after waiting in the not really meant for standing bar area with a beer we lucked out and snagged a seat. And it was well worth it. Stateside is small but the bar was pretty cool, we tired some of the cocktails in addition to the beer. If your in a small group of 2 or 3 its a great place to hang out but definitely not good for large group there just not a ton of space. I want to make it back here now that is warmer out for the bar opens up and you can sit outside which expands its size. Plus I need to see how the food is under the new chef.

Yelp
Will people who are complaining about the smallness of the plates please just go to olive garden. To begin, I lived here 22 years ago when it was a few storefronts and the Ac-a-me supermarket. Now the East Passyunk strip is trasformed into a tastefully trendy food mecca. This was our fav place so far. Friendly service is a bit slow. Outdoor tables with tablecloths on a quiet side street and largish bar on the corner walls open to pashunk ave. The food was fantastic under the new chef. Meatballs spicy and unique, octopus tender, mushroom variety and presentation out of this world even if a bit too crispy. And the gnocchi with broccoli perfect. We only got to check out two places with outdoor (i.e. dog friendly) joints but there are loads around. Oh and there is an independent valet parking service on the square! I didn't see that coming to these parts of south Philly.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this place. Great vibe. Great drinks. Good food. The only reasons it's not five stars are: 1- Need some sound deadening acoustics inside. WAY loud for such a small place. 2- the menu....while excellent..is tiny. Otherwise great time. We will go again. Terrific indoor/outdoor space.
