The 22 Best San Antonio Restaurants

"This King William sandwich shop harkens back to the days before restaurants required interior designers with its oilcloth-covered tables and scattershot string lights. The menu allows for salads, pizza, and clamshell-packaged desserts, but the sandwiches draw the longest lines. As with the decor, the sandwich menu pays little mind to the rules. The muffuletta swaps provolone for sharp cheddar cheese, and the Reuben packs its caraway flavor in the sauce instead of the bread. Takeout orders can be placed online or in person; there are indoor dine-in areas." - Brandon Watson

As soon as the door opens you can smell the fresh baked bread! It is a cute spot with a lot of menu options. I do not eat pork or beef so I was happy to see that they had a lot of turkey, chicken, and veggie options! I also love spicy food so I appreciated that they had regular to spicy to spiciest options as well! I ordered the habanero turkey sandwich with a side of chips. Portions are large and flavor is definitely full force! The bread is so fresh and not overly filling, which allowed me to not be miserable after eating the whole sandwich. I am visiting from out of town but will definitely come back here every time I visit!

I ordered 2 sandwiches. The lady at the counter was super friendly. She offered some suggestions when I was sure what to order. I ended up with Philly and a Turkey. Both were a good size. Full of meat. Fresh. And tasted great. I would highly recommend those places to anyone. Thank you for the great food. 😊❤️

I heard about the Pele's Fire sandwich from this place and stopped by to see if it lived up to expectations on the heat. It comes piled high with quality lean roast beef, along with mozzarella cheese, lettuce, and tomato, and it is also slathered with their signature Ghost Pepper Sauce which they claim “should make the Hawaiian Goddess proud”. Their fresh bread is definitely one of the stars of this sandwich, soft and yeasty with a pillowy interior and a homemade taste. But the Ghost Pepper Sauce is what I came for and it delivers on the heat. There is a nice tang from the Ghost Pepper sauce along with a good creaminess, a little bit of sweetness, and a peppery kick. And that burn hits right away! After the first bite, my mouth was on fire, and I wondered if I would be able to finish the sandwich. But I made it all the way through and I enjoyed it! I would put this above Fiery on my scale and creeping towards Insane, and this is for series spice lovers only. On a separate occasion, I tried the Turkey Chupacabra sandwich which is kicked up with a habanero-based sauce. That is a heck of a good turkey sammie and I would put it at Hot on my scale or maybe a bit higher. Consider it a warmup for the Pele's Fire, and if you can successfully tackle the Chupacabra you are ready for the next level. Just a note that this place gets really busy about noon and there is not a whole lot of parking, so plan your trip accordingly. But if you are looking for some heat, this is a good destination.

Came here while visiting from Dallas. Found it on Reddit while looking for non touristy places to eat. It opened at 11, we showed up just after and within 10 minutes after ordering the line was to the door. The food was amazing. You can tell everything is made from scratch. The vegan burger was one of the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had. The sides and drinks (hibiscus mint tea) were also delicious. I would have come back for dinner if we weren’t leaving the same day. I can’t wait to come back to San Antonio, this place will be on the top of my list.

I believe it was muttered, “this has to be one of the top ten sandwiches of my life,” in reference to the White Buffalo Beef specifically.

Great sandwiches and a cool vibe. Tried the Italian which was really good. Fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. Pizza was just ok, IMO. Not bad at all, but not the star of the show. Looking forward to making my way through the menu.

I'm going to start out by telling you that finding a parking space can be a challenge. It's basically street parking. Now that said, even if you have to park down the block- consider it a nice walk and do it. Everything was beautifully fresh. Love the bread, love the meats, love the place!
