Best Sports Bars in Boston | Eater Boston

"This multi-level sports hub in South Boston has 24 TVs so you can catch all the big games in one go. They offer daily dining for a casual bite to eat throughout the week and a weekend brunch that draws a big Sunday football crowd. The only thing better than watching the Pats game is doing it with a Bloody Mary in hand." - Erika Adams

Where to Drink Espresso Martinis in Boston This Winter | Eater

"This Southie bar is reliably bustling on game days when Boston sports fans from throughout the neighborhood flock to the giant TV screens and the eclectic, crowd-pleasing food menu. The team at Stats apparently takes coffee as seriously as they take sports; at least one-third of the house cocktails are made with coffee of some kind. The espresso martini blends Absolut Vanilla vodka and Kahlúa with espresso and a splash of Irish cream liqueur. It’s a pick-me-up that will get you jazzed enough to join in the game-day rumpus, even if you don’t know your blitzes from your bunts." - Molly McDonough

Arrived, was seated …. After 15 minutes not one waitress approached us. 3 of them were behind the bar, playing on their phones…. Talking to eachother … the others were standing in a corner also on their phones. 20 minutes go by, we flagged someone down finally… place was dead and not busy. Just wasn’t impressed with the inattentiveness… food was great..

Google
Ordered last night and had a wonderful experience. Tonight was a different story. I received much less chicken than yesterday. I also got blue cheese after asking for ranch. Then I went back inside and asked for ranch and received blue cheese AGAIN. Decent tenders but after tipping well for tenders two nights in a row during times like this...I'm left to support other establishments willing to take my order seriously. Sad to say quality of chicken was completely off too. These tasted chewy, rubbery dry at times and lukewarm. The ones yesterday were freshly done. Tried one more time and worst than ever burnt, dry and tough.

Google
Rachel B was an amazing server. Food came quick, great conversation about the menu and drinks, she helped a lot. Thank you Rachel!

Google
Food is AMAZING - GREAT STAFF ALL AROUND & GREAT ATMOSPHERE - Prices are good for the location and other Restaurants in the area.

Josh G

Google
Some of the best bar food around especially their chicken fingers. Can’t go wrong with Buffalo fingers or honey garlic fingers

Emily Brooks

Google
Waitress Athena was amazing but Diet Coke is so so bad it tastes like plastic

Ashley Twardosky

Google
We had a good experience here. The chicken tenders and brussel sprouts were definitely house made and tasty. The Mac and cheese fritters, most likely frozen, kind of bland. The jalapeño ranch was a surprising highlight of our visit.

Mike

Google
Phenomenal place to host charity events! They are absolutely amazing!

Yelp
Our group of 4 has a great time watching football on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy, but our server was on top of her game! Go Cassidy! The food was good! The Brussels sprouts were amazing with just the right amount of heat! My fav part was the music! They played great songs the whole time we were there! I would love access to that playlist. I would defiantly go back! Cheers!

Yelp
A must try for sport games! Great beer, fantastic food, and the vibes at this place are through the roof. Specifically for college football on Saturdays I had one of the best days here. Our server was super friendly as well. Definitely stop by!

Gerardo M.

Yelp
Cozy place, super friendly staff! We walked in without a reservation for a large group and they still sat us. On Tuesdays they have a trivia night, was pretty fun and - importantly - calm. Hot wings and burgers were good, definitely give them a try. On that note check out the garlic bbq wings (i think that was the name).

Yelp
Great food. The only place where I could find good turkey burgers, and sweet potato fries. The California burger is great, The Pistachio crusted salmon is really good too! I haven't tried everything but I will.. Nice sports bar in the heart of South Boston!

Yelp
Stats is the type of place that unless you're hammered drunk, a dude, like sports, or some combination of the latter, you probably will not enjoy your time here. If I am drunk enough I can tolerate it, but otherwise it's a place where a woman's spirit goes to die. The table servers do a decent job given how crowded and chaotic it can get, but trying to order a drink at the bar has taken me 20-30 min on average. It's painful. I have considered stilts. The loophole for having an optimal experience as a non-sports fan is to order the food for pickup or delivery. I would have guessed the food would be similar to chain restaurants like Applebee's, but I have tried almost the entire menu and it SLAPS. My favorite is the quesadilla, any burger, wings, and of course Mac and cheese.
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
Best nachos I've ever had. There was cheese and toppings in the middle so you don't have to worry about running out if toppings. I ate it for 3 meals. We sat outside when it was still a bit cold and the staff were great about turning the heaters on and wiping the tables.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a blast here! We came on a Sunday and it was PACKED. There was a DJ and it was super busy. Like everyone under 35 came out for Sunday Funday. The drinks were great but the food was mediocre. I would have rated this place 5 stars, but we had drinks added to our tab that we didn't order. Overall this was an awesome awesome bar and made for a drunken, fun Sunday.

Yelp
The New Smash Burger was great I give it a 10/10. Good customer one of the best burger spots in Southie for sure.

Catie H.

Yelp
Rudest bartenders I've ever seen in my life. Such an uncomfortable experience from start to finish.
google avatar

Zachary N.

Yelp
Where do I begin! Is this the best sports bar in Boston? In Massachusetts? In the world? Mike and team do an exceptional job. There are more TVs than you can count! Cheesesteak spring rolls are phenomenal, although I've only had them once because I always order salads. If you need a place to watch the game, this is the place to go. I love Stats! Also the bouncers are handsome (especially D)

Alan H.

Yelp
I had an overnight layover in Boston and found this gem of a bar/pub. Katie was efficient, friendly and helpful in choosing a great an entree and sides, plenty of TVs to watch all kinds of sports. the fries were delicious and the Chicken Caesar wrap was really good. Great place- wish I had it in my neighborhood.

Taylor G.

Yelp
awful service. letting people cut in line for no reason, while others have been waiting 2 hours.
google avatar

Ravuth O.

Yelp
I ordered a House salad (No onions and crotons) and the Turkey tips entree: Turkey tips (Sweet potato marinade, sweet potato mash and grilled squash) Booth were big size plates. The salad come out first. I got it with the Balsamic glaze, however, it was salty. I'm thinking it was drenched in salad dressing that over salted it. Not a heavy handed salt type of man. The waitress was gracious enough to get another salad going with the dressing in the side. Next the Turkey tips. Damn that s**** smacks!! The sweet potatoes was just right. The squash was cooked perfectly. The tips were cooked to perfection. Beautiful dish. Food: Awesome Service: Also Awesome. Waitress attentive and wonderful rib checking on tables. Marissa was great! Next trip might have to make it 5 stars if this continues!!!!!!

Yelp
We were looking for a bar in Boston that played SEC games because we wanted to watch the Arkansas game (go hogs!!). We were told Stats had most channels and we could ask the waitress to put the game on at any tv near us. The bar was lively and full of people watching all sorts of games. The waitress quickly got the Razorback game on for us once it started. We had beer throughout the game and got the buffalo chicken dip as an app, which was very yummy and cheesy. One thing I though was weird, they don't put prices by any of the beers and all of the beers are different prices. I felt weird asking the waitress every time I ordered a new beer, so my bill ended up being a bit of a surprise. Overall we really liked this sports bar and the food, we just thought the absence of beer prices was weird.

Yelp
Trivia Tuesdays are a blast! Make a reservation in advance since the bar will be packed. Bar can be a be a bit loud so probably not an ideal date spot. They have an outside area in the warmer months as well. Food is average but they have an abundant drink menu and the service is very attentive.
google avatar

Ali M.

Yelp
Don't sleep on Stars for takeout or delivery. Their sandwiches and wraps are so good, portions are huge and they always read the comments for modifications. My new favorite.

Jessica V.

Yelp
the buff chicken dip was cold and the chips it came with were criminal it hurt my feelings

Jillian P.

Yelp
Connor and Jennifer were absolutely fantastic!! One of the the most attentive bar tenders I've ever had, was also great with taking my request for wanting a fruity tequila drink and making something magical happen. The steak egg rolls are also a high request, but bogged regards to Jen & Connor!!
google avatar

Leila K.

Yelp
One of the worst, most racist places I've been in Boston. DO NOT GO. I ordered a drink and then the waitress was mad because I had used one of the napkins to blow my nose in to. Then she tried to say something to me from the bar and when I responded that she was being racist she had the "manager" kick me out. I tried to speak to the bouncers who were people of color so they said that they "couldn't do anything" Bottom line: don't go if you're a person of color because you could be kicked out for no reason
google avatar

Adam F.

Yelp
I like the old stats pre covid... when they used to dance on the bar.. they don't make them like they used to

Wyatt C.

Yelp
The bartenders are the rudest, most unprofessional people I've ever ordered a beer from. They reminded me of highschool. Go down the street to Publico instead

Dalia G.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and had a wonderful experience. Lauren is a great server, very attentive. The cocktails are so good, lots of options. Food portions are generous but not too big- just right. Everything tastes great and comes quickly! Trivia is a fun time with questions from lots of different categories, so something for everyone. There are multiple opportunities to win a prize, so it feels super accessible to all. The vibe is so nice too- music playing but not so loud that you can't hear yourself talk. Although it's a sports bar, even with a few games on, it's not too loud/boisterous at all. Overall a great place to go with a really welcoming feel to it and friendly staff.

Samantha M.

Yelp
I would leave zero if i could. I came to get a few drinks. Got 2 drinks and left $3 .. would've gotten more drinks but we ordered a water and she refused to give it to us and said "we only pour drinks for tips"

Yelp
Of better known local landmarks, there are innumerable. But in my experience, nothing so aptly sums up the modern Boston experience than Stats Bar and Grille. Each time I arrive at Logan airport, I faithfully check in on my college compadres and confirm I should set my Lyft/Uber coordinates due southwest to meet them at Stats. There, I never cease to find exactly what the name suggests: tall, intoxicated bros, bud light slick floors, Tom Brady worshippers and Good Will Hunting accents complete with how-do-you-like-them-apples-esque exchanges. The circular bar keeps things interesting, the staff are friendly, and it only takes 7 minutes of shoulder edging and uncompromised attempted bartender eye contact to order from their decent draft list. Though I've never experienced it, they also maintain a bar food menu and a brunch option. So check out Stats, where you can grab a bud with your buds and debate the greater questions in life: why does the word grill sometimes have an extra "e" and is that chick at the bar checking you guys out?

Yelp
Came here for dinner with friends and was again very pleased with the service and food that we received! My only complaint is regarding the spinach artichoke dip. It comes with "pita chips" that are not very typical when you think pita chips. I'm not even sure how to describe them but I was not a fan of them. Still giving them a 5/5 because the service is fantastic and the portions are huge. Easily shareable with a few friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little Southie bar for watching the game. High energy young crowd. Order the Cajun Chicken Tenders. large plate of food that will feed two easy.
google avatar

Abby M.

Yelp
I will say for a sports bar this place is a common go-to spot in southie. Although it is always overcrowded and service can often take a long time. The wait staff are very sweet and the drinks are strong which for the price you pay is worth it. Overall, just long wait times.
google avatar

Cori F.

Yelp
When we showed up there was no one at the hostess stand that was kind of out of the way. There was a sign stating to wait to be seated so we waited there. Several minutes later another party came in and they seated them. We told the hostess that we were waiting to be seated and they just said "well you're in the wrong spot" instead of helping us when they had clearly seen us. When we were finally seated the waitress was great and the food came very quickly. The burgers were great and the fries were decent. The pickles were fabulous. As expected with this spot it was extraordinarily loud, but it was a good playlist. We went there in an act of desperation as there was a long wait everywhere else. I would go again in this situation but wouldn't go out of my way to go there again.
google avatar

Eliza P.

Yelp
Went there this past weekend (Covid times, mask are still mandatory) and the servers had them on their chins talking over the drinks that were waiting to go out at the bar. Blatant disregard for state mandates and risky behavior. Walked by the kitchen to go to the bathroom and no one had their mask on in the kitchen. Don't open if you can't follow rules right now.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great time when I'm in Boston. Food is good drinks are good. Definitely a fun time to bring friends or just watch a game. Staff is friendly and good looking for the fellas! Highly recommend

Yelp
I have the pleasure of coming here weekly post sports league, and it's a great place to hangout. I can only speak on the appetizers and drinks, but that should be fine because MAN the appetizers are great. The chicken tenders here are wild. Wild. Like, it seems that they take practically entire chicken breasts and bread and deep fry them right there. The normal chicken tenders are good, but there are also cajun tenders and buffalo tenders which keep getting better as you progress. The plate is so huge that you could definitely get that as your entire meal, and likely not finish it all depending on how hungry you are. Another noteworthy app to try is the steak and cheese egg rolls, which are exactly what they sound like. Also give the honey garlic wings a try. The nachos had mixed reviews, some people loved them and some people (me) thought they could have been better, but I'm from California so what can I say? Overall there haven't been many complaints from anyone and I come here with a large group every time. Service could be better, but if you come with friends and have a few drinks and some chicken tenders you probably won't care. Good vibes, good food.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
The waitstaff is great, but the bouncers really make this bar. DJ is the sweetest and friendliest bouncer in Southie. Always a smile on his face, and a hello for patrons. Definitely visit this bar if you are in Boston for a trip or to stay!! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Lauren J.

Yelp
We order from here a good amount since the food is easy and good usually. The greek salad with chicken I ordered tonight was not what I thought I was getting at all. There was only like 2 handfuls of lettuce - more olives and pepperchinis than lettuce. Definitely not worth the huge price tag of 19$. I can get a better salad down the road for half that price and it includes chicken and pita bread. Very disappointing order.
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
Went here for dinner and drinks on Friday night. I was underwhelmed. I had the BBQ Bacon Burger with sweet potato fries and a banana bread beer that I had never had before. Side-note pro-tip: the draught beers are *much* cheaper than the bottled beers. My 12 oz. drink was twice as expensive as my friend's pint of Goose Island IPA. The beer selection is not very exhaustive, so I think the draw of this place is the "sportsiness" of it. It certainly wasn't the food: my burger was mushy and falling apart and the sweet potato fries were so salty I thought I might not finish my meal (I finished my meal, you Curious Georges!). Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere. I will pass on the food next time, opting instead to enjoy a basketball game, sporting a backwards baseball cap and boisterously yelling at the myriad TV screens.
google avatar

Jackie P.

Yelp
All of the girls ive seen working here minus Cassie are very rude. Every time I come in I'm given dirty looks and disregarded overall when it comes to getting serviced compared to how guys are. Yes it's a sports bar so inevitably its male dominated but they shouldn't be the only ones getting taken care of well. Someone had to say it. I love stats though and everything else is awesome and will definitely continue on going there but just wish some of the female bartenders weren't so unwelcoming

Sydney W.

Yelp
Not only is their food amazing (some of the best french fries I've had in my life) but their staff are incredibly friendly and left the kindest note in my takeout container. I can't wait until I can go back in person (see more reviews of chicken tender restaurants at @one_to_tenders on Instagram)
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
One of South Bostons finest establishments. Very underrated spot to grab lunch, a casual dinner, or watch a sports game. Highly recommend putting in your meal at the same time as you appetizer if you chose to get one as the slow service is the only negative part about eating here. I've gotten many of the appetizers and they all have been pretty good. I'm a big fan of the Reuben. Have to get the sweet potato fries as a side or you are doing it wrong.
google avatar

Edward H.

Yelp
I started working in the Southie area, noticed this place thought I'd try it out. 1 and done, Country Music playing, sorry I just don't like it (anything past 1977) show stopper for me. It's the CITY, know your audience.
google avatar

Terri M.

Yelp
Found Stats by accident and just wow!! Veg burger was very unique and delicious. Sweet potato fries are magical--fluffy and crisp at the same time and no greasiness. Server was amazingly efficient and very nice. Oh and the Down East cider on tap is fantastic. Clean and nice atmosphere too. Music at a reasonable level and TVs not overwhelming. You can have a nice conversation here and totally enjoy yourself!
google avatar

Connor P.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, I don't do the Sunday Funday lines that last for 2-3 hours and are 50 people deep. But this bar can be a great spot if you catch it on a night where the crowd isn't too big. They have good beer deals for the area, miller lites and bud bottles are $5. It doesn't usually take too long to get a drink at the bar, and the overall bar is a U shaped bar and has quite a few seats. I've had the chicken caesar salad wrap and it was good. They also have a turkey burger with a sun-dried tomato pesto which is delicious. The bar is bi-level and can hold quite a few people. There's also plenty of TV's to come in and watch a game. It's hit or miss if you're going to catch a big crowd, but it's a good bar.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Stats is one of my favorite bars in Southie. I tend to avoid it on the weekends but love trivia Tuesdays! Their salads are surprisingly good and creative -- weirdly enough Stats is my favorite place in all of Boston to get a salad. The other food on the menu consists of your standard pub fare and is pretty decent. They don't have too much going on in terms of unique beer, but do have a $3 monthly special which usually features something decent (Sam Alpine Spring, Brooklyn Summer, etc). Definitely a good place to grab dinner or watch a game in Southie!

Paige B.

Yelp
We ordered here (9 girls). Food was decent for the most part. However the Brussel sprout salad came with MOLDY cheese (please see picture attached). Would recommend examining your food first before eating
google avatar

Phil O.

Yelp
I've known Jim Statiros from his previous location on Broad Street, and what I've come to realize is that these Greeks really know how to prepare food. Everything I've ordered here has been phenomenal. Among some of the dishes I've enjoyed are burgers, the goat cheese salad, the buffalo calamari, and the Cuban. Don't be fooled into thinking that since this place is a sports bar it offers the same "so so" food as Playwright and BBG. And unlike its rivals, it has $3 beer specials! Stats is 5 stars in my book, which can be broken down as follows: -great for viewing sports games -newer, nicer, and cleaner inside than Southie sports bar competitors -affordable "underrated" food menu -superior crowd to competitors' (tolerable mix of Southie originals and yuppies) -happening night life -attractive staff and amicable owners
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Spot was Bangin on a rainy Sunday afternoon, food was fantastic and service was in point, what more can I say, burgers are amazing.
google avatar

Emily Z.

Yelp
Stats is your typical sports bar. Food is ok, beer list is fantastic and it's ALWAYS BUSY. Not that is typically a bad thing but it does make it difficult to talk about your trivia answer or catch up with a friend. I think they do bank of being a hub of activity because the decor is non exist for the most part. Very typical pine tables and chairs, large bar but really nothing at the walls. You come to watch the game and drink the $5 monthly beer special. What brings me back is Trivia. I do appreciate that it's not a trivia persuit or geeks who drink that is so challenging you have to pay 100% to play the game versus the people who you are with. Since it's more current events based, people tend to better and that feels nice. Plus the prizes, who doesn't love cash?

Tommy M.

Yelp
Poor service and limited space. Also do not know how to properly poor a Guinness, but trivia Tuesdays are fun.
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Best food and staff in southie. Tendies 10/10, nachos to die for. Beer or the month unparalleled

Olivia L.

Yelp
I called stats at 5pm asking them what time it starts filling up for trivia, and they recommended I get there around 7:15-7:30. Called again at 6:45 to see if there was a wait. They said no. Showed up at 7:00 only to be told that every table was reserved for trivia and there was no way we would be seated. It was literally empty. They wouldn't put us on a waitlist. Stats does not even allow reservations so I'm really not sure how we are supposed to get a table for trivia and why every person I spoke to on the phone said we would be able to walk in for a table. It was very frustrating to see empty tables and be turned away somewhere that never allows reservations
google avatar

Angie G.

Yelp
Came across Stats Bar after spending the evening at Castle Island. The place looked really packed for just a Wednesday night so I called and was told there was availability inside & outside. When I got there, the host told me it would be at least 30 minutes (it wasn't her who picked up the phone) but she was very sweet & kind, she told me she'd get me in as fast as she could. Waited about half of that and got a cool table in the bar area. My server was very chill and knowledgeable on the menu. BBQ bacon burger tasted so good and the fries at this place are EVERYTHING! My friend had the grilled cheese with tomato soup/caesar salad and it was delicious as well. I hear this place is good for game days, as they have a lot of TVs! Contrary to the last reviews you might read, everyone was wearing masks and following safety protocols so fear not! (Maybe you shouldn't go out if you're going to complain)
