This is a 3-star hotel disguised as a 4-star. I thought it would be one of the those minimalistic, efficient hotels. Not quite. The best thing about it is the creative pineapple theme. Well, it did lure me into booking a room here, especially since I remember seeing its high ratings from New York.
Let me tell you why I think this is not a good hotel:
- No sound proof in the room. I was staying near the elevator and I could hear everything. I could also hear the low frequencies of the quiet conversation happening in the room next to me. If you’re a light sleeper, run away.
- Bad bathroom. The shower head is cheap and not fun to shower with. The toilet seat is very close to the shower screen/glass, so your right side–especially your right arm–will be slightly locked with little flexibility. The toilet paper is hanged on a wobbly stand. One towel had some color stains on them. All toiletries have a single, monotone smell.
- The bed is not that comfy, despite looking very comfy. I’m comparing it to other hotels I stayed at around here. I like the “European style double duvet” marketing thing. I have a feeling they did it because it’s cheaper to maintain and clean. I usually like getting trapped inside the bed’s comforter as it’s usually done in other hotels, and this doesn’t have that hugging feeling.
- The location is ok, but not better than many other hotels around here. The more blocks west to Union Square you go, the uglier the streets get (maybe until Polk St).
- This is the only hotel I’ve seen so far that explicitly asks for tips in the hotel room, including the option for electronic tipping. I’d be happy to pay whatever that amount is if you included it in the hotel rate, but asking for tips like that defeats the purpose of tipping.
- The furniture didn’t look nor feel particularly modern, efficient, or beautiful. It’s just your average hotel room with a pineapple theme.
I don’t want to go on because that would seem like I’m trying to find things to complain about. Overall, the value for price was not good, so, unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel. For roughly the same price or less, you can stay at better hotels in San Francisco.
