On the Grid : Steadfast

"Seriously incredible coffee. They find it. Roast it. Bag it. Brew it. And divine new, better concoctions that take the stuff we already love to a whole new level. Their addictive coffee soda was born of such tinkering as were their rested and flash-chilled beverages. A coffee bean is a very complex source of energy and flavor, and simply put, they know how to respect and get the best out of those little guys. Best of all, they’re nice to humans, too. (So nice, in fact, they thought to add breakfast, snacks and beer to the menu. Boom.)" - redpepper

Went to this coffee shop to get some work done and really liked it. The vibe was calm and cozy, just the kind of space you want when you need to focus. I got a matcha and avocado toast, and both were actually really good. The matcha wasn’t too sweet, and the toast was fresh and hit the spot. No complaints at all. The staff were nice, and everything felt easy and chill. Definitely a spot I’d come back to when I need a change of scene to work or just grab something light.

Steadfast is one of my favorite spots in Nashville. The breakfast burrito hits every time and the coffee is next-level. They’ve created a chill, unique atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. You can tell they care about the details, from the food to the vibe to the way they treat people. If you're looking for great coffee, solid food, and a space that feels different from the usual, this is it.

What a wonderful gem in the Germantown area. We came to this coffee shop because it was conveniently located near our hotel, and it was a highlight of our trip. As coffee lovers, we loved the selection, and the espresso was a bold and creamy blend that was dialed in to perfection. We also tried the iced brown sugar latte and the butterscotch latte, both delicious and flavorful on a hot day. Had an absolutely JOY talking to Erin, who clearly made our time there special and warm. She was so helpful and knowledgeable about the area, Nashville, and of course, the coffee. If I could rate it 5+ stars, it would be because of her. Please go if you’re in the area, you won’t regret the coffee, the vibe, and the service.

The potato side prepared by Priscilla were fantastic! Newer on the menu since I last came about a year ago. Aside from that, in general the shop is very good. Lots of seating with outlets and a good place to study, do remote work, and even hang out with friends. Seating inside and outside. WiFi is free. Street parking is free. Coffee menu and what seems to be maybe a change in ownership makes the shop different than previous, however still enjoyable. The drip coffee is decently good. They use 8th and Roast coffee which is okay. I do wish the for here espresso came in a ceramic and not plastic cup, but that’s me just being picky. The coffee menu is not as good as it used to be which focused on the specialty and craft of the coffee experience and quality. I do miss the former coffee flight that highlighted the various ways of tasting coffee. I do wish the staff I interacted with knew a little mote about the coffee sids of things, but maybe that's not the focus anymore which is fine. Overall satisfied with the experience. Food is amazing!

Google
What a beautiful find in German Town in Nashville. Wonderful bites and super java in a gorgeous facility. Everhtime I came it was packed. They also have a beautiful outdoor area. The only complaint is that the service is bordering on rude. Not helpful. It seems everyone is either grumpy or disinterested which is too bad because they have a good thing going here. This service was apparent the four times I returned here. I just overlooked it because where I was staying this was my breakfast spot before I had to work online. 4

Google
Steadfast is the best coffee shop in Nashville. Tucked away in Germantown you have the option of sitting inside the inviting cafe or sitting outside in their expansive outdoor patio. I love suggesting this location for business meetings because the location is convenient to all areas of Nashville and the service is always top notch. The staff remembers me, makes wonderful drinks and food. Get over here!!!

Google
Solid breakfast and barista. The avocado toast was very good, and the coffee was hot. It was a bit overpriced but food was good. It was nice to be able to sit outside, eat, and enjoy the fall foliage. I would probably go back. The people that work there were really kind and seemed to enjoy working there.

Google
Truly good quality coffee. You have to try the bee sting latte! Thank you from your friends at ETSC!

Yelp
We've heard good things about this place and we decided to drop in so T could get a vanilla iced latte. They make their own syrups, we were told, and while I don't drink coffee/latte drinks, apparently this beverage is better than anything you can get at Starbucks. The service was great, with a very friendly staff. Drop in if you're in the area.

Yelp
I do not frequent this side of Nashville often but when I do I intentionally make a spot at Steadfast for a latte! I love the vibes, quality espresso pulls, consistency of syrups that are not too overwhelming but just right. I recently got the sea salt brown sugar latte with oat and was very pleased. The service was attentive, kind, and quick on a relatively steady Saturday morning.

Yelp
3.5 Soviet milk bar vibe uses sparse brutalist decor to deliver highly seasoned and perfectly adequate breakfast foods and unique, popcorn accented coffee. Unenthusiastic but efficient service. Located off of the main drag.

Ally C.

Yelp
We ordered the brown sugar sea salt latte and the Lorelei. Just as expected, fantastic! The brown sugar latte is by far the best. Cute outside patio, with ample seating. Only downside to outside is view of power tower. Inside is very basic and not super cozy. Service is good, nice people.

Yelp
Doing my usually of trying the basics in the coffee places and seeing how they measure up. This place was super cute with a beautiful patio and fall leaves floating down. Latte was smooth but rich and delicious. The drip was also excellent- it had a full flavor that felt like a pour over. Definitely a must stop for this neighborhood.

Yelp
Great outdoor seating. Drip coffee and seasonal latte. Avocado toast. Hidden away in Germantown.

Yelp
Germantown, maybe just nashville in general has the best coffee spots. I love steadfast! Their cortado is amazing. They have good indoor seating options, and even more outdoor seating. Employees are always super nice. They can get pretty creative with their specialty drinks so keep an eye out for those!

Kiana P.

Yelp
Honestly this place was so overpriced. The coffee was mid and cost me $10... it's not even that expensive in Southern California and I thought $8 was overpriced. Feeling blessed that my $8 coffee taste actually tastes delicious af!
google avatar

Sheila L.

Yelp
This place is just ok. It's really hard to find from the street bc the sign is very small. At least they have free parking! The coffee is ok, the flavored latte doesn't have much flavor or sweetness to it. I was looking forward to the butterscotch latte since they make their own syrups, but maybe the barista forgot to add syrup to my latte? The breakfast tacos I got look nothing like the other pictures of breakfast tacos on Yelp. The two tacos I got were filled with half a piece of egg, half a slice of bacon & a whole bunch of arugula and green peppers in each taco. The tacos didn't feel like they were worth the price.

Yelp
The cold and I have never gotten along. The same may be said for the rest of our species. For thousands of years, generations across generations, our people have battled against the harshest of natures elements and have braved freezing conditions by struggling to find ways to create the life preserving and loving warmth that feeds and nourishes and supports that which is ever eternal glowing radiating warmth that is within us all. I reflect on this as I enter steadfast. Finding a reprieve in the hellishly cold landscape of midwestern america (46°F). I order the atlas, a drip coffee with sugar and an orange peel. The warmth of the coffee rekindles the inner light within me like life being brought back to an old forge by adding blisteringly hot coals. The citrus from the orange cuts through the bitterness of the coffee and they work together to create something more than the sum of their parts. This contrast of flavor is analogous to the way life and death flow through nature; in an exchange like a graceful dance or a game they play with us as the pawns. Sweet and bitter, both are not as different from the other as they might seem for one is not itself without the other. And life without both would be hell either way Although, atlas carried the weight of the entire globe on his back, I doubt he would have been able to carry the the weight of what that coffee did to my stomach and the guilt of what I did to my toilet after. As a final analysis, the coffee was actually amazing and the food was pretty decent for a coffee shop. 27/30

Yelp
May look like your average (slightly milky) iced coffee, but indeed this is possibly the best iced coffee beverage I've ever had - surprisingly strong espresso balanced perfectly w the level of milk, the most amazing housemade syrups perfectly not too sweet but very flavorful a must get if you at all like peppermint mocha flavors is deans peppermint bark iced.

Yelp
4 stars for a delicious almond milk cappuccino & vibey outdoor seating Minus a star because this will be some of the most expensive coffee you will ever buy. They charge $1.50 for "12oz/16oz" almond milk, yet the cappuccino is only 6oz. I watched the barista use half of the milk they steamed & then pour the rest out. It was a tasty cappuccino, but you can walk down the street to other coffee shops that are equally as delicious & more affordable.

Yelp
Loved the music, service and food. Super vibe!! Great place to hang, work, and grab a byte.

Yelp
I loved this coffee spot. It was a good experience the first time. It's in German town, small quiet less busy neighborhood. Street parking is where it's at. Happy searching for parking. . I went there because of the vibe and the drinks they serve. They have a bar in the middle with lots of room and counter space for customer to sit and barista to make coffee. As they are making drinks they are chatting with you if you stand near it. . Orange kringle, sparkling house made, watching them make the sparkling water was entertaining and labor. They infused some orange cranberry syrup in it. Then topped with a rosemary. It was refreshing and not too sweet but gives me a little holiday coziness on the first few sips. I enjoyed the drink at the outside seating, wrapped in my big black fur coat looking ridiculous as wifey always says and giggles. I can hear that in my head lol.... . Second experience I had the ice espresso tonic. The orange kringle was better in my opinion. But it was still good not the best I have had. I appreciate the time making it and quality in crafting. . Overall I am glad I came to experience this spot. It was nice and peaceful to get some alone time and sit outside, day dream and slowly waking up back to reality. Thanks for reading and have a blessed yelptastic day!

Yelp
Hip Coffee Shop in Germantown! Steadfast not only serves good food and coffee but has a small-scale yet comparable vibe to a Stumptown, La Colombe, and Intelligentsia. The service was good, too. Expect tattooed baristas. My favorite is the overall design of the space. The entrance has a row of gorgeous ginkgo trees and a tall gabion wall. Ginkgoes in the winter are golden showstoppers! I loved the counter and booth layout in the modern finishes, too. The outdoor courtyard was nice, although it could've done with some heat lamps. This is a good spot for students and young adults.

Yelp
This is not for the starbucks crowd. This is GREAT coffee. The staff has always been so sweet & welcoming. Coffee shop staff in Nashville are often awkward for POC but the staff here always makes me feel welcome. Their breakfast option with the eggs, bacon, toast and coffee is a MUST!
google avatar

Yelp
I love the vibe here and have been coming for many years. Their egg sandwich was one of the best I've had, that bread was amazing and it felt like a European dish. I hadn't been to Steadfast throughout Covid and was excited to return. They did not have that sandwich on the menu so I went for the avocado Tartine. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing, I've attached a picture. It was like plain white sandwich, bread, with some white spead, maybe, mayo?, And then an unappetizing avocado mash on top. Usually with a tartine I expect a thicker cut bread, this was soft and weird and felt like something you'd make for a midnight snack after partying all night. Such a bummer! That said, the vibe is still great, it's a wonderful place to come and work, I just might not go for the food next time.
google avatar

Yelp
A little hidden, but once inside, super pretty atmosphere with kind, welcoming baristas. I ordered a mocha and my husband ordered a matcha latte with white chocolate & peppermint. . Not the best coffee I've ever had, but was better than a lot of other places I've been to. The matcha wasn't very good at all. The breakfast tacos were really good and the avocado toast was pretty simple -- nothing super spectacular about it. Overall presentation: 8 Drinks: 6 food: 7

Yelp
A good coffee shop near Germantown. Had a a great breakfast taco and cortado here. Staff was friendly, they have indoor and outdoor seating as well!

Yelp
This was a cool coffee shop to stop in for a quick work session on my trip to Nashville. My sister and I came around 10:30am and almost all of the seating was full inside. There were a good amount of tables available outside, but it was a little chilly and I needed an outlet for my MacBook. We managed to get a seat within a few minutes but just take note of the time you choose to come. We wanted a late breakfast so my sister ordered the breakfast tacos (yum) and I ordered the breakfast plate. I really wanted the avocado tarting but their shipment hadn't arrived so they were out of avocados However, it worked out because I truly enjoyed my breakfast plate. Typically it comes with eggs, toast, bacon, and a coffee but I wanted a latte so I traded in the coffee for a side of potatoes. Y'all, those potatoes stole the show! They were some of the most seasoned potatoes I've ever had and turned out to be the highlight of my coffee visit. The vanilla latte that I ordered was pretty good as well. I would have loved for it to have been hotter but that's on par with most coffee shops ‍ The environment of the shop was top notch. There's so much natural light from the garage doors and the minimalist aesthetic makes it perfect for getting some distraction-free work done. Steadfast will see me again soon!

Yelp
Steadfast is a great study environment. I sat here for several hours and felt like the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The staff was amazing. They were incredibly nice and helpful when choosing drinks. I would skip on the pastries here: overpriced and not that good. The drinks are definitely on the sweeter side but overall tastes yummy!

Yelp
#fatjared say...it's a great spot, but compared to other coffee shops, it's just not above average for me. I am very consistent, and have strict grading criteria. I don't just give out 5's all day. If I have 1 complaint, even something small, I will not give 5 stars. 5 is perfect, and if I complain it's not perfect. The reason I picked Steadfast for me wife and I's weekly coffee date was because I saw online they had a cold brew tap, and offered all kinds of variations. WRONG. They do not do that anymore, and did not even have cold brew. Only flash chilled. HUGE disappointment. Then someone at the front actually referred me to ANOTHER coffee shop because he said they are known for their cold brew. Not a good look for me. Anyway, the layout is very cool, a bit confusing on where to go and where to order, but I liked the look. Outside seating has a nice zen feeling to it. I ordered a shot of espresso, with a latte and breakfast plate (huge bonus this plate comes with a coffee included!) The espresso was extremely smooth. Not overpowering, and 3 distinct flavor profiles that hit at different times. I was impressed The latte, while it came out in a strange glass IMO, was the best I have tasted in Nashville so far. The food was cooked well, but it took a long time to get something simple out. Overall, there were more good than bad things, but nothing over the top except the latte. I like this place, but was bummed from the start and it never recovered. I would come again, but only if someone else suggested it and I didn't want to be rude.
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee, but might be the slowest service of any coffee shop I've ever been to. Doesn't matter when or how often I come, it's just so slow.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Great little local coffee shop! The breakfast taco's are a must if stopping in for food. Coffee is great and they also sell coffee bags to go for at home usage. They also have some outdoor seating with covered tables and some uncovered picnic tables for when it's nice out. Note they do have WiFi if needed to stop in and get some work done.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in Nashville. I highly recommend the Atlas, no other coffee shop that I've seen offers a drink like this. It's a hot drink with drip coffee and a Demerara foam float with hints of orange, it's my usual order when I visit.
google avatar

Mylon P.

Yelp
Summary: Yet another amazing coffee shop with some of my favorite outdoor seating and incredibly espresso drinks. Nashville, y'all are spoiled! You have so many really good coffee shops that I don't even know how I would decide what my favorite would be, maybe I would just rotate every month or so. They all seem incredible for very different reasons and in my opinion Steadfast stands out for its unique drinks, and outdoor seating space. I don't know if they do pour-overs but traditionally when we go to Steadfast we get an espresso-based drink. Often that means a cappuccino and one of their seasonal drinks. Occasionally we do get food here but every time we've done that I feel like it's a little over priced for how much I'm getting. I imagine that makes sense because you don't want your coffee shop to turn into a restaurant but I really only order food here if I'm super hungry I need something to tide me over for a little bit. I think one of the key components of the magic of steadfast is their outdoor seating. There's just something about sitting under the trees on the picnic benches sipping your coffee and enjoying a good view. The barista's are also always friendly super helpful and every time my wife and I go to steadfast we love the experience and the coffee. So I really don't think you could ask for more.
google avatar

Tess S.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed Steadfast - it's a nice environment and the coffee is decent. Overpriced ($8 for a non-dairy vanilla latte), but know what you're going into and it's a nice treat. Enjoyed working (rough wifi connection, but quiet and nice atmosphere) on the patio many days. I'd suggested friends try when they visited, and they gifted me a $50 gift card for hosting them for the weekend. The Steadfast system went down a month later (at their acknowledgment they lost all gift card access) and there has been no resolution in 2 years. I've never been able to redeem the gift card, nor has any management reached out despite leaving my contact. Very disappointed, as you can not sell a gift and then not redeem. I'm now moving, but very disappointed a place that was once a staple to me isn't accountable.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
It was a very nice place. Modern and lots of good choices. There is one step as your walking into the front door that could be dangerous to clientele. Two of us tripped over it with in two minutes. May need to get that fixed. Other than that, loved it!
google avatar

Steph H.

Yelp
Really great lattes and coffee here. Baristas usually seem to truly pay attention to details & make the drinks thoughtfully. Employees can be a little flighty sometimes & one girl in particular (usually at the register) is literally always texting on her phone while working- barely looking up. Bizarre they let her do that. Anyways, Cool location in Germantown near other great restaurants within walking distance.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
This place could be featured in a hipster coffee shop styling playbook. Keep it minimal, sleek and devoid of personality. That being said, the coffee and staff are great. I was here killing time between meetings, ordered an iced coffee and sat at the bar. This is definitely the place in the hood to soak up some Wifi and get some work done. It looks like people take over the booths or tables and stay put for awhile, so space inside might be limited. Once the weather warms up, definitely utilize their outdoor patio it's spacious and sun kissed. The iced-coffee was great! Awesome color and no bitter aftertaste. I drank it black, no need for almond milk or other creamers. I will say, I probably wouldn't active seek this place out, but if you're close by and need a pick me up, Steadfast has you covered.

Yelp
This was our last stop of our weekend Nashville trip as we wanted to grab some coffee before driving back to St. Louis. Definitely glad my brother was there as he is a coffee-addict and always picks out cool places to start the morning. This place is hipster central. Loved the simple architecture inside as well as the cool demeanor of the owrkers. It was a nice day so we sat outside and enjoyed weather. There is one and ONLY one drink to try here: the A T L A S. I wrote it like that just to emphasize how fantastic it is. First of all, it looks like a drink from Harry Potter or something. Then, the taste. You get the cold homemade heavy cream at the top and as you continue drinking, you start to get the warm coffee drink at the bottom. Together, it is a party in your mouth. The 1 downside is that it is an expensive drink (~$8) but absolutely worth it. One of us also got the hot chocolate and this too was rich and creamy. Can't wait to be back next time I'm in Honky-Tonk land!!

marissa B.

Yelp
Breakfast tacos were upscale and delicious. The standout is the Painkiller coffee drink. I prefer it hot over cold; you can decipher the flavors of orange and coconut better. I'm not a big coconut fan either. The coconut is a syrup not milk. If you're in the fence, give it a try. Friendly service!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Such a cool place. Delicious freshly roasted and brewed coffee. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
The outdoor patio with tables, chairs and shade is one of the standout assets of this Germantown coffee joint. The indoor space was cute too but the outdoor space certainly makes you want to linger. I was in desperate need for some WiFi during a quick work trip to Nashville and found this spot was nearby. Many of the tables featured outlets, the WiFi was good enough and the space offered a lot of natural light. I asked if they had cold brew and the serve responded that they have coffee on ice and said it in a condescending way as if it were the same thing. Honestly, had he been a little less "too cool for school" and friendly, I would quickly give this place five stars. Have the fun of a good coffee shop is the vibes the staff give off - especially for new customers. Overall, it was a positive experience and great place if you're looking for a fun outdoor working atmosphere with your laptop or for meetings.

No Free Lunches Co ..

Yelp
Third wave coffee shop that thinks outside the box. If I blindfolded you and drove you around America for 5 days and took the blindfold off here, aside from being disoriented and hungry, you would have a hard time not believing yourself to be in a coffee shop in LA or New York. Thanks for the delicious treats, don't blow it, come enjoy some soothing music and hospitality with a side of espresso.

Caroline R.

Yelp
coffee was EXTREMELY watered down. tasted like water with basically no flavor even though i added in an extra flavor. i will say, their mixed berry jam saved them that's why it's a 2 star and not 1
google avatar

Robin M.

Yelp
The coffee and food are great. The three stars is because there's never any parking or anywhere to sit. They allow people to sit there and work for Hours at a time, most often one person is taking up a four person booth. It's virtually impossible to go here.

Kaela E.

Yelp
Absolute worst customer service I've experienced. Employees were beyond miserable and rude. Coffee was delicious, but not worth the misery of the employees. 1/10 recommend.
google avatar

Kelsey E.

Yelp
Small parking lot, but not too busy on a Monday morning. Got the butterscotch latte and vanilla latte. The drinks were a good level of sweetness, but a little too milky and not a lot of distinction between the different flavors. The barista told us which was which, but we accidentally got them mixed up and couldn't figure it out haha. Baristas were nice and we enjoyed the interior. Will have to come back to sit on their patio on a sunny day!

Yelp
I hate writing bad reviews. Typically I won't write a bad review and offer feedback directly to the manager of the restaurant, if we there was something negative and/or positive to share. Unfortunately my husband and I weren't given the opportunity to connect with a manager during our visit. So we hope they see this feedback and can offer better experiences for their customers . My husband and I have been traveling-this was our first time visiting "steadfast coffee." We had been searching everywhere for a coffee place that offers dine-in seating since we are living in COVID times . We ordered a couple of coffee drinks and two breakfast dishes (breakfast tacos and potatoes bowl). My husband's dish (breakfast tacos) had hairs in the tacos (twice). The first time we saw the hair we let the person at the register know. They remade the tacos for us, and the second time we saw another hair within the eggs of tacos. The potato bowl was really salty. Hopefully other clients and first-time customer won't experience the same situation.

Yelp
It's a great little coffee spot! Parking in the parking lot or on the street and go up the stairs. It has its busy moments, so get there early. All the food is cooked fresh and can be a bit of a wait. I recommend the drink the Atlas. It's delicious!! Also the Avocado Tartine is very good! Get it with or without the egg . There's plenty of seating inside and even more outside. Bathrooms are located past the register. The service was great!

Yelp
3.5 really. I stopped here before going to work to grab a quick breakfast. Price is a bit much. $21 for a small coffee and two tacos? The place is not bad, coffee has a different taste (not bad, just different) and size it's small and full of foam so you really get half coffee and half foam. They don't have sugar but they have a honey water you can use to sweeten the coffee if you need to. I had the breakfast tacos, I honestly loved the flavor and the combination of ingredients. They are gourmet tacos but they are 2 decent size tacos. I like the pickled onions and I had to be extra so I added the avocado (+$1). They come in a flour tortilla. I would stop for them again. They have beer on tap and different tea's and signature coffees too. They offer water on the tables, and they have plenty of seating. They have outside seats as well as a nice patio with nice seating on the grass area. Overall feel is that is a nice place but will not be a regular stop on my way to work.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a work remote (but not at home) day. The food is deliciously filling and the coffee hits the spot. All reasonably priced. It was a bit busy and had to wait a while. Seats inside were not available, so settled for outside. Service takes some time, so be ready to sit down and work for a bit!

Yelp
Coffee was mediocre and the wait for breakfast was nearly an hour on a slow morning. Definitely don't recommend.

Yelp
My husband and I were in Nash for a week and ended up grabbing coffee at Steadfast three times. Sure, there's some other coffee spots nearby, but Steadfast has a great outdoor space which made it ideal for us especially since we were traveling with our two pups. Plus, it has its own parking lot. I pretty much only had lattes -- including their new pumpkin one for fall, yum! -- and they were all great. I wish I could remember the exact name of the menu item, but the toast I had for brunch one day was delicious -- sweet potatoes, butternut squash, arugula + goat cheese.

Yelp
This is a comfortable coffee joint in Germantown that has a decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. They have some food options here too but I only sampled the crack... I mean caffeine beverages and for those that care about such things they also make those fancy little latte art decorations in some of the beverages. When the weather is nice the outdoor area is a nice spot to enjoy some caffeine and get some work done or just enjoy the view. There are some other business around here but you still get free parking around the area at the moment but things keep changing and growing so hopefully the free parking stays around.

Yelp
Excellent coffee. Great food. Abysmal service. Service so bad you probably won't get the food or the coffee anyway....so whats the point? 2 days in a row they've been nice enough to send me to work a 14 hour day with no breakfast because they either can't read a ticket....or because "we don't take to go orders because we don't have a good system for it" Pathetic. But at least I got to sit around waiting for 30 minutes taking up a table before they told me they screwed up my order and it would be another 30 minutes. I guess they were overwhelmed by me and the one other customer they had. What a waste of a beautiful spot.

Yelp
I love the food options here! The butternut toast was amazing! A unique and flavorful option to avocado toast. The cider was perfect for a November fall day and so was the butterscotch latte. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of places to sit and with large windows the lighting seems like you could be outside where there is also seating.
