Six New Breweries Are Opening in Southern California: Here’s What to Know - Eater LA

"On July 21, the Steady Brew Beer Co. opens near the airport in East Long Beach. Partners Robert Booth, Aaron Henderson, and Dennis Russo already have a presence in the craft beer market, as local markets, bars and restaurants began selling Steady Brew Beer in January. According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, the trio opted for a 39-person tasting room with six beers on tap to expand their reach. Steady Brew Beer Co. will serve a neighborhood lacking in local beer options." - Mona Holmes

It's been a couple of years since I last visited. Kudos on the much larger space! The staff are very nice, the beers are outstanding. Everything is on point. Comfortable seating, nice long bar, TVs all around. It's family and kid-friendly, too. Looking forward to my next visit - hopefully sooner than this time around.

Google
Steady Brewing Long Beach is a hidden gem for beer lovers looking for locally brewed beers. The brewery has a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours, and the selection of beers is impressive. What I appreciate about Steady Brewing Long Beach is the variety of beers they have on tap. From light and refreshing to dark and rich, there's something for everyone. However, the standout beer for me was the Porter of Long Beach. It had a smooth and velvety texture with a perfect balance of roasted malt and chocolate notes. It's an excellent representation of a classic porter, and I highly recommend giving it a try. The service at Steady Brewing Long Beach is also noteworthy. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about beer, which creates a welcoming and comfortable environment. Whether you're a seasoned beer drinker or new to the craft beer scene, they are always happy to help you navigate the beer menu and find something you'll enjoy.

Google
Nice little small brewery tucked away in a small part of long beach. Parking isnt too bad if you come on a non busy day. I actually came on a Saturday and there was parking out back. Ordered the ddemon and red. Both were really good quality. Definitely a must to stop out.

Google
Excellent but super small brewey!! Proof that "size doesn't matter", no but really a must stop if you're passing thru Lakewood / Long Beach!!! Their Belgian is to die for and the Gin and Juice Hazy IPA is a must!!

Margarita Labik

Google
Laid back atmosphere with friendly staff, delicious beer, and a wide variety of patrons. They have beer on tap (available both as 4-pour flights and pints) and canned. Wide variety of music keeps the atmosphere upbeat yet cozy. Board games and Mrs. Pacman attract attention of kids and adults alike. Dog friendly and have no problem with you bringing food in.

Google
Stopped in for a few drinks, I had the 357 IPA and Grasshopper IPA. Both smooth, tasting beers. This brewery pays homage to LBC cultural icons such as #snoopdogg and the oil pumps all throughout #longbeach. The place is set up with a long angled lounge bench with tabletops and a bar table that angles along the back wall. They have a few TVs with various sports playing. Cool spot for a quick beer however not sure if they offer any appetizers or food options so it may be a short visit for those that may be hungry for food and beer.

Google
I tried the sour and it had a very balanced flavor. Will be back!

Google
Really like the beer! Not a ton on tap, but what they do have is good. Grab food next door and enjoy your time!

Yelp
I love a well-crafted, locally brewed ale. No one comes close to Steady in terms of selection, friendliness, ambience... I like IPA's like everyone else in Socal, but I love variety even more. They make the BEST Golden Ale in town (Vandal), and compliment that with a full slate of IPAs, haze's, Pilsners, Stouts. Whatever you're hankering for - they brew it, and they do a damn good job of it. If you haven't checked out Steady, I don't know what you're waiting for.

Yelp
Pool side is a great beer - You can bring in food from the Mexican restaurant or the great pizza spot next door . The it's a fun spot feels like you are hanging out in someone lounge area. In general the people are pretty friendly that work there. There's parking in the lot or in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Great location Food options nearby Pet friendly Good options for drinks Service is fine. Not spectacular but it works. Only issue for our visits is sometimes the temperature of the drinks. Not the coldest. Tolerable but not something I want to revisit when there are options around.

Yelp
Loved the ambience and the beers were great, they even have options for non beer drinkers. The music was great too, loved hearing the modern rock music too, perfect vibe for me and the large group I was with we loved it, will definitely be back soon. Thank you Steady Brewing! Oh, and you can bring food in from anywhere

Yelp
Would have stayed for another, but my ears were bleeding. Death metal isn't my jam to unwind.

Yelp
I'm coming back here! I walked in and there were friendly dogos with their owners ordering drinks but what got me is the nice seating and lounge area! I wanna just come get on my laptop and maybe film some content here! I noticed a lot of brew places are good places to chill and film!

Yelp
My true review would land somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. We came in on a Friday around 4pm and tried the Jin 'n Guice hazy before full sending on two pints: Orna Rauna (7% Belgian) and the Vandal (6% Golden Ale). We ended up purchasing a six pack of the Jin 'n Guice to try more of after we left. I thought all three of the beers were very crisp and light - not big personality beers. It was interesting that the hazy didn't have the body or complexity that a lot of hazies tend to have. The golden was enjoyable, however I wish it had more depth, a little more character. I saw quite a few groups that look like this is their home base brewery. The vibe inside is nice and clean, lots of TVs showing the live games. The employees were kind people. It seems like this would be the perfect brewery for a casual white wine drinker who's curious about craft beer- someone who loves a clean, crisp flavor and no big frills (i.e., high IBUs or hoppier flavor profiles). I'd love to come again after another rotation to check out some of the new stuff.

Yelp
Nice local neighborhood brewery. The bartender was very patient with us, we had a pretty large group! She was helpful and suggested different beers depending on what we liked. We came when it opened and right after we ordered, many people came by! You can tell this place is popular. Great environment and they had on some football games. No food but you can bring in food from the neighboring restaurants!

Dylan B.

Yelp
Beer was ok, the employee was great, comfortable seats, but it had an oddly quiet vibe.

Yelp
Close to work. Had a handful of the pours. Most recent visit - after work, just last night. Not a fan of the parking in this plaza. It's free but parking goes around the building unless you're lucky enough to find a space in front. There's also street parking but it's right on Clark - there's a lot more in the residential area but then it's a walk. It's all free. I'm just lazy. Last night - no outdoor seating. Previous visit, the parking lot was closed off and table for outdoor drinking. Back to the inside - bar seating, a few tables otherwise, a couch type set up. You'll have to go see for yourself to understand. As for the service - order at the register and then take your pour and enjoy. Everyone has different tastes so find what you like and drink up. Pours on tap and also packed and ready for to go. Last night - hair metal rock from the 80's playing. Loved it. Stuff I listened to growing up. And now that I'm grown up, I can enjoy great pours like I did last night.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, my usual date night spot with my hubby. Either good music always playing or sports games which we love. Super friendly staff and drinks. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The food was absolutely AMAZING!! The SHROOM BURGER was the best I've ever had! Pickled eggs "on point"! I can't say enough! Super yummy Our new spot!!

Lisa S.

Yelp
The beer was ok, but could have been a lot colder When you first walk in the first thing you smell is stale beer and it was way too hot in there sit and enjoy yourself. No circulation of air at all and this was in the evening so you thought it wood be cool I saw a ceiling fan but it was not on.
google avatar

Homer B.

Yelp
The craft brews are delicious and outside food is welcome as they only brew & have no food kitchen. Some of the best Mexican food in Long Beach is just a few steps away...
google avatar

Yelp
Love steady brewing! Such a nice little quaint brewery. Their beers are good, and I personally love the fact that they have a good variety of beers that aren't super hoppy. I know that might sound weird, and don't get me wrong - I can appreciate a beer with good hops for what it is - but, I went through my hoppy phase and now I'm very into just good and mellow beers. Trust me - they have plenty of options with hops too! I really like how laid back this place is - the staff is super friendly and they've decorated the place really cool too! There aren't any food options here but you can bring in food no problem and there are 3 good options just steps away too! So glad I'm so close to this place - definitely go check it out sometime!

Yelp
Local, neighborhood craft brewhouse. Nice folks, quick service, and cool Interior! Relatively small place yet has five big screen TVs - awesome
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome! Great beer, great environment! No food offerings, BUT the restaurants next to the brewery are awesome and you can bring food in! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Outdoor seating available, with Mexican, chinese and a bakery within the same lot if you're hungry Beers are served in plastic cups to help the the sanitation Marzen/Oktoberfest - Great refreshing body with sweetness. Notes of caramel right off the bat with toffee in the finish; malt forward as with the style Pineapple Seltzer - for those more health conscious. Very fruity and fragrant of pineapple, without the alcoholic booziness at the end; very freshing

Yelp
They opened three years ago (12/2021). They required masks. It's open and airy. Located down the street from Frank's brother. On a weekday, it's quiet. Selection includes IPAs, lager, sours, etc.

Amy G.

Yelp
It was ok. That's it. It was ok. We came here because it was within walking distance. It was hot and stuffy and dark. I felt like I was in a beer bar not a brewery. My husband liked the music but didn't like the beer. I had the blonde. It was ok. We ended up taking an Uber to another brewery. The bartender was very nice.

Yelp
Great beer Love the grasshopper IPA Always a nice atmosphere and friendly service yay

Carlos F.

Yelp
The beers were OK and what made it worse was that there was no food available only bags of chips

Felix C.

Yelp
Unassuming cozy family friendly neighborhood brewery that we stumbled upon while waiting for SUH nextdoor

Yelp
Updated review if this hidden gem brewery. The beer selection has grown and continues to excel. The clientele are mostly locals and give off the "Cheers" vibe of acceptance. Plenty of eye candy, TV's with not only sports but classic movies. The staff accommodates request to view one's home team or respective sport. If you have a question regarding the plethora of beers and diverse selection, Aaron, Danny or Sarah will assist you in your quest. Huge plus when the staff makes every effort to enlighten you and share their knowledge. Kudos. The establishment is extremely clean with plenty of seating for friends, family or coworkers. Not too loud where one can't hear a conversation over the music or surrounding patrons. To finish this review, I highly recommend this place to share a moment with others or just sit and enjoy the respective sports playing in one of the six huge screens. With the football package now available on Sunday, definitely a go to place to enjoy the season.

Yelp
The Orna Rauna Belgian dark beer is the best I've ever tasted!!! Hands down. Mic drop haha!!!

Melissa K.

Yelp
Local brewery. Service was great. Bartender let me try some beers before I committed to one. Nice ambiance - they've got TVs, tables, couches, and a bar. I wasn't a huge fan of their brews, though.

Yelp
I met some ex-coworkers at this neighborhood brewery in LBC on Clark & Spring. While the Crude/Brown Ale I drank was OK, there were too many downsides to rate this place higher than a three. Pros - Super nice staff and TVs to watch sports Cons - Communal seating and some asshole clients. For example, I arrived early and scouted out some space for 4 of us. Three guys arrive later and could have sat in the empty row behind me, but had to park it right next to the space I scouted out. When my friends arrived, these guys could have moved over. But noooo, they sat right in the middle of the table oblivious that they were being assholes. We ended up moving so we would have more space. Lastly, these assholes got food next door and proceeded to hog up half the table! Nothing like being an asshole, and not know you are an asshole!!!!! Food is available for take out next door at Baja Sonora. However, the food is just so-so and also had some downsides. For example, I went to order some food and the line was long AF. I ended up calling in the order and returning later. Nonetheless, I wasn't given any napkins or forks - WTF?!?!?!?!?! One of my friends had to return to get the foregoing. All in all, decent beer with not much variety in types or higher ABV. I know I will not return to a place with a small parking lot and too many other downsides.

Brook B.

Yelp
Fairly dark interior typical of a brewery, limited lot parking and street parking nearby can be difficult. Service is great, they make a point of chatting with regulars and know how to recommend beer well if you tell them your tastes. Cheaper flights than most breweries and their beer selection has a very wide range of styles/tastes.
google avatar

Yelp
It's always great to see new and micro brews come up the ranks in the sea of already established breweries. Steady Brewing is proving that they have staying power. MICRO-brew is truly how they started out. Now they've expanded next door and soon will be taking over the much larger corner store. They're GROWING and good for us cause they have some pretty darn good beers. Local for me and many others in the area. I love it. Close enough to walk to for me. Currently up 10 beers on tap from just a small handful when they started. I think this is the beginning of a big adventure for this fairly new local micro brew. I'm sure I'll be coming more often now that they're menu has more to choose from. CHEERS!

Yelp
I truly hate to diss a brewery - the guy working the counter was really friendly, and the space was fun and comfortable. but when you're not serving food, I expect the beer to be on point and there was either a big confusion in the beer pour or the beer was seriously lacking. We ordered the hazy IPA and the 9.2% abv double IPA. First, you couldn't tell the difference looking at them, which was the first warning sign. A hazy, by definition, should be cloudy. The lactose gives it a sweeter, unfiltered character. Both beers were identically yellow and clear. By taste, I could not tell the difference - both were okay, but like a basic West Coast IPA. Bitter, with little going for it otherwise. I hope that over time the beer character improves.

Yelp
Went here with my friend to catch up after going to Baja Sonora next door. And WOWIE was I impressed. I don't typically like beer to be honest so it's really hard for me to find an option I like. However they made it really easy for me. They let me sample and I finally found a hard seltzer I actually liked! I don't even like white claws lol I can't remember the name of the hard seltzer off the top of my head but it had orange in the name I believe. Yum! This brewery is located in a really tiny plaza and i didn't notice it at first so it's a little hidden, but it's such a cute place. Prices are incredibly reasonable. They also offer half pours and flights! Their decor is super inviting and fun. They have a mini Pac-Man game, foosball, card games, and board games. Atmosphere wasn't super loud or rowdy either since it is a smaller place. People tend to order food next door and eat it while they drink which I thought was kinda neat. I would definitely come back here again for their yummy hard seltzer or for a really chill and fun hangout with a friend :)

Yelp
Given its location, I can tell this place will be popular. It's in a neighborhood and I saw many people either walking or riding bikes to get here. It's always good to have a local place to hang out. We were in the area and decided to stop in. The staff was pretty chill and the location was cool. It wasn't that typical industrial area setup and...the bathrooms were clean. I know that's probably setting the bar low, but, seriously some of these breweries need to get it together with the bathroom situation. The beers were ok. We got a few tasters and there wasn't anything that jumped out. The Hef was very thin. The clove and banana flavors of a Hef were there, but it was watery. I also tried the IPA, which was ok as well. The DIPA was good and didn't taste at all like a DIPA, which is scary because that means it'll sneak up on you. They don't have food, but there's a restaurant next door that probably does take out. Also, I saw a lot of people complain about parking, but it's in a neighborhood which looks like it has plenty of street parking. You might have to walk a bit, but it's there.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice, comfortable setting and friendly staff. They have several IPAs, which we are not fond of, but we really enjoyed the two beers we had: PILF pilsner (excellent) Snake Oil anise dark lager (excellent)
google avatar

Alvin S.

Yelp
Old school punk spun by the dj...and beer. What more can one want? Well, Chinese food from next door but that'll be on a separate review. So exciting to have this "neighborhood brewery" be a fixture in the area. The atmosphere is convivial and relaxed, perfect after a workweek that seemed to go forever. The decor- modern industrial Palm Springs without being contrived. It's nice. The beer is the beer, which is not a disparaging comment. Excellent price on the beer flight- choice of four. Tonight's choices were the red ale, the Oktoberfest special, the porter, and the stout for the partner. I chose the blonde since it was the best choice for the Chinese food that was delivered from a few doors away. We dine. We imbibe. The Ramones playing in the background. Perfect Friday eve.
google avatar

Gerardo L.

Yelp
A TRUE Long Beach native.. the GIN N JUICE.. makes top of my list when it comes to hazy's...

Emmanuel T.

Yelp
Great place to grab a beer. Great music. No kitchen here but feel free to bring your own food as long as you clean up after yourself! Knowledgeable staff, Aaron was helpful at selecting a delicious beer!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome staff, great beer and rotating seltzer selection. Great location with lots of indoor and outdoor seating with the outdoor picnic tables. We really enjoy the laid back vibe.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood Steady. Nice little tasting room located in an unremarkable recently updated strip mall on the corner of Spring and Clark. The food comes from next door at Baja Sonora, and they will let you bring your own food if you want. Right now they have their Thirsty Bird blonde ale, The grasshopper IPA, well- hopped with Simcoe and Citra hops, probably their claim to fame, and yours truly favorite -also they brew a plump jack pale. The beer is as fresh as can be, and can be taken away in cans. A welcome addition to the west side of a growing LBC craft beer scene.
google avatar

Yelp
Very cool spot in a small strip mall in Long Beach! Came here and enjoyed the beer and experience thoroughly. The Grasshopper IPA, Nodding Donkey DIPA, and Snake Oil dark lager were my favorites. They have a lot of seating, many TVs for sports and even a Ms. Pac Man with unlimited free play, which is my gfs favorite game! Service and pricing were great as well. Couldn't be happier with our decision to come here and will be back. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Great little spot next to Baja Sonora. You can order from Baja or bring your own food. They have all their own beers on tap today there are 6. I definitely enjoyed the Brut (Roughneck) and stout (Black Gold), but ended up getting a glass of the IPA (Grasshopper) which was solid. All in all a solid local brewery great for relaxing or getting work done.

Allison F.

Yelp
Very good selection. Great place to watch the game and sample some beers. Also willing to let you sample a couple before deciding, which I appreciate.

D N.

Yelp
On-site service experience may be 100% great, BUT my only complaint is the lack of contact information. It's frustrating for an online customer who needs to speak with staff outside of opening hours. My son is in the military and lost something very important while visiting there recently. I have been trying all morning to reach someone but nobody is prepping on-site, the listed website is blank, there is no voice-mail set up, and no business email address of any kind. These are traditional basic communication tools, why totally discard them in favor of SMS apps only? Like me, not all of us have Facebook or the Instagram so PLEASE, consider adding a business email.

Yelp
Very nice, friendly service. We tried a variety of beers and seltzers and really enjoyed our experience. The brewery was clean and comfortable.

Yelp
Full disclosure; I live in Chicago which happens to be a huge beer town. I'm spoiled by all the fantastic breweries there, their experience, & their offerings. I'm reviewing this brewery so that people who actually know what good beer tastes like & those from out of town can have a fighting chance of finding a decent spot for (good) locally brewed beer. Hell, even palatable beer. A few reasons for my 1 star review: 1) They serve beer in plastic cups (Minus the tasters). Let that one sink in. 2) Every one of their beers is severely undercarbed (even the styles that are supposed to be less carbonated). Don't believe me? Try a sip after a minute or 2 of them being poured and tell me it doesn't have the consistency of apple juice. 3) Though I didn't get any severe "off flavors" from their beers (minus the green apple in their Pilsner), non had any particular direction whatsoever. It was the quintessential "kitchen sink" approach and it showed. I even overheard their head brewer talking about a beer he brewed just to have the word "gold" in each product he used (ie, Golden Promise (malt), Styrian Golding (hops), etc). Are you kidding me? He also mentioned brewing a beer with all extract... "just because." (for those of you who don't know what this is - it means you'll be paying $7/pint for the equivalent of home-brewed beer). 4) Believe it or not, all these faults are normal for a brewery just starting up. It takes a bit to tune in the equipment; getting used to the efficiency & setup, etc. But from what I understand they've been around for a year now. That's plenty of time to polish up. Step up your recipe formulation and packaging game guys. And ditch the plastic.

Yelp
Awesome, awesome beer good music good vibes.. if your in the area check this place out. I was driving by on my lunch during a convention and saw this place out of the corner of my eye looking for a place to eat. Although they don't have any food they have killer beer!! On my 3rd as I write this review debating if I'm gonna head back to class or just study the book and drink killer beer for a couple hours! Thanks guys, pleasure to meet you and thank you for the simple explanation of the beers you have, makes me appreciate you/ the brewer that much more! Cheers to a kick-ass new up and coming business from one small business owner to another! Keep it up guys!

Yelp
With plenty of breweries to go to in Long Beach not sure why you would stop here. Beer selection is small and not complex and the setting is sub par. Sadly this comes in last on the lb brewery tour.
google avatar

Brent F.

Yelp
Stopped in for a couple of beers. Looked like the interior has been remodeled with amply seating plus two large TVs. A good place to relax and enjoy a beer.

Mark G.

Yelp
The beer tastes great. The porter is my favorite. Go and drink one. You can also get a pizza from the place next door.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
Beers are solid but for me its like being inside a daycare... lots of kids and families there. Definitely doesn't make for a nice chill spot to have beers with your buds. Don't get me wrong that's great if you got kids and you want a place to go and have beers while your kids run around and play. It just doesn't make for a good atmosphere for me IMO. That's why I gave it a 3-star rating.
