"The lines wrapped around the restaurant early this morning when Chicago’s first Steak ‘N Shake opened its doors for the first time. The fast-food chain that started in 1934 in Normal finally has a Chicago location near UIC at 1322 S. Halsted Street. Doors opened at 7 a.m. Thursday. Opening day guests included UIC men’s basketball coach Steve McClain. For a sneak preview on Wednesday, former Bears linebacker Chris Zorich, now athletic director at Chicago State University, stopped by. This Steak ‘N Shake is a 35 seater with a patio. It serves pancakes for breakfast and burgers for lunch and dinner." - Ashok Selvam

"The popular regional fast-food chain, known for its 'steakburgers,' will open to the public September 20. It’ll serve alcohol, breakfast, and a truncated menu of burgers and hot dogs in a 1,500-square-foot space with a sidewalk patio but no drive-thru." - Daniel Gerzina

"Chicago’s first Steak ‘N Shake has hit a few delays, but customers should be able to chomp on a steakburger sometime in late July near University of Illinois at Chicago’s campus at 1322 S. Halsted Street. When the restaurant opens, unlike most locations, this restaurant will sell alcohol. Store owner Melvin Buckley confirmed that it’ll have a variety of bottled beer." - Ashok Selvam

WOW! Yes that just about sums it up for this specific location. Steak ‘n Shake is already an awesome establishment and now in UIC making it so much easier to get your favorite selection from their menu. I went with friends and it was very quick service if I must say. We all ordered and had our food within 10 min or less. The staff was very professional as the security was also apart of the team work they had going on. Due to COVID they were taking orders at the door but the service was so fast it didn’t effect the wait time. The food was just as excellent as the customer service. I will most definitely eat here again. Swing by and pick up some of your favorites. Tell em Mr. Brown sent you! #mrbrownsaid #good #googleexpert #googlemap #googlereview #steaknshake

I came in on a Tuesday at 7:30pm and got my food within minutes, not sure what the other review meant about having to wait 20 min. Despite not being a full-service location, the burger tasted the same as any other. The fries were not fresh but I think that’s always a toss-up. Good place to get a cheap fast burger in the city 👍🏼

Manager is terrible! I came in to redeem my birthday reward & the manager was texting and on his phone in my face. Walking away taking calls. Saying I wouldn’t be able to redeem my reward. Very disrespectful & unprofessional. He also locked the doors around 930ish telling customers & Uber delivery drivers that he was not accepting anymore orders and to come back in a half hour. The store isn’t supposed to close til 1am. The crew members were complaining, saying his been disappearing leaving two crew members up front & one making orders all on his own. This is UNACCEPTABLE!! & should be handled ACCORDINGLY!! This crew deserves the proper leadership!

I highly do NOT RECOMMEND this place. Where do you start the staff is very rude . Customer service sucks food is terrible. I bit into a hard cold chicken tender and cracked my tooth what a day! I called to make them aware the fat old man who couldn’t rarely see tried to argue with me that food was cold and it it was the food they had sitting in that basket I wish I took a picture of they should be ashamed of themselves. I honestly don’t think I want to deal with management if it’s the same Courtney I think it is. Because she has an nasty attitude as well.

Update: This place is off the list. Now along with not that friendly service....they charge for mayo on a sandwich. $.65 and then swear to your face it's always been there. Margins I get but a swipe of condiment on the line; not a cup not an package but a line item is another reason why THIS business struggles. Breakfast- Late January...Good service on favorite breakfast items made SnS way pancakes fluffy, hash browns crispy, sausage egg and cheese on bun food mix of sweet and savory.

Good came out fast and was up to Steak and Shake quality. This location is more of a fast food location than a sit down restaurant. They do serve alcohol...This is my first of many future trips...

Finally one open in Chicago... Quite hard to find parking despite in the morning but definitely worth it... Ordered a double cheese w fries...And to top it of with a vanilla mshake.... Nice toasted bun that never go soggy... Fresh toppings with tomato onions n lettuce.. Got that cheese on that burger making it so delicious... Literally gave it a kiss French fries that can rival McDonald's...No kidding... Last but not least....Vanilla shake is the classic....A bomb...Calories with no shame... Great thanks to the owners and any investors that brought this in town for some dedicated fans...Thumbs up.....

My triple steakburger with cheese and with all of the condiments, fries, and Dr. Pepper meal was delicious. I appreciate the good service here. Thanks!
