Steak ‘N Shake brings its iconic steakburgers and milkshakes to Chicago, delivering retro diner vibes and quick, satisfying bites just steps from UIC.
"The lines wrapped around the restaurant early this morning when Chicago’s first Steak ‘N Shake opened its doors for the first time. The fast-food chain that started in 1934 in Normal finally has a Chicago location near UIC at 1322 S. Halsted Street. Doors opened at 7 a.m. Thursday. Opening day guests included UIC men’s basketball coach Steve McClain. For a sneak preview on Wednesday, former Bears linebacker Chris Zorich, now athletic director at Chicago State University, stopped by. This Steak ‘N Shake is a 35 seater with a patio. It serves pancakes for breakfast and burgers for lunch and dinner." - Ashok Selvam
"The popular regional fast-food chain, known for its 'steakburgers,' will open to the public September 20. It’ll serve alcohol, breakfast, and a truncated menu of burgers and hot dogs in a 1,500-square-foot space with a sidewalk patio but no drive-thru." - Daniel Gerzina
"Chicago’s first Steak ‘N Shake has hit a few delays, but customers should be able to chomp on a steakburger sometime in late July near University of Illinois at Chicago’s campus at 1322 S. Halsted Street. When the restaurant opens, unlike most locations, this restaurant will sell alcohol. Store owner Melvin Buckley confirmed that it’ll have a variety of bottled beer." - Ashok Selvam
