"This Southeast Powell sandwich shop is all about the Philly cheesesteak, from the traditional with Cheez Whiz and onions to the “supremes” with added veggies and white American cheese. These hulking sandwiches come with a choice of added toppings and the big three cheeses (Cheez Whiz, white American, or provolone), as well as others like cheddar and pepper jack. However you order it, the foundational meat on Steakadelphia sandwiches is juicy, thinly shaved, and plentiful — as it should be." - Alex Frane, Janey Wong

"The iconic green Steakadelphia is almost impossible to miss on busy Southeast Powell, but for many Portlanders, it somehow still flies under the radar. It’s worth stopping in to order one of Steakadelphia’s seven cheesesteak variants, including cheddar, pepper jack, and, for the bold at heart, cream cheese — the absorbent hoagies sometimes struggle to stand up. Up to a dozen toppings are entirely free, including mushrooms, pepperoncini, tomato, and peppers. Unique among Portland cheesesteak spots, Steakadelphia also specializes in simple, thick milkshakes, and carries over two dozen beers." - Nathan Williams

Steakadelphia has great cheese steaks. I also came here for burger week today. The burger was surprisingly good it was basic overall but just really well executed and delicious. It didn't look like much but it was really tasty. The fries were good as well They added some outdoor seating since I had been there last which was much needed because the place is pretty small.

Google
Steakadelphia is a staple in Portland...well I don't know if is, but it should be. When I think Portland, I think Steakadelphia. There is no better cheesesteak outside OR inside of Philly 🙀 . That's right, I said what I said. From provolone and cheese whiz to sweet peppers, olives, and pineapples. It is THE best sandwich in town, HANDS DOWN.

Google
My family and I have eaten here for years. The last few orders the quality has gone down, but I figured an off day. Well today took the cake. We ordered 3 sandwiches large size with extra meat, 2 with no bell peppers. The bread was old and small, very little meat and huge chunks of bell peppers in sandwiches. At almost $70 for 3 sandwiches because of extras I added and did not receive I just can't see us going back.

Google
One of the better Philly cheesesteak joints in the territory. This one's been on my list for a while to try. A few of the cheesesteak snobs in the Dining in the Couve Facebook group hold Steakadelphia high regard. I ordered a Philly with pepper jack cheese, black olives and jalapenos. All the Phillies come with onion. The end result is super tasty. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that makes it so delicious. It has a lot of flavor and I don't think it's just due to the jalapenos. The sauce was just a little bit of mayonnaise. The sandwich is not huge. I ate the whole thing for lunch. It's a good size for that. The sandwich and my soda came to just under $20 before tip. It's pretty pricey for what it is. For some people it'll be too much but I have to say I was pretty happy with it. There's not much room inside but the weather was great so we sat outside. The street parking is a bit challenging. I was lucky enough to find a spot not far away. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌🏼

Google
Service was kind and quick on a Wednesday afternoon! The pictures of the sandwiches do not do them justice! They are so full of flavor, and are decently priced for the amount of food you get!

Google
Every time my husband and I are on this side of town, we have to stop at steakadelphia! My husband and I love this place. We don't come here too often because it's far from home but it's always delicious! We get the Philly cheese steak with white american, cheese steak, and onions! They also have great milk shakes..

Kit Foreman

Google
Stopped in on the way out of town after a tattoo session. We both got the Rough Rider with steak and a couple of milkshakes. The fries were huge and perfectly salted, and the sammies were great. Will stop in again when we’re next in town.

Matthew Sanders

Google
Went in after a long day hoping for a quick meal. Not expecting fast food by any means but we were the only people in there and took over 15 minutes to get two sandwiches. I’d call the foods average then at best, which if you only specialize in one thing, felt it should have been a little better

Yelp
Cheese steak was excellent & fries were very good along with service Highly recommend look forward to visiting Beaverton facility Ron

Yelp
I finally had the chance to stop in and grab a Philly! You can't miss this green building from the street. Inside is nothing to write home about there are a couple TVs and maybe 4 or 5 places to sit and eat and one restroom. The menu is good size with lots of options, it made it hard to choose. But I went with the supreme that came with steak, white American, lettuce, tomato, peppers, onion, mushroom, and steakadelphia sauce and I got fries as well. I must say for $18 it was a good size meal. The sandwich was absolutely delicious, I think I'd give grant's the edge but this is a really close second. Staff are friendly and food came pretty quick considering how full the place was. I would come here again no questions asked.

Jules T.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for years, and now I wish I hadn't. I was definitely underwhelmed by the food, especially because of the whole "best Phillies in Portland" mentioned in so many reviews. My Philly was just okay at best. I asked for mushrooms (I think I got one, maybe two small slices?), there was no sign of cheese, the meat was just okay. The bread was really good, but I can go to lots of places for good bread! Plus the prices are CRAZY. Almost $20 for one sandwich? $4 for about 8 fries? I mean, they were thick, but I'd rather pay $10 and get a bunch of fries! The cheese dipping sauce was bland, too. Meh. I won't be back. It's not bad, it's just not great. (In my opinion.)

Natasha K.

Yelp
Best cheesesteak in pdx, hands down. The amount of toppings you can add is endless and the steak is melt in your mouth tender. The roll is soft and fluffy and provides the perfect vehicle to deliver the deliciousness in and around your mouth. Employees up front are extremely personable and friendly and didn't mind providing suggestions on what I should order. The inside is a bit cozy but i would rather enjoy this bad boy at home anyway. Will definitely be coming back next time I have a cheesesteak craving

Geoff G.

Yelp
The conundrum... Very good sandwiches but not a very cozy place to sit and eat. Food is 5/5, and they sell beer... but the inside is loud and annoying. They keep their early 2000s commercial hip hop extremely loud, probably so the staff in the back can hear it. But it's so loud you basically have to raise your voice in order to talk to your friend. Sitting outside means sitting right on Powell. The only other option is to go, but Philly sandwiches are famously bad to go as they will turn into mush by the time you get where you're going. Still, this is probably the best option. Still, very good sandwiches.

R B.

Yelp
Best Philly in town!! A large sandwich will fill even my 15y old son! Service is always friendly! Small parking lot behind the building, leaving only tight on street parking. Highly recommend!!!

Christie F.

Yelp
This place is authentic and the sandwiches are amazing! I don't know why it has a low rating because it's consistently good they even bring their rolls in from the East Coast!

Marquise H.

Yelp
Tasty, great customer service. Haven't been here in years recently went and they remember my order.

Roger H.

Yelp
Great grub every time we come. Suggest you try the cheezewhiz variety with ripe olives, hot peppers and bell peppers. The flavor will knock you out!

Lisa H.

Yelp
I moved to Portland a couple of years ago from the east coast and have been in search of an exceptional Philly Cheesesteak since then. Today I was excited to try Steakadelphia. All they do cheesesteaks. It has to be good right? My very first bite had bone fragments in it. That's usually when I stop eating, but I wanted to give them a fair shake. The sandwich was great, but halfway through, more bone. All done!

Andrew S.

Yelp
I thought the sandwich was good, maybe 3.5 stars, but the order of fries for $4.95 was just a little cup up fries made from frozen. Frozen fries are super cheap and easy to make, even from fresh. Being greedy with mediocre fries is super lame! It should be a big mess of fries for $5, like every other restaurant. Cheap restaurants stink and my review reflects it!

William T.

Yelp
Great food!! Friendly staff. Beware the loaded fries, the cook loves his jalapeños! Good thing they have strawberry Fanta on tap! Great luck for a random stop. We will keep them in mind in the future.

Deborah B.

Yelp
My husband and I work nearby and order takeout from Steakadelphia about once a month. There is some variability depending on who is working, but for the most part their food is great and we will continue to go back. Definitely recommend getting the supreme and we like it with pepper jack instead of American. Staff is friendly and helpful. We've never eaten in the restaurant, so can't speak to that. They are quite busy on the regular so suggest calling ahead if you want take out.

Sheila H.

Yelp
I ordered 2 steak Philly tonight for $24. It was worth $5 ea. The bread was dry , the meat, cheese was dry. I ordered olives onions extra cheese green peppers, all I got was a little bit 2tablespoons of meat. I am so disappointed. Iam writing this because I want the owner to know. These young people working there are destroying your business. If things don't change you will not be open very much longer. Sorry about that. I would love to support your business but not when its not any good. Well I guess thats enough I just hope he turns it around. Thank you for your time Sheila Howard

Maro S.

Yelp
I love these Cheesesteaks. The steak/mushroom with white American is the absolute best. We have tried a lot of Portland's cheesesteaks and these are the best. BUT, they almost always run behind, today was about 20 minutes behind, and they seem to default to adding ketchup so we have ended up with either accidental dollops of ketchup or full squirts all over the bun more than once. Cheesesteaks do not need ketchup. Also, today's steak seemed really under-filled. I ended up moving the meat from one half to the other to just double the meat on one side and throw out the other. I'm not gonna mess with their stars and I'm not gonna stop going, but I do wish they were more reliable since their cheesesteaks are so good.

Andy Z.

Yelp
None of the steaks I've had in Philly (or anywhere else) come close to Steakadelphia. Probably the best sandwich in Portland.

Tani T.

Yelp
Totally disappointed. They watered down the cheese and ruined the sandwich. The bread got totally soggy and the cheese ran out all over the paper.

Jin K.

Yelp
The customer service was really great, but the philly I ordered was just OK. I had ordered the original philly with cheese whiz. The flavor was somewhat there, the meat was pretty dry and bland and also, where was the the cheese? I know there was cheese on the philly because I tasted the aftermath, but literally there was no cheese on the philly, pretty much steak and bread. Maybe I'll come by and give it another shot one of these days who knows..

Jason O.

Yelp
Steakadelphia did not disappoint l, this was my first time here and definitely not the last! I got the chicken and added extra along with extra white American cheese and also bacon, I got the "large" sandwich and it filled me up! There was the Steakadelphia sauce on it also that does give a little sweet taste, next time I go I will hold off on that, not that it was bad but I prefer non sweet. They have a small indoor area to sit and there was 1 tv playing sports, there is also a few outdoor picnic tables that are covered. The staff was friendly and handled the rush of business very good

Angel C.

Yelp
Ive been in Portland for 5 months. Originally from Baltimore. My quest for a decent cheesesteak steak on the west coast in general, but specifically Portland, has been an abysmal, disappointing journey. Portland is famous for its food - so WHY could I not find a good cheesesteak!?! Look. If you don't like THIS cheesesteak, you do not like Philly cheesesteaks. And that is fine. Plenty of other options. But this is it. FINALLY. This is the one. The reason, is simple: Correct bread. Correct steak. Correct peppers (get a mix of sweet and hot peppers). Provolone cheese. Correct. Correct. Correct. Well done to these guys.

Stephen B.

Yelp
I give up on this place. Decent food, bad service. My online order for two sandwiches said 25 minutes. I got there 30 minutes later and they weren't ready. It took another 20 minutes to get 2 sandwich's. No apologies, no explanation. I just wish I had not pre-tipped.

Paul L.

Yelp
Great.sandwich, friendly service, quick prep, nice basic seating inside or out, 5 stars.

Terry W.

Yelp
I bought a Rough Rider and a Philly. They are BOTH excellent but boy the sauce you put on the RR is tops! Big thank you! So good!

K K.

Yelp
Update** Had a bit of a snafu with an order and management handled it w stellar customer service. If I hadn't already left 5 stars, I'd be bumping it now. Thank you for taking good care of me and showing that you stand behind what you do! I'm not going to claim to know anything about what a cheesesteak should be but these folks serve up great sandwiches. My fries were fresh and hot, perfectly salted. Idk if these are the same ppl from the mlk location back in the day but damn I loved that place too.

Matt D.

Yelp
So good, blows the competition out of the water in terms of authenticity. Nailed it! Thanks!

Jennifer L.

Yelp
I haven't been here in a long time because, well, it's just not good. It wasn't my choice, but family was visiting fro out of town and they wanted it because it was super close. I didn't say much because I had no idea if they'd maybe gotten better over the years. They haven't. Service is lackluster at best. Place is rundown, but you wouldn't probably eat here anyway because it's so small. The food is still disappointing, but at least they no longer charge extra for the basics like peppers and onions. It just looked like a mess and was not the size you'd get elsewhere. Everything is so chopped up there's really no point ordering things like peppers and mushrooms. And the fries were just fries, nothing special. I think I'll continue to stay away.

Nonya N.

Yelp
It's been years since I came here. Every time I used to ask for no steakadepia sauce and every single time they put it on anyway. Decided to try it again today. Ordered no sauce and sure enough they put it on anyway. Really? It's a simple request, what is wrong with your employees. Worse since the last visit, the amount of meat, toppings and cheese has gone down. The sandwich is now very skimpy. Lastly it used to be a good quality meat that came out juicy. It's now dry and bland.

Damian D.

Yelp
I don't think I would call it a cheesesteak, I ordered the cheez wiz, and there wasn't much cheez. It did have plenty of sauce which really didn't work for me.

Kevin W.

Yelp
You can easily notice this building from traffic. They have picnic tables on the outside, large windows, green signs, and a trail of customers out the door. The private lot is pretty small so most people use street parking. Street parking is plentiful. The menu is large and easy to make a choice. They have fountain soda, bottle/can soda, 4 local beers on tap, and bottle/can beer. I ordered the small (8") Pepper jack cheese steak with some free sandwich toppings. Took 10-15 minutes to get our order. This place only has 1 restroom. The food is decent. For the price, I was expecting a bigger sandwich but it was filling so it was the right size. I will try other places before I come back here. Inside seating is not that great and they had old football games on the TV.

William H.

Yelp
Loved it, sandwich was fat. Haven't found another place that has kept me coming back like this. Caveman is bomb.

Annie Y.

Yelp
So i ordered for takeout, i got an xtra large philly cheesesteak. Firstly they didnt send a text out when it was ready (which they normally do) and so i ended up getting it 40 mins later when it was already cold. Unfortunately the xtra large was the same as the large, it seems the only difference was the almost $18 price. I asked for mushrooms, lettuce, and pepperoncini. There was a good amount of the pepperoncini, but there were no mushrooms to be found and only a very very small amount (one leaf i believe) of lettuce on the bottom, i was also suprised to see some green bell pepper and pickle of which i didnt order. The only reason im giving two stars is because the sandwich does taste good, i just wish i got what i ordered and paid for. I want to keep ordering food from here, i just wish they were more consistent with the orders given and sending out the messages when done.

Brad H.

Yelp
Have heard about it for years. Finally gave it a shot. Good old fashion philly steak. Many options. I'll know better next time what and how to order Would recommend if you want a good traditional philly steak

Joseph C.

Yelp
I just love their Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwiches I personally prefer my customized to my convenience but it's still really good and they also make great milkshakes there too I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family for the years to come. Joseph Carrasco

lauren s.

Yelp
This place use to be so good?? what HAPPENED? i saw these reviews and thought "that's weird" but no it's so dry and disgusting. almost not edible? where's the cheese?

Brenna M.

Yelp
Decent with the potential to be great. The portions (bread:meat ratio) is way off. Too much bread and they need to invest in higher quality meat. Cheesesteak is almost flat and you can't see any filling from outside of bread. Fries are crispy yet bland with zero seasoning. Food is good but amount of actual cheesesteak in the sandwich is disappointing.

Tanya W.

Yelp
What a shamePaid 14.75 + tip for a sub quality sandwich. The quality has declined beyond acceptable from what it used to be. Hardly any meat, dried up not juicy, cheese on one side as well as most of the meat, ended up being MOSTLY BREAD! Steakadelphia for years USED TO BE great. Also waited patiently 30 minutes for it as I was an in person orderer vs. online, food dasher company or phone in.... Only to receive a substandard sandwich

Todd H.

Yelp
That's right I've upped my star count here. 3 for caring enough to be open during this scare and fear campaign. Plus they have it down. Order ahead come on in and pick it up. It's funny to me at least that their service has improved during these times. I guess it takes the out of the ordinary to make you look at your daily operations and see now you can function. That introspect has created more attention to detail and promoter attention to customers as they come in. My idea is a beer while you wait. Just a small beer or beverage to kind of create that safe feeling and make it more normal. Maybe $1 dollar beers while you wait. I don't know just thinking out loud. Support seems to be up for this restaurant so keep it up.

Bubba Y.

Yelp
Pandemic update. Steakadelphia is doing takeout. We called ahead for our order, they told us 20 minutes. Timing was spot on. All items were good to go when we picked them up, maybe only had to wait about five minutes. So many businesses are having a tough time. It's great that we can patronize our local favorites to help keep them going!

Kenny H.

Yelp
Yummo! Fantastic! Bravo! This place is delicious! 3rd trip to this cafe without disappointment and a happy belly.

Adam G.

Yelp
My go-to for a Philly in Portland. Really good food and they uniquely offer the ability to customize your cheesesteak (or other menu item) with a ton of toppings and condiments. Most of the toppings are free to add, too! I always order the large Philly Cheesesteak and add horseradish, Jalapeños, and mild peppers. It's Bomb.com

Jo V.

Yelp
Ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Pros, tasty, good bread. Cons, forgot to add free toppings (4 requested), skimpy meat, extra cheese helped! Pricey for what you get, $13. Even so, I would recommend giving this place a try.

David G.

Yelp
Found this location during Burger Week 2022, they had a cheesestaek burger (onions, peppers, bacon, cheesesteak sauce), it was the best of the 5 burgers the wife and I tried during Burger Week. Have gone back at least once a month since. My still gets them to make that Burger Week burger for her, I have been getting the Rough Rider (the horseradish sauce gives it a great kick). Dave remebers my wife and I every visit, just asks if want the usual. Their fries are also some of the best I have found, crispy, hot and a good potato taste. They are very resonably priced. I will continue to eat there often, and recommend other give them a try. I have had cheesesteak sandwichs in Philadelphia, and these are better than they have there!

roberta s.

Yelp
If only getting delivery was easier I would order weekly. Yummmmm! The people are helpful and amazing! Eat this!

Jessica C.

Yelp
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! I got the philly cheesesteak and added pineapples. It's added the right amount of sweetness to the sandwich! I will definitely be back to try more on the menu, I saw that they had shakes as well!

K M.

Yelp
Cool vibe, decently simple menu. Great beer on tap. They have a large pepper selection, and a good amount of seating for such an efficiently sized place. The food was delicious and the cheese mixed in with the meat perfectly.

Ken A.

Yelp
I went there with my son. We each had a large cheesesteak and I had a cider and it was $29 and I left hungry. The cheesesteak was ok. They make them differently here compared to a true philly cheesesteak. They actually wanted to charge me extra to give their house sauce on the side instead of putting it on the sandwich itself as they wanted to. So instead I got their provolone cheesesteak with onions, mushrooms and hot peppers. I actually had to dig thru the meat to find onion and mushrooms let alone any cheese.

C C.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. My dad eats lunch here every day whenever he visits us from out of town. They are not quick, so order ahead!

Sonja F.

Yelp
You will not be disappointed. Steakadelphia is where tastebuds delight. My heart is always warmed by the service and the food. Sadly I'm leaving the Portland area but have recommended this place to everyone I know! Best Philly cheesesteaks! Made to order.
