Wheat Ridge’s Newest Restaurant Is a Monument to the Gooey Glory of Mac and Cheese | Eater Denver

"A popular Pearl Street coffee shop run by twin brothers Zahi and Hani Yaafouri is expanding into a 110-year-old former fire station, where the owners plan a sensitive restoration to retain the building's historic character. The design-savvy first location, housed in an old Pearl Street house, is known for its exposed brick, industrial lighting, and garage doors that open onto a patio; the new site will be redesigned by one of the owners (an architect) to make the coffee shop fit the former Fire Station No. 7 while preserving its historic feel." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Google
This is a wonderful place to spend some time, read a book, get some work done or meet with friends. I would give the vibe 6 stars if I could. The staff is friendly and efficient. There is a little lack of knowledge about their beans but the coffee is tasty. I had a good espresso, a golden chai and a pastry. All were good and worth the calories. This place is definitely worth going out of your way to accomplish that slow start to your day.

Google
I didn’t plan enough time to wait for my bagel to be made and be able to start work down the street on time and so I said I’d have to come back later to get it. One of the staff literally ran it down to me!!! How amazing is that? Great ambience in an uplifting old firehouse. Pastries and coffee are delicious!

Google
We really enjoyed the flat whites, one with regular milk and the other with oat milk. Both were rich and flavorful, with a delicious cocoa nib note that stood out. Definitely some of the best coffee we've had around town. We’ll absolutely be back to enjoy the unique atmosphere this old firehouse has to offer!

Google
Such a cute and cozy coffee shop, I love coming here when the weather is nice and sitting on their patio. Lots of seating and great coffee

Google
I did not have any food here but the drinks were made with care and quality. I enjoyed the shot, which was made to order with fresh pressed juice and spices, alongside a lovely and balanced cortado. It may seem like a little thing, but it’s so nice when the provision of sparkling water is provided alongside an espresso drink, it really helps bring out some of the lovely roasting notes from good beans! Last but not least, although it was the first thing I noticed with immense gratitude… even though the place was packed and busy, I was greeted upon entering 🙌🏽 It’s wild how this touch of hospitality is not a sure thing anymore, so it makes a very warm difference when hard working staff make that extra effort. Thank you so much for a great experience at Steam, to the kind and thoughtful, baristas!

Google
Unique & Fantastic Coffee Spot at Steam Espresso Bar - Firehouse Cafe Steam Espresso Bar at the Firehouse Cafe is such a special find! Housed in an old fire station, the space has so much character, and they’ve kept amazing features like the original fireman’s pole, which adds a unique touch to the whole experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. The coffee is simply outstanding – rich, flavorful, and made with care. Whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or enjoying one of their expertly crafted drinks, you won’t be disappointed. The staff is warm and friendly, making you feel welcome from the moment you step in. This place is a must-visit for coffee lovers and anyone looking to enjoy a great cup of coffee in a space with real history and charm!

Google
Great coffee shop, crowded but nice vibes! I got a medium roast drip and they ran out so they gave me a free refill. All the other drinks looked delicious

Google
This is everything a coffee shop should be. Fresh, *strong* coffee, delicious pastries & bagels. Environment and staff made it feel like having coffee at a friend’s house :)

Yelp
Did I just get a vivacious coffee shop experience in a fire station??? Yes indeed: steam has taken an old fire station and transformed it into a large open space coffee station. The giant middle area is taken over by the coffee bar, and seating is around the main attraction (where the coffee is made). The inside is bright and airy and a fun vibrant environment. We went before a farmers market and it was so busy! Despite that, they were so fast at getting our order. It did take some time to get our coffee but that's ok. The latte was your standard latte, but the pastry was amazing. I would come here again to show the unique space, truly wont find another experience like this.

Yelp
A friend and I visited Steam for a quick coffee meet up and I was excited to find a new cafe! There was lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, including good spots for people looking to work. The coffee was tasty and very full!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute coffee shop in the highlands - we biked from Edgewater and there were bike stands outside the shop. Awesome selection of pastries, we got the h and cheese + blueberry cream cheese and they were both amazing. Coffee was strong and tons of indoor/outdoor seating - perfect for a work from coffee shop with wifi.

Yelp
Our stop here was totally random -- and so lucky! We ordered the Mediterranean bagel, and wow, what a pleasant surprise. Packed with veggies, chili oil, and pure deliciousness. Such an unexpected treat! I only wish we lived nearby so we could order that bad boy again.

Yelp
An absolutely picture-perfect way to start a day in Highland, Steam is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shops I have ever visited. Housed within an old firehouse and featuring plenty of modern indoor and garden seating, this spot calls out to you from its prime corner location on Tejon. Service was quick and efficient, and their cold brew and gluten-free financiers were some of the best morning treats I have had in recent memory. A must for the mornings, Steam is one of my favorite Denver spots.

Yelp
I finally made it in here and not only in a cute part of LoHi but a cute ambiance and place. The staff were sweet and friendly but on a Sunday at 10:30 it gets packed and service can take a bit. I got an oatmilk latte with a chocolate raspberry croissant. Never had that flavor of a croissant but it was bomb and I think all croissants need to have those pairings of fillings lol. The latte woke me up and was good. I love a good cafe with a nice vibe and good bites and coffee. I will comeback here in the future and recommend.

Yelp
I was on the hunt for the perfect coffee shop while on vacation. Have to say I'm very happy to have found this place. We were about a seven minute walk from our hotel and even though we had so many other shops around us this one just spoke to me. As I took my morning walk to earn my coffee :-) I was excited to find such a cute use of space. I'm guessing it used to be a firehouse? Everybody was super friendly and welcoming. Decided to get latte which was done to perfection. I love when I can actually taste coffee versus it being too much milk. Didn't have to make many adjustments. Prices were reasonable to my coffee was five dollars. I would definitely come back here for my morning wake up :)
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cute little coffee shop located in an old firehouse building. They've kept some structural parts of the old building and it makes it look so unique! I ordered an Americano and ham and cheese croissant. Both were delightful. I had to finish some work and I didn't see any outlets near by but had a full charge at the time. They do have wi-fi and it seemed to be hit or miss on speed for me. I ended up using my hot spot. The staff was so friendly and welcoming! I would definitely come back for more coffee and pastries!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
This place is awesome! How cool is it that an old fire house could be converted to an espresso bar? Coffee was delicious, service was top notch and the decor was great. First time here and I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Kathy N.

Yelp
Really fun environment - an old firehouse, complete with tall engine-bay doors, public phone booth, and firepole. Beautiful outdoor patio with flower boxes. The menu lives up to the style. It's mostly limited to scones, muffins, and croissants, though one croissant had eggs. Scones are dry and crisp (no clotted-style cream offered), and they do not have the ability to warm them, but it doesn't matter. They pair beautifully with a drink. Coffee drinks are elegantly and artistically finished, rich and flavorful, and served in wonderful cups with thick sides and large handles that I would buy for my home. Go if you get the chance. We were visiting but would be regulars if we lived locally.
google avatar

Erinn V.

Yelp
So adorable!! Outside seating is super cute and open. Inside there is plenty of seating they do not have flavorings as they make the focus on the espresso. They also have fresh squeezed juices which looked fresh and delightful. Barista was super friendly and very efficient.
google avatar

Aurora D.

Yelp
I was waiting for the breakfast restaurant next-door to open, so decided to stop in and check out this espresso bar. First of all, the ambience is adorable. Stationed in an old fire house, lots of plants, a wooden bar, copper top tables, and plenty of light. Because this was my first time in, I asked for a recommendation and was told that all of their drinks are special! However, they particularly recommended their chai, so I tried a half-and-half, half spicy and half sweet. I enjoyed it very much and had a pleasant 20 minutes, sitting and chatting with a friend until the restaurant opened. A very nice experience and would be happy to go back.
google avatar

Trisha B.

Yelp
This place is cute and clean, definitely a cool vibe. And while I respect a concise menu, it felt a little weird that there were zero coffee syrups (these do not have to be chemical-laden, homemade syrups at easy and delicious!) and honey was the only "flavor" option. I had a good iced latte, my husband a so-so americano. A couple of the pastries were good, but the vanilla scone was so hard it was inedible. We were simply visiting Denver, but would not be a return visit if we lived nearby.
google avatar

Marley U.

Yelp
Got a latte with honey, and it was good! I little milky for me, I like it to be a bit stronger in my opinion. The milk was good, steamed very nicely. (I'm really picky about my lattes sorry) Love the vibe in here with all the plants! I wish there was more seating, but to be fair went on a Saturday morning so makes sense it was just.
google avatar

Abs F.

Yelp
Cutest coffee shop in Denver! Perfect vibes to grab a drink and pastry to catch up with the friends. The workers are super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend gate keeping this spot from your influencer friends because it's too perfect!
google avatar

Jerry O.

Yelp
Wow! Loving the coffees at the Steam Espresso Bar. The oat milk lattes we had were smooth and robust, with a mild full body coffee flavor. Ahhh! We have not tried any food here. Though their pastries looked delicious. Very friendly and warm service. Strong community vibe here. They also have an amazing outdoor garden area. So nice. Definitely worth a stop!!
google avatar

Marina H.

Yelp
Such a perfect reuse of a historic space. The cafe feels light and airy but still allows for private conversation. Master-crafted drinks and pastries that looked so scrummy. Lots of outdoor seating options, too. Note no dogs are allowed inside, however. Cute neighborhood spot for a cup of coffee!
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Great place for coffee, meeting up with friends, doing some work on a laptop, or having a bite to eat. Spacious and open atmosphere in a cool historic neighborhood building, with lots of seating. The coffee is excellent and the pastries and awesome! Baristas and service were friendly. It can be easy to miss from the outside when walking or driving by...FYI.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
Overall, the ambiance of this place is great. There is so much space, it is such a great spot to work at and not be stressed about getting a seat. They do close at 3. I got a cold chai tea latte and it was delicious. None of the lids fit for our to go cups we got so not ideal but not a deal breaker. Overall, I got my coffee fast and loved the vibe of the inside and outside. Would def come again.
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
Cutest little coffee shop and so spacious inside!! Went in on a Sunday morning and the barista was really patient and sweet. They do cute latte art on the hot drinks
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
My new favorite coffee and study spot in Denver! - great open space with plenty of seating and stylish interior - if you come to read a book or study, I'd recommend avoiding peak hours as people get loud and seats with good bright lighting are limited (mostly the ones at the bar) - friendly service - I loved my cappuccino
google avatar

Ingrid P.

Yelp
I am a little ashamed to say that I've lived in the area for the last 2.5 years and only recently went to Steam since I am a loyal customer to a couple of other local coffee shops. However, I am glad I stopped in the last couple of weeks. I needed to get work done and needed a place I could walk to. The espresso is decent - I wasn't able to distinctly taste the espresso from the Sweet Bloom beans they use. Highlights of this Steam location: Large seating area, plenty of windows to people watch, non-coffee options (juices) Only downside: I could not find any outlets Not a bad neighborhood coffee place if you need to grab a cup or get some work done!
google avatar

Ted G.

Yelp
Excellent!! The best in-house baked pastries!! All natural ingredients in all that they do. A new regular at the Steam Expresso Bar! The best!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Steam's new location in the Highlands did not disappoint! Located inside of an old firehouse, this location is hip and trendy, with the same tasty coffee at the Pearl St location. At around 10:30 on a Friday, it was a packed house. It took a while to find a seat and was fairly loud and lively -- just a heads up if you're somebody who needs a quiet coffee shop environment to power through some work. So excited to have Steam in the neighborhood and can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Erica Z.

Yelp
Love this old firehouse turned coffee shop. I was looking for a cute cafe to come work at and this pace is perfect. Lots of space and seating. They have lots of options for coffee, tea, juice and pastries. Great vibe to come read a book, meet a friend, or get some work done.

Yelp
I spent a few hours at Steam doing the digital nomad thing along with all of the other young professionals in Denver. When I arrived around 11AM the place was packed and I nabbed the last table available. I ordered a chai tea latte to sip while I worked. Service was friendly and relaxed and the person that rang me up offered me sweet, spicy, or a mix for my chai. I love a good "best of both worlds" option, so I went for the mix. My drink did take a little while to prepare but I didn't mind since I was posted up anyway. When I tried it, I was slightly underwhelmed. It was lightly sweet but not very spiced and tasted mostly of milk with a vague hint of chai spice. I would've preferred it to be a bit punchier but it was still nice and the mug that it was served in was so ergonomic that it made up for the lackluster chai a little. I didn't have a pastry this time but they looked great and got rave reviews from the patrons around me. All in all- would come again.

Yelp
I like stopping at new coffee shops and this was a good find. It's a cute firehouse themed shop. The staff is friendly and I enjoyed the iced americano suggested by the staff since their cold brew was not ready.

Ashley P.

Yelp
Great cafe to hang at, the vibes are immaculate! Got the cold brew, which was Boxcar Roasters- DELISH! Fabulous service, the eats menu looked amazing too.

Yelp
My toddler and I enjoyed a nice morning at Steam yesterday. I've been meaning to check it out for awhile now and am surprised it took so long. It's super cute inside- bright, with high ceilings and stylish decor. One of our favorite things to do is visit coffee shops and share either a hot chocolate or a hot tea and a pastry and read on days when it's a bit chilly to play outside. I was very impressed by the quality of Steam's pastries- we shared a bear claw that tasted fresh and was the right amount of sweet with a delicious almond paste filling. We also shared a hot chocolate, which wasn't super sweet and was really good. They were very crowded when we were there so we ended up sharing a stool across from where they make their juices. My son had fun talking about the different fruits and vegetables they put in and we're both looking forward to our next visit, when we'll definitely be breaking from our tradition and getting a made to order juice.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
We found this place as we were actually going to chicken rebel nearby (which ended up being closed). It's located inside an older fire station which is a very cool added ambiance and touch. Once inside the staff was very friendly and the coffee was amazing. The pastries were good as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Another huge win for Hani and crew. While I tend to frequent the original Steam on Pearl, and have since before they even opened, this location brings all the love, wonderful ambiance and coffee that the OG location does. The owner has been a friend of mine for 15ish years and could not be a kinder and just downright wonderful person to be around. He's transferred all of his love and attention to quality to yet another location and I'm so happy for his success. It's well deserved and you'd be making a huge mistake if you don't get your cup of Joe from Steam. Make it a morning and enjoy the kindness of the staff, the impromptu convos with other guests and try some delicious baked goods. You will not be sorry.
google avatar

Alejandro L.

Yelp
If you are a Coffee Adventurer like I am, then you will really appreciate this Espresso Bar! I purchased two drinks, a Hot Chocolate which is pictured below , and an Oat Latte. I didn't go for any of the delicious bakery treats they had since I like where my waistline is; but I would definitely go back and try a few when I have more flexibility with what I am eating. The Hot chocolate was smooth and almost had a dark chocolate taste to it, NOT BITTER though; I thought it was the perfect balance since most hot chocolate are prepared with bombs of sugar. The latte was so good, that it didn't make the cut for a picture since I drank it too fast lol Come check out this cozy spot if you're in the area!
google avatar

Aundya A.

Yelp
This morning we got espresso from the @steam_espressobar in LoHi! I loved that they transformed a historic firehouse in the Highlands into a cafe. Their espresso over ice was the perfect pick me up after a day of climbing.
google avatar

Earl L.

Yelp
This place was awesome. Coffee shop in an old firehouse. We were in Denver visiting my brother and this place was right around the corner. Nice atmosphere, plenty of seating inside and out and great coffee....would recommend this place to anyone (don't forget to eat a pastry, super delicious).
google avatar

Mariya S.

Yelp
This is literally my favorite coffee shop in Denver and I'm willing to drive 17-30 min each time to this place, cause I know that great coffee and delicious pastry are waiting for me. The outside area is the cutest in town!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Oh man! I forgot how good Steam Espresso Bar is since I've only been to the OG location once. But now that there's a new location nearby I will definitely be frequenting! Steam opened up a new location in an old firehouse in the Highlands and it couldn't be a more perfect spot! Beautiful interior, large outdoor space, great drinks, and some of the best pastries I've ever had. I tried a cruffin for the first time and I'll be back just to get my hands on those. But they also make my fav chai tea latte in town, perfect mix of sweet and spicy since they ask you what your preference is.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop in an old firehouse. Very cozy and great coffee! Lots of gluten free pastry options!

Dustin M.

Yelp
Delightful place! It is not quick coffee. Stick to your preferred drive-thru spot for speedy bean juice. The coffee here is made with intent and care, aimed at a solid, quality cup of caffeine.
google avatar

Joel B.

Yelp
Possibly the best cortado I've had in Denver. I also recommend the fruit/veggie firehouse juice; Super fresh and made to order.
google avatar

Chloe R.

Yelp
The vibe, pastries, and coffee here are all incredible!! The historic-firehouse-turned-coffee shop idea is so good, and I could eat this blueberry croissant again any day. Unfortunately I had an awkward interaction with the staff that put me off of this place - I found an open outlet that was zip tied shut and needed to charge my laptop for work, but when I asked at the counter about it, I was told forcefully that you "aren't allowed" to use outlets here because they'd prefer if their guests "actually speak to each other". As a full-time virtual employee that's always looking for local businesses to support as I work, this response made me pretty uncomfortable.
google avatar

Irina S.

Yelp
Their mocha is so good, with real chocolate. Service is excellent, place is beautiful. Did we mention it's an old firehouse with the pole still in place?

Jennifer Z.

Yelp
Super cute place! Coffee and pastry were great. The women playing the harp at the entrance was such a treat. Very spacious and has a dog friendly patio.
google avatar

Lindsay D.

Yelp
Steam's coffee is amazing. Sadly, parking can be a little tricky to find. The shop has parking for people who are getting their coffee to go in front of the shop, which came in clutch when I went. Definitely recommend this coffee spot for anyone who is curious and wanting to check it out!
google avatar

Khyber M.

Yelp
Cool place, great for working. The tables fill out quickly in the mornings but you'll probably be able to find one later on in the day. Drinks are okay, but definitely come here for the vibe.

Dani S.

Yelp
Lots of space, awesome vibe, this is going to be a Denver staple. I would like to see more food selection, but their focus is currently pretty good!
google avatar

Christian R.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee bar for a quick stop or a longer stay to chat with friends. The baristas are friendly, the drinks are fantastic, and the old firehouse is a great backdrop for working, talking, or just hanging out. I'm proud to support this local immigrant-owned business!
google avatar

Bennett D.

Yelp
Great coffee, but no outlets so -1 (could be a +1 depending on your preference). Nice place, would come back, but not to work.

susie s.

Yelp
We love Steam, all the locations. Thank you for creating a place that feels like a community.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the worst drip coffee I've ever had. I had to add 4 sugars and 2 drips of cream to make it somewhat palatable, and I always drink black coffee. Super cool building and nice staff.... But don't get drip coffee. I give 3 stars for all the great things they have going. But find better drip coffee. Please.
