How These Pickle-Loving Chefs are Putting Canada on the Map

"A Willowdale deli credited as the place where Kevin Jeung first tasted a kosher dill, a formative moment that helped awaken his interest in pickles; it was part of regular family deli feasts after his grandfather retired and is associated with classic deli fare that left a lasting impression on his palate." - Ivy Knight

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem with Heart Steel City Deli is an absolute standout! The atmosphere gets a solid 100 — you can tell a ton of care and creativity went into the decorating, and it instantly makes you feel welcome. The staff are incredibly warm and down-to-earth, creating a homey vibe that’s hard to find these days. And the food? Immaculate. Every bite was clearly made with love and attention to detail. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, this place treats you like family. Highly recommend!

Its been a while since I had actually decent service while eating out in this town. Very friendly staff especially after they had a rush earlier in day. This is super simple sandwiches and chips basically for lunch, nothin mind blowin, but considering its just open for lunch one can't expect a ton of options. Atmosphere was alright I do miss what it looked like as Schleps but the owner is trying to find her own groove now.

I just had the Italian this afternoon and took a picture of it to send to my husband. Yummy! … Stacked meats, fresh lettuce, tasty all around. All sides are homemade and the potato one was delicious.

Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Got grossed out when I saw a worker using her phone, counting change then making our food.. Do workers not believe in gloves? Gloves would have made a huge difference. Almost just left the food.. Figured a review was a lot better than calling the health department here in town. Was starving and short on time, my wife was on her break, didn't have time to argue about it. Thought we'd still try it, after all we don't use gloves at home, but should have said something because it was gross. The cheese seemed to be old, smelled gross, even taking out of sandwich didn't work. Bread didn't seem fresh and even the lettuce was a little slimy. Giving this place the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was a rough day for them. But certainly will not spend another $26 on food that's off and workers who don't care or know about food handling. Seems like management here likes to argue with reviews, doesn't matter because others need to be forewarned about wasting their money on less than mediocre (at best) food. Do Better Steel City Deli

The food was delicious! Everything was fresh! The atmosphere is nostalgic. We got the steel city club and Buffalo chicken avocado melt and they were both loaded with ingredients and flavor!

I ordered a #2 on wheat and it was delicious, fresh and well constructed. The staff was very friendly and clearly care about what they're doing. The dining room is spacious and very clean. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
I had the special roast beef French dip It was very flavorful and was a rather large portion for the price I'll return to try some of their other daily specials soon!

Yelp
The staff is friendly and prepare a decent sandwich. However, when asked about their meats she said they use Boars head. There is absolutely no signage to verify this. The sides were not good. Pasta overcooked and not seasoned properly. I had originally wanted a meatball sub but they don't make the meatballs in house. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but they don't have corned beef either. Corned beef is standard fare in any decent deli.

Yelp
Very good food- homemade roast and pulled pork. Extensive menu. Something for everyone! This week they even did the original 'Hay Day' sandwich. Friendly staff willing to help, even if busy. Nicely cleaned up- and a very cool jukebox for music! Did I mention good music? My son eats there at least 2x a week. Can't wait to try the hay day next week.
