"This Brewery’s taproom opened in 2013 and currently is the only one operating in SLP. With varying seasonal and year-round brews, the offerings are highly focused on the Ale lover. With both inside and outside seating, Steel Toe serves as a multi-faceted place to consume and commiserate." - Eater Staff

Place has a great atmosphere! Friendly staff and food trucks, plus live music on certain days. Beer is flavorful and strong. Check it out, especially as a local.

Kyle Phillips

Google
Great beer, great atmosphere, and great staff. They brew my favorite IPA in Minnesota (Size 7). They have an excellent outdoor seating area. I strongly encourage you to check it out! Update: All of the above is still true. Another update: Still true. (Google, stop pressuring me to update my reviews!) A third update: Still true. But Google hasn't taken my feedback to stop pressuring me to update my reviews.

Google
I didn't have a 5 star experience mostly due to the indifferent, poor bar service from the two women who ignored me when I wanted to order. The bearded guy however was very nice and eventually took care of me. They have some pretzel tins and popcorn you can buy at the bar otherwise it is all tap beers and hard seltzer. I prefer the Size 7 and the Sticker Fight.

Emma Wille

Google
Delicious beer, great food trucks, but WOW there are a lot of screaming children sprinting around under foot almost every time we’re there. I’m all for a family friendly brewery, don’t get me wrong, but it can get pretty deafening and challenging to get around without spilling a full beer.

Sarah Doyel Stadtherr

Google
We went to Steel Toe for the first time today. We enjoyed the best of Minneapolis summer entertainment. They have a nice outdoor area with a food truck for your tummy. We played a trivia game and saw others playing cribbage. It was quiet and lots of actual chatting and interacting that doesn't happen when music or TV is overbearing.

Andy Kozicki

Google
We've been all over the NE Minneapolis taproom circuit and we just keep coming back to Steel Toe. Their beer is top notch, the staff are hilarious and the crowd always seems to put off a super friendly vibe. I can't recommend this place enough!

M&M P.

Google
Good selection of beers for those who enjoy IPA style and, like us, enjoy less “hoppy” choices. The inside has 2 areas a front smaller area and a back area. Plus an outdoor patio area that is pretty large and pups can be there. Friendly staff good beer-we left happy and will return!

Joseph McGie

Google
This was a nice place but the outdoor area was really small, indoors was a bit larger space. I liked a couple of beers there and the beer tenders were good but didn't tell a lot about the Brewery and their beers which is part of the fun of going to different places.

Jackie B.

Yelp
I had never heard of Steel Toe until some friends invited me and I will definitely be returning. There's plenty of space inside to just enjoy a beer or even play a board or card games with friends. The beer was good and the prices were great compared to some other breweries in the cities.

Shamir W.

Yelp
Stopped by here with a friend for a couple drinks. Hadn't been here yet. Located in the industrial area of SLP, there was parking in the lot and it was already pretty busy at 5 PM on a Friday. We sat at the bar. Its a clean and lively place with a jovial atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and helpful in recommending beers based on your tastes and preferences. You could tell they get a bunch of regulars and they had a really good amount of people that stopped by to pick up and restock. Started off with the Czech Pils. Had their sour (Sissel) next. Wanted to try their EBS (Extra Bitter Special). It was yummy so got that to end our evening at Steel Tow Brewing. All the beers were great. Very tasty. The ESB was so good that I had to get some to go for home. Like other breweries in town, there isn't a kitchen and you can't really get any food other than some bar snacks. They did have a food truck outside that you could pick up stuff from and bring it in if you so desire. We had a fun time with the delicious beers and will be back to try some of the others

Steve G.

Yelp
This place was great! The people working there were all super nice. I had a couple beers and they were delicious. It has a nice combination of open, spacious seating inside and a lovely outdoor patio. There was a fantastic Momo food truck outside that I was told is often there. I brought home some crowlers and both were excellent too. One of the better breweries I've visited in the Plymouth area.

Travis H.

Yelp
Didn't even know this was a brewery until going to an event in the area. We only had 1 beer due to them not having food and us being hungry. Bartender was very nice and told us about all the beers. Parking lot is big and it looks like they have a nice patio in the summer. Far drive from my house and I wish they had better food options. Good brewery.

Josh D.

Yelp
There are a TON of breweries out there. Living in St. Louis Park for a number of years, this became a staple for me on Thursday/Friday Happy Hour. Even with the amount of brewery/beer options - I would call Steel Toes Size 7 IPA my favorite. I'm so glad that they sell it in liquor stores. The brewery is pretty nice too despite being tucked fairly out of site in an industrial park area. It's worth hunting for - especially if you line it up with a good food truck night! (I think they have a different truck pretty much every night)

Brad L.

Yelp
This is a very cool brewery to check out. We stopped in here for a beer and tried their flagship which was Size 7, an IPA. It was a good tasting beer, however I wish they also offered more of a hazy IPA as well. I also tried some samples of the 2 sour, the Sissel and Autumn Rays. I liked the Autumn Rays (Mango Passion Fruit) flavor much more than the Sissel (Raspberry). There was a lot of parking for the venue size. The venue looks small when you first walk in as you see a bar to the right that you order and some bar spots and tables to the left. We found another large room in the back that gave us a lot of room. We came during the winter and this would be a great place in the summer with all the garage doors open.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Steel Toe has been around for a while for a simple reason. Good beer. Nothing too crazy. A smattering of styles, mostly well done. (I am not crazy about their version of a sour, but that is my only complaint. Their Hefeweizen is perfect in a hot summer evening. I also appreciate the large patio they have built with many umbrellas and overhangs so you can enjoy the outdoors without burning. Great place for a beer.

Lys L.

Yelp
Multiple choices for beer, especially IPAs. Great front bar, but it is so small that you'll most likely be sitting in the back. The back room is not as warm and inviting as the front, but it does have easier access to the food trucks.

Amy P.

Yelp
I visited Steel Toe with my aunt for drinks and ended up ordering the Sissel, a raspberry sour ale. I'm not a fan of beer so I was nervous to try anything but a raspberry drink sounded good. And wow, yeah it was good. Like I said, I'm not a fan of beer but this sour ale was really good and refreshing. Their outdoor area was perfect for sitting at in the summer and there was even a food truck the evening I was there. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Carly R.

Yelp
It's been the perfect kind of secret neighborhood jaunt. A little worried what the new apartments/condos will do to the vibe. Great spot for dogs and kids too because there's good outdoor and indoor space.

Scott S.

Yelp
Favorite beer in the cities is here at steel toe brewing. They have a strong menu of several IPAs, and my personal favorite is their double IPA sticker fight. It's citrusy and not too bitter. A truly delicious beer. Many other great options, with a great selection of rotating seasonal beers. I wish they had some of them all year round they are so good. They have a nice patio in the summer and they've recently remodeled some of their indoor spaces to make it bigger and nicer. Great staff too, always friendly and welcoming!

Leah S.

Yelp
If you haven't noticed, my brewery reviews always discuss how kid friendly the place is. Gasp, yes I take my kids to breweries...don't worry they are always gone by 5pm as the not ruin the fun vibe. Now onto the review: Great beer IPAs all the way, size 7 is great!! Relaxed environment for kids to come with Friendly service Nice outside space (please note though this outside space bakes in the summer) if you like hot weather and a cold beer this space is wonderful

Maddy L.

Yelp
Had a great time at Steel Toe! The beer was great and there was a lot of seating options. They have a good list of beer - the pilsner was great. I recommend stopping by! Looks like they have a party room too.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Great space and very friendly staff! I often struggle to pick a beer to order at a new brewery, and the bartender gave me some good suggestions. Steel Toe often has food trucks outside, and we stopped by on a night Jamo's New Zealand pies was out front. SO DELICIOUS. A perfect pairing with our beers!

Janae J.

Yelp
Beer flights and an awesome line-up of food trucks!!! During fall it was nice sitting outside after work and I loved trying out the different types of beer. It's tucked away like a little neighborhood gem!!

Trina V.

Yelp
Tucked behind some warehouses, Steel Toe is in an unassuming place but has plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating (covered and uncovered) to hang out in. The staff are super friendly, and there's a good selection of beers, and the only sour, the Sissel ( a raspberry flavored sour) was pretty good. There's also a calendar of food trucks on their website, and I also love it because it's never too busy for us to find a seat (but we also have never gone on a trivia night). The patio is also dog-friendly!

Ben W.

Yelp
does not fill growlers : ( why? how come? any good reason? i don't know. wouldn't tell me.

William L.

Yelp
Not exactly in a prime location but definitely worth seeking out. They are in an industrial park just off Belt Line Blvd. in St. Louis Park. The Cedar Lake bike trail goes right by it, very convenient! They are definitely bike friendly with huge racks right in front. The staff is great and will give you advice and samples, much appreciated. We tried their flagship size 7 IPA and special IPA Hoptready. Both really good! They offer a wide selection of other beers so not everything is hoppy. There are three main areas - bar area with high tops, main taproom with tables and a outside patio with a roof. The patio is pretty rustic with wood barrel and some other tables. The patio is the only place dogs are allowed, not in the main taproom area. The have a complete food truck schedule with a different truck there almost every day of the week. Definitely recommend a visit and get some ideas on what to try from the great staff.

Clay B.

Yelp
I've enjoyed Steel Toe ales since I found Size7 and Dissent in the cooler at Ace Spirits in Hopkins a goodly number of years ago. I was pleased when they opened up an onsite brewpub. I stop in most anytime I'm in the area. When they're open of course. (Is there some law that says a brewpub can't open 'til 3 pm on weekdays?) They have many of their fresh ales on tap, in bombers, or growlers. Nice patio outside, often a food truck is in attendance as well. This is not a sports bar -- instead it is a place for sociability. The only noise is that of people talking with one another.

Ben O.

Yelp
They've a uniquely good selection of high ABV beers. I'm a fan of their barleywines. Solid IPAs too. They've converted a good part of their parking lot into an outdoor drinking space, so there should be plenty of room this summer for outdoor beers.

Nawang M.

Yelp
Love this local microbrewery at the intersection of highway 7 and 100. Their Size 7 IPA and the Provider Golden Ale are probably their oldest and most popular. Staff are knowledgeable and chill. A small "free" sample usually isn't enough to get a good feel for beers in general IMO so if you're uncertain, ask for a half pour. Their Douglas Cascadian Dark Ale and Dissent Dark Ales are my favorites here. I do like their Dunkel Lager and the Sticker Fight DIPA. The Provider is amazing on a hot day. There's no bad choices here. A local SLP/Hopkins crowd for the most part. The bar area is fairly busy most times so you might have to go to the main hall area. There's an additional covered outdoor patio. If you're bringing your dog, that's the only area you can have them.

John O.

Yelp
Dark and clandestine How a brewery should be Can't wait to come back This place was pretty, pretty cool. It was kind of like am I at an art gallery opening or a brewery? Hipster element was low, yuppy element was high. Change of pace from the usual, anyways. Little tricky to find being from the east Metro and not going to the west Metro very often. As is typical, the brewery is in an industrial area which is off the beaten path. Had to stop and look at the directions on my cell phone a couple times - no GPS for the Hammer. Felt like I was in a Brett Easton Ellis novel. Trendy was my impression and packed. Guess they have expanded greatly since first opening, but still feels kind of on the small side - maybe that is due in large part to what seemed to be the overwhelming demand. The parking lot was jammed at 8PM on a Friday, and it was close to butt to nuts inside. Made a quick friend who was previously a stranger right upon walking in who bought me a beer. Can't go less than four when that happens. It would be a four anyways, I think. Only had two beers - the Dissent and the Barrel Aged Dissent. Treat yourself and go with the Barrel Aged - delicious. So much tastier than the brewery that I was at previously. Looking forward to coming back at an off hour and sampling some of their other stuff.

Yelp
Checked this place out a few weeks ago on a rainy Saturday morning. We arrived right when they opened at noon. The husband thought it was a tad odd that we were drinking at noon but, hey, it's 5:00 somewhere, right? Well, if you think it is odd to show up thirsty to a brewery at noon, fear not. That place was pretty darn full by 12:30. Great minds think alike. They have a covered patio outside but it was raining so we will have to check that out next time. The inside is pretty bare bones but still a great place to chill and pass the time. I had the Sissel and really enjoyed it. The husband had another one (I fail to remember the name) and really enjoyed his as well. He also grabbed a growler to go and he is picky guy so that says a lot. I hear they have food trucks at certain times. It is a very simple (in a good way) place to grab a new beer and relax. I encourage you to check them out!

Marcos R.

Yelp
I have been to Steel Toe probably about as much as any craft brewer in Minneapolis / St. Paul. It might have something to do with the fact that they are located super close to a Trader Joe's, but their tasty beer has a great deal to do with it too. Their Size 7 IPA is a crowd favorite and I whole heatedly agree, but if you have an opportunity; I recommend seeing what else is available as well. Crowlers and 750ml bottles are available to-go, so if you show up with a couple of their large bottles to your social distanced beer samplings; you will be certain to get the nod of approval among your family and friends.

Lois Marie L.

Yelp
my friends booked the group rooms for my birthday celebration last night and it was a super setting .. very easy.. brought in cake, chips and pizza, of course the beer was excellent. People could drop by for a quick greeting or spend the entire evening . we closed the place down at 10:00 . it was perfect for a group of 30 to 40 folks

Rachael M.

Yelp
We had a great time on a Friday evening enjoying the beer here! Every beer I tried I enjoy. My favorite was the Hoptread #4. The over environment of this brewery is awesome but, even better are the 3 gentleman behind the bar. They were friendly, funny, knowledgeable, and are definitely the reason we plan to keep returning! Thanks for a wonderful evening of beer and laughter!

Lisa P.

Yelp
I recently was planning to cohost an engagement party with about 50 people and Steel Toe came up as a potential option. Upon reaching out to Steel Toe, they were more than accommodating and said we could reserve about 1/2 of the back room on a Saturday afternoon from 4-7pm. When we arrived a little before 4pm, they had reserved signs on the tables and we quickly set everything up. We brought in a few decorations, and it was so nice to be able to bring in some snacks and desserts for the group. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating! They continuously came by to pick up any empty glasses and keep the area clean. As for the beer, my favorite was the Provider Golden Ale. Many of the guests had not been to Steel Toe before, and everyone couldn't top talking about how good the beer was! I heard a lot of compliments on the Size 7, Dissent, and Chux. There is plenty of parking and a nice patio (which usually has a food truck). My only complaint is that there isn't self serve water - you have to go to the bar to get it.

Molly M.

Yelp
Whoops! We came here on a Tuesday evening! Trivia mania this evening! The place was packed (standing room only)! Our bar keep was so busy pouring taps that we didn't want to bother her with trying sample or discussing taps, so we tried the ale. Since we were two doors down from the REM5 VR Lab (our destination), we didn't stay for another brew. We will have to try Steel Toe some other evening (not a Tuesday)

Dani R.

Yelp
First things first: delicious beer! They have a nice system in place to keep people safe during the pandemic. (Not as safe as staying home!) Dog-friendly patio. To-go options. A food truck was there. It's very clean! Other patrons were respectful about distancing. I will be back!

Katie U.

Yelp
I live really close to Steel Toe and love popping in here for a beer or two and also bringing friends here to show off my neighborhood brewery. The staff is always super friendly and will recommend beers and even give you a sample before you commit to ordering. Another reason I like this placeis because you can sit at the bar, in the larger taproom, or outside and they each have their own vibe. Steel Toe also keeps their Facebook updated with their food truck schedules which is really helpful if you're trying to plan for more than just beer. I'm convinced the other people who hang out at Steel Toe are neighborhood locals like me which makes this place so special. I love that it's still under the radar and hasn't gotten super crowded like some of the other breweries in Minneapolis.

Lisa H.

Yelp
We did my daughter's college graduation party here! The venue was perfect, the service was fabulous, and the food truck was great! Could not have asked for a better experience!

Steven D.

Yelp
This place has a proper brewery vibe, it hasn't tried to gentrify, it's basic. The beer is anything but basic. The number 7 ipa is fantastic. So smooth. They have a ton of high octane beers which are all solid. Huge patio overlooking a lovely parking lot. Classic.

John C.

Yelp
The beer is very good, the site is very loud. I've had 4 beers from here and all were excellent, particularly the Dissent stout. The interior is small but stylish, but way too loud for my tastes. Parking is plentiful, but then again, if you're drinking ...

Valerie A.

Yelp
What a nice little brewery in St. Louis park! Very cute outside and yummy food truck! The food truck had a smoked Mac and cheese and it was super good. The beers overall were pretty good I didn't really have one that I was obsessed with but it was fun trying them on our 6 piece flight. If you like hopping my favorite at the end ended up being the size 4. The seating outside was interesting with the barrels that were to high up from the chairs but the tables were comfortable! Overall had a pretty good time with my friends and definitely will be back!

Jason S.

Yelp
The owners are super chill and friendly and welcomed us out of towners on our mini Minny brew tour during Final Four weekend. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and good selection of brews. To top it off, they even gave us a brew to take home!

Shawn S.

Yelp
This non-descript location in an industrial park in St Louis Park (behind the post office) has a bar for tastings and growler sales. You can also buy a flight to try them all. They recently remodeled and it has a nice finish to it vs other microbrews where you feel like you're standing in the fermentation tank. The IPA is one of the best I've had, so I like to get a growler every time I go camping or have folks over. The stouts are also great if you like that style of beer.

Tommy S.

Yelp
- staff is knowledgeable, friendly, attentive - plenty of well crafted beers - beer served with coaster - glassware cleaned in time and temperature controlled unit - no use of star sink / glass rinser = very nice - fair priced beer - plenty of parking for cars and bikes $ - space is dark, cramped, and a bit awkward - bar is small

Kelsey P.

Yelp
This place was stellar! The boy and I have been exploring a lot of breweries lately, because life is hard and beer is wonderful. Steel Toe is DEFINITELY on the top 5 list! I can only think of two other contenders fighting for the #1 spot. Extensive parking, extensive seating, and the beer was so amazing!! I can't even describe the Douglas. All the fun of a dark, high alcohol beer. All the flavor of a hops-heavy ale. Sampler $10. Pints $4-$4.50. Growlers were $11-$13 and they sell them from the taproom during normal liquor sales hours. $5 growler deposit, per the usual.

Surabhi S.

Yelp
We live close by. Steel toe is growing in popularity as it has a very decent beer selection. For people, who like hoppy beers Size 7 is a must. Personally, I like the Provider Ale or the Scotch Wee heavy Ale. This is a picture of the Dunkel Lager.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Great little brewery. Stopped in to have a drink before heading to Surly for dinner and ended up going with a flight to sample their mainstays. As IPAs are my baseline beers I was surprised to find that their IPA was my least favorite of the bunch. The lighter beers, wheats, and stouts were all really good, even the Session IPA which I typically do not care for. The locals definitely know about this place as growler fills were non-stop for the short time I was there. Chelsea was owning the bar and getting everyone filled and billed as fast as possib

Stacey L.

Yelp
Steel Toe just isn't the brewery for me. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but their selections on the day I visited were just too hop-forward for my personal taste. I feel like I'm in the minority of not enjoying IPAs and other hoppy/bitter beers, so if that's your jam, you'll probably want to get your foot in the door with Steel Toe. The vibe of the taproom is pretty minimalist; it's definitely not a hipster joint. Service was great; the bartender was really friendly and made us feel welcome. My union ironworker boyfriend loved it, both for the beer and the workingman vibe, and our IPA-obsessed friend that brought us here is also a big fan. I would like to go back and give the Sissel or Sommer Vice a whirl, but neither of those were on tap during our visit. Maybe next time, Steel Toe!

Tom H.

Yelp
This is hands down and absolutely my favorite taproom in the Twin Cities! So, with that out of the way, you can infer that there may be some prejudice in my review. However, I strive to be as objective as possible, so I hope I'm keeping that subjectivity to a minimum. All of the taproom beertenders and staff here are friendly, knowledgeable, and quick as can be. They were one of the first Twin Cities taprooms, and their quality is on par with their longevity (read that as "you damn well better visit!") . Will you like every beer you try here? Hell no! I love this place, but there are styles of beer I don't really like, and they make one or two here, and I don't care for them. But, if you know you like a certain style of beer, or are adventurous about trying something new, I guarantee you'll like what you have here! It will satisfy your known desire, or create a new seemingly insatiable desire within you. Bottom line, these guys rock! From brewery to taproom staff and everything in between.

John D.

Yelp
We stopped here prior to a Twins game and really enjoyed the laid back setting and very friendly bartender. It was clean, quiet, and a nice spot to visit with friends and enjoy craft beers. Having been to dozens of local breweries, they are easily in the top 10% but their beers are more for the hop heads. I am a strong fan of hops and enjoyed the beers but even the stout was a cool 50 IBU which is pretty firm for a typical stout. Anyhow, worth the stop, friendly staff, great swag, good beers, but they were limited on non-hoppy offerings if that's not your flavor.

Michelle A.

Yelp
First impression not so much. You enter right at bar. Not much decor on walls, and everyone knows you just came in. I ordered the Provider and local at the bar stool says I should order the Sommer Vice. They do give out samples which is nice. We sit in other area to drink our beer. The logo is on a large wall. Ordered a pint of Sommer Vice to share and nice guy gives us almost 2 pints. I bought a camo ball cap to wear at ballgame. Beer is good, taproom kinda lacking in character. I'd return if in area again.

Caitlin C.

Yelp
Easily one of the most underrated breweries in Minneapolis! I stumbled on this place by accident on a run when I lived in St.Louis Park and man am I glad I did. The space is modest, a small entry with 2-3 high tops and a bar. The beer selection isnt vast, but I have yet to try a beer I dont love. Size 7 and Provider are hands down my favorite. During the summer there's a decent outdoor space and every time I've gone there has been a food truck - always an added bonus. The brewery is clean, simple and easy going. My kind of place. It's never super packed so a great spot to bring friends and show some love to this great establishment. Tons of parking and easy to access, make this the next brewery you stop at!

Brittany A.

Yelp
The people of SLP are the clientele that Steel Toe attracts. Not the hipster young people you find at other craft breweries in the cities. The staff were friendly and the beers were good and decently priced ($4-$6 for a pint). As with most breweries with large seating space, it was somewhat no-frills as far as decor goes, which is fine. My only major critique is their outdoor space. Patio season in Minne isn't long, I get that, but they had some banquet tables with folding chairs which is fine, but there just wasn't enough.

Angie S.

Yelp
GREAT beer is served here! I have been a fan of their Provider beer before I even made it to the taproom. It was served in a local bar somewhere and I really enjoyed the flowery, herbal, yet sweet taste. If you blink, you could miss the taproom. It is hidden in a in a strange place with other businesses, off the beaten path in St. Louis Park. It is very quickly off Hwy 100 though. The parking lot and outside patio are huge! We wanted to go inside and watch the football game. The interior is very industrial and metal. There is maybe room for 20 people inside to sit. The patrons and bartender were very welcoming and friendly. Get a fight, buy a growler or some gear and support local businesses!

Lorraine N.

Yelp
This is a very small Brewery and I like the atmosphere--it is very dark with filament yellow lighting---It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon--this is not a roomy brewery where you go and sit down and play games you basically sit and drink and talk. The down side is I did not enjoy any of the beer. The provider is the only one I found drinkable for my taste and it was light and lacked any body in my opinion. The others were very hop forward and the dark one that was supposed to taste like coffee and chocolate was just too bitter.

Emily O.

Yelp
Super fun and relaxed atmosphere. Plus, the beer is very good. We ordered a tasting platter just to get the lay of the land. To my surprise, the Rainmaker was by far my favorite even over the size 7 IPA (a close second), a feat since I loooove dem hops. The provider was light and crisp, it would be perfect for summer. The dissent was multi-dimensional, a little much for me but my husband was in loooove. Very comfortable atmosphere. Some people were playing backgammon or cards. A couple of dads has their 3-year old daughters with them. We ordered tacos from the food truck which was a nice touch. We would go again!

Rick T.

Yelp
A very nice working mans pub with a nice feel to it once you've entered. The beers we had were not to heavy and had a very clean cut taste to them from the hops that they were using and the brewer skills. My pint of Provider was only 4.00 and I was given several free stickers to take home with me today. Cool place to try out with free parking.
