Our visit to the winery on December 29th 2024 presented a mixed experience. On the positive side, the location, design, exceptional live performances, and, of course, the quality of the wine were remarkable. The restaurant and tasting area are situated at an optimal elevation within the winery, which, when combined with the live performances, creates a magical and relaxing atmosphere during the warm summer days in the Yarra Valley. However, a significant drawback was the service. The winery has a peculiar policy whereby patrons are required to retrieve their own glasses of wine from the front counter, rather than being served at their table. This necessitates a considerable walk from the entrance to the outdoor seating area. Additionally, the entrance doors are not equipped with automatic opening mechanisms, which complicates the process of navigating through them while attempting to carry two glasses of wine. This experience of self-service seems to be uniquely applied to the purchase of individual glasses of wine, as patrons ordering a bottle or participating in a wine tasting are attended to directly by staff. I find it perplexing that such a discrepancy in service standards exists for different types of purchases.
