The Best Breweries in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Steeplejack Brewing operates out of a restored 1909 church on NE Broadway, where arched ceilings and stained glass frame one of Portland’s most visually distinct taprooms. It recently netted some gold hardware at the 2025 Best of Craft Beer Awards for Amelia, a grodziskie-style oak-smoked wheat beer that reflects Steeplejack’s occasional foray into less orthodox styles. The focus here otherwise leans classic: English ales, continental lagers, and subtle twists on tradition. The original location also functions as a production brewery, with additional taprooms scattered across the metro area." - Ron Scott

The Best Portland Restaurants for Large Groups | Eater Portland

"When it opened in 2021, Steeplejack took over the former home of a then-111-year-old church, transforming pews into banquettes and using spare wood from the space for lengthy tables. Because of its size, Steeplejack works well for both casual group meetups and established events, with several private room rentals; Steeplejack waives all room fees and minimums for nonprofits. Beer is a given here, of course; as for the food, expect bar snack standbys like nachos, wings, and burgers." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Beautiful interior with a great atmosphere. Can get a tad loud sitting inside but overall a great place to enjoy beers and good food.

What a fantastic setting! This former church turned restaurant, bar, and event space is an entire vibe. Bring your friends and some playing cards and enjoy the atmosphere. The food left a little to be desired (I.e., the wings had great flavor but breaded in such a way that really could have benefited from being fried instead of underbaked, the nachos were also flavorful but would have been better plated so that the toppings could be distributed versus in a bowl).

Such a cool place! The atmosphere here is top notch, I think it's the high ceilings lol. The drinks and food here is great too! The portions are huge, and chicken sandwich was pretty tasty. Definitely recommend!

We had a really fun time here. The venue is beautiful and the lemonade cocktail I had was very fresh. We also really liked the sweet potato fries. We will definitely be back!

So it was great that this was an old church. I believe our waitress could have been more hospitable. Wasn't impressed by the food. Wings were fatty, the asparagus was good.

I had the absolute pleasure of trying these loaded fries and tacos, and they were nothing short of phenomenal! The loaded fries were a flavor explosion—perfectly crispy fries topped with tender pulled meat, fresh herbs, tangy pickled onions, and a creamy drizzle that tied it all together beautifully. The textures were spot-on, with the crunch of the fries complemented by the richness of the toppings. The tacos were just as incredible—vibrant, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The perfectly spiced, slow-cooked filling paired wonderfully with the zesty pickled onions and crunchy pepitas. Each bite was a delightful balance of savory and tangy, with the fresh herbs adding a fragrant touch. Both dishes showcased thoughtful attention to detail and an abundance of bold, complementary flavors. Whether you’re a fries fan or a taco enthusiast, these dishes will leave you thoroughly satisfied. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates gourmet street food done right! I finally went here in person and the food was even better this place can get busy! Maybe check in advance

Steeplejack Broadway did a great job taking care of us for a large coed/family-friendly baby shower. They made great recommendations when it came to the menu and the space and all of our guests commented on how naturally beautiful the atmosphere was. The service team went above and beyond to help make sure we had everything we needed before, during, and after the event. The food came out beautiful and everything was delicious. We honestly couldn’t believe how much food we received and felt like it was a really great value. We highly recommend this place!

We were on vacation and stopped at several local wineries and breweries in WA ams OR. We were touring Portland and researched breweries and Steeplejack Brewing was the closest to where we were. We already knew that it was previously a church. We drove around several times to find a parking spot but we found one We walked inside the Brewery and were in awe of the architecture and stained glass window. The inside is beautiful! We were greeted by Casey! She was very friendly and welcoming. She asked us where we wanted to be seated and we decided to sit at the bar. She handed us our menu's and left. We were looking at menu when Joe came over. *** Not sure if he was having a bad day or if that's his personality, but I had a feeling I wasn't going to like him. I asked if I could have a sample of beer. The look I got from him. He "kindly" gave me the sample of Oregon Gold. I tried it and liked it, so I ordered it. My husband ordered Czech Pilsner. Now it was time to order our food. No clue what hubby ordered. Something along the line of tacos. IDK. I ordered the Crying Tiger Kale Salad. The second ingredient was anchovy. No way I want an anchovy on my kale salad. I told Joe that and he said rudely that the anchovy is in the dressing and not on the salad and that I wouldn't be able to taste the anchovy. I then asked, with a sarcastic smile, to have the dressing on the side please. We received our food. Everything look delicious. Don't know who the chef was but kudos to them!!! Everything was delicious. The homemade caesar dressing was a little spicy and delicious. You should bottle it and sell it. I'm not really sure if Joe checked on us to see how everything was or if he did, I ignored him. I just wanted to finish my food and go. Casey came and gave us our bill. Joe never came back.*** I highly recommend Steeplejack Brewing for their beer and food!! Definitely stop by here! You won't be disappointed!!! ***Attention everyone!!! **** I have two words about my experience with Joe! APRIL FOOL'S! Joe was absolutely amazing!!!! He was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. He was so much fun. We enjoyed talking with him. During our meal I asked his name because I love (obsessed) doing reviews. Joe made a comment and I accepted the challenge!!! He knew I was going to do this review!!! Thank you to Casey and Joe for a great experience! To the chef, the meals were fabulous!!! Hoping to come back one day. (We live in NC.)

Loved the ambience, church conversion is spectacular. Staff were great, beer very good - especially the cask English mild that's actually true to style. Prices are pretty typical for Portland. Food was good. Look forward to returning.
