Great food options and excellent selection of beers. Service is always great, and the outdoor seating is awesome when the weather is nice.

Google
What a vibe! The restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area. I ordered the Buffalo fried chicken sandwich and truffle fries. Both were delicious. Service was exceptional.

Finally got a chance to visit before they close. Got some decent beer going on, decent food. Very expensive though. Worth a shot before they're gone if you've ran out of restaurants around the area.

The food was delicious, cooked well, well seasoned and plated lovely. Our waitress was in training, so we were a part of that. Overall it was enjoyable.

Google
Good for variety of beers, slightly on the costly side though. Food options are good, service is prompt.

A nice sport bar in the MountainView downtown. Very spacious bar with indoor and outdoor seating. The service is very good. They have some nice collection of beers on tap. Thought they keep changing beers, we found some good ones. The food was average and served quickly. The atmosphere is good. They also allow kids which makes it good for families.

I come here often. It's a calmer, quieter vibe than other nearby sports bars. Two recent changes I wanted to bring up that I'm not a fan of. One, the linen napkins were, well, classier than the new paper ones. Also better for keeping alongside while sipping a cocktail. Two, staff used to be pretty blase about which team opened or closed a tab since tips were shared. Now I'm seeing much more tension around it after sharing changed. I get it probably better rewards top performers to not share, but the old version was a better single-restaurant experience for customers.

Google
Convenient and big, beautiful terrace and large menu of beers, you can also get breakfast there…more than just a bar! The service is ok at the beginning but once your meal is there, seem to disappear. They have both inside and terrace seating, you can reserve in advance for your convenience. There’s a parking space on the back.

Yelp
Nothing says summer vibes than ice cold beer and an outdoor patio. Come before 6pm to snag HH special which is $ 2 off starters and select drinks. Starters were on pricy side but portions were generous in my opinion I tried the Fruilly which was a fruit beer with strawberry notes. Lightly sweet and refreshing, especially if traditional beers are too bitter for you. The pretzel was warm and scrumptious and accompanied by a trio of dips that were very tasty. Truffle fries and Mac and cheese rounded the food items.. why not since I was sharing and we made it in time for HH. Both were good but nothing extraordinary, I would certainly order again. My favorite was the pretzel maybe because it goes so well with beer.

Yelp
Keep Steins alive!!! Oh man, when I heard that Steins was revived from closing, I immediately bolted there. They used to have a location in Cupertino that closed, so I'd be very sad if they closed this last one as well. I fell in love with Steins from their Fruli beer, which is essentially just a delicious strawberry beer. I didn't used to drink beer at all until I tried this beer from their flight! Since then, I've opened up my palette to incorporate sours as well, which they usually also have some type of in their menu. They have a happy hour menu where you get $2 off certain drink/food selections on their menu (including Fruli) which is nice. We love sitting on their outside patio on a warm summer's day. They also have space heaters for a cold day too!

Yelp
First time at Stein's Beer Garden in Mountain View and it was a great experience. We came by early afternoon--it was light on patrons, which made for a chill vibe. We chose to sit inside since we were playing some games, and it ended up being the perfect spot to hang out. We'd already eaten lunch, so we just stuck to drinks and a dessert. I ordered the Typhoon (or something like that)--tasty. Refreshing and well-balanced. We also tried the cruller donuts, and they were surprisingly good--light, sweet, and just what we wanted to snack on. Service was perfect--attentive without hovering. The staff made us feel welcome and relaxed. There's tons of outdoor seating too, which we'll definitely check out next time. Overall, a great spot to unwind, sip, and hang out with friends. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
We ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and the tequila shrimp tacos. The shrimp in the tacos were cooked to perfection and the pickled vegetables were delicious. The salsa was amazing! The wrap was a generous amount but unfortunately it had mayonnaise in it and my boyfriend hates mayonnaise. He asked for ranch on the side but somehow there was mayonnaise that was not noted on the menu. On the positive side the buffalo chicken was good and the portion was generous. The fries were delicious. The place is very noisy so it is hard to have conversations.

Yelp
The short ribs were really good and the basil mash was excellent. The fish tacos were good but a little dry overall for us

Yelp
Food Quality: N/A (Corn Nuts Only) Service: **** (Attentive and Helpful) Ambiance: N/A (Busy, Closing Soon) Value: N/A (Expensive Menu, Happy Hour Unknown) I visited Steins Beer Garden knowing it was closing down after 12 years. Despite its impending closure, it was still busy, which speaks to its popularity. The beer selection was impressive, with both standard and rotating taps available. They also have a non alcoholic beer as well as mocktails. The service was excellent; they allowed me to sample several beers before making my choice. I tried the corn nuts, which were new to me and quite tasty. The rest of the menu seemed a bit pricey, but I suspect their happy hour deals offer better value. Definitely worth checking out before it closes at the end of the month!

Yelp
Had a really nice time here yesterday. Their back patio is spacious and beautiful, a great place to spend a summer evening. They have 31 beers on tap with a wide variety, though we ordered the mango cocktail, which was very tasty. We had the special steak sandwich, which was good but not great - there wasn't enough steak in it, but the grilled onions were great and the bread was soft. Fries were tasty. Service was attentive. Definitely somewhere I would come back to!

Yelp
My friend and I wanted to stop by before they close at the end of the month. We've never been so we thought getting dinner and drinks would be good for a Thursday night. We got there at 5:30 which was still within their happy hour time. The space is pretty big with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating along with the bar. Buffalo Chicken Wrap (4/5): This wrap had buffalo fried chicken, pico de gallo, lettuce, ranch in a tomato tortilla. It was served with house salad. I liked that the chicken was fried! The wrap itself was good but I didn't really care for the random side salad. It doesn't come with fries but they'll ask if you want to add it on. I had a pleasant experience here. The staff was kind and attentive. I am glad I got to try it before they close!

Yelp
Stein House is a solid dependable place to get a well-made meal and a good mug of beer. That makes it not just a restaurant, but a community resource. Do I wish prices were a little bit lower? Sure. But after the scare of them almost closing a few months ago, I'm just happy they're still around. Can't miss meal (one of many): PORK SCHNITZEL: breaded pork tenderloin served w/ mushroom & parmesan spaetzle, side of mushroom marsala (and some sauerkraut). Tip: ask for double the amount of mushroom marsala, since the pork tenderloin is so darn big.

Yelp
Folks you need to start coming back here. It is still open and in under new ownership keep the Stein's open and happening in Mt View!! Glad to hear that it is back and running in full swing. Make sure you go by!! This place is classic Mt View, the place where the hipster people of Silicon Valley and the Peninsula hang. I went by and super happy I did!! https://www.paloaltoonline.com/mountain-view/2025/03/26/steins-is-saved-mountain-view-beer-garden-gets-new-owner-in-the-nick-of-time/

Yelp
I've loved coming here over the years and loved the menu, up until a couple weeks ago. There's been whispers of the front of house staff now needing to pool tips (bartenders and servers together), but as well a portion of tips now go to the kitchen staff too! I'm all for being fair, but I like going here and taking care of the certain staff members that know me by name and excel in service. The other week I decided to try something new on the menu, the panzanella salad. They used to make all their bread in house, another reason why I loved the food here so much. (Which is something else that will be changing, I've been told.) When I received my order, it was a sad excuse for a panzanella, comparable to a normal side salad without lettuce. I don't understand why they wouldn't just take the bread that is maybe a day old, rustic cut it and toast it with a little olive oil in the oven. Sure, in the description, it does mention croutons, but not that it would be the main ingredient, it was maybe the 4th or 5th listed. I hope things get turned around and staff doesn't start to leave (as they often do when changes, especially to their income, start to happen).

Yelp
Hard to believe I had not been back to Steins in nearly 2 years. On a rain-soaked Saturday it was a good choice as it has a good selection of beers and it was across the street from a parking structure. A buddy and I were hankering for some beers and after trudging through the rain earlier in the day. We got in a the right time and secured a booth. The plan was to drink for a while before eating. Oh, yeah. We ordered a couple of flights. I had the DF Flight and my buddy had the IF Flight. We complemented it with some fried calamari. Everything was fantastic, I especially like the Erdinger Dunkel (DF) and ordered a pint of it after the Flight. I had Chicken Pesto Sandwich. Sadly, I forgot to snap a picture before I devoured it like I just arrived off of Survivor Island. A tip of the cap to our server Gustavo who made sure we were well attended to. Okay, time for photos....
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Came here for their HH but they only offered $2 off from their starters and drinks menu. The chicken nacho complemented well with the drinks. Although their drink was pretty weak. The pesto chicken sandwich was delicious. The ciabatta bread was soft and fresh.

Yelp
Good patio with heaters for large groups (we went for a corporate happy hour). Three of us shared 2 beer flights and truffle fries and they were all solid. Think the grapefruit beer was my favorite! Not sure if their happy deal is worth it though (only $2 off their house beers/selected items).

Yelp
Came here with a few friends. Drinks were good, but the food was just basic. Some of the things were either to bland or overly salty. My burger was over cooked which made it dry and the bacon was a bit burnt. A bit o er priced too. Service was friendly and attentive and it is a good place to host large groups... but food was just basic.
google avatar

Yelp
When I think of German food often I picture it as bland and uninteresting. I have had the chance to try Stein's a few times now. First off - drinks. As a retired drinker, I got their nonalcoholic Weihenstephaner and it comes in a bottle. Compared to when I had the alcoholic version, the taste is basically the same wheaty flavor. Food wise, I recently got their schnitzel from the Oktoberfest event they hosted along with several vendors. Schnitzel was fried to a perfect amber brown and the sauerkraut and spaetzle were delicious. I got the right amount of sour from the cabbage and the spaetzle was cooked al dente and nice and buttery. At another visit, I had fantastic golden brown fried chicken wings, sliders, and one of the best garlic parmesan fries I've ever had. They care a lot about food here so nondrinkers will absolutely have a great time here. Highly recommend a visit!

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch today at Steins Beer Garden and we really enjoyed it. We had the mac and cheese and it was very tasty and ample. I had a Maui Waui, one of my favorite IPAs. Samantha was our server and she was great, making our visit very enjoyable.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I truly LOVED their outdoor patio area with adorable lights streaming across, fireplaces and heat lamps! Great bar-dinning area inside too. Our server was AMAZING! A young college student with an easy-yet unique name like Kaley or something cute like that. She was INCREDIBLY helpful in suggesting cocktails and the spider dessert! We loved the truffle fries and spicy aioli dipping sauce for the large plate of calamari! I would definitely go back and there's also a great open-well lighted parking lot a semi half block away.

Yelp
Great place for a casual dinner and drinks. I love the outdoor seating and the ambiance. We went here on a Monday evening, and the place was quite busy. We got the ceviche and carne asada fries to eat and G&T and a beer flight to drink. Our drinks and food were served pretty quick.  The fries were really good and pretty large portions, and the ceviche was decent. Service was pretty good; our server was very attentive and kept checking on us frequently.

Yelp
I am really puzzled by the reviews here and the ratings that go with it. "I had a great time!" "This is my go-to place!" And then 4 stars. I sincerely hope some of these folks have bosses who give them glowing reviews and then say "4/5 though". Had a great time here and it was packed. Buddy and I met up for drinks and even though I had dinner, I was tempted by the menu. All the tables looked like they were having a great time as well. Great ambiance for a group or smaller party.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Nice ambiance to go with groups with indoor and outdoor seating. Large tables available. Parking can be hard during busy times. The Rainbow Frisee Salad was so good and made with perfect proportions of everything. Service is typically friendly and helpful!
google avatar

Sonia G.

Yelp
My "go to" place for brunch, drinks, food, outside seating, watching a game, catching up. They have a great beer selection, full stocked bar and food is good. I come here with family, friends, and coworkers all the time. For brunch: my friends share a bottle of champaign, we order breakfast appetizers...I usually get the chiliquillas. They also have healthy kale salad options!
google avatar

Yelp
Went out to Steins with my coworkers tonight. First time stopping by this spot. I didn't take the time to check yelp prior to coming in but while eating here, I opened up to start my review and was actually surprised to see that they didn't have a higher rating. Everything here was great! From the minute we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff. Karina, our waitress, was amazing! She was helpful with the menu and made sure we had refills of our drinks the whole visit. The outdoor patio area was really nice and seems like they are in the middle of making it even nicer with some new renovations. The food was great from the appetizers to my pastrami burger. I left full and satisfied. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Best vegetarian meatloaf I have ever frikin' had! I am an omnivore. I love me some dead cow. The veg meatloaf is special. The rest of the menu does not disappoint either. The patio is shaded and airy. The staff is attentive and friendly. The place almost went out of business recently which was heartbreaking. This is the kind of place you want nearby.

Yelp
Great experience here , the staff were very kind . It's a very big and pretty restaurant. I started with the sea salt fries and their baked pretzels . They were both delicious. I tried their chicken and sirloin steak which came with a side of delicious steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The sirloin stood out the most it was so tender and easy to chew . I'll have dreams of this restaurant .

Yelp
I have loved going to Steins for years but under new ownership it seems to be headed in the wrong direction. They seem to be substituting things that used to be made in house with cheaper premade outside ingredients. Ordering the chicken nachos was a staple of mine but after going there today I was greatly disappointed to find they started using that fake Taco Bell-esque nacho cheese. The Steins burger was also severely lacking, quite a disappointment. The old adage of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" seems to have been lost on the new owners. Apparently they eventually want to turn it into some high end Mexican restaurant and are already experimenting with adding overpriced menu items. In Mountain View where there are already several quality Mexican restaurants this seems like a recipe for failure. All Steins ever needed was a solid direction and focus. The style of food they serve is few and far between on Castro where noodles and boba dominate and they could be a leader if they tried. Embrace your brand. Tentatively giving Steins 3 stars in hopes that they turn it around.

Yelp
We were very disappointed in the level service we received which was terrible. I dine out frequently and cannot recall a time when I have had this type of experience! We waited at least 15-20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us which was unbelievable considering our server was literally 2-3 feet away from us taking drink reorders at other tables! We placed an order for drinks and an appetizer, which we received fairly quickly.... The chicken nachos left a lot to be desired as they were "luke-warm" at best. After finishing our appetizer, we wanted to place an order for an entree and another drink.... Unfortunately we never saw our server again!!! After waiting at least 15 minutes, I walked into the bar and asked the bartender if she could find our server or get our check. The bartender was awesome as she immediately found our check and provided us with our tab. She was apologized for our experience as well. This was a terrible experience/1st impression for us and based on this visit we will not be back. There is more I could add but feel I have said enough at this point.

Yelp
I didn't have high expectations for Steins Beer Garden, but it was better than I thought it would be! We visited on a Friday evening and had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated as a party of 5. The ambiance was casual, with dim lighting and upbeat music. The volume of the music started out normal, but abruptly got louder towards the end of our meal, much to the confusion of all the patrons. Service was generally quick and our server was sweet and attentive. I was excited to see they had two mocktails on the menu and ended up trying both of them. The Strawberry Mint Basil Refresher was great - very refreshing, great flavors. The Black Cherry Sipper, however, was too tart for me. All the food were ordered was decent, including the Truffle Fries, Chicken Strips, Mac & Cheese, Chicken Nachos, and Steins Burger - just standard bar food though, nothing too memorable. Would probably return!

Yelp
I have had the opportunity to come to Stein's a few times in the last decade or so and will have to say that it remains a good place to get some good burgers, appetizers, sausages, and other good bites that go well with beer. They have a vast beer selection at prices that are very reasonable and allow you to try many different types of beer. You can get the beer in glasses or you can get flights which allow you to try even more beers. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the ambiance is terrific. It definitely looks like a place you can bring a date or business associate if you are looking to make a good impression. Their service was friendly, and the waitress was very nice and helpful. She checked in on us enough for us to be satisfied without overdoing it. Food prices are a little on the high side, but the drinks are pretty reasonable, which eventually makes us a place that is worth trying. My only complaint is with the hostess, who really seem like she did not want to be there and it showed in her facial expressions. Other than that, I think this is a great place to have some drinks and food and watch sports or just hang out with your friends.

Bridget P.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to go to and hangout after work! The food is sooo good! I love the PB&J sliders! Was hesitant the very first time but every time I go here it's a MUST get! And I love the trio of sauces you get with the chicken strips! They also have a strawberry beer that is delicious! Also a huge shout out to Nate! He is great!! Very friendly and attentive!

Yelp
Good place to chat. Came here on a Saturday night at 6pm. Plenty of seating around. Even when we left at 8pm, it still wasn't very full. Lots of beer selection to choose from but not much in ways of seltzers/ciders if that's your thing. I got the Buffalo Fried Chicken sandwich. My friend got the PB&J Bacon Sliders (comes with 3). My friend really likes her sliders. I enjoyed my truffle fries. The sandwich was good, but I felt like the chicken portion could have been better. The size of the chicken was pretty okay with the breading, but it felt like it was lacking in terms of the amount of meat that I had with every bite of sandwich. I felt like more meat per bite could have been better. Overall good spot to chill and have dinner. They were playing the football game of the schedule that day, so if you're a sports fan, they have multiple screens to watch it from!
google avatar

Ankita K.

Yelp
Fried chicken sandwich and fries were really nice. I would give it 4/5 and they were served piping hot. Loco moco was average. I would give it 3/5. Overall I would give this place 3.5/5

Yelp
Steins Beer Garden is a solid spot if you're looking for a casual place to grab a drink and a bite--especially if you're bringing your pup along! While the food itself is just okay (nothing mind-blowing, but decent for the price), the outdoor patio is where this place really shines. The Patio - Spacious, shaded, and full of different seating options. It's a great place to relax, especially after a walk around downtown Mountain View. Dog-Friendly - Huge plus for me! It's always nice to have a go-to spot where I can enjoy a drink and snack with my pup by my side. Drinks & Casual Eats - The beer selection is solid, and while the food isn't the best out there, it does the job--especially when paired with the laid-back, friendly atmosphere. Overall, I keep coming back more for the patio and dog-friendly setup than the food itself. That's why I'm really excited about Brindleden, opening in 2025--a membership-based dog park with a safe, well-monitored environment (vaccine & behavior requirements), plus coffee, beer, and food. For now, Steins is a reliable choice when I want to enjoy some outdoor time with my pup.
google avatar

Tracy T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I come in often especially on game days. So if you are looking for a place to watch sports, this is the place. There is also an outdoor space too that is great for nice days! The chicken tenders and calamari are good! The strawBEARY buzz is soooooo good! We dined in recently and our server, Karina gave us great service. She recommended the strawBEARY buzz which is definitely my new favorite. She was friendly and made sure our experience at Stein was a good one! We will be back to visit again!

Yelp
Would not recommend going here for brunch. Food is just okay, nothing special. Loco Moco burger pattie was a brick and way too overly well done. Chicken and waffles was medicore with the waffles tasting sour/ off to me. The bacon was not good at all and tasted way too fatty. Coffee was very bad tasting and not very warm. Service was the only thing that was good here.
google avatar

Dan V.

Yelp
Solid food and drinks but I didn't capture the rest of the table. Got the pastrami burger with fried chicken and grilled veggies. Asked for medium rare and my friend ordered rare but ours came out well done. Oil from veggies kinda drained into my burger bun so it made it a lil more greasy than I'd liked. Me and a few others didn't know we would be charged for subbing the fries with veggies and when the receipt came out it was $4.50 for subbing with veg lol. Would've been nice if the waitress let us know before hand or at least had that info on the menu (maybe I missed it?). We knew changing fries to truffle would incur a fee though.
google avatar

Aden G.

Yelp
Since my party got there at 4pm, finding a table was not a problem. Calamari was pretty good. Not as light and crispy as I like but not bad. Sliders were decent. Fish tacos were best among things we had. Service was average but no complain there. You are dining in rich Mountain View (pun intended), and so be prepared to see 'living wage' surcharge of 5%. If you don't like it, simply subtract from the tip you intended to pay. E.g. 18%-5% and you pay 13%. If you are in good mood, go all out.
google avatar

Ally K.

Yelp
Went around lunch time on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. Probably about half full. It took a little bit for service but that isn't their fault as there were only a few servers at that time. Our food came out pretty quickly but you could tell it was freshly made. I had the Stein Burger and my partner had basil pasta. We both enjoyed our meal.. I honestly have to say that it was the BEST frickin burger I have EVER had. I don't know what it was but that burger was amazing I ordered it for lunch the next day. I don't know who the chef is but I love them.
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour and it was a vibe! Loved the ambiance, drinks were good service was great only thing I didn't like was it was still was a bit pricey for happy hour prices! Other than that loved it. Our server/bartender with the red beard was awesome as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Stein's was super fun! The atmosphere is lit with so many different tvs and music. It's also in one of my favorite parts of Castro St and I love going there. We went and got the fruit flight, a dark beer, and the cider. The cider was super sweet and bubbly, which I liked and the fruit flight was good. I feel like Stein's prices are also super reasonable. The service wasn't great to be frank. Our waitress was pushy, and didn't give us a receipt when we asked and just seemed disinterested in helping us. Overall though, good experience!

Yelp
This is a really lively and cool restaurant with lots of options for food, drink, and seating. I saw a lot of happy groups coming for get-togethers, casual dining, drinks, and snacks. There is a nice bar to sit at as well where you can watch the game. The selection for beer, drinks, and food is thoughtful and delicious. It was very busy when I was there, but the servers were very attentive. A great place to relax and have a good time with family and friends.

Yelp
This is a solid choice if you're in the mood for good food accompanied by many, many beer choices. I'm not really a beer drinker, but I do keep coming back because the food is solid, and I personally love the grapefruit Radler. :) I love their salad, their truffle fries, and most all of their entries are delicious and generously sized.

Yelp
I had one of the worst experiences in a restaurant in my life last night when my family and I went to Steins Beer Garden & Restaurant. It was not crowded, I would consider it to have been about 40% to capacity. The server took our drink orders and made an error with my drink, however it was no big deal to me and I received the correct drink immediately. The issues began after our orders were taken. Some of the items included the short beef ribs, pasta and fish tacos. Our appetizers were brough out in a timely manner. Shortly after the short beef ribs and pasta arrived. Over 20 minutes later, the shrimp tacos and cauliflower tacos had not been served to us. One other family member and myself watched as our other family members ate their meals and some members were so upset they chose not to eat the food that was presented. As I looked around the restaurant I "noticed" that we were the only AA family in the establishment and also they only ones that didn't have all of their food in front of all members at the table. At that moment I felt the discrimination and knew that I most definitely would not be eating anything that they were going to bring out over 45 minutes after we had placed our orders and some of our family members being able to eat while others would not have dinner that night. We all left the establishment with a horrible feeling in our spirits and never thought that we would experience discrimination based on our race in the City of Mountain View. I will never in my life step foot in this establishment and I plan to go on every social media platform that I have to let as many people that I can know. The owner should feel ashamed of himself for practicing racial discrimination in this year. May GOD have mercy on his shameless soul. Psalms 109.

Yelp
Date Written on: 05/04/2023 Restaurant was easy to find central of downtown Mt. View. I had made order for appetizer for fried calamari, and Steins burger. Phone order for in restaurant pick up. No wait line. Steins staff associate came out to bring my order to me in a timely manner with kind customer service. No issues or concerns.

Yelp
Came here to watch the Warriors game 6 at home! Good: - Tons of displays - this place is amazing to watch games at. They have huge screens and small screens so you can see the whole thing from many angles - Great for groups - the food comes out quick during happy hour too - Loved the mac n cheese and added mushrooms to it - really cheesy and tasty - The fried calamari and the chicken nachos were pretty tasty too - I liked how the nachos were like a deconstructed burrito - Great service - they checked in on us a lot Bad: - Food is just more greasy and unhealthy - you aren't coming here to get healthy food - you go to watch a game. - Wasn't a fan of the baked wings - not a lot of portion size and overly salty wings Overall really fun experience here and super glad that I got to come! I'd definitely come back to watch another game.
