"It’s difficult to talk about Stella Barra without thinking about it in the context of its conjoined twin, Summer House Santa Monica. Both cater to the yuppier, Lincoln Park crowd, both give you a California mindset, and the two are connected by an atrium stocked with baked goods (which is worthy of a review on its own). But while Summer House is the high maintenance girl who needs fancy clothes to See and Be Seen, Stella Barra is the cooler, chiller sister. It’s easy, simple, and comfortable, a slip on your Lulu’s and watch the Backstreet boys documentary on Netflix Friday night kind of comfortable. At Stella Barra, you’re here for the pizza, and they’ve got a good thing going with their chewy and crispy crust, aggressive use of gruyere, and decent sized pies. We also appreciate that they’re willing to make halfsies pizzas, which are great for splitting. The rest of the menu is stocked with typical Italian starters and salads worthy of acknowledgment, specifically the plates that involve various combinations of bread and cheese. The decor feels formulaic - exposed bulbs, leather tufted couches, and rod iron chairs under sparkly lights and dark ambience. But formulaic isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Just like the four chord progression in pop songs, its predictability and popularity exists for a reason. You like it, it’s familiar, and it delivers. If you’re eating by yourself, want to smell like pizza, or are generally fascinated by the artistry of pizza design, snag a seat at the pizza bar in the back. You can spar with the pizza dudes as they mesmerize you with their pizza magic - prod, pull, knead, repeat. And you can internally fantasize that they’ll hand you a hunk of prosciutto and a glob of mozzarella, because y’know, you’re pals now, or at least that’s how we feel. Yes, Stella Barra is safe, but it’s reliable and good to have in your back pocket. Just don’t forget to grab a cookie on your way out. A Netflix relationship isn’t complete without it. Food Rundown Italian Chopped Salad It’s a lovely chopped salad, and a good accompaniment for all the carbs. Crispy calamari One of our favorite calamaris in the city, found at both Stella Barra and Summer House. The batter is light, the spicy lemon aioli is tangy, and it’s a great combo. Fresh Burrata It’s a good burrata. Sure, you’re about to have bread covered in cheese. But why not order more bread covered in more cheese. Crispy Brussels Sprouts Oh you thought you were going to go to a Lincoln Park restaurant without charred sprouts? Lolz. Housemade Pork Sausage Pizza Good sausage, good cheese, good sauce, good crust. Shaved Mushroom Pizza Gruyere, melted onion, and truffle. Get at least a half of this one. Prosciutto & Egg Pizza Four cheese pizza with prosciutto and a cracked sunny side egg in the middle. It’s a heavenly combo and unabashedly rich. This is a must order." - Claire Schlafly

Friendly staff and good service. The thin crust pizzas are good. The crust/dough has a lot of flavor built into it in addition to the toppings. The drink menu is unique with a lot of specialty drinks you can only find here. Calamari was bursting with flavors and is delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and dimly lit. We were seated in a comfy couch overlooking the restaurant which was very nice.

A Chicago favorite of mine. Great pizza, salads, and drinks. I’ve always had excellent service here, and the ambience is warm and vibrant. I love that you can see the chefs making the pizza. Highly recommend!

Atmosphere was good for big group dining. Buffet style dining. The service was good. The food was okay, not too much selections though. We've had better.

Great atmosphere with amazing pizza! Part of the LettuceEats rewards program, this pizza spot is one of the best in Chicago! We came here with our family on a Saturday night and had a good experience. We started off with a round of drinks and ordered the prosciutto & burrata antipasti as a starter for the table. This place is also known for letting kids make their own pizzas and since we had two small kids with us (5 & 3), they were able to go up to the kitchen’s counter and make their own pizza! It’s highly suggested that you mention kids wanting to make their own pizzas when you book a reservation, when you arrive and check in for your reservation, and then also again to your server when sitting down at your table. It’s popular so many others are doing this for their kids as well. For dinner, we ended up ordering a few things and then sharing as a table. We ordered the spicy roasted cauliflower, spicy salumi & burrata pizza with normal crust, and then the tavern-style double cheese pizza (which is a very thin crust, almost like a crispy flake crust). There were 4 adults sharing these three things and it was the perfect amount of food. Each pizza produced about 8 slices. The only reason for 4 stars is the service, our waiter was horrible! He was very slow and never checked on us...we were out of water and never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. Actually, he never even checked on us again after we received our food...it wasn’t until he came back to ask if we were ready for our check that we saw him again. Other than that our experience was positive!

Came to this place with some friends after being highly recommended by other friends... The place was cool, felt cozy, nice atmosfere and it wasn't very busy so we got seated right away. The servers are nice and friendly and we had 🍕 pizza and 🥗 salad. Both good and the pizza was crisp as ordered and tasty. We had 🍄 mushroom and margarita pizzas, both good

I came to Stella Barra per a recommendation for some Gluten Free pizza on my trip to California. The mid day service was a little slow but I figured since it was St Patrick's Day, the lunch rush was busy. The gluten free crust was good however the pizza had a little too much sauce and not enough cheese for my liking. I was able to add avocado to it for a little something extra.

For the past 2 years, I have been routinely driving between Ukranian Village and Wrigleyville always passing by a very popular pizza restaurant: Stella Barra. During any given time of day, the restaurant is packed. Recently, we had an opportunity to dine at Stella Barra. Stella Barra does have valet parking but, we choose to park in a local garage. Upon entering the foyer of the restaurant we discovered there are actually 2 restaurants sharing the same entrance: Summer House, a light, bright California style restaurant on the left and Stella Barra on the right. It's a little confusing on your first visit. Heads up, they also share the same bathroom which is located in Summer House, kinda awkward to navigate back and forth. After waiting for over 2 years to dine at the restaurant, our overall impression left us wanting more flavor and menu choices. Though the restaurant has been there several years, the decor is very simplistic. It reminds me of a temporary restaurant that has been set up for a cooking show finale. The menu is limited to pizza, salad and a few appetizer choices. We passed on the appetizers, just couldn't get pass paying $12.95 for pork meatballs and $13.95 for cauliflower humus. And no thanks to brussel sprouts as an appetizer. We ordered one white and one red pizza. Our waiter informed us that there would be a wait for the pizzas to cook. OK, but we didn't really understand why the long wait due to the fact pizza cooks very quickly in a wood burning oven. Our two pizzas did arrive within 15 minutes or less. The margherita pizza was basic and bland, no hearty flavor to the red sauce. The prosciutto and egg had more flavor but, only so-so. We had to flag down our waiter to get a steak knife to cut both pizzas even though they had been "pre-sliced" only not all the way through. For 2 pizzas and 1 glass of wine, which I counted a total of 9 sips, our bill was $45, kinda pricey. We were not impressed.
