Google
Best ice cream in San Diego. A few locations in the area so try them all out. I loved the unique menu; got to try a a few of the flavors. Milk and cookies had a rich milk flavor and was super creamy. The clementine cake and black sesame ones were insane. Complex flavors that went together well. A must try spot.

I was in town for a few days with some friends and got the hankerin' for some ice cream. I had to roll the dice and pick a spot for everyone. Luckily, Stella Jean's place did not disappoint. My wife went for the vanilla and chocolate. Now, on the surface, this may seem like a safe play, but it was a shrewd calculation on her part meant to judge the true quality of Stella's methods and execution. My spouse's approval really made the night saving me from rebuke and ridicule. The trifecta of sweetness was in hear words "very natural" I concur with that and add that the baklava cheesecake was sensational. Be back when we back.

Google
What a popular spot - for such a great reason too - this place is legit! Split single scoop in a vegan waffle cone. Flavors: strawberry oat crumble and mango sticky rice. Both flavors vegan as well. While everything was excellent, the strawberry oat crumble was by far my favorite. Next time I visit, I'll just order that in a cup. No extras needed. Was totally worth the wait. Appreciated the staff's efforts to create a pleasant experience for each person while also managing the large line.

Google
So , my wife and I are in San Diego for a quick weekend. We went out with some friends for dinner and felt like doing ice cream. We went to Anne's which is supposed to be the best ice cream in the US, but the long line turned us away. Read on a few reddit threads that Stella Jean is actually better so went over there. The line was not too long and we were in within 15 mins The Ube Pandesal and the mango and sticky rice were highly recommended so I took the split single with these 2 flavors without even trying them out. Uber Pandesal - 10/10. I've never had anything like this before . It was a new flavor profile for me and my pallet gleefully accepted it. I could taste notes of cake, waffles, toffee, buttery and crunchy. The color was also interesting. Mango with sticky rice - 2/10. Oh what a disappointment. I could only take the mango, and not the sticky rice so this is nothing like the Thai dessert we're used to. Additionally the mango sorbet has far too many ice clunks making the experience really poor. I was surprised to see so many reviews raving about this flavor. Perhaps I just got the short end of the stick.

We love coming here. It’s great. The flavors are great. The seasonal flavors are great. too bad. They don’t have a larger seating area and a restroom. Derrick was very patient, fast, and efficient

Google
Great little place with many possibilities. These flavors had my palate on high alert. We ordered several... Strawberry oat crumble is sweet and tart, made with coconut milk. Baklava cheesecake is sweet cream cheese, crispy phyllo dough bits, pistachios, and it tastes like there's simple syrup in there. Creme fraiche + clementine cake has little nibbles of cake that held their own, didn't get lost in the cream and finished with an orange zest flavor. Best way to describe the Black sesame + toasted coconut is that it's almost like an everything bagel. Double chocolate is rich and creamy, you can't go wrong with this one. Will be back!!

Google
Very good ice cream with excellent service I got the brown butter pecan and milk and cookies on a waffle cone bothe ice cream were very good my wife got the Ube pandesal toffee it's a Filipino ice cream my wife loved it parking is non existent you will need to find street parking definitely worth a visit

Google
Best UBE ice cream ever. Will have to come to San Diego again for just this ice cream spot. They were super quick and you can add sprinkles for free. Which was perfect for my three year old! They helped us right away.
google avatar

Yelp
My personal favorite ice cream in SD! Their Ube and Brown Butter Pecan flavors are SO good. All the flavors are sweet and buttery rich. You can take your ice cream and eat it next door to their sister establishment pop pie co btw! (Since there's no seating inside) The workers are always super friendly and it's a bright and clean store.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
For it being the end of the night, for a line that wrapped around the corner, the workers still had a smile on their face and were super sweet. They asked everyone if it was the first time there and what flavors they'd like to try. The place is small and well lit. Only a few people can be in there at a time. You can grab a pint and head straight to the cashier or stand in line and get a cone or cup. I went with two scoops. One scoop was Ube, which is their most popular flavor, and the other scoop was Burnt Honey and Goat Cheese. The two scoops plus a sugar cone cost about 10 dollars not including tax. They have about 12 flavors and 4 of them are rotating / seasonal. They also have merchandise for sale. Solid place. Google says they have cookies to make ice cream sandwiches. Didn't see any which was a shame and the reason why I came here.

Yelp
Came here for dinner (dessert) with my family. My dad really enjoyed Stella Jean's Ice Cream because of their unique flavor combinations. The very first time we went my dad had a honey rosemary orange zest ice cream and a cold brew ice cream. These weren't heavy, nicely smooth, and delicious flavors. I had the mango sticky rice and campfire s'mores. Anyways, when I came here with my mom and brother. The interior was nice and clean. They had photos of the ice cream with descriptions. The worker was very kind and welcoming. We got a good tasting spoon of whichever flavors we asked of. I did a split scoop cup with my mom. We got the strawberry basque cheesecake and the ube pandesal toffee. The strawberry basque cheesecake was perfectly baked. It wasn't overly sweet or cheesy. The strawberry cake through well. The ube tasted very strong and sweet. This time we had more of the toffee throughout the ice cream which was super tasty. It was better than the time I bought a pint for my dad. I used to not like this flavor because of how light the ube was but they've improved it. I also tasted the double chocolate which was divine. I would get this in a split scoop with the strawberry basque cheesecake next time for sure! My brother is lactose intolerant and thankfully Stella Jeans has a good amount of flavors that are vegan. They also have gluten free flavors and I believe their cones are gluten free as well. He chose the strawberry oat crumble and said the flavor was tasty. Overall, great and unique ice cream and a cute location. We did street parking by Lestat's. After 6pm on the metered streets we luckily didn't need to pay. Prices aren't bad. There's no interior seating, but they have wall tables where you can stand and eat. Or they have outdoor seating-- in an extended area on the street. It can get loud, dusty, etc at times. Recommend this spot! They have a few locations so go check them out.

Yelp
Originally tried a scoop of their Ube ice cream at Pop Pie, located right next door and it was the star of the show. Decided to wait until I personally came back and tried the other flavors before writing a review. After sampling all the flavors, I can say the UBE is the best one there. I was excited to try the Goat cheese & honey flavor when I saw it on the menu, but the goat cheese wasn't strong for my liking. They charge .75 cents for a sugar cone, which I'm not too big on, but the quality of the ice cream is great. Service is good, they will give you as many samples as you'd like. I've been to ice cream places that don't give samples or even limit the amount of samples they give, so that's a plus. It's a small shop, no room to eat inside but there are outside stools. Would recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
It ain't cheap but it's very good. I appreciate that they offer unique flavors like Ube and strawberry Basque cheesecake, whatever that is. You can get ordinary vanilla and chocolate anywhere (although they do offer variations of chocolate). Very friendly service and the line moves fairly quickly. Quality ice cream here.

Yelp
If you love Ube ice cream as much as I do, you've got to check out Stella Jean's Ice Cream in University Heights. My husband and I have been itching to try this place, and we finally made it over to sample their much-talked-about Ube Pandesal and Calamansi Creamsicle. I love that they have Filipino-inspired flavors. We showed up a bit before 5 pm, and the place was pretty empty, so we had all the time in the world to taste as many flavors as we wanted. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I went for a double scoop of Ube Pandesal and Milk + Cookies in a homemade waffle cone, and it was heaven in every bite. My husband got a double scoop too--Ube Pandesal and Calamansi Creamsicle. Every single flavor was rich, decadent, and absolutely to die for. We were so obsessed with the ice cream that we left with three pints. Of course, we grabbed the Ube Pandesal and Calamansi Creamsicle to take home. Can't wait to make another trip back!

Yelp
Came across this ice cream place when I was in the neighborhood. Interesting and unique flavors to choose from, plus different types of cones as well. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful asking questions of what I liked. Plus the samples helped as well. I did think it was on the higher price for a waffle cone and single scoop of ice cream.

Yelp
Love the unique Asian inspired ice cream flavors!! The place is super cute! Limited seating space though. Love how the ice cream is "not too sweet." We got to sample a handful of flavors. - ube + pandesal toffee was my absolutely fave! My mom loved it as well. I found myself wanting more!! - mango sticky rice -- if I closed my eyes, it really does resemble the famous Thai dessert. Very intriguing. - strawberry basque cheesecake -- enjoyed the tiny bits of cheesecake mixed in! - calamansi creamsicle -- basically like a citrus flavor creamsicle. Service was great and helpful! I see what the hype is about. They even sell the pints to enjoy at home! I would definitely recommend this ice cream spot!

Yelp
Overall: variety of homemade ice creams with flavors that will appease everyone from traditional to wild, kind service, and a clean and hip ambiance The employee was super kind and let me try so many flavors. When she found out I was on vacation, she walked me through the history of the place and the menu. She was super kind and knowledgeable. I honestly loved most things I tried and I was super surprised by how much I enjoyed the unique flavors like toasted burnt honey and goat cheese and blood orange peppercorn. It felt more special that a typical ice cream stop and I wish I was local so I could frequent this place.

Yelp
BEST ICE CREAM EVER!!!!! I visited this place on my trip to San Diego. I've gotta say this place tops salt and straw! I got an ube toffee single scoop. It was buttery, smooth, not overly sweet, and just delicious!!! I loved that the employees let us sample the flavors before deciding. I really enjoyed their vegan flavors as well. I only wish I lived here so I could come more often!
google avatar

Huyen N.

Yelp
Serves the best ube + pandesal toffee ice cream! That's coming from someone who's not big on ube. It's dangerously good that my household can finish the pints within no time. The cravings are real, too. Also worth noting is the service. The employees are always welcoming and extremely friendly. So even if the line is long, it's worth it. Just take all of our money, won't cha!

Yelp
Visiting SD and went to Stella Jean's for dessert. We went to the location in Hillcrest. Street parking only. Cute little shop. We were greeted right away. We had a couple samples as well. We ordered single scoops of Milk & Cookies, Strawberry Basque Cheesecake and Ube Pandesal Toffee all in cups. The ice cream is very creamy. I personally had the Ube and it was soooo yummy! Love the toffee bits! They have so many unique flavor combinations and they also sell pints ready to grab and go. I will for sure come back to try more flavors!
google avatar

Jessenia G.

Yelp
Ermagerddd!!!! That ube toffee combination was everything i didn't know I wanted after a filling Thai dinner. I was on a casual after dinner stroll to walk my meal off when I happened upon Stella's with a shmedium sized line that was moving. I sent my partner in and he came back with smores and ube in a cup of the smores had a smokey gray color and was nice but the ube just blew it out the water. THANK YOU!
google avatar

Reina M.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE ! You can never go wrong with a scoop of their ube! Every-time I go in I love trying new samples but always leave with my scoop of ube! They have a variety of flavors from chocolately- fruity!
google avatar

Zaydian A.

Yelp
Did someone say Ube + Pandesal Toffee Ice Cream!? Say no more, I went to Stella's yesterday and it was amazing!! They had so many unique flavors but the Ube stood out the most. They also sell pints which I did get as well. Service was a solid 10/10, and they do let you sample flavors which is much appreciated. Ambiance wise it's a small store, but the shop is in a great location. Be prepared to walk as parking can be tough when busy. Would I go again? Absolutely!
google avatar

Tina D.

Yelp
Cute interior and has a large variety of flavors. They do samples so I was able to try many! I ended up getting a scoop of mango sticky rice, which was just so delicious & reminiscent of the dessert. Employees were also EXTREMELY kind!! I highly recommend!
google avatar

Toni Rose D.

Yelp
Ohmygoodness. This place was delicious. It was everything I wanted ice cream to be. It was recommended that I get a scoop of mango sticky rice and a scoop of ube pandesal. The waffle cone was made in house and all ingredients are locally sourced. I loved this so much that I came back the next day with my colleagues so they can experience this magic.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
I think this is one of the best ice cream spots even though others might disagree. My favorite flavor of all time is the ube pandesal toffee, and the mango sticky rice would be my second choice. Even if you don't think you would be a fan of ube, I do urge you to give it a try bc I was one of those people who never thought i would like ube. Now I get 2 to 3 pints just to leave in the fridge because I crave it all the time
google avatar

Yelp
My new favorite ice cream spot! We literally showed up 5 min before closing on a Friday night and still got excellence service! That won me over right away. We were welcomed, not rushed and provided with an excellent first experience here. I got to sample 2 flavors, and both were amazing! I decided to go with the UBe Pandesal Toffee and omg! it was sooooo goood! the waffle cone was super good too! Not stale, and complimented my ice cream very well. I cannot wait to go back here. I would honestly make a trip here just to have their ice cream and great service once again. I highly recommend this place for someone in the area or even if you aren't if you are in San Diego- come thru ! I have been to many places in SD and this is now my favorite!!
google avatar

Nickolas E.

Yelp
This is my daughter's favorite ice cream shop in all of San Diego. They are constantly rotating their selections. It's a small spot, with outdoor seating. I recommend coming on nights other than Friday and Saturday night cause it can get busy. Try the Smores!! And yes, they have sprinkles upon request. lol.
google avatar

Iggy G.

Yelp
One of the best ice cream shops in San Diego! Their ube pandesal toffee and mango sticky rice are the best I've had. Also gotta get the guava cream cheese ice cream whenever it's in season!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite ice cream shop in San Diego! Their uniquely delicious flavors keeps me coming back to see what they have to offer. The Ube is their most popular, but decided to try the mango sticky rice and it did not disappoint! You can reward your curiosity by asking for samples.
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
As a sweet tooth girly, I cannot say no to ice cream! Visited here a few times with friends and family and their flavors are always so fun and creative. My latest favorite was the earl grey with cake pieces and the calamansi creamsicle. Their waffle cone??? You have to get!!
google avatar

Jaky Y.

Yelp
Stella Jean's has some fantastic and creative flavors. When we went, they had an ube ice cream, a mango sticky rice, and a ton of other tasty and unique options. Service was friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest option, but they are small-batch and high quality.
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
Yum yum yum Completely new inside. Great flavors. Had multiple vegan options. Great patio put back. Dog friendly The mango sticky rice ice cream is .
google avatar

Armani H.

Yelp
Must try ice cream place! Handmade ice cream daily and I highly recommend the ube with toffee and the milk and cookies! Both really good! You can sample the flavors and with a split single you can get two scoops. The staff is fabulous and really welcoming.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
It was good - especial the ube & pandasal toffee but based on personal preference, I still love soft serve more than ice cream. I got a double of the ube (got a bit greedy because I couldn't finish it at all) and it was about $9.50 for the two scoops. All the flavors are pretty unique here and service was nice and friendly. There aren't many seats out there so we went next door and got a coffee to also sit at their table and use their restroom. Definitely gourmet ice cream but not sure if I would go out of my way for this place. Pretty cool and modern looking buildings nearby though so it's a nice walk on a beautiful day.
google avatar

Yelp
I fell in love with Stella Jean's ice cream when I visited Pop Pie Co. last year and ate one of their "PiesCreams", I was obsessed, so when my homegirl hit me up and wanted to get dessert this past summer, this was the first place I thought of. This place is popular, so there was a line, but that's to be expected when a place has an amazing product! It was worth the wait. The staff was very friendly and let my friend and I sample all the flavors. After sampling, I decided to try the Ube + Pandesal Toffee and Guava Cream Cheese in a Waffle Cone. Just as I expected it was amazing! Also, the inside of this location had so many cute Instagrammable mural designs on the wall perfect for taking pics of your ice cream. Stella Jean's gets a 10/10 from me. It's a must-try for anybody in San Diego and the surrounding areas.
google avatar

Arlene G.

Yelp
Stella Jean is a must visit anytime I am home. They are sooooo delicious and worth every penny. The Ube and Pandasal toffee is my favorite with the Mango sticky rice trailing just a step behind it. I've ordered one and then one to take home for later. They've been good at staying cold in a cold bag for the drive home. Cute small little shops. Staff is great, friendly and attentive. Cute little spoons to sample the flavors. But I still stick to these two.
google avatar

R I.

Yelp
Sweet treat, so creamy I got the calamansi creamsicle and it was awesome. Quick service and has nice outdoor seating area, will be back!
google avatar

Margaret D.

Yelp
When I was buying ube pancake mix at Trader Joe's, the cashier advised me to go to Stella Jean's and get their ube ice cream. After a dinner with friends we decided to head over where I got the ube and toffee ice cream and the chocolate. Totally delicious. I ate 2 scoops.Oddly enough I'm usually lactose intolerant and this didn't bother me at all the way a Ben and Jerry's can (don't take my word for it! Maybe it was a one off?). The only thing to remember is they have no bathroom and the stores around them close before they do.
google avatar

Ramya M.

Yelp
I am a big ice cream lover and I have tried most small batch, gourmet, local, artisanal ice cream. But Stella Jean's is the best of the best!!!! I stumbled upon Stella Jean's while I was in the neighborhood for a YEE. So I really had no expectations but the whole experience and ice cream were nothing but amazing!! The store is a little small with no seating and the line was really long but the staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. After much sampling, my family got Madagascar Vanilla, Milk and Cookies, Ube and Pandesal, Peppermint Chocolate Bark. The ice cream was very very creamy, mildly sweet and the flavors were spot on!!! While all the flavors were great, the star was Peppermint Chocolate Bark. We loved it so much we went back to get another scoop of it. Too bad the drive back home is long, else I would have grabbed a pint of every flavor :) I don't want to change a single thing about this gem of an ice cream store!! And please stay local!!
google avatar

Anush G.

Yelp
Stella Jean's has unique flavors and good quality ice cream. I tried a scoop of the burnt honey and goat cheese and it was a perfect balance of the two flavors and not too sweet. The service was standard and the staff was patient when my and my friends were asking for samples. Definitely a must visit spot when you're in the area.
google avatar

Audrey M.

Yelp
As soon as you walk inside it smells amazing. Freshly made waffle cones daily. I tasted a sample of this flavor and I didn't need to taste anything else because it was so delicious. The graham crackers, the marshmallows it was al just perfect. The waffle cone also so delicious and crunchy. It was a rainy day, but regardless I had to have some ice cream and thank goodness I found this place through help. Great customer service too. I had visited Pop Pie next door few years back and the girl at the register told me they're sister stores. That's awesome because pop pie is also bomb. Always a plus when you get treated well. Thank you Stella Jean's Ice Cream.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
My wife and i came here after dinner today and wow!!!! I got the smores and milk and cookies in a waffle cone and it was amazing!!!! My wife got the strawberry oat crumble in a waffle cone and the best part was my wife is gluten free and vegan and she was able to get this ice cream and a waffle cone so she was super excited!! Line wasn't too long and the lady was nice and gave us samples and told us a little history about the ice cream. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
so worth the drive !! 10/10 all the flavors i tried. i will come again. i was left speechless it was so creamy and the flavors were so rich. the ambiance is clean, modern. the service was a bit stern but patient. i was able to try many flavors but i felt a bit rushed even though nobody was there. and when we paid the next customer was treated a lot better and with a different attitude...i get loving regulars but i think people who are here for their first time also deserve a good experience. their sustainability initiatives are seen throughout the store. minimalistic designs no wasteful things, everything is thought out and intentional. the tasting spoons are metal and they have metal collection jars for them. the plates are paper and their cones are wrapped in paper. the only plastic i saw was the spoons and i didn't check but they might be biodegradable! the ube + pandesal toffee was so delicious and creamy. i paired it with the burnt honey + goat cheese and it was like a match made in heaven. there was a party in my mouth. the flavors were so perfect on their own and only complement each other that much more. my friend also enjoyed the ube + pandesal toffee but paired with the matcha pistachio. matcha has a slight coconut flavor from the milk and it was so yummy!

Yelp
Small update :) hands down.... BEST ICE CREAM BY FAR!! First time trying this place with my wife on Wednesday 01/10/2024 around 6pm I think? So let me tell ya in a nut shell. .. Ice Cream: Many unique flavors! As a ube connoisseur, Ube-pandesal had me speechless. Wife loved the mango sticky rice and regretted the size she ordered. Next time she's getting a pint! So far, this spot is our go-to for ice cream and is actually almost similar to gelato imo? But Im not going to compare as our go-to gelato is in La Jolla. Service: ZORA & Bri customer service was very inviting and welcoming. Zora's energetic presence deserves a promotion or a raise honestly. Price: reasonably priced for the area (see photo). Haven't checked the prices for the pints. Highly recommend this spot for your ice cream cravings! If you want something new and so good it has you coming back for more, go to any of their locations and try out a flavor your stomach is craving.
google avatar

Amrcn S.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, a very cool place. They have very limited seating. Variety of options and they are patient enough to give samples. We ordered 4 different types of flavors - ube, mango, smores, and brown butter pecan. All of them were good. Ube was most favorite one!
google avatar

Johnny N.

Yelp
A must-visit!! I was super happy to try the San Diego location after having visited the Costa Mesa one before. It was quite empty on a Saturday afternoon, but that made it a lot quicker. After trying a few flavors, I narrowed it down to the Ube/Pandesal and the Hojicha flavors. They gave just the right amount of ice cream and it was almost the perfect temperature. The taste was great, with very nice toffee pieces and a pretty light sweetness for folks who aren't too big a fan of sweet desserts. There were some counters inside to enjoy your ice cream, and a good amount of outdoor seating too! I love how it's also in a walkable area !! The service was super friendly, and I felt encouraged to try a whole lot of flavors and come to a great decision. Let's continue to elevate AAPI-owned businesses like these in 2024.

Yelp
We were craving a little ice cream after dinner. This is located right next door to the Pot Pie Co. it is quite small inside but there are some places to sit down outside. The service was okay, not rude but also not like friendly sorry that is why there are 4 stars and not 5. Maybe the workers get a tad irritated when letting customers try flavors, not sure. I only tried two then ordered. There was a group in front of use that seem to be trying the whole menu lol. I like that they let you try the flavors before purchasing but I ended up ordering the Brown Butter Pecan on a waffle cone. I loved this flavor and it went well with the waffle cone. The waffle cone was delightful and probably one of the best I have had. If you are in the mood for some ice cream and want flavors that are better than just the ordinary, I say come here.
google avatar

Mikey F.

Yelp
Amazing flavor combinations. The ladies behind the counter were all so friendly and let us try pretty much every flavor. Ended up going with Thai Tea Cookie Crumble, Strawberry, and Guava Cream Cheese. All flavors were truly amazing. Definitely a must try if you're in the area.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Cutest little ice cream shop with unique and yummy flavors!! The decor is adorable and the staff was super welcoming and polite. Also, the homemade waffle cones make the shop smell absolutely amazing!! I ordered a single split scoop of mango sticky rice and Thai tea Cookie Monster on a waffle cone. They had a great selection of flavors with a lot of variety. This was on the pricier side, $5.75 for a split scoop + $2.75 for a waffle cone. With tax and tip I paid around $10, which is more than what I'm used to paying when I get ice cream. However, the waffle cone is quite big and they give you a generous amount of ice cream. I will definitely be back to try other flavors!
google avatar

Yelp
Brought my kiddos here for the first time. And we will definitely be coming back. The flavors were delicious. The Ube ice cream tasted like the real thing. The staff were super friendly and greeted us right when we walked in the door. It's dog friendly and there is seating outside if you want to sit and enjoy your ice cream treat.

Yelp
Really delicious and fun flavors! The mango sticky rice is amazing! Tastes just like the real thing, I went there 2 days in a row. It's a cute little store and the workers were helpful in letting me try all the flavors before picking. It's a fun vibe and very inviting to go into the store. My only gripe is that my cone was stale. I know they make them fresh, I probably just got a bad one. It made me glad I got the cone on the side.

Yelp
If you want something different this is the place. Small and cute. The ice cream is very unique, they had a bunch of different flavors. I tried the strawberry crumble (it's vegan) I was actually very impressed. I ended up going with the brown butter pecan. It was yummy and very buttery, not as sweet as I would like but it was guilt free. My husband went with the milk and cookies and loved it! He said the waffle cone was very tasty too. Staff was super kind

Yelp
Unique ice cream flavors ! They pair two flavors with one and they make me believe that they have some form of Asian or Filipino inspired flavors. I.e ube + panel. Generous heaping scoops of that rich and creamy ice cream. Tends to run on the sweeter side, so beware. Or share with someone instead of getting individual flavors. It does melt fast and can be messy. Love the whole set up of the shop, very cute aesthetics.

Yelp
Delicious flavors with a lot of Asian inspired ones as well. It was so hard to choose. Ended going for the Thai Tea and Guava Cream Cheese in a waffle cone. Both flavors were delicious and would eat again and again. Cute small shop with only a small outdoor stool seating for a few people. More of a take and go kind of shop.

Yelp
For quality ice cream with fun flavors in San Diego, Stella Jean's beats Salt & Straw for me. Wait in the line - it's worth it! The quality of the ice cream here is creamier and just better tasting. I like the flavor offerings better as well. There is a nice mix of multi-cultural inspired flavors, like Ube or Thai tea. We had the milk and cookies and the Thai tea Cookie Monster. I also got a scoop of the mango enchilado, with their homemade chamoy. Everything was so so so good.

Yelp
I visited Stella Jean's twice now. The first time was at the one in Point Loma, and tried a few different flavors before I settled on the Ube Pandesal Toffee ice cream. I'm not the biggest fan of ube as it can be over-sweetened with added sweeteners/sugar, but it seems that this place has given it just the right amount of sweetness, and it doesn't give off that artificial (after)taste. The added toffee and pandesal comes through to give it a nice blend of extra goodness with every bite. The second time was at the University Heights. I tried the S,mores flavor, which I didn't try the first time, basically because I thought that s'mores tasted the same everywhere. I was completely wrong. The color of the s'mores ice cream probably isn't something you'd expect to see as it looks more grayish than anything else. But the flavors, along with the crunch of the "graham cracker," the bits of chocolate, and what seems like baby mallows, makes for a delightful party in your mouth. I definitely wanted a scoop of that, but I also didn't want to leave without getting the ube again. Luckily, they had pre-packed pints of ube, so I got a pint of ube to eat sometime during the week, and got a scoop of the s'mores to eat that day. My dilemma was that I wanted to enjoy my ice cream at home, so I asked the person there, Veronica, if I could have it in a cup (for travel) AND a cone (to eat like a kid/Biden). Veronica did me one better and offered to put it in a single-scoop container and wrap the cone for me. I was pleasantly surprised they did such a thing, and of course I said yes. I then asked if she could wrap up another cone (for my ube at a later time.) I know every place gives you the chance of tipping, but I don't really tip all the time when the person/cashier, however, Veronica, in her positive energy and her offering the container and wrapping the cone was going the extra step to making me happy was the deciding factors in actually tipping, because she deserved it. Although she didn't disclose there was an added fee for the single-scoop container (.25), the convenience was worth it. It took me about 20 minutes to get home, and the ice creams made it home intact (unmelted) and I got to enjoy it in the comfort of my home. This is definitely the place for unique flavors and I recommend you try a sample before you just choose because some of them are just too unique and might not work for some people's flavor palette.

Yelp
This place is definitely a must go place for a unique experience of flavors. I love how the Filipino culture is infused in today's Yelp, foodies, and mainstream culture. When entering, we didn't experience any lines which was good. The staff were very generous in allowing samples. I had the Ube pandesal. My son had the chocolate ice cream and my husband had a strawberry one. I can remember the names but I did remember mine! The place is very simply decorated with a few items for sale that is unique to this ice cream shop. So thankful for Yelp helping me find this gem. I will definitely be coming back when I'm in San Diego again!
