NYC Restaurant Cookbooks to Read During Coronavirus Shutdown | Eater NY

"Ignacio Mattos’s cookbook served as a cheat sheet that helped me understand precisely what I’m tasting at Estela: his avant-garde ricotta dumplings trace their inspiration to Judy Rodgers, the beef tartare gets its savoriness from fish sauce, the fried black rice gains extra depth from dried seafood and green garlic juice, and an odd childhood inspiration (slathering taquitos with Cheez Whiz) led him to pair steak with taleggio — all of which explains why the restaurant feels as cool and inventive as it is." - Eater Staff

Stella is a beautiful space with an inviting atmosphere. The best seats in the house?Definitely the chef's counter-an incredible spot to watch the magic happen. The food was spot on, perfectly executed, and full of flavor. And whatever you do, don't forget to check out the dessert menu-totally worth it! A fantastic addition to Kenwood.

We had a great dinner at Stella, our server Jacob was excellent. The Mortadella meatballs and Yellow Fin tuna crudo were really good. The Lumache pasta was very creative and delicious as were the cacio e pepe and bolognese. Ricotta Zeppole hit the spot for dessert. Still 2 more wonderful looking desserts we will be back to try! What a great edition to Kenwood and Sonoma County!

We were so excited for the opening of Stella and it did NOT disappoint. From walking up (without a reservation) the staff welcoming and warm-- you could see their excitement to welcome everyone into their new home. The food menu is well curated, great variety, flavors, flare, yet homey and well executed. We had the tagliatelle and it was one of the most delicious pasta dishes I've ever had. Service, food, ambiance, all a perfect combination if you're looking for an authentic, local dinner spot in Sonoma Valley.

We work at a winery down the road and are so happy and excited for Stella to be our neighbor!! This restaurant is an absolute gem! Our dinner was over the top and our waiter Christian provided exceptional top-notch service. Christian was attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Ari has done it again and the food was outstanding. Every dish featured authentic Italian flavors. Get the chicken liver ragu pasta - the best thing we had! The ambiance was cozy yet elegant, making for the perfect dining experience. If you’re looking for incredible Italian cuisine with impeccable service, this is the place to go.

Outdoor sitting was great. We loved lamb rib but I wasn't sure about the wagyu beef, or they just served regular beef? Onsite parking is limited so we had to park on the side street (free parking). One detail thing worth mentioning is that they wiped the table clean after removing the finished plates, a couple of times during the meal. They added a birthday dessert at the end for the birthday day boy. Very nice.

We came to Stella because we’re longtime fans of Glen Ellen Star, and when we heard they had just opened this new spot—with a mozzarella bar, no less—we were sold. A mozzarella bar?! Yes, please! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming. Our server, Nick, was a total gem—so positive, always smiling, and clearly passionate about the food. He made our night even more enjoyable. We kicked things off with the basil, tomato, and mozzarella, which was as fresh and flavorful as you'd hope—simple ingredients, perfectly done. The halibut ceviche was light and zesty, and the strawberry tuna absolutely blew us away with its bold, creative flavors. Each dish brought something special to the table. For dessert, we had the Baked Gelaska, and wow—the marshmallow sorbet was out of this world! Such a fun and unexpected treat to end the meal. We had an amazing experience from start to finish and can't wait to come back. Stella is a delicious new gem in town, and we’re here for it!

We really enjoyed our experience at Stella. Service was personable. Food was plentiful and flavorful. Ambiance was comfortable. We will definitely redo especially to try the pasta!

Google
It was one of the better Italian places especially in Kenwood on a Sunday nite was crowded..raining..people still coming it is newly opened so they are booked for the most part..we sat at the bar where kitchen is facing us..you can see how the sous chef and chef working in sync with each other and kitchen crew. The food was done right, tasty, different unique, one page menu where it can concentrate on the dishes iffered..service was good, good came out quickly..the only dish was this pasta pepper dish which needed some seasoning just but chewy hard like..just need some flavor to it would really make the whole meal to a good ending..overall I would go back to try other dishes..we had a total, did and one dessert and glass of wine about 175.00 for 3 ppl. Owner and chef were very nice ..it is a simple place with hoid food that is why they have great reviews and booked up. Usually I am critical of most places I try I never go back just me..since the place is small and compact if some patrons talk loud it is hardly to hear within your table..since tables inside is close to each othet..o wish some people do not act like they are the only people there talking loud... parking can be a bit hard but it is fine ..nice touch if it is your birthday..thru give you a scoop of ice cream , candle and cookie wafer

Yelp
I really love their sister restaurant (Glen Ellen Star) so we were very excited to try Stella. We walked in without a reservation and was seated in their outdoor covered area. We ordered the clams, the lumache, rack of lamb ribs and the pork Milanese. Everything was delicious! The lumache had delicious shiso marinated tomatoes topped with robiola espuma, the foamy cheese paired so well! Their pasta dishes are always changing with the seasons and I cannot wait to come back to try more. The baked gelaska dessert was a very popular choice. It is a fun dessert to share, but it was a little too sweet with too much marshmallow fluff for me.

Yelp
Another fabulous start to our night at Stella! Every visit we are greeted with warm charm and genuine Sonoma County hospitality. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home, with a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed restful dining moments with friends, savoring every sip and bite. The service was excellent--attentive yet unobtrusive, making the evening even more special. The food was nothing short of exquisite. The pasta was absolutely fabulous--fresh, al dente, and bursting with flavor. The pork chop was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of savory goodness, showcasing the quality of fresh ingredients used. Stella truly captures the essence of Sonoma County's love for good food and good company. Can't wait to return for another memorable night of delicious bites and warm ambiance! Until next time.

Yelp
Our friends' anniversary dinner started with the a nice surprise: we walked in thinking we'd be freezing on some sidewalk patio in November, but no, they'd enclosed the whole area. It was cozy with jackets off. There was a welcome table tent congratulating our friends. The server showed up two minutes after we sat down with complimentary sparkling wine. Food-wise, we did family-style. The rib-lets (little baby back ribs with a coat of herbs.) disappeared too fast.. The meatballs were ridiculous -- huge, marinara.. And the risotto... mushroom and truffle oil, creamy but not gooey. We also got the burrata. (Unfortunately truffles are like cilantro to me, tastes like soap but the others praised it.) Portions are small, prices felt fair for the quality, and nobody rushed us.. By the time we left the next experience was imagining our return for the Rib Eye... Four stars - post note: that return will be to sit at the counter to watch the chef's directly do their thing.

Yelp
Always a pleasure to grab a meal at Stella. Staff is always attentive and the food never disappoints. Always leaving here in a food coma! One of our top favorite restaurants!

Yelp
Stella accommodated my party of 12 for my best friend's bachelorette. Food, service, and ambiance were perfect. Each dish was excellent, particularly the execution of the pasta. Food: Lunch was chosen from a preset menu and consisted of an appetizer, various entrees (due to some guests' allergies), and dessert. Appetizer: Caesar salad with anchovy dressing, garlic croutons, and 24 month aged Parmesan Entrees: Bavette (steak), whole grilled dourade (fish) with chili and caper butter sauce, wood, grilled golden beets, pasta, and garlic rosemary fries Dessert: Tiramisu They even made menu cards for each guest to commemorate this event. I can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was phenomenal: Caesar salad, burrata with walnuts, the rib eye & the pork chop Milanese. The rib eye was one of the best we have ever had at a restaurant. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I went in the afternoon on a Friday to have their lunch special, which was absolutely delicious. The place is totally first class and so was the service. I would highly recommend

Yelp
Amazing spot! So special, everything on the menu looked amazing. Ambiance and service was great as well. Try the Baked Gelaska!!!!

Yelp
Had a phenomenal Thanksgiving meal here while on holiday in Napa/Sonoma -- delicious classics, an inventive dessert (pumpkin gingerbread icebox cake), excellent wine, and warm service. We hope to come back for their regular service.

Yelp
We so enjoyed our experience at Stella! We chose indoor seating and loved the modern decor and view of the open kitchen. The service was incredible and we enjoyed everything our server recommended! Cucumber and peach salad: the savory and salty combination worked. The produce was so so fresh! Yellowfin Crudo: the fish was well prepared and topped with a smoky strawberry and crispy rice cracker Lamb Ribs: tender and savory! Really liked the rub. Cacio e pepe: classic and delicious Baked Gelaska: a highlight of the meal. Gelato + sorbet + shortbread + torched marshmallow = heaven.

Yelp
My husband took me to Stella for my birthday and it didn't disappoint! We sat outside, which was perfect because the weather was warm. Their outdoor area is super cute, bright with greenery. The star was their focaccia topped with aged Parmesan and the mortadella meatballs. The bread was so airy inside, and it was perfect to dip in the meatball sauce. The asparagus salad was super refreshing and mixed well with the burrata and yolk jam. We ordered cacio e Pepe and it has the perfect bite to it, loved that it was al dente! We also ordered the pork chop Milanese, which was super crispy and the lemon caper sauce was to die for. I was excited to try their baked gelaska. I'm usually not into marshmallows, but the torched marshmallow too was super fluffy and light, and tasted amazing with the raspberry sorbet and sponge cake. Another highlight! Service was great, everyone was super friendly and attentive. Only thing that needed improvement was my mocktail. It was supposed to be sparkling water with strawberry puree, but it was flat and tasted more like flavored water instead.

Yelp
Booked a visit based on the great reviews on yelp. To be fair it was a hot day and they say us in their tent area. The fan was running but it was very hot. We started with the Mozzarella with walnuts which was fine. The flavors did not come through, felt very flat. Did the Australian Steak, and it was gamey. Perhaps that is how it was excepted but I don't like chewy and gamey meat. Might be I was not set for this. The tomato and cucumber salad was the star, fresh tastes, variety, distinctiveness. Perhaps I ordered wrong or the heat was too much. Service is attentive. The tent is tight so be prepared.

Yelp
Oh Stella, where ya been all my life ? Seriously, we recently moved to the Sonoma coast (Sea Ranch) and have been working our way through local Sonoma and Mendocino county restaurants and wineries and once we came to understand that the fine folks at Glen Ellen Star were responsible for Stella we knew we needed to try and get a table when friends came to visit us this past weekend. We could only get a 4:30 PM Saturday night seating out on the deck but we made it work and by the time we were into our starters the entire restaurant was full and hopping ! Great service crew, and a special card was even waiting for us upon our arrival (it was my birthday and all the staff signed a card !) . Our dinner group of two couples had a number of starters including the meatballs (excellent with a really fresh tasting sauce), the local fresh fish crudo (yummy and very very fresh tasting), and two orders of mozzarella- one with artichokes and the other with pesto. They came with delicious grilled bread that had fresh herbs and olive oil and garlic etc and this was a winner ! I brought a nice Napa Fisher 2015 Cab that they kindly decanted and we ordered a local Chardonnay (which helped us get the $35 corkage waved), and the bottles were both yummy. Our Bottle of Chardonnay toppled over while sitting on ice nearby but our kind waitress just brought us a few small glasses worth to the table to compensate for the tumbled half bottle...and so it goes when the place is busy... Mains were all excellent - the Grilled fish was easily enough for two to share and the steak was excellent and my Milanese pork chop was massive and yummy. Wish the menu pointed out it was fried and not sautéed. Also Next time I'd get the sauce w capers on the side. We also had two sides, the creamed spinach and the mushrooms and I'd also have whatever sauce was on those shrooms on the side as well. Also the shrooms were weirdly those teenie tiny mushrooms typically used in Asian soups etc...perhaps a heartier grilled mushroom type next time might be a better choice ? We were stuffed and passed on dessert, but I had hoped to have something brought over to the table for my birthday (besides the kind card) with a candle etc - but hey, all and all it was a great meal and we will be back. Despite only being open for about 5 weeks the Stella team are crushing it and we wish them continued success and luck ! Great job Stella crew ! Looking forward to many more celebratory meals with all of you - next time perhaps a little later in the evening and inside ! Welcome to the neighborhood!! Next time I'll try some of the pasta dishes...and maybe a dessert ? - yummy !!

Yelp
My husband and I love to eat and drink in Sonoma County, and after trying Stella for the first time last night it has moved into our top two best meals. Service by Anthony was outstanding, but everyone we encountered was professional and kind. The food was incredible. We tried about 6 different dishes and they were all amazing...highlights for me were the Rib Eye, the burrata and the meatballs. My husband said it was the best steak he's had in Sonoma County, and he's tried them all. Of course the pasta is delicious too, and rivals some of the best pasta I've ever had in Italy. Don't skip the Tiramisu for dessert. Chef Tony has done a phenomenal job creating each dish. Ambiance was wonderful. A great selection of wines by the glass and an extensive wine list. Definitely our new favorite spot! We drive from Healdsburg and it's worth the drive.

Yelp
I have now had 4 great meals at Stella! One lunch and 3 dinners. We are SO happy that they opened in our hood, and can't tell you how great the food, atmosphere and staff are! So lovely. Amazing food. I'm just a huge fan. And I love the music! Yacht rock forever!!!

Yelp
I hardly know where to begin. The design aesthetic makes for one of the most casual yet sleek dining room environments I've seen anywhere in the county. The seating strikes the perfect balance of a communal feel yet not intrusive if you're there for a date. Service is on point, informed yet casual and friendly, and everything flowed seamlessly. We went for lunch; the casual menu offers a limited if not good variety of options - several appetizers could be shared as a nice alternative to entrees. We opted for the ridiculously affordable lunch combo of a sandwich and side for just $15 - the bread for the sandwich has a fantastic texture with generous and fresh fillings. We chose the fries and tomato soup for the sides, with the soup being the winner. Lastly, the wine list features small producers and some less familiar varietals for some fun and satisfying experimentation. We will definitely be back to experience a dinner service.

Yelp
My husband and I had a fantastic experience here on a Monday night. Brought a nice local bottle on free corkage night. The food and service was incredible. A dish came out early and our server was ready to take it back and give us another one. I didn't mind keeping it and grazing. Can't wait to go back and bring our boys too.

Yelp
This place is awesome! From the second we walked in, the remodel was done so well. The staff is always friendly, well versed with the menu, making us feel right at home. The food is delicious! Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The wood grll gives you all the best flavors in the steaks! Homemade pasta's are next level, every appetizers and sides were on point. We also tried dessert, the panna cotta or Pistachio cake are delicious!! (FYI I dislike panna cotta, but this is amazing) Overall, it's just one of those spots where everything clicks: great food, great service, and a good atmosphere. I have been here three times so far.

Yelp
We had a lovely evening at Stella. The modern decor inside was beautiful and inviting and my favorite dish was the shrimp with polenta. Heads up- the sauce has a bit of pork, which gives the dish a lot of depth in flavor, and has the slightest hint of spice that I loved. The pork and beef ragu was a solid dish and the prosciutto was chef's kiss. We are glad they are so close to home and hope to sneak over again soon.

Yelp
New restaurant with the trappings of a great restaurant. Service was very good, the interior is fantastic, and the food is just a couple tweaks from being excellent. We tried the baked alaska dessert variation and it wasn't nearly as good as the tiramisu which was probably the best tiramisu I can remember. I like what they are trying to do. Will go again and looking forward to it. *** I saw another Yelp review and they mentioned something I saw on my bill but didn't pause on it to consider. Stella charges a credit card fee on the bill as a "non-cash fee" of 3%. I don't approve of these sorts of additional "resort fee" gotcha nonsense. If you aren't putting the cost into the price of the dish then it's a dishonesty. I can afford 3% but I cannot afford the lack of respect. Rating downgraded.

Yelp
A simple yet elegant lunch out with my wife with a short drive out to Kenwood that was so worth it. The friendly staff welcomed us into the beautifully decorated dining room where we sat facing the open kitchen. Our waiter was exceptional, giving us time to decide and being attentive if we needed more water. The Caesar salad was fresh and cold, with the perfect amount of cheese and anchovy flavor. The Stella burger with bacon marmalade was delicious and no notes on how to improve the crunch on the fries and fluffy interior. The lunch portion for tomato soup and a half sandwich was spot on, leaving no room for dessert unfortunately. Once our baby is born, we'll have to come back for dinner so we can try the dessert!
google avatar

Francesca A.

Yelp
We had an excellent waiter, all the staff were friendly. Our anniversary dinner was phenomenal. We had the scamorza, melted cheese on grilled sourdough over honey, the chickory salad, vodka tomato pasta, and a dreamy delicious tiramisu. We'll be back!

Yelp
I've been hearing many great things about Stella so had to come check them out! Arrived for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We were given a nice indoor booth, apparently the "best seat in the house". The service was excellent, the server shared the specials of the day and talked a a bit about the farm nearby which grows their produce. He also checked in after every dish arrival to make sure the food is to our liking. We ordered the special salad of day, the cucumber, watermelon and tomato salad. Blown away by the sweetness and juiciness of the mixture. My hubby ordered the Stella Burger and I ordered the Tonnarelli & shrimp FraDiavolo. The shrimp is a must order item here! Home made pasta in house so soft and slurp-able! A tangy, mild spicy sauce topped with gulf shrimp. Oh my, I can eat that dish everyday! Stella is fabulous for good food and service! I'm already planning to visit their sister restaurant, Glen Ellen Star.

Yelp
Four of us went here last night; expensive but worth it. Nice ambiance on the patio on a cooling evening, very busy so clearly popular despite being open just a few months. Parking is a bit tight but we found a spot nearby. We over ordered as portions are substantial even for appetizers. Meatballs were excellent; nice an fluffy, not dense. The Romaine Salad was more than enough to share for two. as was the Burrata & prosciutto di parma which came with very nice seasoned bread. Our friends had the equally delicious Burrata & bacon. We should have just ordered one for the four of us. I had the Tagliatelle with cultured butter, prosciutto, 36 month aged parmesan, which was delicious but a mistake on my part as I had prosciutto in the appetizer and there was far far more of it with the Tagliatelle. The pasta was fantastic though. Two enjoyed the Rigatoncini pork & beef ragu while the fourth had the Pork Secreto special. Service was very good and Nick our waiter did a great job. Thankfully, while the appetizers came out rapidly, there was a welcome pause between them and the mains for us to prepare ourselves for yet more food. Finished it off with a decaf Affogato. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
When I checked in the greeter sail said "oh you are the ones here on your 55th anniversary. Congratulations! That's rare, and the first to recall the 55th anniversary note I made in the reservation app. And then at the table there was a "Happy Anniversary" card and key people and the server signing. A first for me! You can see it in the first two pix. It's a concrete example of how they LIVE customer satisfaction. Most restaurants say it. Stella demonstrates in actions, a much higher bar IMHO. We shared the Burrata & Prosciutto di Parma both from Puglia. 10! Next we also shared the "Light Salad" lettuces and flowers with oregano red vinigrette. A 10! My grilled shrimp toast was a 9! Great sauce, great bread, "grilled" shrimp had a texture of boiled shrimp. No pix, I was too busy carving it up and slaterhing with the sauce that the toast was in with the grilled shrimp on top. This was a 9 for me. The shrimp tasted more like shrimp cocktail (boiled) shrimp. it was very very good, but if it was grilled it might have been great. My wife loved her grilled (over open fire) Wagu beef, a true medium RARE. A 10! Why is most of NorCal restaurants I go to think "medium rare to rare" means medium well??? For dessert I had a decaf affogato with housemade gelato. A 10! My wife had a berry sorbet. A 10! My wife had a "low alcohol" Strawberry margarita with wine as an ingredient to lower the % alcohol. I had a glass of white Tansy Falaghina GL from Sonoma County's Russian River. The falangina had 12.5% alcohol but it hit me, so maybe it was something in the process. Service was wonderful. The ambiance was very friendly from servers to the customers, and several customers talked to folks at another table. It reminded me of a really really well done software startup that hired A-players for management, back of the house, and front of the house who were great food, great wine AND incredibly great client-centric. This was my first restaurant visit to Kenwood. I got a sense that the restaurant was building on a warm and welcoming foundation of the Kenwood vibe. The seating i chose was inside, and they're was a long bar connected to the chefs' area so you could be a single, the tables were modular so it could be 2 or for or with one side as a chair and one side as a giant piece of cushion (on bottom and back). This was an incredibly high level. I've never experienced it for a LUNCH meal. Gonna have to come back for dinner. And the next time I'm taking 101 north and turning on route 12. The google suggestion saved two minutes and was a nightmare of twisting and turning. I'll leave it to the locals from now on.

Yelp
Stella was an incredible birthday meal to put it lightly. The starter squash soup and fresh sourdough with burrata and prosciutto set us up for a fabulous time. Fast follow with the lamb, meatballs, and burrata with squash, we were already blown away. The pasta with chicken liver was a dish to remember. Thank you to Steve, the Manager and his team - service and subtle touches like the happy birthday card made this experience an ideal one for any one celebrating a birthday. Cheers!!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Every time I visit Stella I'm already planning my return! Amazing food? Check. Service that makes you feel like you are at a friends home? Check. From the time you're greeted at the door the magic begins...and don't skip the burrata!

Yelp
Second time my wife and I have come here and we love it more every time! We came here tonight to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and the service was as outstanding! Such a cute little patio that we sat in and the food was spectacular! This place has the freshest pasta. Our server was so friendly and even gave us a free glass of champagne each and a dessert to celebrate our anniversary! Can't wait to go back!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner at Stella. Their enclosed outdoor space was so warm and comfortable. Joel provided friendly, timely service. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the use of persimmons in their dishes, particularly in the mozzarella and honeynut appetizer.

Yelp
Delicious food with spectacular service. We absolutely loved our server John who gave phenomenal recommendations. You will be missing out if you don't have John guiding you through the menu!

Yelp
We've been to Stella twice now, once during opening week and again last week for my birthday. When it's just my husband and I we like to sit at the chef's counter (same at sister restaurant Glen Ellen Star) but we're also excited to bring friends and family and try the patio and dining room as well. We love chef Bryant and Chef Ari, and the team they've brought together here are great- warm, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable- from the host stand until the final goodbyes. The food certainly lives up to the chef's reputations. First visit we opted for a few starters, a dish from the fresh mozzarella menu, and a couple pasta selections. All stellar. Shout out to the cacio e pepe- something hubs always wants - sometimes when you do something seemingly simple but exceedingly well it really shines! This last visit we ordered bread and a newer salad on the menu with peaches and cucumber. So light and perfect for the transition from spring into summer. We didn't do a pasta last trip because I was excited to try the pork chop Milanese off the main plate selections. It's definitely a shareable size. I loved it, it's absolutely crave-able. Desserts were perfect and the team had a birthday card signed for me, a very sweet touch. The design is fun, the art in the entry and the pasta wallpaper in the hallway is an IG dream. So happy for Kenwood to have such a gem. Can't wait to try that lunch burger, we will be back!

Yelp
Excellent food, amazing ambiance, and John was a fantastic server. We had a great time celebrating our friends birthday. They even made us a bone broth soup for a friend that wasn't feeling well, which put the icing in the cake

David Z.

Yelp
consistently the best restaurant I have ever been to in Northern California and practically anywhere else. The menu is superb and the ingredients are of the highest quality. Preparation is outstanding. Every wine I have had on the wine list is absolutely excellent. Service is very friendly and expert. For example, I dropped my napkin and it was replaced within 10 seconds without my asking. A small detail but typical of Stella. All the help there -- most lately the rookie Anthony -- could not be more helpful and caring. Just a great restaurant.

Lisa M.

Yelp
We came here for my husbands birthday dinner. It did not disappoint! The food not only tasted excellent but the portions were generous. The staff were super attentive and kind; three different waitstaff came up to wish my husband a happy birthday. We ordered the Cesar, burrata and prosciutto, the rib eye and a nightly special fried chicken with mac and cheese. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
We had a fantastic dining experience here! Apparently we ordered the first tomahawk steak. What a treat! the meat was delicious and well prepared. the wood-fired grill worked magic! the potatoes served with it were also very tasty and perfectly crispy. We ordered the grilled mushrooms to accompany - and they were also excellent! Service was also exceptional. Nick was great, and made excellent recommendations for wines to go with our meal. Highly recommended! Stella is a great new addition to Sonoma Valley dining!
google avatar

Mila C.

Yelp
Stella is a beautiful space with an inviting atmosphere. The best seats in the house? Definitely the chef's counter-an incredible spot to watch the magic happen. The food was spot on, perfectly executed, and full of flavor. And whatever you do, don't forget to check out the dessert menu-totally worth it! A fantastic addition to Kenwood.
google avatar

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch at Stella -enjoyed a great deal featuring a half Italian sandwich and fries (or soup) for only $15. Fantastic and a great value! More than that, our server Mike was incredible! Steve, the manager, even came by and when we complained about a lack of chocolate on the lunch dessert menu, he brought us a chocolate wafer to go with our leftover red wine from lunch. Outstanding service and food!
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
I recently had an early dinner here (pre-event at Sonoma Botanical Gardens) with friends, and cannot believe I hadn't been here before. We shared several appetizers (including mortadella meatballs - friends, hold onto your hats, we have discovered the meatballs I will actually eat - and like! My inner picky toddler is appeased! Haha), pasta, salad, and a delicious and addictive corn dish, two lovely bottles of wine chosen by the most knowledgeable person in our party, and finished it all off with affogatos for the table. Service was attentive and lovely. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu.

Yelp
The service and the ambience were great We dined at the chef's counter which is very entertaining, but the salad guy needs to not drop his metal bowls .The tuna and pastas were all great. The artichoke and mozzarella cheese was also very good, but the rosemary bread overpowered it. I love grilled bread but this was overdone and almost croutons The pork cutlet was perfectly cooked but slightly under seasoned and really didn't get very many capers as I've seen in many photos overall great experience and will be back. Went back for a second time and it was 5 stars on all levels. We are all excited to have such a great place in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Problem #1: We were told there was outside dining. It was a plastic tent and NOT open air. Autoimmune people can't sit in tents with others. Problem #2: The tables were nearly on top of each other. We couldn't have a conversation as it was so loud (more so because it is not outdoor dining). The food was really base. The beets had white goo on them (cheese foam!) Ever hear what Gordon Ramsey has to say about foam? Husband's pasta...I don't have enough time. Wine was great but they didn't have anything to do with that.

Yelp
So so glad Stella is finally open and a great Italian food option has been added to Sonoma! First let's start off with how gorgeous the interior is and the open kitchen is awesome! The food was outstanding!!!! Imported burrata like no other, I am still salivating at the burrata and bacon appetizer and the pastas were all cooked perfectly! Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Don't be deterred by the few parking spots by the road, there's adequate parking as t the back. We came here as walk-ins for a party of 5 for lunch on a holiday weekend and loved our experience. The host and hostess were warm and welcoming and able to get us seated right away. They have indoor and outdoor seating, we opted to sit indoors. They have a good collection of wines, low alcoholic cocktails and zero proof drinks. We had some beers which felt crisp and refreshing on a warm day in Santa Rosa. The menu has a mix of modern appetizers, pastas, salads and burrata combinations. We got the walnut burrata (4/5) this could have done with a punch of flavor in my opinion, but was perfectly creamy and paired well with the rosemary buttered sourdough bread that came with it. Next we had the chopped salad (5/5) perfectly dressed and a good balance of flavors. For entrees we had the burger (5/5), the lamache pesto with green peas and roasted mushrooms in a green pesto sauce (5/5), chicken parmesan (5/5) - a huge portion, good for sharing and a side of truffle and garlic fries (5/5). Everyone loved the food which we shared family style. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu which was the perfect ending to our meal. Our server, Mike was prompt and attentive, gave us good recommendations with our food and ensured we had a top notch experience. This is a great place for an elegant and upscale vibe away from the chaos of Yountville. Will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, everyone was so warm and welcoming. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and the table was already set with a card signed by the whole team, which was such a sweet touch. Steve, the GM, made sure we were taken care of all night and his hospitality really stood out. The soup was incredible, the lamb was tender and full of flavor, and the pastas tasted fresh and homemade *this makes a difference*. We ended with the pear sorbet, which was light and refreshing. The open kitchen was beautiful and the whole team clearly cared about what they were doing. The food speaks for itself- chef cares, the team cares, the hospitality is there. Well done!! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Cali!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I had dinner at Stella's again on Saturday. The cuisine is Michelin worthy, elevated by a team with experience at iconic restaurants on the east coast. We especially like the chefs specialties, such as the halibut crudo, with heirloom tomatoes (farm-to-table fresh) and the pork belly. The wine list is thoughtful, complementing the dishes, with some hidden gems from both Sonoma and Napa county. Bringing it all into focus, the service is gracious and attentive. Special thanks to Greg Kasparian, assistant general manager, who always makes us feel welcome. We look forward to our next meal at Stella's!

Yelp
We've been to Stella twice now (we love Glen Ellen Star). First visit was food was amazing top to the bottom despite the only two top being held up by another couple sitting there. At the end of my meal my wife asked if they would comp the corkage which our waiter happily did. Our first visit we shared some pastas the Creste di gallon and Rigatoni pork & beef ragu. We did the burrata & bacon appetizer, also very good. Meatballs as well! Sicilian focaccia was equally delicious. The dessert we shared was very good but I'm blanking on it and it's not on the menu. Second meal was equally very good overall. We brought some family for the first time. They loved everything. The mozzarella with pesto was delicious so we decided to get lumache al pesto. It was okay , we weren't in love with it. We also shared a pork special kind of done if not mistaken kind of in the Iberico style they said. It was good , flavor and fine just not as interesting as we hoped. Service was great both times, they are dialing in and the indoor and outdoor seating both very comfortable. They did a great job renovating the old Cafe Citti. We look forward to trying a few more menu items and going for lunch soon!

Yelp
Rainy Sunday trip to Stella'. My husband loves chicken parm and this dish was outstanding. Perfectly cooked with a delicious tomato sauce. We can't wait to go back. I did mention that it would be nice if the chicken parm was also on dinner menu. Very attentive staff

Yelp
Stella is so cute! They wrote me a little birthday card which was signed by all the staff. Cute little touch. The aesthetic was nice and I loved the outdoor area. I got the Ragu which was soo good. We also got the meatballs, Lumache, and cacio e pepe. No complaints! The Caesar salad was nice and crispy and cold too
