Where to Find Smoothie Beers in Seattle - Eater Seattle

"The style still seems to be a relative rarity in Seattle, although not completely unheard of, with Renton’s Bickerhouse, West Seattle’s Good Society Brewery, and Bellingham’s Stemma collaborating on one in May." - Gabe Guarente

Owners Jason and Kim Harper run a great brewery. We recently had a company Christmas party for our company at Stemma Brewery. Now that they plan to open another location, we plan to continue to use their services and amazing selection of beer, wines, ciders and more! There is something for everyone and family and pet friendly. A great atmosphere and well run establishment!

Google
Great beers in our family's opinion. We're not IPA fans but there were enough options for us to be happy. As for the food trucks, they're not great for vegans, with only two options - a vegan grilled cheese from Burnt Side Down, or a veg burrito without dairy from the Tepozteco Taco Truck, but there are definitely some tasty (though decidedly unhealthy) vegetarian options - *real* grilled cheese sandwiches (very very tasty), mac & cheese at Big Stick BBQ (if they have it - they were out when we were there) and a couple of items at Tepozteco. We visited on a busy Friday night at about 7pm, and all the outdoor tables were full but we easily found a table inside without any trouble. We probably won't be regulars because we prefer healthier food, but we definitely will be back.

Open tap room with three food trucks on site. This brewery came recommended from a couple previous stops. The covered patio was pretty full, a good sign. Parking was a little sparse for spaces. I forgot to ask our beertender who the cut out was of, see pics. I missed it when we arrived but as we left we noticed a lounge-ish area in the corner with comfortable chairs and a couch. I liked how open it was, perfect weather for it. I like color, so I liked the lime green walls. I didn't peruse it but noticed they had a merch area. All the tables were standard height, thanks. Thanks Stemma for the delicious beer in a comfortable tap room, cheers.

Google
I love coming to Stemma whenever I’m in town. Great beer garden with a couple good options for food trucks. The bbq is pretty darn good. Last time I was here I had a lemon cayenne beer that was spicy and energizing and I can’t stop thinking about it honestly. The atmosphere is laid back and there’s plenty of seating inside and out.

Google
Great, family friendly brewery with fun community events and local food trucks outside available for patrons to enjoy. Their beer and seltzer are delicious (with loads of fun options on tap) and their staff are incredible. Stemma consistently makes their mark as one of the best breweries in BHAM and is one of our all time favorites, for sure!

Google
I’ve been coming to this bar since they opened, and it’s still one of my favorite hangouts. Good beer, great atmosphere, and a crowd that’s always easy to be around. I also love how involved they are with the community—their events are always a good time. They’ve had a solid lineup of food trucks for a while now, and it’s super convenient. The food’s reliably good, and it’s nice to have options without having to leave the spot. Shoutout to the couches too—they’re always super clean, like freshly vacuumed clean, which I seriously appreciate. It’s my go-to spot to chill with my baby. Little touches like that keep me coming back. Ps. I miss Zeus! Glad hes still apart of the logo. Hope that never changes!

Google
Good selection of their own locally brewed beer. Pleasant atmosphere. Love it that there are food trucks on the property.

Google
I recently held a client appreciation event here and it couldn't have been a better experience! Everyone at Stemma was appreciative, excited and their enthusiasm spilled over into the event. Great beer, fun vibe and a couple wonderful food trucks outside! We are fortunate to have them in our community!

Yelp
Oh Stemma, you are just one of the best and favorite places in town! I've been a patron since you guys opened and have attended every anniversary since . During their anniversary, they brew a Pickle Seltzer which I LOVE and usually get 2 or 3 growlers of. The owners Jason and Kim are delightful and kind, and their staff is amazing! Year round favorite place to meet up with friends. **The only bad thing I can say is that sometimes it's soo busy that you can't find anywhere to sit, so you stand outside in the cold because this place is a favorite for the whole town!

Yelp
Great brewery just off the highway with a few food trucks on site! Stopped here on the way back to Portland from Canada and it was a great place to try a few beers and get some food. Big outdoor space and friendly staff.
google avatar

Nolan L.

Yelp
Stemma was awesome! Great beers, food trucks outside, and dog friendly; what more could you ask for? The staff here were awesome, super helpful in picking out which beers to try. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Stemma is definitely now among our favorite breweries in Bellingham!

Yelp
Stopped to check out a few breweries in town while passing through and had heard a lot about Stemma! Super convenient too as it was right off 5 and had a nice little parking strip off the road. Beers: Conditus Lager Ammets IPA Oppan Dunkel Garden Party Hefeweizen I liked the vibe of this spot and they had three food trucks on site, three! It was a Tuesday, that's got to be a big win for them if that's the norm, as I've been to at this point 150+ breweries and that's a rarity. Lindsay is the beer tender on candid camera and she was so awesome! She was so nice, conversational, and attentive. She also hooked us up with a few recommendations of other places to check out in town. The beer itself I thought was solid. Standouts: The lager was a lemon and cayenne pepper with a nice heat to it. Hefeweizen had a solid banana to clove ratio. Only thing I'd change out of the grouping would have been more malt in the dunkel, but perhaps it fits the local palates best less sweet? Definitely recommend Stemma and hope you get Lindsay! Make sure you take care of her !
google avatar

Denice R.

Yelp
OMG what so I adore best about Stemma ... their Conditus Lager - 5.O% ABV - this spicy lemon and cayenne lager will rock your socks off. If you're into beer with a bite give this one a try. Haven't found anyone else that's doing this. Have turned many folks onto this beer. I've tried their other non-IPA beers and enjoy those as well but the Conditus is my favorite. They have good food truck outside to add nutrition to the alcohol. And there are other food trucks and food options nearby. Service is good. Parking can be tough on sunny warm days, but if you can walk a bit no big deal. The interior has an industrial feel, not uncommon for modern breweries. It's an area favorite.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Another stop on vacation! We were driving to Canada on our way from Seattle and Bellingham has it all. First stop there was Stemma. Lindsay the beer tender was so sweet and when we asked her fave brewery aside from here she grabbed a map and walked us through her favorites as well as other places in the area. The beers were tasty and they had a great variety. I really liked their conditus lager. Sweet and spicy! They have food trucks on site and for a weekday they seemed pretty steady. Both outdoor and indoor seating available. Very clean too!
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
I've only been here a few times but every experience was a good one! The staff are always friendly and I never wait long for my drink. It's a great place to hang out with friends! I usually have ciders when I go out. I've noticed when I ask about ciders they have you sample their seltzer they make. It's not bad but it's not my kind of drink. There's been a good truck whenever I've gone. There is also a waffle place right next to Stemma. I haven't tried it yet but I really want to! I recommend this place!
google avatar

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
I happened upon this place actually looking for another venue . I am SO GLAD I did. What a great vibe the other patrons were so much fun and the food recommendation was top notch. The bartender was a joy to be around and I can't imagine having a better experience at the other place I was trying to find.

Paul P.

Yelp
The food and beer are excellent. But the other night my girlfriend had a feinting episode and really really struggled to recover, the staff and patrons were super accommodating and went out of their way to try and make her feel better. To the two staff members that checked on us thank you tremendously. Full endorsement of the food trucks and beer and huge endorsement of the staff at this place. Thank you!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The only issue I have with Stemma is there isn't one closer to my house in Bellevue! I have to drive all the way to Bellingham to enjoy this gem of a brewery. Who else routinely has smoothie beers? The banana slushie ale was delicious, and they even let me get it in a sampler size! The employees here were super friendly, and all of the beers were solid. Outside seating was delightful and they had a good taco truck out front. Next time I'm in Bellingham I'll be making it a point to visit Stemma again.
google avatar

Kasey B.

Yelp
About once every two years I am out in the area to visit my friend Jenna D. With every one of those visits is a stop at Stemma. They have continued to grow since my very first stop there. They now have three food trucks on site, BBQ, Mexican, and grilled cheese to complement their delicious beer offerings. Slightly more parking space was another observation this last trip as well. The brews obviously all different, but the quality of the beers still just as good as my other visits. Always a great, fun vibe!

Rick T.

Yelp
Stemma is a favorite brewery. Never disappoints. We were there on opening weekend years ago & haven't stopped buying their great beer. You'll find Stemma offerings all over town - restaurants, bars & other breweries. This local, family owned place is SO worth your time.
google avatar

Jim Y.

Yelp
Love hitting Stemma when I'm in Bellingham. One of the standout breweries in the PNW - plus other delicious bevs - and exceptional food trucks. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
For somebody who likes iPAs, it's always a good sign when 7 out of 14 beers on the menu are iPAs. When on top of that they are tasty it makes it even better. Color me surprised when I discovered another beer that blew me away. Conditus Lager. Try it if you can. Some of their brews are available for takeout in normal 16oz cans, and for those that aren't (like the Conditus Lager) you can get in a 32 oz. crowler. The space is clean and modern with very quiet background music, so it's easy to have a conversation. Family and pet friendly to boot. They don't have their own food, but a food truck Mon-Sat, and a waffle place Thu-Sun. I enjoyed it, and I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Stopped into Stemma specifically to try Sweet As Waffles! Waffles and beer, y'all! What could make it any better?!?!? Well, tiny dinosaurs and an otterlope, that's what! We both opted for sweet waffles - a Coconut Cascade, add toasted marshmallows, and a Baker Blast. Both were wonderful and paired nicely with Stemma's Pluitt Porter and Three Points Berey Smoothie Ale, respectively. The waffles are warm and crispy and not too sweet. The toppings are plentiful without overpowering the waffle. Nicely balanced!! Oh, and each is topped with a tiny dinosaur. (My only question is trying to figure out "who they are as an artist" (h/t American Idol)... how do you tie together "Sweet As Waffles", dinosaurs, and an Otterlope?... inquiring minds want to know!) Just keep making those waffles!!! Stemma is a great venue - nice outdoor space with shade and sun, and a roomy indoor area. Lots of tables to enjoy your waffle (or Mexican delights from Chihuahua). And, of course, Stemma has great beer across the styles as well as a selection of hard seltzers and ciders. And if you need dessert after your waffle, they also have West Coast Pops!

Yelp
Disclaimer: not a beer person so probably not a good person to ask for a beer review. That being said I will tell you that I enjoyed my time at Stemma today. Never been and had always seen the sign off Iowa, so when the Bellingham Yelp Elite Ambassador ask me come and enjoy one of their beer on a Sunday afternoon, I said yes and when? First, love, love the quirkiness, bright colors, and artsy feel of their decor. From talking to other fellow yelpers there the location was once a auto repair and last a women's gym? And now its a bewery for the locals around. I ordered the Super Squeeze. Pleasantly surprise it taste like a mimosa. Perfect drink for a beautiful warm sunny Sunday on the patio with friends. Only giving it a 4.5 stars (if there was a half star) because I planned on coming back to try more of Stemma's beer option instead of just trying their seltzer and wine today. While there, I got to order Da G.O.A.T from the Sweet As Waffles food truck that was recently station at Stemma about 2 months ago? Check out my review under "Sweet As Waffles." Back to Stemma-- great place to grab a beer or two and chat the day away with friends. I saw dogs and even kids, so kid friendly(check) and dog friendly(check check). While I did read about a resident cat on previous Yelpers' reviews, I did not see him/her today. So they could possibly be cat friendly too? Thanks Stemma for good drinks and an enjoyable Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Erin for introducing me to Stemma. I can't wait to try more of Stemma's beer.

Yelp
Our family loves this place and its upbeat, caring employees and owners. The ambiance is perfect for low key or a more engaging experience depending on your mood and seating choice. Thanks Stemma for the great spirit, energy, and being one of the best places around!
google avatar

Yelp
I really enjoyed Friday beers with colleagues. As a non-beer drinker, I had a very affordable ($3) 5oz super squeeze seltzer, which was fruity, crisp, and a little tart. I appreciate that unlike some other breweries in town, they had an in-house fruity seltzer option. I also liked the 2 food cart options, the waffles and mexican food truck, which were both affordable and complimented the overall chill vibe. While the parking situation can be tricky, especially during peak hours, I referenced the convenient parking map they had on the Stemma website. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking to hang out with beer, non-beer, and foodie friends!

Yelp
We sought this out as part of the Bellingham Tap Trail. I was happy to find a new brewery I had not previously experienced in the Bellingham area. We showed up on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded, we were happy to have been able to find some street parking and almost opted to go elsewhere when we saw how all the nearby spots were filled up. We snagged a seat at the bar, it was a bit of a tight squeeze in and out of those seats. However the tap list was pretty great, the person behind the bar was super friendly and they had the cutest cat taking a nap in the brewing area. Everyone who walked by snapped a picture of it and I also didn't want to miss out. They had 4 IPAs on tap at the time, and we both opted to try one although I was also tempted by the Hazy. I had the Ammets IPA, intrigued by the hints of watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe, but can't recall which one my partner chose. Even though we had planned to just have one beer we soon realized that we had mistakenly overlooked the Conditus Lager which was a spiced beer with hints of lemon and cayenne. I'd definitely make this place a regular stop off if it was in my area.

Yelp
This was a cool little brewery outside downtown. There is plenty of parking nearby, and I loved that this location had a nice indoor atmosphere with outdoor seating as well. They have cool plants around and the staff was very helpful. I liked their hazy IPA.

Yelp
Great customer service & they have a pretty decent selections of beers and seltzers. Laid back environment & the pizza was delicious!

Yelp
Three cheers for another amazing new brewery in Bham! Stemma came onto the burgeoning beer scene this summer, and just happens to be the closest brewery to my house (danger danger). I'm in lovvvvve with their Amber ale, which isn't the easiest beer to find in this IPA-centric town. It's rich, malty, and complex with not too much (but just enough) hops to keep it interesting. I also love Stemma's light industrial, open-yet-welcoming vibe. They've got a nice bar to sit at if you're alone, and plenty of tables for groups large and small. In the corner is a cozy seating area with couches, and outside is a small beer garden for the sunnier days. If you go, be sure to keep an eye out for their brewery cats - including Zeus, quite possibly the world's cutest kitten. I'll confess I've been back twice recently, just to cuddle with him! (While enjoying my beer, of course.)
google avatar

Yelp
Dogs....dog and more dogs! Cat logos....did I mention dogs?! Love this place, I walked in with my husband on a Friday evening and I was greeted by everyone's dog. I mean, some people might be annoyed, but I absolutely loved it. You can tell this place whole heartedly embraces pets and everyone knows it. If my dog wasn't a diva who didn't like other dogs, I'd bring her. There's also cats on the glasses, I mean. I'm sold. As for the beer and seltzer, delish. But to be honest, I'm going to come back for everyone's dogs.
google avatar

Ricky R.

Yelp
Stemma became a favorite beer last year. I found them at a local bottle shop and fell in love. They have banger IPAs and fantastic other stuff. This may have been my favorite stop on our day trip. The beer was amazing. The vibe was cool. The staff was great. I found a shirt or two I wanted, just not in my size. I will be back for sure. Plus grab a waffle. They were delicious.
google avatar

Joel U.

Yelp
Great little brewery tucked away. Great selection of beers and a welcoming atmosphere. Love the large outdoor seating area.
google avatar

Calvin F.

Yelp
Stopped on the way back to Seattle. It seems to be in the warehouse district of Bellingham if they had one. It was such a lovely day, the place is expansive - a lot of outdoor seating and plenty indoor too. I loved the cat mascot! And the fact that they had, what looked to be, actual employee cut outs around the space. For beer we got - Ready To Roll Grapefruit IPA, Stemma Pils, Stemma IPA, and POG. I will say with this place the title tells you everything you need to know. We did prefer the Pils and Stella IPA to the more adventurous options. They are just classic staples down well. Couple things to note - if it's a windy, dry day the wind my bring over some particulates, sawdust or something along those lines. They do have a space for multiple food trucks - when we were there there was a Latin place and another place that was closed.
google avatar

Patrick D.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to go. The food trucks are awesome. I can take my dog inside. They always have dog treats for my dog. Great outdoor setting and beautiful inside setting. And also of course the best selection of IPAs in Bellingham.

K M.

Yelp
We went in the summer at lunchtime and it is lovely to eat outside. Good selection of food and drink.
google avatar

Dima H.

Yelp
We love Stemma! They have a great outdoor space with lots of different and distanced seating options. There's a great variety of beers as well as ciders and non-alcoholic beverages. There are usually two food trucks present - Mexican food and Sweet as Waffles. The latter is wonderful - both savory and sweet waffles go great with a drink and also come with a plastic dinosaur - perfect for any kiddos present. The indoor space is also very inviting.
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
Bellingham! You keep adding these amazing little spots so fast that I can barely scratch the surface when I come to town for visits! This should def be on your brewery list if you're in town. Solid food truck, great suds, and omg all the dogssss! There were so many furry friends inside being cozy with their masters, so feel free to bring your fluffy bestie along. There are several tables that seat at least 6 or more and a sizable room so all your two legged pals can join you. We enjoyed the cider on tap and their darkest beer, and the service was top notch. Friendly local joint - give em your dollars! Buy local.
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
Stemma is my new favorite brewery. They're working with some of the newer hops, like Talus and Sabro, as well as old favorites like Centennial, making exceptionally good IPAs. The service here is top-notch professional too. My first visit was on a rainy August day in the midst of the pandemic, so everyone sat outside. After getting my beer, bartender Zach followed me out with two big towels, which he used to dry off my table and four chairs (even though I was only going to sit in one of them). They care! Zach's still there, and still kicking butt. Bellingham's a tough place for a brewery to stand out, but Stemma certainly does.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Stemma is a great local brewery. I love that they provide non-alcoholic options-they really put the effort into making everyone feel welcome. I really enjoyed myself here. I didn't get an opportunity to try the food, but my favorite beer was the First Amber.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
Stemma is a new brewery that has emerged since I was last in Bellingham. I'm guessing about a year ago that was. Stemma proved to be a great stop as I was catching up trying new breweries, cideries and meaderies on this trip. I was instantly intrigued with the beer menu here and had my mind set on a lager. Well that made it just a bit harder. Now I had to try one lager first! Lol! They had a spiced lager which I decided to get and man oh man... that was a great beer! It had plenty of kick to it but didn't prove to be uncomfortable in heat either. Of course it was a lager and a lighter beer which is perfect on warm summer days. I really look forward to coming back here and trying more of their beers. If that lager was any indication of the rest of their beers being that good then Stemma will indeed continue to being a real treat for me and very likely a must stop whenever I'm visiting town!
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
This place was so great! They only opened up a week ago, and it is honestly hard to stand out among the already oversaturated Bellingham brew scene but this place is already a gem for us. The brewmaster was great, so personable and engaging. Each brew was excellent, especially I think one called Training Wheels, and the local ciders were great as well. I sample 3 beers, and 2 ciders and was not disappointed by any. One aspect that really sets this place apart is the brew kitty! She is the best host of all time. They do not offer food, but honestly it is nice and cheaper being able to bring snacks and a picnic or Uber eats a favorite take out! Taster flights of 4 beers/ciders for $8 was a great way to test out what they have to offer.
google avatar

Jenna D.

Yelp
I definitely, definitely need to update my review. The beer is super tasty and I do love the 0.3L serving size. They've expanded the beer menu quite a bit since their opening, and I daresay it's gotten much better. While I am still a huge fan of the amber, the various IPAs (especially the hazy) have been kicked up a notch. The food truck outside is a little on the spendy side, compared to other trucks that frequent other breweries. However, you are allowed to bring your own meals and snacks, so that's always an option. The service is still a bit on the slow and distracted side, but I have high hopes it will get better. If it improves with the same speed as the beer, I have no doubt it will be right up there with the other Bellingham staples.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
During our oil change at Wilson Toyota we walked over here to give this place a try! And we absolutely loved it, the staff are really nice, I got a hazy ipa which was phenomenal. We ordered some hamburgers from the food truck and had their beer and sat outside and it was totally perfect. Would I come here again: yes, 100% Atmosphere: it's pretty cool, lots of indoor and some outdoor seating. Cleanliness: the place looked really clean! Bang for your buck: a pint cost me 6 bucks, but 2 hamburgers with chips were about 30 so not the cheapest, but not terrible.
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
Came on an early Friday afternoon and vibes were immaculate. Super chill, great drinks. Winter ale or fresh hazy were our faves. Great local spot with a taco and waffle truck on property.
google avatar

Rick A.

Yelp
Love this place. Great beer and atmosphere, and the servers are super enthusiastic about what they're doing. Have been there twice and enjoyed it both times. We discovered the joys of their slushie drinks the last time we were there, and it's a guarantee that we'll be back for more.
google avatar

Yelp
Simply rad. The beer is fantastic and our bartender was incredibly engaging This will definitely be a go-to spot for us. Thank you, Alex for making our experience so memorable!

Jeff J.

Yelp
Cool vibe, unique for a town full of breweries. Parking lot view and freeway ambiance, but counteracted with a cool interior, nice people, and a tasty taps.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
This is the best brewery in Bellingham. The have a frequently changing tap list with a few constants. Everything the make is flavorful and very well balanced.
google avatar

Roberta M.

Yelp
Guys guys guys, as if Bellingham needed another Brewery. But then you get to Stemma and you are like, YOU ARE WELCOME. The beer menu is on point, and you can tell there is grit and heart behind every pour. I am a fan of the non-alcoholic options, all the watermelon water and kombucha your heart could adore. I want to highlight the family friendly nature, and how convenient it is to be able to take your kiddos! Frank's is permanently parked there, and the food is DELICOUS... but that is for another review. It is an easy decision knowing what will be there when you show up. Last but not lease, they have brewery cats, and specifically a little kitten right now that is the cutest...and dogs are allowed. I am not really sure what more you could ask for! Owners are solid folks on top of all that, and Stemma is 100% a stellar addition to the Bellingham brew scene.
google avatar

Brandy M.

Yelp
From Texas, and this was my 1st stop.... know I understand why Stemma Brewing is top of the list!! Worth it!
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
Yay! There is another Brewery that is really tasty! My only complaint is most the beers are IPAs, but something that is amazing is that they all taste different. They also have a really great porter and a stout (it is on Nitro and I don't drink stouts), a lager and an Amber. So they had some choices if you don't drink IPAs. They also allow dogs and kids. I spent all weekend looking for a brewery with a caffeine free root beer and they have one. It was for my niece who can't have caffeine after a certain time. I wish I would have known about this place sooner. Lol They had a food truck called Franks? With grilled sammys. Next I will try the food. Also, the patio is big and so is the inside. It is so clean and the colors are easy on the eyes. The beer tenders are super nice too. I can not wait to come back. Maybe my new favorite spot??
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
We stopped in here while on a trip to Bellingham. The beer was great. They don't have a kitchen, but they had a taco truck outside that had decent Mexican food. Being from Cali, my expectation for Mexican food is probably too high, but I ate it all and enjoyed it (I was very hungry). The service was great, but a little slow with only one person pouring beer, so a decent line seemed to always be there. The beer is what they shine at. Great selection and delicious. I will be returning on my next trip to Bellingham.
google avatar

Sheri L.

Yelp
Love this new spot! If you're an IPA fan (I am)- you're going to want to check them out! Really fresh, clean tasting, beautiful carbonation. I haven't tried their other styles, but I have no doubt they will be just as impressive. Mr. Frank's "The Bus" is the food truck and sooo tasty!!
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
There is always a great selection of fantastic beer on tap here. Sunday is pizza day....yum. See you again soon.

Sean P.

Yelp
First time at this brewery. Good beers and friendly staff. Cold day ad. Was crowded. Highly recommend
