Stevensville Crab Shack

Finally made the stop. With so many great choices on the Island of Kent, it took me a while to finally try this gem. It’s a unique establishment located next to the airfield of the Bay Bridge Airport. It features a homey quality and friendly staff, outside tables are perfect for the fair weather days and a sizable menu with local favorites.

Little Mom & Pop type shop with decent seafood. Only has outdoor seating (picnic tables) a few are covered by umbrellas or trees. If you aren't a fan of dogs, beware! Most of the folks with dogs didn't pay attention to them or keep them on short lines. We left our 2 home, so we didn't bother other diners. The man at the counter - assuming he is one of the owners - could have been a little more helpful for someone coming 1st time. We did say we were here for the first-time and not much of a response 🤷‍♀️ Got the shrimp salad sandwich, Steamed Shrimp platter (2 sides come with and I got vegetable crab soup which was super spicy and cucumber onion in sweet vinegar), we both got medium drinks and it was under $32 for both meals. I'd come back again!!!

Food was absolutely delicious. People were happy and friendly. They take as much care for the side dishes as they do for the main items. Will definitely be back! Update: I have been back, many times. Cozy outside picnic tables to eat. Great food for a fair price from friendly people. Every time.

Great prices and conveniently located spot. Friendly staff and food quality was excellent. All their platters have pretty good prices and a decent selection. Shrimp was seasoned wonderfully and the crab cakes were the best I've ever had.

One of the best restaurants for lunch on Kent Island. The crab shack has easily become one of my go to spots for seafood. The fish and shrimp always taste very fresh along with many options for sides. The service is always welcoming and happy to serve us.

The food was sooooo good! Like seriously delicious! If I hadn't been full, I'd have turned around to get more! We're always going to stop here coming to and going from the Eastern Shore!

I hadn't eaten here in a couple of years until tonight and OMG...it was so good!!!! Better than I ever remember it being! I had the crab cake, sautéed scallops, cucumber onion salad and deviled eggs. Delicious!! ANNDDD OMG I just learned they sell light crabs!!! I thought I was the only one who actually like light crabs!!! I'm so excited! 🥰🥰 Can't wait to go back. Tomorrow :0)

This place was the highlight of our trip to Maryland. Very fresh crab at a reasonable price. I loved the soft shell crab sandwich. Only regret was we only ordered one. The shrimp and crab Cake combo tasted great as well. We ordered a dozen female crabs to go and the owner threw in a few extra free crabs just because. Amazing service from a family owned restaurant. Loved it. I'll be back when I'm in the area again.

Maryland is known for their crabs and a fried soft shell crab sandwich is one of the ways to enjoy them. The crab is fried and you eat the entire crab on a roll. The meat is sweet and juicy! Stevensville is a great shack with outdoor seating and one our favorite places to visit after a fun round of golf. Highly recommend!

As a group from out of state, we wanted to make sure we got crab before our trip ended. This place let us order a bunch of crabs (and wings for the non-seafood eaters) day-of, which was nice. We made sure to order pretty early so they would have them ready by around 6pm. We ordered to go because the place is very small and we had to many people. The food travelled well back to where we were staying and we had fun cracking them open to get to the meat.

Excellent!! Great price and great size. These crabs were fresh and seasoned perfectly. Fast in and out with crabs ready on time. Any time I am over by Kent Island I will pick up. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Clean space and there is outdoor area if you want to 'dine in' but no dine in, outside and on a gorgeous day, this lot will fill fast.

I got a crab cake, fries, and crab soup for $20. Everything was freshly made and seemed to be from scratch. Great service and the outdoor picnic tables were nice. I'd go back.

Best seafood on the island at very reasonable prices!! We particularly love the fried oysters, crab cakes, hush puppies, deviled eggs and Maryland crab soup but everything we've tried has been great!! Highly recommend.

Just an update. We live in Hawaii and fly to the eastern shore of Maryland every year. Stevensville MD Crab House is hands down the best steamed crabs and value for crab weight than any other crab house on the eastern shore. If I'm wrong, I'm wide open to suggestions???

Awesome experience here on a family vacation. We ordered a dozen large crabs with seasoning and sat outside on the picnic benches taking them apart and hitting them with mallets. We will definitely come back again. The friend shrimp and chicken strips were also good.

No frills, just great food! We ordered carryout. Everything was excellent! We ordered crabs, rockfish platter, hush puppies and crab fried pickles. I had the rockfish platter. It was cooked to perfection and at $12.99 it was reasonably priced. There's plenty of food to satisfy anybody's appetite! Whether you are passing through or stopping in I recommend the Stevensville Crab Shack for great Eastern shore seafood!

this place has some of the best seafood i've ever had. definitely the best catfish!!! it was so fresh, tasty, & well seasoned. the lady at the counter was very nice. nice outdoor seating too. absolutely going to make the 1.5 hour trip to come back!

If you are heading back to DC from Ocean City, there is place to get crab or sandwiches before the Bay Bridge. Hubby liked the breaded crab. The size was decent. He also liked the vegetable soup with crab. The french fry portion was tiny. There is limited parking but it wasn't busy on a Monday afternoon. The bathroom was beyond gross. I went inside & left. This was the condition when it wasn't busy or crowded. There were several employees around. Maybe you have to wait for someone to fix a sink but a bathroom can always be clean. Bonus points for having birch beer on the soda fountain.

Amazing crab cakes, out of this world fries and both Ashley's were so friendly and helpful as well as others! Was so good we went on Friday and came back on Monday. A true hidden gem!

Stopped by today for lunch. Got the seafood combo and it was on point. Delicious fish with traditional cucumber salad like my mom use to make growing up. Staff was friendly and brought it out to me when it was ready. An island staple with great food at a reasonable price. Keep up the great work!

Quick stop for food on my trip back to PA. When I pulled up I was uncertain because it's literally a shack with no indoor dining. There are picnic benches outside. Surprisingly, my halibut fish sandwich and fries were tasty . Service was friendly and welcoming and it wasn't overpriced. Will definitely be stopping by again when in the area.

Great people. Amaze-balls hush puppies - truly bigger than a gold ball round crunchy goodness. Potato salad was more than solid - good flavor from mustard and enough egg to count. Coconut shrimp is EXCELLENT with prevalent coconut shreds - served with orange marmalade to dip In. Solid fries, piping hot. Good veggie crab soup. We got a half dozen medium crabs which was plenty for the two of us. Only sad thing was three of our crabs was missing one or both of its claws. The SO reported the crab wrap to be decent, but not delicious mentioning it needed a mayo based flavor like an aioli or rémoulade. Good prices, great seasoning. A very cute place to stop overlooking a non-commercial airport. Yes, you can get a bottled or canned beer, seltzer or cocktail from their cooler.

Under new management, food still excellent, more food under the new management, polite professional service! This restaurant is basically a take out establishment. Don't judge a book by its cover, shrimp wrap is to die for!

We just finished fishing with Prime Time Charters and let's just say the fish was ducking us hard today. We got away with about 8; half being rock fish but it was nice just being out on the water. Now as we heading back to get on the road my husband spots a sign that says Crabcake Sandwich $15 bucks; yup we bucked a U and we were both so glad we did. Babyyyyyyy the crab cake was crabbing and absolutely no filler. The bun was nice and soft with the right ratio of lettuce, tomato, and tater sauce. I had hot sauce in my purse (judge ya mammy) and they provided some Ketchup packets. Must husband opted for the chips with his meal and anytime I see fresh hand cut fries on the menu, that's what I go for. The fries were def hand cut, fresh, and most importantly salted well. We both agree they get a 5/5 for the crabby crab cake and the young lady at the restaurant was pleasant as well. Don't let the inside and outside fool you, if you spot the sign gone head a buck a U. They have nice outdoor seating as well!!

Food was really great BUT you cannot have a woman at the front counter consistently pulling hair from her braids and her loose hair on the floor. THAT IS DISGUSTING!!!! FOOD GREAT - HYGIENE GROSS

This place is an absolute scam. Ordered 1 pound of sautéed scallops to go. When I got home and opened the bag and container, there was less than half a pound, and dry and overcooked. I get that some of the weight reduces upon cooking, but it simply is not worth $30 for 0.28 lbs of scallops. Would not recommend this place.

Bottom Line: Excellent seafood in a no-frills environment. My husband and I have been driving past the Stevensville Crab Shack for quite awhile and we recently tried it for the first time. I'm sorry we waited so long to enjoy a meal from this seasonal and unassuming store front because it was delicious! I had some of the best coconut shrimp I have ever had and my husband had a crab cake sandwhich. He eats lots of crab cakes and gave it two thumbs up. We also really enjoyed their fries and I appreciated that they had a Coca-cola fountain soda since I was craving a diet Coke. Stevensille Crab Shack consists of s small storefront and a side yard with picnic tables. We visited in mid-August and given COVID-19 only one party was going into the small interior at a time to order. Then the employees bring out the food which you can either take to go or enjoy at the picnic tables. Even during usual times there is not any indoor seating. I'm glad that when we visited the employees were all wearing masks. I've heard a lot of people stop by Stevensville Crab Shack for steamed crabs but both my father and sister are commercial crabbers so we didn't try the crabs but I did get the sense the season with JO which I actually prefer to Old Bay.

Delicious food, friendly folks. Low key vibe & dog friendly. All our favorite things. Don't forget to add on the hush puppies.

My favorite spot to get soft shell crabs and a dozen female crabs. It's a no frills place that is all about the food. They only have outdoor seating with a restroom on premise. Keep that in mind especially if the weather isn't too pleasant. Love the soft shell crab sandwich here. Prices are reasonable. The deep fried soft shells are very crunchy and the crab itself is very fresh. The dozen female crabs run about $35 and they were very fresh as well. The main difference being that female crabs are smaller with the eggs but the meat is more sweeter. The sweetness is what draws me to the female crab. Well maybe not just female crabs too, haha. Anyway, this place is a great spot to grab a few soft shells and a dozen old bays on a few sunny day.

Mmm my wife is very picky about her crabs she woke up this morning and said you told me last week that I would have crabs so can I get some today? I said yes play make the trip all the way from Washington DC a 45 minute ride down the highway on a Saturday happy wife happy life one of her favorite spots.

I don't want to hate on a business but we live an hour away and make the trip 3-4x a summer to come get crabs go to one of the many waterfront parks and eat crabs. So disappointed, we asked for XL crabs and got tiny crabs that weren't fresh. The thing with crabs is that telling their freshness is fairly easy because of the meats texture, you can also open the crab and see the color of the guts to know how fresh it was prior to steaming or worse yet when they reheat crabs that have already been steamed. Businesses change hands all the time, they fail miserably when the new ownership takes a winning formula and mucks around with it. This business is fairly simple steam good high quality crabs and people will pay for it. The previous owners honestly weren't the nicest but we went back because they had the best crabs. I won't say I'll never be back, we are going to look for another place. Really disappointing.

This has become our go to crab spot! The crabs are always fresh and delicious. Recently, we started dabbling into their other sides and food options. Their steamed gulf shrimp where sooo fresh and delicious. And their hush puppies are some of the best I've had in a long time! Highly recommend this place. Note: We have gone here a few times and the crab meatiness really depends on the time of year.

This is a small seafood spot with limited indoor and outdoor seating. And that is the charm you will like especially once the food makes contact with your tongue. It's also a stones throw away from the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and Inn. Where you can get great Pie at their Market. I'll keep this review straight to the point: IT'S GOOD AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT! Food: Tasty Service: Great Atmosphere: Outdoors mainly and surrounded by a diverse crowd. You don't see this often on the Eastern Shore. Price: Reasonable prices. For example I had a 1/2 pound of scallops with my choice of two sides for $12.99, the Mrs. did the same but with a Crab cake for the same price. My suggestion go and enjoy!

This is definitely a hidden gem. Family owned restaurant with limited indoor seating, but plenty of fresh seafood to choose from. My friends and I ordered the Old bay wings, soft shell crabs, medium rare tuna, crab cakes, vegetable crab soup and fries. Everything was delicious and made fresh to order. We really liked the seasoning in the soft shell crabs, flavor in the crab cakes and how fresh the tuna was. Don't be turned away with the outdoor look if this spot. My fiancé is a huge crab cake lover. We had stopped here on a recent trip to the eastern shore based a blog post recommendation. I don't think I've ever seen him DEVOUR a crab cake faster. I basically blinked and it was gone. He rated it 10/10. Sides were also decently good. Had basic fries and potato salad. He also said the tartar sauce was spot on!

Every time I visit Kent Island, I stop at the Crab Shack. It's a simple, no frills establishment but they're efficient and the food is good. The steamed crabs are also so much better than the other options in the area. My kids like the popcorn shrimp there too. Today, we ordered 4 dozen female crabs and the order was delayed, but Bob communicated with me throughout to let me know the status. I really appreciated that. Sweet, delicious crab was the reward.

First time here and will be sure to be back many times! Delicious takeout of steamed shrimp, vegetable crab soup and old bay fries! A family feast for a very reasonable price. Can't wait to try the crabs soon!

I used to enjoy and recommend this place but apparently the ownership changed and the food has really gone downhill. Last week I had probably the worst crab cake I've had the displeasure of eating since I moved to Maryland nearly 20 years ago. Specifically, there was what seemed like 50% filler (breading.) Most Marylanders prefer crab cakes that are mostly crab! This cake was more like a bad hushpuppy and I will never order one again. It was also burnt. Secondly, the crab soup is nothing like it used to be. There was little to no flavors, a few veggies and a little lump of shredded crab. Canned crab soup from Food Lion would've been better. I don't write a lot of reviews but felt I had to earn folks in advance...sadly this isn't the old Crab Shack we knew and loved.

This is a gem of a restaurant. Delicious food and a great atmosphere. We enjoyed our crabcakes and the numerous sides. Our favorite sides were the coleslaw and potato salad. The Smith Island cake was a wonderful surprise. This is a Maryland delicacy. If you have not tried it, buying a slice is a must!

The name didn't lie, it really was a run down shack with no indoor sitting. Plenty of outdoor sitting though. Bathroom was an outdoor potty on wheels. We stopped by for lunch during our tour of Kent Island. We ordered cream of crab, coconut shrimp basket with fries, and the Crab Shack special which contained 1/2lb of broiled shrimps, lump crab cake, coleslaw, and potato salad. The family agreed the foods were incredible. The fried shrimps were light and not over fried. The crabcake was lumpy and not full of fillers. The broiled shrimps were seasoned just right with Old Bay. The cream of crab was creamy with full of crab pieces. The sides were really good too. Prices were really reasonable for such good cooking. Counter service was friendly. The only negative was the hand wash was out of order in the potty on wheels. It was ok, we had sanitary wipes with us. We definitely will return if we visit Kent IslNd again.

Haven't eaten here since before Covid. Order crab cake sandwich with side of cocktail sauce and cucumber and onions as a side along with Cole slaw. My son wanted chicken tenders and fries but because they were all out of fries they weren't offering kids meals. ‍ my son actually wanted hush puppies I asked if those could be subbed and the young girl said no. I asked if anything can be subbed and she said no sorry we are not offering that. I thought how odd. What's the deal with offering a substitution. After I left to sit in the car to wait 20 minutes for my order, my son asked if he could just get hush puppies so I ran back in to order those and a couple of other sides. The same girl waited on me. I asked to add some extra sides to my order. She said crab cake comes with two sides. I said I know I want extra sides. I ordered hush puppies, pasta salad, and vegetable crab soup. She asked what size soup after I told her once when she asked. She apologized again. When I came back in 15 minutes the 1st order was ready, but my second still waiting. Need up waiting another 10 minutes. Another person whine counter had asked m name to see what I was waiting on and I said my crab cake is ready as I checked a bag that came out 20 minutes prior and it was mine, just waiting on my second order. I saw her go to the prep area and there was my soup and pasta salad but no hush puppies. They eventually came out. When I go to the car the soup was room temp from sitting in container while the hush puppies were being made. My crab cake was cold by then too and it had brown lettuce on top and they gave me tarter sauce instead of cocktail which I verified on the order slip. So while the crab cake was decent, it was cold as well as the soup thought it was good and a tad spicy. Hush puppies were hot as they were the last to be bagged up. Cole slaw was not as good as it had been the other times I had it. Less seasoned. Pasta salad was seasoned well with old bay. Was looking like a new crew there there was rap music playing in the background and the older gentleman and woman that usually work the counter were no where in site. Thinks the usual crew were their family members. Hoping they didn't move on from the business. This crew seemed well disorganized. Lastly there special portable bathroom on wheels outside was atrocious.

First time there here, service great, price, almost 10 for fishy crabs!! I thing there was so much ol bay to cover up the age of the crabs I was raised as a kid in south jersey, Beach Heaven, grandparents taught us to crab and eat blue claw young. We had to toss $60 of crab , they were inedible . I'm sorry to leave this negative review, but beware, inedible crabs @ Stevensville , so sorry Cj

The food was awesome. We had the fish and the clams. Best fries I ever had. Unfortunately we went there for the lobster or snow crabs but they had neither. Nevertheless we were not disappointed.

Last night my wife and I ordered from here. Crab cake platter and steamed shrimp platter. Also 2 Maryland crab soups and 4 deviled eggs. It was awful! Eggs weren't even edible, sides were just as bad. Crab cake was all bread filler woth almost no crab and no taste. Soup was not crab soup, next to no crab and no taste at all. I will never go back. Man do we miss Bob, the former owner!

This was our first time venturing to try the crab shack again after having bad experiences in the future. The staff today was sooo pleasant to order from. All of the food we received today was excellent. We ordered 1/2 dozen jumbo crabs, they were the best that we have received from the area. My daughter and husband split the fried cod plate and soft shell crab wrap. All food came out hot and fresh to order. We were checked on multiple times while sitting in the out side eat area and were brought anything we requested. The bathroom was also very clean for being a portable one. We look forward to having future orders with the crab shack this summer season. If you had a bad experience, I highly recommend going back and trying them out again. I am so glad we did!

Outstanding crab cake and some of the best fries I've ever had in my life. I definitely will be returning!!

Remarkable because I had both the worst softshell crab sandwich and the worst hush puppies that I've ever eaten. The crab sandwich was so salty both my wife and I could only eat about half of it. The hush puppies were ultra oil soaked almost all the way through.

We wanted to go for a bike ride and tried the South Kent Island Trail and Matapeake dog park nearby. Found this place on Yelp and gave it a try since we could have our dog with us outside. Ordered two dozen crabs, a fried oyster platter and a soft crab platter. It seems it was a little early in the season for fresh oysters. The soft crab was superb. The fried oysters were quite yummy and the crabs were quite good and meaty. It was the most perfect weather we had. Will definitely plan to come back another time when passing through this area.
