⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steve’s Deli – A Classic That Never Misses This place has been around since 1995, and it’s easy to see why they’ve stood the test of time. Steve’s Deli serves up some of the best deli sandwiches and matzo ball soup around. Their breakfast is also fantastic — you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. My buddy and I came in on a Thursday and got their Thursday special: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, and soup. OMG — it was so delicious. Huge portions, full of flavor, and very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. On top of the great food, the service here has always been top-notch. Every visit over the years, they’ve gone above and beyond. Never had a bad experience. If you’re anywhere near Bloomfield Hills and craving comfort food or a classic deli meal, Steve’s Deli is absolutely worth the stop.

Stopped by Steve’s Deli in Bloomfield Hills hoping for a solid Jewish deli experience. They have the usual staples—bagel and lox, whitefish salad, latkes, etc.—but unfortunately, the quality just isn’t there. The bagel and lox were passable, but the whitefish salad tasted like it had been sitting for a while. Produce accompanying the dishes was clearly a few days past its prime. The worst offender was the potato latkes. The center was still frozen when served, and when they were reheated, it was in what tasted like very old, dirty oil—really unappetizing. On the plus side, the prices are fair for the area, which makes it all the more disappointing that the freshness and preparation didn’t match the value. There’s potential here, but the quality control in the kitchen needs serious attention.

Another great meal at Steve's. Food is good, fresh and well prepared. Very clean and lots of parking, especially in bad. Service is fast, and Kristal always checks to make sure everything is fine. Highly recommend.

Google
The hot corned beef sandwich is SO good! Perfectly flavorful, warm, and the bread won’t cut up your mouth. At $20.99 it’s not cheap, but worth it! Our server was prompt and friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
I was in the carry out section for almost 10 minutes, 3 different employees walked by me including the “manger” and 2 say we will be right there and disappeared. Great service. The food was as good as any/most deli I have been to no better or worse, so nothing special. But the service make it not worth going again. The sandwiches are bit expensive for the size.

Google
Dinged one star for the prices ($7 for a cup of chicken noodle soup is ridiculous). Otherwise, an outstanding deli.

Mick Sibinovic

Google
Very EXPENSIVE but quality is amazing. I had carryout and ordered a caesar salad but got a caesar wrap instead. It’s a busy place with lots of activity so I was probably heard wrong. Not the end of the world but to drive home an hour with this surprise isn’t ideal when a few items cost you $60. I’ll definitely be back and they have baked goods in house and an array of unique items. EDIT: 1/12 after the last visit had the wrong order I came back. The cardinal sin occurred; a hair in my coleslaw. Pictures posted with receipt for transparency. It’s one of those feelings that completely disgusts you. After factoring in that I drove through a snowstorm and the price paid it’s really unsettling. If Steve’s card about reviews they would reach out and attempt to make this right. But how? This was my 3rd visit in the same months and I think I have to pause on my patronage.

Google
Picked up an order on the way out of town. When we opened the order on the plane it was wrong and very poorly done. After nicely contacting the deli a manager said we would get a credit. When it didn't show we called and were given the run around. After nicely insisting on talking to the manager. Steve got on the phone he was EXTREMELY rude and sarcastic! Even making a remark about us not being his best customer. We ended up tossing out the sandwiches. Needless to say we will never go again.

Ellaine M.

Yelp
BEWARE, They charge 1% of the total bill for using a credit card?? Soup is $8 dollars a bowl? Corned beef isn't as good as it used to be. I'm done with this place. It's like a low rent Coney Island version of a good delicatessen. Owner is a cheapskate and it's honestly par at best. Definitely not worth the astronomical prices they charge. Ended up spending over $30.00 for a sandwich and fries. TOTAL RIP OFF

David D.

Yelp
to begin with, when I order chicken soup and get angle hair noodles with a few carrots and hot water, and "beef" mushroom barley (heavy barley, almost no beef) for $21.00!!? then to charge $6.00 for a cup of coffee and a tea bag!!? the worst part is to have the waiter tell you " if you don't like the prices, don't eat out" Really? avoid this deli, you can do better.

Trev S.

Yelp
This place is so scrumptious! Traveling for work and we find this gold mind. Lunch was so so good we went back for breakfast the next day. So good I forgot to take a picture of the food The sandwiches are huge and recommend the 1/2 Sammy and Salad. Breakfast is so good. I can't say anything bad and can't really knit pick. The waitress was phenomenal Steve, well done. Go go go.

Cb M.

Yelp
Food is really good. For carry out, check your order for accuracy--they don't. And bring plenty of cash.

Jay B.

Yelp
We go here often for lunch. Food is very good and high quality. Huge portion sizes. One sandwich feeds two people. Service is always fast and you need to get used to the deadpanned service from the staff that doesn't have time for pleasantries. :). Very clean restaurant and nice ambiance. Our only real problem is the cost, prices are very high. Quality is very high so we keep going.

William B.

Yelp
Best deli in town. Their soups are delicious and the sandwiches are stacked so high you can hardly get your mouth around it

Justin G.

Yelp
I had this deli for lunch on Thursday, December 28th, 2023. I used to have this place regularly growing up in Oakland County. I ordered hot brisket and chopped liver sandwich with a bowl of chicken soup with noodles and a matzoh ball. I found the soup to be good. The broth had a lot of flavor. The chicken, carrots, and parsnips were succulent. I enjoyed the matzoh ball as well. However, I was disappointed with my sandwich. Even though I liked the brisket portion, I did not enjoy the chopped liver's taste. It was dry and very grainy. I also asked for a side of Russian dressing, and it wasn't served with my sandwich. I thought my waitress was very rude. She had a terrible attitude, and was quite unfriendly. The restaurant itself was pretty small and crowded. I think I'll just try other Jewish delis in the Detroit area for now on.

Scott E.

Yelp
Absolutely great Tuna sandwich and even better service from Ashley H. Not a fancy place at all but a traditional deli with lots of options and really good food. No frills, just lots of great smells and great food. We got in and out in less than 30 minutes. Very impressed. We'll be back! Thanks Ashley!

Karl M.

Yelp
Food and service good, but sandwiches $18.99 with no chips. Then they also add a $1.19 surcharge if you pay with a credit card. So 2 sandwiches and one drink was over $40 before tip. At these prices we won't be back.

Andria M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited Steve's on a Saturday afternoon. I was expecting a small, one counter deli, and was completely surprised when I walked in. We weren't expecting a shop or the sit-down areas! Service was decent. We got our sandwiches quickly and they were great! The prices though... WOW! You'd think you were eating at a Michelin restaurant! For two sandwiches, one side of fries, and two sodas- we paid $74!!! Ridiculous. It was something to experience, but I can't say we'll be back.

Bob L.

Yelp
Don't know what is wrong with me...I went back for the chicken salad sandwich...which is really good. Problem with this place, among many others, is you have to eat a S__t sandwich dealing with the rudest people the owner could find. Not worth it. And I had to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for it. Are they out of their minds? The new standard for exorbitant prices. Plenty, I mean PLENTY of other delis just as good, without the rude and unhelpful service. I will save my observations about unsanitary conditions for another time.

Dawn V.

Yelp
I've reviewed other menu items before but wanted to review again to give credit where credit is due: Chicken noodle soup: 5 out of 5 stars When it's a chilly day and you're needing comfort or a wonderful take-out gift for a friend feeling down- no matter, this soup is FULL of chicken and noodles and carrots and take-out comes in a beautiful glass jar with sourdough bread. Eating in? See pic- no one beats this soup. And seasoned just enough for you to add your own salt/pepper too. (I HATE salty salty soups that most restaurants serve- nothing you can do once it's over salted) With the additional seating in the large breezeway, you don't feel the Covid crunch Bowl of soup and half sandwich = $15 and that's fair for this quality. (Get the turkey sandwich to maximize value)

Genevieve D.

Yelp
You're gonna pay a lot for the food that you get but it is always delicious. Plus the staff are all always friendly.

Brian S.

Yelp
My family has been going to Steve's Deli for many years. Really has been good, a little expensive but good. I wrote to them last week that I have had back to back bad pastrami sandwiches. Meaning half the sandwich has been total fat. Their response was Thanks for the information. If you want to pass on anything else send to JC Here's my response to JC - a simple sorry for the quality of the sandwiches I received would be better than that response. Sometimes the customer should get a sincere response of apology vs the " I can't do anything about your sandwiches...just let JC know " Maybe you are so busy you don't need the business...

Ray H.

Yelp
A nice expansive menu and more than adequate staff. Ambiance is typical Deli. My Hot Pastrami on Rye was the worst sandwich I've ever had. Extreme tough. So bad I nearly choked. To add insult to injury, it was $17.99 without a side dish.

Bernard J.

Yelp
The Turkey dinner is so good! I mean when I long for the warm cozy feeling of the ultimate comfort food (Thanksgiving day dinner) this place is my go too! I loved it so much I just reserved my Thanksgiving Day Meal for the 2nd year in a row. It's money well spent and the added treat of the sautéed corn sealed the deal. You order it and set the time to pick it up the day before Thanksgiving. After many years of stress filled early morning wake ups to cook the whole dinner. I found this the best tasting alternative, to all the time stress and cooking it. Seriously this is a great meal and a great price, and now I am able to sleep in on Thanksgiving Day is priceless. So if you want to cater in dinner for this holiday, Steves Deli is the choice!

Yelp
Went to Steve's Deli for carryout for my first time. Pre ordered 2 salads by phone. When I got there the prepared food looked and smelled amazing. So I figured I would get some depending on price (Steve's Deli has a reputation of being expensive). So I asked prices for Knishes and was told $7. I asked about the cabbage rolls. I was told $12.99 each but if I got the dinner it was $5 more. And finally I asked about their pot pies. I was told $14. So I got two Knishes, one cabbage roll dinner, and 2 pot pies (in addition to the two salads I called in). I paid my bill of $130 and left not thinking too much about it. When I got home I put everything in the fridge for later (we eat kinda late). When my girlfriend was getting everything out to warm up for dinner she noticed there was more stuff on the bill than in the fridge. So she had me look at the bill. Upon looking at it I immediately noticed the prices were not what I was told and I was charged for an extra cabbage roll. I figured no big deal. I'll just go back the next day and let them know so they can refund me the difference. The meat knishes were amazing!!! The pot pie was okay but not worth what they charge. And the cabbage rolls were ok but not as good as the ones we get at Sabina's Polish restaurant at less than half the price. The salads were very good, better than we had even hoped. The following day we had storms and power was out at Steve's. So I had to wait 2 days before I could go in to show them the discrepancy. I showed the receipt to the same girl who rang me up and showed her where she had charged me for an extra cabbage roll ($13) and charged me $27 for the dinner that should have only been $18 ($5 more than a single cabbage roll as quoted by her when originally ordering), I forgot to mention to her the knishes she charged me $8 instead of $7 as I was told. She acknowledged the mistake and apologized (the correct thing to do!), then said she would have her manager come over and take care of it. The manager came over and I explained it to him and he said no problem he would refund me the extra cabbage roll because I never received it. However, he would not refund the overcharge because it was only a mistake. I was kinda shocked by that and said well yeah. I totally understand it was not intentional. But it wasn't my mistake it was yours. Now I expect you to live up to your word and refund my money. He snickered a bit and said no. The girl who rang you up is only 15 years old. I'm sorry she gave you the wrong prices but I'm not giving a refund for that. At this point I was starting to get mad. I told him she is your employee, thus your responsibility. Not mine. I did not miss quote you! You miss quoted me and now I want my money back, I want you to make it right. If you don't I will call my credit card company, have the charges reversed for the entire bill, you will lose me as a customer, and I will go out and write a review to let everyone else know what you are doing. He then snickered again and said go ahead there is no law against this and I won't lose you as a customer either. At this point I was ready to come unglued at his ignorance and arrogance. I told him it absolutely is illegal and you damn well have lost a customer now give me the receipt I'll have the charges reversed (at this point I was not yelling but my voice was much more harsh than previously). Now all the customers were looking at us and he knew it. So he started rambling about me coming in here and banging on the counter and I cut him off and said what the hell are you talking about? I have done no such thing (and no, I really hadn't. So I'm not sure what he was talking about). No give me my receipt back! He then looked around and said I'll take care of you. I said fine, But I want the full $22 owed me (it should have been $24 but I had forgotten about the knishes). He mumbled something about $18 and I said no, do the math $22! So he typed some stuff in his register and told me to put my card in and said he'll give me $21.77. So I said fine. And put my card in to get what refund he was going to give me. At yhis point I really didn't care. I wanted to yank him over the counter and take it out of his hyde! Needless to say I will NEVER, EVER, go back! I don't care what that jerk thinks!! It's a shame too. Because the food there despite being on the pricey side is actually pretty good for the most part. But the arrogance and stupidity of the guy running the place just ruins it. Long story short.... No I do not recommend this place for the reasons stated above. However, if you do go make sure you keep an eye on your bill. Don't let these assclowns take advantage of you the way they did me!!!!

Sheldon F.

Yelp
1. Tuna fish at $17 per pound is way overpriced- and was exceptionally dry! 2. Was charged a surcharge for using a credit card - but with no visible notice of surcharge (or option to pay cash to avoid surcharge.). Very poor business practice.

martha r.

Yelp
I understand every one being short staffed.... Rudeness is not ok. The gal on phone wouldn't take an order for a simple corn beef sandwich. My friend went in and was greeted with rude attitude. She went to order a simple Corned Beef sandwich with mustard. They told her that was a #4 (Which is a combo and also not made as even menu states) When I called to let them know - The reply was : "I'm swamped. Sorry we got it wrong but whatever- Enjoy your sandwich " 1 badly made, wrong sandwich and a single Coke" $22.00 And the corned beef was DRY and a fat filled center- not visible until I had to dissemble the sandwich trying to make it somewhat enjoyable for myself.... Star Deli from now on.

Chris S.

Yelp
Best deli in the Midwest. Highly recommend the chicken mishmash and their corn beef sandwich

Joe J.

Yelp
Let me start off with this - overall, the food is good. The corned beef sandwiches are good, the meat is cooked well, fries are usually hot, matzah ball soup features a globe sized matzah ball. There are also a few downfalls. The first is the price. For three of us to have lunch, it was over $80. Again, was it good? Sure. But it surely wasn't that good. The second, they always seem short staffed and their servers seem frustrated. I am not sure if it's because of their lack of support from management, but it's obvious and I feel bad for them. I think this establishment has been around for so long, they are well known in the community and have fallen victim to the classic "well, it's always worked when we do it this way."

Rita E.

Yelp
I love the food here, but very expensive. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I asked for lettuce, tomato and onion on my sandwich. The lettuce was not charged, but they charged me $1 each for the tomato (one sorry piece) and the onion? My friend took home her salad, asked for extra dressing, and they charged her for that also! Unacceptable!!

Elie M.

Yelp
While back in Detroit I met a friend here for a Pastrami sandwich and it was GREAT. Tasty and juicy. Very good

Lacey A.

Yelp
Ok I still love their salads and soup but holy crap the workers are so mean for no reason

Brenda G.

Yelp
The atmosphere was organized creative and modern. They make and carry a lot of specialty foods. Their hit deli counter looks delicious and amazing but 25 for a Rueben with coleslaw and lean beef. Overpriced. Pretty much very overpriced but because it's west Bloomfield they feel they can do that. It's always what the market bears. So yes good stuff but just know you will pay too dollar for not so top of the line stuff it's really good don't get me wrong but pricey in my humble opinion.

Scott F.

Yelp
I was charged an additional $1.94 for using my credit card after spending almost $70.00 on 3 sandwiches, seems like a MONEY GRAB!!!!!!!

Andy P.

Yelp
I wont be going back to Steve's Deli ever again. The food is actually pretty decent, even though it's extremely over-priced. The service and attitude are flat-out poor. If I wanted a snarky, rude deli...I'd go to NYC. Now they have a policy..."no phone orders". Really? That seems like an absolutely stupid strategy in today's fast paced world. Steve's Deli expects me to go stand there for a 1/2 hour while they make my salad? That will never happen. They don't have to worry about me dining in. I'll never be back.

Vanessa B.

Yelp
Very disappointed with Steve's. I called with a simple, 2-item carry out order, but didn't discover the order was wrong until I got it home. I called the manager to report the error, and he became very aggressive, raising his voice and talking over me. His tone was abrasive; he offered no resolution and blamed a new employee for the mistake. While other small businesses have struggled to maintain their clientele during the pandemic, Steve's manager didn't care that my order was wrong and simply wanted to reprimand me for reporting it.

Tom M.

Yelp
Horrible. Incredibly terrible service. I thought maybe I was in a sketch being filmed. I used to order pick up and it was always frustrating to wait as the staff ignored you. They ended that last year. So recently, I figured I'd order a salad then do some shopping and come back. There were three people behind the counter ignoring me and one other customer. Then they wait on him, turn their back and walk away. At that point, I told the guy, he was a "better man than me to wait and put up with their crap." He smiled and said, "oh no, you're the better man for walking away. It's almost like their gleeful in their rudeness. Never again!

Janis M.

Yelp
After a spectacular lean corned beef sandwich, last week, we ordered a grilled chicken taco salad. All I can say is REMOVE IT FROM THE MENU. Head lettuce with cubed chicken & a slice of avocado was a Sorry rendition. My fault for ordering an exotic dish

David S.

Yelp
Steve's always delivers. This was a to go event and the order was ready on time as usual and delivered by their friendly team. The corned beef sandwiches were amazing! Can't wait until our next visit.

Prettyboi Icee B.

Yelp
I came in to pick up a Doordash order & the employees were rude & unprofessional. I got treated differently than everyone else that was in there. I'm sure it was because I'm black. Racism isn't good for business

Doug C.

Yelp
I'm accustomed to the service people being rude, as many have said. What I'm not accustomed to is the orders being incorrect. We ordered three meals and fries, total of over $60. When we picked up the order I asked if there were condiments in the bag, the employee looked in the bag, huffed, and threw the condiments in the bag like we were asking for extras. The turkey burger was correct, we asked the pastrami to be grilled and it wasn't, we ordered off the bone turkey and got chicken. They treat you like they are doing you a favor by accepting your business. Two of the three orders were incorrect. Embers, here we come.

Pam L.

Yelp
Party of 8; around 1/4 of tables occupied. Wait staff was very cordial and hard working. Obvious communication gap between wait staff and kitchen, as only two of us received what we ordered on the first try. On third try, three of us settled for what was brought, even though several serving sizes and breads were wrong. Side order of cole slaw and half of one full sandwich order were not received until we were ready to leave, so they were taken home. Matzoh ball soup was very tasty and included generous noodles, carrots, and chicken. Reubens appeared to be good. Three of four pastrami orders were quite gristly, onion rolls received were disappointing re: quantity of onions and consistency. Ambiance was basic NYC style deli.

Miss B.

Yelp
Overpriced overstuffed sandwich for 25$, or grilled cheese sandwich comprising of white bread and a slice of cheese for $9?

Sebastian S.

Yelp
We walked in for take out we got 2 pancakes,a corn beef sandwich, and some bagels that cost over 70$ that's to much with inflation the workers where rude and yelling when us asking if they had soup they didn't and they try charging us for orange juice when it came with the pancakes.I will come back to this place because you can't judge it from one experience people make mistakes so this will be updated.

Linda M.

Yelp
HORRIBLE customer service. This was the 1st ( and last ) time I was there. According to the menu, salads include chips/pita on the side. When we told the waitress that our meals didn't come with them, she said you are supposed to ask ! Not once did the waitress come to the table to see if we needed anything, was everything ok? do you want dessert?THREW extra napkins at the table, etc... Just WOW. I read other reviews on here. Seems management does not care which is why I wrote on here instead of calling Steve's to complain.

Rita G.

Yelp
I am giving this spot 5 stars, mostly for service and the great covered outdoor patio (this is very important right now). The food is also delicious. Reminds me of my grandmas kitchen. Good coffee, a fresh bagel and lox. What more can a girl want? Well after a long night out, maybe their corned beef hash. On a gloomy rainy day, maybe some chicken noodle soup and a latka. The options are endless. The menu is long. It is definitely expensive but well worth the premium price.

Omar D.

Yelp
Alright I will give you the pros and cons straight. Let's start with the pros, they make a nice Reuben. My friend who likes tuna melts also enjoys their tuna melt. Now on to the cons; somehow they have a revolving door of smug ass employees. I been coming for over 10 years and it's actually funny how they love hiring smug ass employees. Now if u ain't ready from some smug ass shit go somewhere else. Bunch of smug ass employees. But the Reuben is good.

Stephanie Elaine B.

Yelp
Steve's has always been expensive but lately it has gotten to the point of being absolutely ludicrous! I don't mind spending a lot of money for great deli (e.g. The Stage in West Bloomfield); food is pretty good at Steve's but not good enough to justify the prices or for me to tolerate the often mediocre service.

Michael H.

Yelp
This is a really good, old fashioned deli. The deli sandwiches are quite generous in their portion sizes. The meat is tender, flavorful and juicy. The chicken matzo ball soup has good flavor. They also have a hot bar for you to pick items for a full dinner. The chicken breast is large, tender and juicy. The brussel sprouts were sweet andvroasted nicely. Plus, they always have great cheesecake. They staff might be small right now, but they are quick and efficient. Not to mention they manage to stay friendly despite how busy they seemed.

Jesse W.

Yelp
Something has happened in the last few months with the service provided at this restaurant. Terse, annoyed waitstaff, and often out of many menu items. And now lo, on Sundays the full menu is not available. I used to really like this place but now I feel like I should seek out a different, more dependable deli.

Sally B.

Yelp
Hubby and I love Steve's. It's a must-stop when we're in the area. Hubby orders half of the deli counter and we have delicious meals for several days! Our favorites are the matzo ball soup, Reuben sandwich, and the pickles. We find the staff to be helpful and inviting.

Tab A.

Yelp
Just had lunch 12/06/22....OMG my Club sandwich was enough for two. Delicious crisp bacon, fresh Turkey, unbelievable white bread. With a touch of Mayo. Delicious all the way around. The Chicken melt was as wonderful and HUGE. Highly recommended $$

Eric C.

Yelp
Service ok. Courteous server. Worst turkey off bone shoe leather sandwich for $25. Awful. This is 3rd bad experience. Never going back. It used to be good. I don't believe a single positive review on this site. I do believe all the negative ones.

Pamela K.

Yelp
I always pay good money for a pricey deli like zingermans no doubt, but this place fell short. For $40 I got a salad & a quart of soup. Their chicken soup is good, gives enough for a few people so more worth the money. Salad was $18 and I received 1 tiny slice of avocado in it, why bother to even have it listed on it then?? And bacon was like bacon bits not even real fresh bacon pieces which I was expecting from a pricier salad. Overall was the food good tasting? Sure. Would I return? Probably not

Brian F.

Yelp
Decent food without question, but I will say the last time or two we have been in here we have been catered and accompanied by the absolute most rude service from the female wait staff you can imagine and given this place just had a tragic event with a gun shooting of a coworker to his coworker it comes as no surprise because I have seen firsthand how some of the women in there disgustingly treat customers and often times their male coworkers. It's sad , it's wrong but like I said...doesn't surprise me this happened.

E F.

Yelp
Salad that was overdressed. Cold mashed potatoes. Mediocre turkey reuben. One the flip side, had a good attentive waitress. Also pretty pricey but if you split it's manageable. Definitely won't be back. Not worth the money.

Lincoln P.

Yelp
Best Matzoh ball soup in southeast Michigan. Great deli fare I feel like I am back in NYC.
