The Hottest New Bars Around D.C. Right Now

"Hidden beneath the stretch of Nationals Park-facing bars is a refreshing new drinking den that doesn’t have to turn to game days for entertainment. The very-red lounge, from its leather bar stools to large neon-lit lips, is outfitted with a high-tech DJ booth and 15 low-level tables framed with soft couches. The beverage program centers around updated takes on Prohibition-era classics ($14-$19), and bottle service with mixers starts at $275 for Santa Teresa rum or Roku gin." - Tierney Plumb

I unfortunately have to agree with the other reviews that imply that this place has racist staff. Also there are some shady things that occur inside. A few weeks ago I went to the establishment and on my way out. I was told by a staff member that I could not leave because the elevator was open (This is called false imprisonment). So I proceeded to try to take the steps and saw five or six staff members holding down a black woman on the steps. I don't know what was going on, but honestly, it looked sexual. They then push me back into the club and close the door. My Uber was coming, so I push the door back open, and told them to all get out of my way which then they were forced to let the Black woman go and she ran out of the building. When I got upstairs, a man then proceeded to kick me out assuming that I was with the other woman which I was not. I don't even know what was going on. I had to call the police, they are involved and have given me the name of the manager. They were on my side and believe that I was wrongly discriminated against and I will be escalating the issue. Please see attached of the picture of the staff member.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 STFU LOUNGE is an absolute must-visit when in DC! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with an inviting ambiance, top-tier service, and a vibe that perfectly balances sophistication and fun. A huge shoutout to General Manager Richard, whose leadership shines through in every detail—from the impeccable service to the seamless flow of the night. And let’s talk about Lulu, the bartender extraordinaire! Not only does she craft some of the best cocktails in town, but she does it with such warmth and personality that every drink feels like a personalized experience. If you’re looking for a spot that delivers incredible drinks, an electric yet cozy atmosphere, and top-notch hospitality, STFU LOUNGE is the place to be. Don't miss it! Tell ‘em Johnny sent ya!

Great service! She was friendly and attentive, and made the best drinks. Really appreciated how welcoming she was. Thanks for making my night! Thanks Sahian ! Thanks STFU 🤫

I don’t usually care for nightclubs, but this spot was amazing. It’s on the smaller side, but that’s just part of the necessary struggle with most DC venues. The highlight for me was the security team—professional, welcoming, and really set the tone for a great experience. The crowd was mature, the DJ had a fresh mix (not the same old DC playlist), and they played a good variety of genres. It was one of the best nights I’ve had in DC in a while. The only downside is that it can get a bit overstimulating, and the drinks are pricey, but overall, definitely worth checking out! This might be the new Sunday move for the year. It’s a vibe.

We came for a quick drinks after a Nationals game and love the speakeasy vibe. Sadly, there are many things wrong with this place. First off, we ordered a Prosecco and had the bartender promise it was Prosecco when I told him it was flat and he begrudgingly poured us new glasses. We ended up with Prosé sparkling wine from Italy, which is not Prosecco, and made of completely different grapes. It was not great. Then, we found out they add a 20% auto-gratuity on all services without telling anyone or giving a check for review before paying so the bill seemed a little high. When I spoke to a manager about the “apparent” overcharge issue and the fact that they incorrectly named sparkling wine prosecco, he had to look at the bottle to confirm it was in fact not prosecco. He offered to take back our glasses and refund our drinks. That was a nice gesture but the overcharge was not clarified until he waved a receipt in my sisters face and showed the price included a 20% auto-gratuity which the bartender (nor manager) deserved seeing as how neither of them knew it was a sparkling wine and not prosecco to begin with. Their attitudes were crass and unprofessional and if their only solution is to “take back our drinks because we seem unhappy about everything” and give us a refund, needless to say their customer service could also use some help! It’s too bad too because the venue has a lot to potential and a good DJ. Hate to knock it but unless they change their manager, I won’t be back and I highly suggest you rethink going.

Mr. Speakeasy at another speakeasy. A new spot opened about a block away from Natz stadium. Went when it just opened so it was pretty empty. Laid back vibe and great service. They usually have a dj there Friday and Saturday.

The drinks were amazing! Crafted very well and the presentation was a nice surprise as well. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, explaining the drinks and history behind them. I went for happy hour so no DJ but the playlist definitely set the mood, not too slow or fast but had me vibing.

Yelp
Another "speakeasy" to add to the list! It's not super hard to find, which is convenient but kinda defeats the purpose of a speakeasy, but it was a great experience overall. They only serve cocktails, so this can be a great before or after dinner stop. That being said, the drinks are superb! The vibe is dark and red. Music was lo-fi/vibey in the early evening and was more hip hop/R&B as the night went on.

Yelp
A nice little speak easy, nestled in the basement of a building in the Navy Yard. The vibe is more lounge than anything else, with dark lighting and music playing. The servers all wore dress shirts with bow ties, which didn't really match the vibe of the place. They only serve alcohol, no food, so don't go there hungry, which is one of the reasons why I left after only one drink. The other was the uncomfortable seating along the wall. As far as the drink that I had, they have an assortment of cocktails that you can order from the menu. The drinks were pre-made, so that was a major disappointment. I think it'd be best if you just ordered a traditional cocktail and not their special ones.

Yelp
3.5 stars! Came for a friend's birthday party and had a nice time! Loved the vibes and thought the drinks were great! We had a table so had a server. Tables seem to have to be reserved in advanced, otherwise there's plenty of standing room. Our server was attentive enough but didn't seem to be in the best mood. My biggest complaint was the music was SO loud!! And no one was dancing so I'm not sure why the DJ turned the music louder and louder. It made it impossible to hear the person next to you without screaming. I ended up leaving for that reason. They seem to still be getting their fitting and not know what they want their vibe to be. Is it a chill speakeasy with good drinks and fun music to come talk to your friends or a loud nightclub to come dance? Right now it's trying to do both and accomplishing neither. Overall would come back for the drinks and the vibes but probably only during happy hour or early in the evening. The music was just too unbearably loud, even compared to other places.

Yelp
Stopped in here after dinner on a Friday night. Solid cocktails saved an otherwise confusing venue. The good: the drinks here are good, an interesting and unique selection of cocktails made fresh by an army of friendly staff. We tried three of the house drinks and my wife loved the hot honey addition. The bad: the atmosphere is a bit confusing. It was set up as a lounge when we were there but the single large open room with concrete floors, large screen tv walls and dj booth made it feel much more like a dance club and not like the intimate lounge that the furniture and staff outfits seguested it was. Maybe we were just here to early and they do move the low tables from the room and turn into a nightclub at some point but while we were there it seemed like the space design and atmosphere were really at odds with the lounge theme. The mediocre: Hidden bar/speakeasy niche. This is a fun novelty that I have enjoyed in the past and I like the general setup of the entrance to this bar for that reason. However again they undermine this novelty by putting red velvet ropes and a bouncer outside the street entrance. Overall good stop for a few cocktails on a quiet night but not quite the intimate speakeasy lounge we thought.

Yelp
I would not recommend coming here at all. The door is very discriminatory in its admittance. I've seen them turn certain people away for wearing shorts, and meanwhile, let in other groups of people with shorts on. I've also seen them charge one certain group of people money to get in, and let in other groups for free. I would really urge management to train its staff on how to treat potential customers. This place is a basement at the bottom of a hotel, it's not a rooftop at the top of the Empire State Building, yet they operate as such. 0/10 - would not recommend.

Yelp
Really nice addition to the Navy Yard area! (I'm glad to see something other than a sports bar in the area). If you enjoy craft cocktails and a low key atmosphere, definitely make a reservation and enjoy. I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places right now! My close friend and I had the pleasure of making the discovery when it first opened, before summer. The staff and drinks are amazing! Shout out to MJ (he makes the best espresso martini) and Skye two of the best bartenders. Oscar we appreciate you! Thursdays (chill/laid back) and Fridays (live and a DJ) are the best days. Good energy and service all around.

Yelp
This place has so much potential but definitely falls short of other speakeasies we've been to in the DMV area. The drinks are top notch but the vibe is way off - pop music, images of Marilyn Monroe singing on the giant screens, underutilized space, etc. It's very relaxed, I almost felt like I was in the basement of a friend's home. I took off 1 star because of the vibe and another star since there isn't any food not even lite bites/snacks.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to check out this new neighborhood bar, but were a bit disappointed by how gimmicky the whole set-up was. Their website didn't capture a classy speakeasy, and it seems like they are struggling with their theme. While the service was 10/10, the drinks we ordered were highly disappointing. We got the Trail to Bliss (rum, grapefruit, cherry cordial) and the Pass the Buck (whiskey and honey). Both were overly sweetened and tasted more like syrup. I know they are in their soft opening phase, so I think there may be a few things they still need to work through with the drinks. Also the prices for the cocktails were really high considering how poorly they were made. I probably won't be going back, but wish them the best of luck.

Yelp
I came here after dinner and I did not like this bar at all. We wanted to try a cocktail bar and when I asked for a drink they could not make it. It was explained to me that they hatch everything prior to opening and can not make drinks if they are not on the menu. I have never heard of such a thing and was very surprised. The place was nice and the music was also good. I do not recommend this bar nor would I return. I am not sure if this is how bars are in Washington D.C. but I am not their intended audience.

Yelp
This place has great vibes. The lighting and music choices make it a great place to grab a drink. I would recommend it as a nightcap following dinner.

Yelp
They are exceptionally biased towards black people in there establishment. I dont recommend nor feel comfortable coming back to this space. They literally tried to make a black couple leave after only being within their reservation for an hour. There was a very large party who had been seated for longer than 2 hours, paid their bill, was giving more time to sit down but black people were given an hour or 2 before they were kicked out. This space is known as a "speakeasy" its not even on the same level. Its more like a bar turned club. As a dc resident, im not surprised just very displeased. Whoever the "manager" is of this business is very unprofessional. The way he talked to 2 women vs a man is honestly disheartening. It says alot about the culture and ethic of this establishment. I dont need anyone to reach out or give any contact information.

Yelp
The best place! The cocktails were so good and the service was amazing, that place has a special style which you can feel from the moment you get out of the elevator, the dj's are the best and they will make you have an amazing night, I strongly recommend it.

Yelp
Speakeasy's tends to not have velvet ropes and bouncers outside. Did not even make it to the actual bar because of rude staff and miserable vibe that is the opposite of speakeasy/cocktail/chill. Settle on your identity and then maybe it will be better.

Yelp
Brian the dj saved the night. The drinks were pretty good.it was a pretty good crowd. Thanks Brian

Yelp
I went on a weekday. There were 5 people in total. Two couples and me. No one to mingle with lol. I would have liked to see more business people coming to get a drink after work. If this place was near more hotels you might could get that piece of clientele. Hopefully they connect with the hotel staff. I understand everyone can be invited... I mean they have to keep the doors open. DC just doesn't feel like that place where they are ready for 100% exclusive events. I like the concept, of course it's not a real speakeasy or there wouldn't be any advertisement. Very nice vibe. I hope it last long. One small tip. The bathroom needs a coat rack and a place to hold up a purse. I had to drop both on the floor. The trash bin should be placed closer to the door. It was under the sink. If your opening door with tissue the basket is to far

Yelp
So my gf was browsing on tik tok and some influencer convinced her that this place has the best espresso martini in DC. Bold statement, but what can you expect from these tik tok girlies. As soon as I walk in see all the LEDs all over the walls and the bartendies with bow ties. I already knew I was about to pay like over a hundred dollars for like 4 drinks. The ambiance was very aesthetic and the Govee lights looked dope. We grab our first round of drinks, I got some whiskey thing and my girl got some fruity drink which actually, to my surprise, I really enjoyed stealing sips from. To end the night we saved the hype for last, the espresso martini. Taste wise, holy shit, this drink tasted like one shot of espresso and six shots of pure ethanol. Function wise, I had trouble walking upstairs to catch my dinner Uber. So practically the espresso martini accomplished its task.

Yelp
Happy to see a new cocktail bar in the Navy Yard area, most places nearby are beer forward. I like the vibe inside, dim lights, club type music, however, I was under the impression that STFU was supposed to be a speak easy with more exculsivity but when my friend and I went on a saturday night it was more like a club with a lot of people crowding the bar. It was a challenge to find a seat but eventually managed to secure one which made the experience more enjoyable. Word to the wise, after a certain time in the night, they remove the menus (which have all the specialty cocktails) making it difficult to know what to order or what alcohol they actually carry. I ordered a "light beer" and they said all they had was one type of beer and oh by the way, it is not cold. I was surprised but I'm a pretty flexible personal so I just asked for a cup of ice on the side. I don't think that this bar anticipated the crowd for a Saturday and seemed like the "exclusivity" part that makes a speak easy a speak easy was overlooked which could have contributed to the problem All and all, I know this bar is pretty new to the area and working out the kinks, I love the bar, the drinks were tasty (if you go early enough) and the DJ was bumpin'. I would definitely give it another go, maybe just not a weekend night.

Yelp
This new bar/speakeasy in Navy Yard is perfect for a fun date night or night out with friends. My friend and I went to get drinks and we sat at the bar. We were served by MJ, who was so kind and took such great care of us. I would highly recommend coming here.

Nicki B.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by to try it out. The atmosphere is dark with multi-colored lights that swirl around the space. I liked the chairs at the bar and the background music. Their cocktail menus looks good with many selections. Our bartender made fantastic cocktails for us using nice garnishes that complete the drink. He couldn't make a full cocktail of the one I originally wanted because he was short on an ingredient but made it using what he had just so we could try it! Nice touch for sure. We had a friendly conversation with our bartender whose name I didn't get but will next time and Oscar who is the manager. Welcome to the Navy Yard and we will be back!
